He's a golden boy and a charmer. A Senate staffer with political ambitions...and a secret history of sharing Diana Cooper with his twin brother Ian.
Now Ian and Diana are getting married, while Brendan climbs the ladder.
It doesn't matter how hollow he feels. Or that he fills the emptiness with late nights at work. Or that women pass through his bed, yet he's lonely as hell.
What matters is that everyone loves Brendan...
Except for one person.
Sonia Jacobson, Diana's college roommate, treats Brendan like he's gum stuck to the bottom of her shoe. She calls him "the devil incarnate," turns prickly as a porcupine when he's around, and reacts with disgust to his entire existence.
So why can't Brendan stop thinking about her?
After the tension explodes one night, Sonia makes him a surprising offer.
She’ll do anything he wants – his deepest, most hidden fantasies.
Miranda Silver writes sexy novels with a twist. She's happy to be putting her English degree to use, along with her love of drama, secrets, steam, and words. Miranda lives on the West Coast with her family, where she spends time outdoors whenever possible.
‘The Man of the Hour’ is one of my favorite tropes, a short-term, enemies with benefits type situation. Brendan used to be in a sort of sporadic threesome with his childhood friend/neighbor and his twin brother who was in love with the friend/neighbor. In that relationship between the neighbor and his brother continuing on, he met Sonia through the neighbor/friend being roommates with her. While Brendan and Sonia were instantly at odds with each other there was an undeniable attraction and chemistry between them. Sonia saw underneath Brendan’s facade, and Brendan was pretty much fascinated by Sonia not liking him instantly. This story takes place years after they met, when they are living in the same city and circumstances sort of force them to actually interact with one another after many years of avoidance.
Brendan and Sonia were absolute perfection together. The way they balanced each other out and really built up the other person into being themselves and knowing that it was enough to just be them. Sigh. Both Brendan and Sonia put on a front for the world, mainly to protect themselves. Brendan wants to be everything for everyone, but he loses himself in that. Sonia is protecting herself because of past let downs and pain she’s experienced.
These two just connect, reluctantly, and really are vulnerable with one another. There’s this line in ‘The Man of the Hour’ where Sonia says something along the lines of “it’s just a feeling I have,” in reference to why Brendan is the one she offers this fwb dynamic to and why she trusts him with her body, and it’s just a great summary for their entire story. Sonia has a feeling about Brendan, she lets her guard down in ways and it slowly turns into much more for her. Brendan has a feeling about Sonia, and when she offers him a taste he dives in head first even if he’s not sure.
I don’t know. This book really just hit well for me. It’s very steamy and the friends with benefits, your wish is my command type dynamic is really a focus, but it blends so well with these two characters relationship with one another. Feeling safe enough to be vulnerable with someone else in that setting can be very freeing.
Recommend to those who enjoy a spicy read that has some emotional growth and characters who just feel made for one another without it feeling forced.
Here's what worked for me: I liked both the main characters; Brendan and Sonia were individually sympathetic. I buy that Sonia, who values honesty and openness, is initially weary of Brendan (who is very smooth and very good at obfuscating; a classic DC political type) to the point of antagonism. Brendan has always been seen as "the good twin" and that's carried over into his career and friendships, and he just wants to let go. That's why Sonia's offer of a no-strings relationship where he can do "anything" with her couldn't come at a better time. He's also just emotionally and sexually obsessed with Sonia from the start, which I did appreciate.
The conflict that I personally found compelling was the devolution of the Ian/Diana/Brendan threesome, especially since Ian and Diana are engaged and get married by the end of this book. Brendan is increasingly disillusioned about their relationship while still having major hang-ups about his twin brother who he wishes was more present in his life even as he freaks out multiple times and asks Sonia if she imagines that he's Ian during sex (lol).
And the interesting thing is, Brendan doesn't start off in this low place; in The Boys Next Door, he's very much the puppet-master who arranges this threesome in order to get Ian and Diana together (it's questionable but it works). But as time goes on, Ian and Diana continue to have threesomes with Brendan while Brendan is more and more disquieted about being the third person in their relationship, and it seems like Ian and Diana have no idea. And it's a pattern; Diana and Ian (especially Diana) have no qualms about inviting other people who are close to them to join in during sex. It's all consensual; no one is forcing anyone and Brendan still chose to share Diana with Ian, but neither Ian nor Diana seem to consider the emotional repercussions of this, long-term. And ultimately, I don't think this was resolved; sure, Brendan gets with Sonia but one epilogue scene where both couples are happy together wasn't enough in terms of closure.
The sex:
The sex was a little all over the place. While the individual sex scenes were uniformly hot (there's some very DC role-play, there's CNC, there's an emotional pegging scene) with solid dirty talk, it felt like they weren't really building towards something greater as a whole as I'd expect in an erotic romance like this.
The initial premise is that Brendan can do whatever he likes with Sonia; that's how Sonia sets up their short-term sexual relationship. And for a minute, it feels like this is Brendan's way of taking back control during a period where he feels he has little control externally. That's what informs the first sex scene after they come to an agreement about their "relationship" (with an interesting side of Brendan's self-loathing manifesting, like when he tells Sonia to tell him that he's The Worst during sex).
But the sex quickly becomes more emotionally ambiguous as Brendon is less inclined to control each encounter and is really using Sonia for comfort and emotional support, all while Sonia refuses to develop feelings due to her own relationship hang-ups. Basically, the sex no longer feels like the escape like it was set up to be, or I guess, it turned into something that's not an escape too soon after the initial bargain was struck.
Also, for a man hellbent upon not ruining his political prospects who refuses to sext initially, Brendan's convictions really go down the drain by the end which I thought was hilarious.
Overall:
I'd recommend this book for anyone looking for Brendan's closure after the two prior Next Door books. Miranda Silver knows how to write a hot sex scene (she drew me in initially with Priceless) and while the emotional payoff was there in this book, I think there could have been a little more when it came to the threesome that dominated Brendan's life for five years.
Thank you to Miranda Silver's team for the ARC in exchange for my review.
I felt this book diminished Ian and Diana to using Brendon as a prop. Like Diana and Ian didn’t have deep feelings of love for Brendon. And I felt Sonia’s reaction was to predictable to allow for a break up. Considering Sonia’s sexual history you’d think that would not have upset her since it happened before Sonia and Brendon got together. But like so many romance novels there needs to be a crisis to overcome. I just loved the first two books and the close characters worked well. This one was a slight let down.
If your already a fan or Miranda Silvers work you won’t be disappointed by her latest and final instalment in the Twins/Diana story.
However, this story is not about the twins but Brendan and his life away from Ian and Diana.
If you want the full picture I would recommend reading the other two books. That being said you could read this as a standalone if your happy to be missing a few details. They are so good however that I wouldn’t recommend missing out on them.
Brendan may be older but he is still the golden boy. Working in politics now he just takes another form as the man who can help fix everyone’s problems. Although by his nature Brendan craves this kind of control and subsequently the gratification that comes with it. He is struggling the way most of us do with burnout from long working weeks, reduced self care and the struggle of realising that his brother whom he has been his so called ‘partner in crime’ is now fully capable of functioning without him. By all accounts it’s a bit like the grass is greener on the other side. A side that Brendan has never wanted to visit before. Ian has a job he enjoys, the women he loves and a future to look forward to. While Brendan has a lipstick tube, a carefree roommate and a job working from dusk till dawn.
Without spoiling to much of the story, Brendan has been secretly visiting the dance show of Diana’s best friend and old room mate Sonia. Something about her calls to him. Maybe the fact she has hated his guts since the moment he turned on his charming smile in her direction. Or maybe it’s the allure of wanting what he can’t have. But Sonia’s life is just as complicated with everything she has worked for about to collapse. When Diana asks Brendan to go to what is the final show of the season, as a show of support for her friend, Brendan gets a little more then he bargained for and the whole story becomes a wonderful spicy turn of events from there.
I love the way the reader gets to feel the anguish and stress that both Brendan and Sonia experience, the everyday stresses that come from high powered and creative work are often ignored in romance book settings. The way they fight coming together and how they figure out what they really want. In the end it’s a great all rounder, spicy, emotional but easy to read and a great end to an amazingly spicy series.
I was lucky enough to read this as and ARC but all opinions are my own.

Brendan O'Brian found his kinkiest heart's desire in Sonia, and we get a front row seat to all the action. 🥵
But I feel like it glossed over key conflicts that never got satisfactorily resolved on page. And it just sorta wrapped up with loose ends imo. I can't decide if this is an HFN or HEA for me.
I know that a pivotal piece to Brendan's storyline revolved around Diana and Ian's wedding, so they had to come into play, but I really didn't like either one of them in this book. They were pretty self-centered and just ruined the vibe for me. This is told in the third person pov. Not my favorite but it didn't bother me in this narrative.
But I didn't really, lol. It was pretty random how they just fell to having sex together. Not that the original two books had much storyline vs sex, but this one was kinda forced. With how much she hated him it was unlikely that they'd just fall into sleeping with each other so quickly (although it has been years)
I also did not like the pegging. I didn't expect that for Brendan and I wasn't a fan. Liked the first two books but not this one.
THE MAN OF THE HOUR by Miranda Silver takes readers on a journey, reuniting them with the golden boy, Brendan O’Brian, as his new arrangement with Di’s college roommate takes center stage in this follow up.
If you haven't yet read Brendan, Ian and Diana's story, that is okay. Silver does a great job of filling in the past events so that the reader isn’t left in the dark especially about the relationship between Ian, Diana, and Brendan. That being said, I enjoyed the first two books in this series, so I suggest that you do read those for a fuller picture!
Undoubtedly, Brendan and Sonia display a unique chemistry, and reading their relationship develop throughout the pages is undoubtedly a fun (and spicy) ride. However, for me, there may be a noticeable shift in Brendan's character that leaves him feeling somewhat less charming than in the first book in the series. The lack of connection to the characters, particularly the Brendan from the previous books, could leave readers yearning for the spark they once experienced. He’s still Brendan but for me it wasn’t totally the same. Despite these reservations, THE MAN OF THE HOUR does not disappoint. The novel ties up loose ends, granting Brendan the happy ending he deserves.
Overall, THE MAN OF THE HOUR delivers an enjoyable read, especially for those invested in Brendan getting his own happily ever after. While some may miss the allure of the previous book's characters, the novel still manages to offer an entertaining experience.
I had high hopes for the third book in the Next Door series since I loved the first two books. However, there was something off about this. I didn't feel there was resolution between Ian, Diana, and Brendan. The third act (or rather 90%) "breakup" felt forced and the "reunion" was shockingly quick. Sonia's reaction was confusing. She felt uncomfortable with Diana sleeping with Brendan but that wasn't really resolved. Her reaction was tacked as her fear of relationships; but that was only one aspect of her objection, albeit the biggest.
It was so nice to get his story as the mmc and not just an adjacent to Ian and Diana. I felt so bad for him though through so much of this book. He was under so much pressure and just wanted to be appreciated for who he was!
His relationship with Sonia was so good. They were both so guarded and I loved her realising that her impression of Brendan was totally wrong. That he was using charm the same way she used animosity, to keep people at a distance. I also really enjoyed how the power dynamics and switching of control played into their interactions both in and out of the bedroom.
I do have to say though, Di did not come off well in this book - I wanted to shake her at several points and tell her to leave poor Brendan alone! I would have liked to have delved into the Ian-Diana-Brendon situation a bit more; given how disillusioned and seemingly used Brendon felt, and how possessive of him Diana seemed to be (even sabotaging his burgeoning relationship with Sonia?), I feel like we could have had more of a conflict resolution here. I would have loved to see Brendon stand up for himself in this dynamic and repair his relationship with his twin.
But this was generally a fun and spicy read. A bit of angst but generally low-drama. I really enjoyed it.
2 stars If their both "switches" then there should've been an equal amount of Brendan being "bottom" instead of at just the end with pegging situation. Also Diana and Ian being in everyone's business drove me crazy. Trigger Warnings: toxic parents and mention of alcoholism
I thought the steamy scenes were really hot, but the fact that Brendan was a politician in Washington was a huge turn off. I had to set this book aside a few times and come back to it months later because of that fact.
While I liked Ian and Di in the original duology, they came off as very self absorbed and shallow in this book. Late in the book, when Di just HAD to reveal her past about her threesomes with Ian and Brendan, it was done in such a self-absorbed way (she blurts it out like they were doing something wrong and she does so without even talking to Brendan about it beforehand) that it made me question her motives. Di said she just couldn’t keep it a secret anymore, but it was done in such a way that it seems like it was done more out of possessiveness and/or jealousy. I say that because the only possible outcome of the “reveal” that she engineered, was for Sonia to be hurt and Brendan to look like he was just using everyone. It was just a really bad look any way you look at it.

The Man of The Hour by Miranda Silver is the long a waited third book in the Next Door series. The Man of the Hour is set five years after the last book and follows Ian's twin, Brandon O'Brien, and Diana's college roommate and best friend Sonia Jacobson.
Although the first two books in this series weren't my favorite books by Miranda Silvers, I was still extremely excited when I heard that she was writing a story following Brandon and I was even more excited when I found out that his love interest would be no other than Sonia.
I won't say I was disappointed in this book because I liked it just as much as I liked the other books in the Next Door series but I definitely wouldn't say this book is one of my favorites by Miranda Silver. I do think this was a nice addition to the series because I always felt that there was more story to be told about Brandon and I liked getting to see his love story with Sonia. I enjoyed getting to see Diana and Ian again and I loved getting to see their wedding.
I do have a few things that I dislike about this book, mainly the writing especially in the sex scenes. There's no argument that this book has some very sexy and kinky scenes but some of the words Miranda Silvers used in these scenes really give me the ick. For example, the use of cream, petals, ripe balls, and pucker, and I absolutely hate it when authors use the word roar in contemporary novels (I feel like that word should be saved specifically for fantasy). There were also quite a few times where the dirty talk just came off very cheesy. Another thing I didn't love about this book was the fact that it felt kinda insta-lovey in a way. Sonia went from hating Brandon to mauling him really quick like it was literally in the same scene. This book did feel a little longer than it needed to be especially with the third-act breakup, which felt pointless due to the fact that it was resolved very quickly.
Overall, this book was a nice conclusion to the Next Door series and although it's not my favorite book by Miranda Silvers, I enjoyed getting to read about Brandon and Sonia again and see their love story.

The Man of the Hour is the third book in the Next Door series, but it can definitely be read as a standalone. If you've read the first two books in the series though, then you've already met Brendan O'Brian.
I had already met Brendan, but it's been a long time since those books came out some five years ago. Still, reading this book took me right back. Brendan and Ian are twins and they've shared almost everything throughout their lives, including Ian's fiance, Diana. Actually, it was Brendan who took the initiative years ago and brought Ian and Diana together. Now, Brendan is climbing the political ladder while his brother and Diana plan a wedding. Brendan is set to be the best man which is fitting since everyone loves Brendan. Well, except for one person - Diana's college roomie, Sonia. She's never liked him, but after one explosive night, she makes him an offer. For seven days, until the wedding, she’ll do anything he wants, live out his hidden fantasies. It's an offer he can't refuse.
If you haven't yet read Brendan, Ian and Diana's story, I don't think that you'd ever feel like you missed out on anything. The author does a great job of filling in the past events so that you know what's gone on; however, I loved the first two books in this series, so I suggest that you pick them up if you haven't already. Now, I will admit that I was always #TeamIan, but I've also always wondered about Brendan and hoped that he'd find his HEA.
Brendan definitely meets his match with Sonia, and I enjoyed watching their story unfold and seeing this side of Brendan. There is some definite steam between these two, and although I've read so many romances, I do believe that there is at least one toy scene in this book that I have never come across in a M/F romance. *Blushing*
This isn't an overly angsty or emotional read although I did feel bad for Brendan at times, got frustrated with Sonia once or twice, and I'm still a little mad at Diana. I would have liked to have seen more of Brendan and Ian together, because I really do enjoy their twin-ship, but at the same time, I appreciate that we get to see these brothers making lives for themselves outside of that relationship.
If you're looking for a steamy romance that will keep you turning the pages, then I'd definitely recommend this one.
I feel like I need to bleach my eyes. This book was icky 🤮 I originally read Priceless and was a HUGE fan so I thought I would like Miranda Silver’s next M/F book. Boy was I wrong. I had no idea how triggering MMF was to me until I read this book. Long story short throughout this entire book, you are continually bashed over the head on how Brendan used to share Diana with Brendan and you are given continuous glances into their history in case you haven’t read the previous books. It was kind of gross how Diana pretty much was matchmaking Sonia and Brendan together all the while she was actively fucking both twins. I’m going to repeat that: SHE WAS FUCKING BRENDAN while trying to set Sonia up. She keeps this secret (and the twins keep this secret) even while Sonia/Brendan get together. Ian came off as stupid, Diana was petty, mean and really disgusting for telling Sonia about the threesomes with ZERO remorse. You get a lot of BS about how lonely Brendan is and how “attracted” he is to Sonia yet he called fucking Diana with Ian some of the best/happiest times of his life!!!! 🤢 he’s portrayed as this DC go-getter when in reality he’s an immature guy living in the shadow of his brother who didn’t have the courtesy aka the balls to tell the girl he was with that he was fucking his sister-in-law with his brother. Sonia deserves better. She deserves a man who loves her only. Miranda Silver has a history of resolving conflicts very quickly, so there is very little remorse or groveling on Brendan’s part. Everything is forgiven and she becomes best friends with Diana again and back together with Brendan. Almost little to no character growth. Don’t bother reading this folks, it’ll only make you angry.
As a long-time reader of the Next Door series, The Man of the Hour was a satisfying conclusion to the series. What started out as a smutty little serial turned into a full-on romance series, with a lot more heart and humor than you’d expect. What started as an illicit threesome between a girl and her older twin neighbors (The Boys Next Door) turns into a love story between that girl and a brother, once they finally have the bravery to admit what they really want beyond their initial physical relationship (The Girl In-Between) and what happens to the other brother once he’s forced to acknowledge who he really is once he is on the outside (The Man of the Hour). TMotH was more mature than the two previous books, both because Brendan has gotten older and more mature but also because both Brendan and Sonia have heavier issues to bear. Brendan is still coming to terms with Ian and Diana’s impending marriage - what that means for him as a twin and not being the most important person in Ian’s life, as well as not being part of Ian’s and Di’s relationship anymore… he’s on the outside looking back in, while balancing his needs with his public squeaky clean political image. Sonia, Di’s college roommate (from The Girl In-Between) is meanwhile struggling with the abandonment issues from her parents and keeping her dance company in operations. When the pair first met, it was dislike at first sight, but now that the pair are being forced together for the upcoming wedding, they come to an agreement - for one week they’ll put aside their feelings for one another and get all that sexual tension and personal stress out of their system… with surprising results. While there are still a lot of hot, steamy moments throughout the book, do not expect The Boys Next Door, or even The Girl In-Between- this is heavier in content and that much for satisfying all the more for it.
Many thanks to Miranda Silver and her team for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!
Sonia and Brendan: chefs kiss, perfection 🤌🏼💋💕 The spice: chefs kiss, perfection 🤌🏼💋💕
I am absolutely obsessed with Brendan and Sonia and all of the “I hate you, but I secretly want you” we got from this story 🫠
The spice was amazing, man Miranda Silver can write a good scene 🥵 and there wasn’t a lack of scenes either 🫠🙈
I loved seeing the vulnerable parts of Sonia and Brendan during their “games”. And the way they slowly started to show every part of themselves to each other and trust each other more, especially with their deepest fantasies.
Brendan comes off as “the man of the hour”, the one that you can count on to take care of everything, the one that can charm the pants off of anyone, but with Sonia…. 🫠 man I loved seeing that other side of him. He’s not as good as you’d think 🥵
Sonia was everything I loved in an FMC. Hard exterior but a total softie for those she truly cares about. I loved how dedicated she was to her dance company and her relationship with her grandma.
The only thing I did not care for in this story was the way the conflict felt wrapped up too quickly, and Diana and Ian. You’re telling me Diana and Ian(his twin) care so much about Brendan but didn’t have it in them to consider the way their ✨activities✨ would affect him in the long run? Like he’d wanna be doing that forever 💀 please. And the way Diana just dropped that info on Sonia like that, when she had YEARS before where she could’ve told her… 🙃🙃
I think the reason Sonia and Brendan get into a sexual arrangement is quite lazy from a plot perspective. I find it hard to believe she can overlook Brendan's charisma and golden boy persona at the beginning simply because she's attracted to him, given her issues with this type of behaviour in her past.
I also thought there would be more of an evolution to their encounters; both Sonia and Brendan peeling away their layers slowly to let the other in, yet the author prefers to cast character development aside in favour of exploring the sexual shenanigans they get involved in. The author definitely knows how to balance these two things, as shown in Priceless, which managed to perfectly merge character and smut, so it's particularly annoying to find that lacking here, given her success in her previous stories.
However, I have no complaint whatsoever in regards to the sexual scenes in themselves. I think this is the spiciest book she has written yet, if only for the fact that it explores so many different kinks and sexual aspects so well.
I will say, the book gets better as it progresses. The beginning is a bit boring, mainly because of the lack of character development that I mentioned earlier driving the plot forward, but halfway through the book, the plot picks up and the reading is much more enjoyable.
The previous two books in this series are considerably better, but overall, The Man of the Hour is a satisfying conclusion to Brendan's story if you manage to overlook certain weaker aspects of the book.
3.5 stars - I have some… thoughts. the first thing i want (need) to say, is it was absolutely not Diana’s place to really tell Sonia abt the whole threesome thing. It maybe would’ve been better if Diana didn’t know Sonia and Brendan were together but this women fully knew abt their relationship and proceeded to tell Sonia because she “couldn’t keep it in any longer”?!?! like girl be so real.
Diana and Ian kind of just annoyed me the whole book for some reason? I understand relationships that are more… open? in a way but they lowkey just seemed so into ppl’s space and it was kind of weird if imma be honest.
Otherwise i loved Sonia and Brendan which is what we’re here for! Brendan really is just my fav of the twins, i liked his storyline and his struggles we really got to understand and how Sonia really helped him and him for her too.
Something that I felt needed to be more focused on though, was definitely Brendan wanting to not always rely on Ian. Their twin connection ngl always makes me feel… a little weird and you can kind of tell Brendan had this weird thing with Ian where he felt like he was nothing without him. And maybe he wanted to kind of have a separation from him in some way? Even in the beginning of the book he made it obvious he didn’t wanna share Sonia with Ian. and i think we could’ve focused on this more cause it wasn’t really resolved in the book.
I think some parts were rushed and a could’ve taken some more time but overall a pretty good read.

...Especially since I was content enough where the story ended in the previous book. Usually stories tend to fall short of the mark when they decide to add an addition to the story- but this one did a good job of actually expanding on familiar characters. When I stumbled across this- I was surprised because I didn't know that this book was even in the works. So I re-read the other 2 first, and came away with a completely different takeaway. Like... Diana was actually pretty selfish and only was concerned with what she wanted. Brendan is a pathological people pleaser, so I don't think she ever considered what continuing to hook up with both twins, was actually DOING to him. Using him just often enough to keep others at arms length, nearly damaged his ability to let anyone else get close to him. I appreciated the themes around trust, because it felt realistic - and the hot ways Brendan and Sonia work through it don't hurt either ;) The culmination of events at the end start with Diana being messy and selfish, and made me dislike her and Ian even more. Like a slow-motion car crash, you could see it coming and when it does, it'll make you want to either roll your eyes or throw something across the room lol Plus, this was written well, and does a great job of sucking you into their story. If you enjoyed the other books, but want something a little more adult and sexy - this is one addition you won't want to pass up.
after more than a year of reading this, i can finally say it's over. what started off as one of my favorite romance novels ever ended rather plainly. * personally, i don't like it when characters are made to be so "human" they turn pathetic. while many may find brendan's arc realistic, i feel that if the decline was so slow the recovery must be that slow too. the whole novel taking place over the course of two weeks was too unbelievable for me, especially when ian and diana got two whole novels dedicated to them (i'm not complaining). my opinion is that if miranda silver so clearly loves complicated, clearly non-monogamous relationships (see serpentine duet) then why not go all the way? brendan and sonia felt too disconnected from the rest of the book, almost like they were not what i cared about even in their own novel. matters were not discussed properly and given due credit, sonia was rather unlikeable for the most part and i WISH, oh god i wish, we got a proper ian-brendan conversation. also, diana turned into somebody wholly different (again, not implausible, but definitely whiplash-inducing). for the book that wraps up the fates of some of our most loved characters, it felt way too rushed and incomplete. * 3/5 because i do love ian. and respect brendan. begrudgingly.
I will never say no to a reverse grumpy x sunshine! I was beyond excited and constantly checking for every update on this book when the author had announced it was in the works. I knew the FMC was Sonia right off the bat. I really liked getting to know Brendan underneath the charming facade and who he is independent of his twin. Brendan battles with his identity and the reputation that most people have known him as since he was a teen. I wish we got to know more Sonia's backstory—I don't think it was as in-depth as it could have been. However, her grandma was a hoot!
Actually a missed opportunity that there wasn't a huge "sleepover" between Diana, Ian, Brendan, and Sonia 🤧...Although...the way Brendan wanted be a good boy 🥺 for Sonia...
Lastly, very funny and probably pure coincidence that another romance book has a character named Sonia whose endearment is also "sunshine."
I hope this isn't the last time we see these characters but I can't imagine another couple in this world that I am interested in...That guy at the wedding was annoying so I don't really care for him...but maybe a novella of the foursome in the future?
I absolutely loved this as the conclusion of the series. This series really ran the spectrum, with the first novel a masterpiece of “boys next door” fantasy with light feels to this which perfectly tied all loose ends and did perfect justice to Brendan’s character. Brendan really didn’t have much of a personality in the first two books, we really didn’t understand much of his motivations or who he was other than a problem solving, people pleasing good guy. Throughout the series I constantly wondered what he was really thinking and feeling. Finally here we get his POV. Some readers who hold Ian and Di beloved may hate the way they come off as selfish here, maybe Di does mostly does, but that’s actually pretty true to how she was acting in The Girl In Between. I loved hearing about how Brendan started to feel about their threesomes down the line and really missed having his other half with him. The author did a masterful job suiting Sonia and Brendan together and exploring all of their depths and desires. This world was very satisfyingly tied up and I’m just so happy the author gave us this beautiful conclusion.
I have been highly anticipating this book after falling in love with Brendan in the Next Door series! I am so happy he got his own HEA! This is book 3 in the series but can definitely be read as a standalone. I do highly recommend the first 2 books, as not only are they so enjoyable but also help to see more of the dynamic between Brendan, his twin brother and his brother’s fiancé Diana. Think group activities! Overall, The Man Of The Hour delivered on a storyline for Brendan that combined fantastic character growth with all the spicy moments that brought the heat!! Check those lists of kinks and triggers as it is scorching HOT!
💜Reverse Grumpy/Sunshine 💜S3x Pact 💜Enemies with benefits 💜Lots of Kinks 💜Super Spicy
Overview: Brendan & Sonia met years ago as she was the college roommate of his brother’s fiancé, Diana. From the first time they met in college, Brendan has always tried to be nice to Sonia but she was a grump from the start which created their enemies vibe. Now 5 years later, both work in DC but haven’t crossed paths except for one moment. One day, Brendan’s soon to be sister in law, Diana calls him and asks if he can go to one of Sonia’s dance shows in her place as it’s her best friend. Brendan goes to the show and then finds Sonia backstage. Truths are revealed and banter ensues which causes things to quickly heat up for these two! Even though they still have tension between them, the chemistry is blazing hot so they decide to form a sex pact but only until Diana and Ian’s wedding that is very soon.
The storyline that continues is hot and extremely spicy!!! Their journey and growth involves a lot of heat but Miranda knows how to deliver a book that combines smut and plot so well! It is full of spice in unique ways with all the kinks but Brendan and Sonia still go through so much development both individually and together keeping the story intriguing and interesting!! I loved getting to see Brendan’s character grow into himself while finding the love that he deserves! I am so happy that Miranda took the time to give us this final story for Brendan that is truly a fantastic wrap up and conclusion to this whole series!!
Spice: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Fluff: 🦋🦋🦋 Pacing: Mixed Interesting Plot: Fun
This one’s a little difficult to rate for me. I have to give it a 4.5 overall, and a lot of that is because it checks a lot of personal boxes! I think the book started out really strong!! and again, I absolutely *devoured* a lot of aspects of the relationship, but I also think the pacing started to become slower and the plot started to become formulaic towards the end. It could be a mood thing, but I wasn’t as obsessed by the end of the book. I still absolutely *love* these charas and would recommend this read!
I think what is holding back that full 5 stars for me is: - the petering out towards the end - there was a 90% conflict orchestrated - personally, I was hoping for more Switch dynamics, one of the opening perceptions from the fmc gave me the impression that she had some strong Dom tendencies, but I only got a soft dom for maybe two scenes- not really a bad thing as it’s not marketed for that I don’t think, but I had a personal expectation and it’s hard to stay obsessed when it wasn’t met. 🥺
Diana was such a bitch. It was so inappropriate of her to tell their secret to Sonia without and discussing or warning with Brenden. She seemed manipulative and jealous like she wanted to spoil B’s relationship. She could have very easily talked to B and asked him if he’d shared the secret and, if not, encouraged him to do so if she felt it bedded to be shared. But it wasn’t her place to just arbitrarily decide completely on her own to tell without knowing what impact her scrims would have for the other person. It made me really strongly dislike her.
Sonia was also an annoying character in the beginning and her inability to get lost her baggage about her parents for most of the book was frustrating. But I hated Diana more. Felt bad for B. And wondered what the supposed significance of the phone ringing during the rehearsal dinner was all about. Thought there would be some work related problem, given the bread crumbs, but it ended up being a complete dead end. Felt a little odd.
Truth be told, I’m not particularly keen on the third person POV. But, Ms, Silver is one of those only authors whose I don’t really happen to mind as I barely seem to even notice it, especially here, as the writing just pulled me in and had me hooked since the very beginning. This books was high on serving the unconventional deviously intense dislike to love. And, after all the pining and patience, it has had been so worth the ride. Sonia was such a feisty heroine, and I loved how initially she couldn't give a damn about hero, and on the other hand, he had been obsessed. It was so funny to me. It had lots of twists and turns, which had me sat on the edge of my seat. The chemistry between the MCs (Brendan and Sonia) was off the charts hot, and I loved every damn minute of it, Brendan and Sonia really are made for each other!
Overall, I had so much fun reading it and i undoubtedly enjoyed it.
