“Nobody tells you how one moment, one decision, can change the course of your entire life.”

Kit Briar is starting over. At thirty-three, he thought he had his life planned out, but a devastating revelation sends him back to his hometown, desperate to make a life for himself and his son.

“Sometimes, a single kiss can lead a person down a road they never expected.”

Lawson Craig never meant to fall in love with his hot new neighbor, his life's complicated enough. Except Kit and his young son fulfill a void he did know he had. The more he tries to fight against the mutual attraction, the harder it is to stay away.

“If it came down to it, I’d let him go. I’d let him go because he deserves someone so much better than me.”

Lawson and Kit find themselves in a whirlwind romance. They fall hard and fast, but every choice comes with consequences and neither of them are prepared for what happens when their blissful bubble pops. They’ll have to learn to trust in each other and what they’re trying to build in order to get the happy ending they’ve both always wanted. When every road seems to lead to heartbreak, how will they ever find forever?

DNF at 63% ..I can’t stand this anymore. I think Lawson is one of the worst characters I’ve ever encountered and Kit is the most idiotic one. Let me make it a bit clear .. So Lawson is married but he kisses Kit the first time he meets him without reason or thought. Then Kit finds out he’s married and they stop kissing and sort of become friends.. who later kiss again. Lawson doesn’t want to give up his wife- he keeps saying he loves her but he keeps having an affair with Kit. He doesn’t get along with his wife but he won’t leave her. Then he says that he loves Kit a lot and that he wants to have both his wife and Kit. And Kit understands him cuz he’s such a nice guy (oh, and Kit divorced his wife because she cheated on him.. the bitch!!!! ) . Then Lawson’s wife wants to leave him, they don’t get along, they want different things so it would be logical no? And you think , well ok, he loves Kit anyway. But noooo, Lawson DOESN’T want to lose her , he keeps fighting for his marriage when the previous night he told Kit he loves him and he can’t lose him. So the man wants his cake and eat it too. Then he goes to Kit and says that he broke up with her because he’s the one he wants. WTF?? Ohh and then he has an internal monologue where he whines that his wife doesn’t love him as much as he loves her (this is right after he fucks Kit and telling him he loved him.)What’s hysterical is that the wife wants to set him free and he refuses. I was like.. what?? And that’s where I threw the towel. The writing is ok ..ish but everything else is a madhouse…

This was quite a different story than I expected. It has no average content. I’m not opposed to reading about it, but for many, it’s just not their cup of tea. I don’t wanna spoil, a story like this needs a chance, certainly because of the way the author pictured it.
If you must know the content on forehand what I’m talking about, read reviews from others.

Kit, and his almost four-year-old son Linden, are back in Kit’s hometown. After he separated from the mother of his son, who cheated on him, he turned back to the family he needs and who loves him, unconditionally. Besides the cheating, she’s not the best mother.

On the day he moved and all the helpers are gone there was a knock on his door, it was his neighbor who brings over cookies as a welcome. Kit invites Lawson inside and something almost inevitable happens.
Let’s just keep it at that.
You could think it’s sweet and nice, they like each other, they build a life together and blah blah blah, but oh no, it’s not that simple. It’s hugely complicated!!

The story is about choices and consequences, erratic or defensible, it can go every way, it’s what you make of it. On the path of love there’s acceptance, hurt, and resistance, it’s all unavoidable!!

“What we did might be wrong, but we’re human and humans make mistakes.”

The author did a good job, creating a sensitive complicated narrative, and approaching it with all care.
Without being the main Kit’s dad William was a steady rock of strength, I loved him.
Kit and Lawson were mature and kind. Lawson was awesome with Linden. They deserved their happiness, it wasn’t easy, it’s a road full of cobblestones.
I know a lot of readers love to read about families with kids, to a certain point me too, but it was a bit too much for me, even though I know it’s important for the whole picture, I get that.

While I liked the story and its sincerity, I couldn’t wholeheartedly connect with the main characters, maybe because of the awkwardness of the situation? I’m really not sure why yet.
The author has a captivating way of writing, the story is widely written.
I admire, even though with all the family fuss, there’s still order and it’s clear. There are a lot of family members we get to know, and there are certainly a few you want to know more about. I’m so curious about Weston and Landry their story.
I wish everyone was as mature and mild in real life as the characters in this story.

I loved it in spite of the subject matter.

There is no explicit trigger warning in the blurb so I’m going to start out by saying that this book will not be for everyone as there is cheating involved. In the context of the story, it was understandable to me but not everyone will agree. Things that might bother me in real life often do not bother me at all in fiction.

One of my all-time favorite movies is Same Time Next Year starring Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn (1978). When it was released and available to rent on cable, I must have watched that movie at least 10 times (yes, I’m that old – look up the movie if you don’t know it). The story revolves around a couple, married to other people, who meet once a year for a weekend together. OK enough about that, on to my review of this book.

While The Last Beginning deals with subject matter that some will find objectionable, I think the author dealt with it with sensitivity and compassion. At no time did the characters indicate that what they were doing was justified. In fact, they tried to deny their feelings for way longer than I might have expected and the guilt that they felt was strongly voiced in the book.

Also, the subject matter of cheating is examined pretty thoroughly as one of the MCs is a psychology professor. He designed a lesson plan for the class after he was cheated on by his wife, never imagining that he would end up being “the other man” in a relationship.

The author’s note at the end of the story might have been better placed at the beginning, even though some might say it contains spoilers. Since this is a romance story it should be a forgone conclusion that Kit and Lawson will end up together. The story is about their journey to getting there.

The Last Beginning is also a great story about family and friendships. Kit has a large and very supportive family while Lawson only has his brother because their parents are homophobic and threw them out. I really enjoyed all of the interactions between the siblings and their children. Kit’s son Linden is absolutely precious and I love how quickly he and Lawson bonded together.

I was so happy to learn that there will be more visits with Kit and Lawson when Kit’s brothers, Weston and Calvin, get stories of their own. I can’t wait to read them.

A copy of this book was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

The Last Beginning by Abrianna Denae is a very frank and realistic portrayal of the unpalatable difficulties people face within relationships. Kit Briar is starting over. At thirty-three, he thought he had his life planned out, but a devastating revelation sends him back to his hometown. Whilst trying to build a new life for him and his son. He meets his charming neighbor Lawson, sparks instantly fly between Kit and Lawson. Whilst their undeniable attraction to eachother leads them on a path neither expected to find themselves on. The Last Beginning raises questions about the morally grey areas of love.

There was a complex cast of side characters and a real emphasis on family dynamics. I really loved Kit and his son's relationship at the centre of this book. I can't wait for Lawson's brothers story and to see his journey. Where we will also see more development of Lawson and Kit's relationship.

This is the first book I have read by this author, so I went into this story completely blind. I'm happy I began The Last Beginning with an unbiased opinion. I appreciate complex stories and thought provoking matters and I feel like the sensitive matters within this book were dealt with exceptionally well and I always praise authors that push the boundaries and think outside the box.

The only reason I finished this is so that I would not feel bad about leaving a bad rating and review.
Listen. I have BEEF with this book. I am pissed about it and I will yell about it.

First of all: cheating. No trigger warnings given either. Fine, ok, maybe the characters get redeemed at one point. Nope, did not happen. excuses upon excuses for these shitty mcs to try and justify their actions.

Secondly, the 3 (4) year old Lindens' vocabulary and way of talking is unrealistic. No child talks like that at any age. The structure and grammar is way off, children who are learning to speak make different mistakes and tend to build their vocabulary differently. This felt like it was written by an adult who has limited experience with children and thought 'oh let's try to make this kid sound cutesywutesy uwu'.

Lastly, the misogyny. Dear god. Make it stop. We get it, all women are cheating (or frigid) bitches and the guys are perfect (even though they are cheating but it's ok for them to cheat)

I could also add that the writing is just really, reaaally bad (and don't even get me started on the limited vocabulary, wonky grammar and abundance of spelling mistakes) but honestly, that's the least of my grievances with this complete and utter piece of shit pile of wordsalad.

There. I said it. I'm not even sorry about it.

This is a suburban dream of neighbours falling in love despite the cost.

Kit and Lawson are so drawn to each other from the very second they meet- problem is Lawson is married and Kit is newly divorced after his wife cheated on him 😮‍💨 phew yeah, it’s a LOT. But, their journey to a hell of a lot more was super sweet.

Kit is also a single dad and Linden is just the sweetest little boy with a fondness for every one and the coolest little attitude towards life. I loved him and he was such an integral part of the two men coming together.

If cheating isn’t your jam - this isn’t your book, but if you’re a little or a lot like me and love it, then get this asap!!

A Joyfully Jay review.

This book tells Kit and Lawson’s story as they meet and fall hard for each other, but there are definitely complications that prevent them from truly being together right away. The vibe was a little off for me from the start as Lawson goes to introduce himself to Kit and bring him cookies. Lawson is all in just from looking at Kit and, just a few minutes after meeting, they are kissing in Kit’s kitchen. We are told how the men are feeling, but I didn’t feel this intense chemistry coming off them as much. Then, what we learn next about Lawson not only sets up the rest of the story, but made me wonder what exactly Lawson is doing from the moment he meets Kit.

The Last Beginning was a very interesting story with subject matter that may not be for everyone. I was not expecting it going in. It does not trigger me but a warning for others may be helpful. However, even despite the subject matter this book was a beautiful love story. The author dealt with the subject matter very delicately and sensitively. I truly adored Kit throughout the entire book and his son was absolutely precious. Lawson did eventually grow on me, it took some time but I ended up loving him in the end. Lawson and Kit were truly meant to be and their journey there was a tough one. They eventually were able to get to their happily ever after but they both fought their way to get there. I really loved this story and I will be looking to read more by this author.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

‘The Last Beginning’ was a tender and emotional story that drew me in and held me captive until the last page.
Despite the subject dealt with in the book, I liked the main characters, Kit and Lawson, who are basically good people who find themselves at a difficult time in their lives and in a situation they didn’t ever expect to be in, because life is not always black and white and no one is perfect.
Kit and Lawson's families added a lot to my enjoyment of the book, especially, little Linden, who was adorable.
Realistic and emotional this story takes us on a difficult journey, but one which the author treats with compassion and from a very human point of view that I applaud because we all find ourselves acting out of character sometimes. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Such an emotional journey between two men finding a chance to love and be loved despite all odds against them. I was drawn to their story from the first chapter and couldn't put it down.

They make mistakes but they face the consequences and support each other through it all.

Kit's kid is the cutest little boy and I loved how much Lawson cared for him.

The book has many great side characters and we get to see a few cameos from a previous series, as weel as we get to see a little of what is coming in the next books of this new series. I really look forward to Weston and Landry's book.

The story ends in a HFN place with no epilogue showing them down the road (which I personally don't mind one bit, but I know some readers do). Though I believe we'll get to see more of them in the next books.

Down one star because I didn't always like Lawson's decisions and his reasoning for acting the way he did. He could be a selfish jerk sometimes.

TW and possible spoiler:
Contains cheating on page.

This was a emotional story where there is a trigger that not everyone will like, but it didn't take away from the story for me.
It is about two men that find love in the most difficult of times, this was a heartfelt story about relationships and family life that sadly happens all to often.
I read this book in one go, routing for this couple to get there hea, there was a lot of obstacles they had to over come to even think about where they was going as Kit has a young son to think about, plus Lawson his neighbour was married.
Love this author's story telling with how she portrayed this, it was hard at times but loved this and how it ended.

I really liked the characters in this book not because they were perfect or even always super likable (ahem…Lawson) but because they *aren’t*— they feel messy and human and relatable on so many interesting levels. In addition to the protagonists, many of the supporting characters are drawn with care and add depth and dimension to the story. There’s plenty of emotion to be found here, and relationships that grow and evolve— not always linearly. It’s easy to be drawn into the narrative, and to invest in Kit and Lawson. If the blurb appeals to you, give it a try— it’s well worth the read.

Real life love

If you are looking for an easy romance, this book probably won't be for you. Now, if you are looking for a real-life, hard fought romance, this is the book for you. These two were made to be together even if the timing was not ideal they are perfect together. The child comes before, even with tensions, the child comes first. What else can you ask for in a loving relationship that is meant to last.
Yes, I cried because yeah, it was hard fought, but wow, was it moving and powerful, something I've come to expect from an Abrianna book. They do not write your cookie cutter romance they write real-life true romance that is meant to last.

This story sucked me into it right from the beginning! Loved Kit and Lawson!! Kit is a single dad, his wife cheated on him, is starting over. Lawson is Kit’s neighbor and has fallen deep for Kit and his young son. I loved the support that Kit had. There is some fantastic secondary characters that we’ve met before. Overall, a great story!! It was really well written, the pacing flowed so good, highly recommend. I’m voluntarily leaving a review from an advanced copy that I received. This was quite an unexpected turn of events!

I loved the chemistry between Kit and Lawson from their very first meet cute, however I expected the plot to be quite easy going and predictable from there on.

However, Lawson holds some secrets of his own and the whirlwind romance isn't as breezy and easy going it seemed on the surface level.

This story was about an emotional journey between two men and the choices they choose to make.

I loved how the author made this as realistic a romance as possible.

This was an interesting read. This book is about Kit and Lawson as they go through their journey to their happily ever after. They met as Kit just moved next door to Lawson, who came over with cookies to welcome him to the neighborhood. There was chemistry between them from the very beginning but there were other issues that they needed to clear up. Linden was adorable and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Starting again is not what he had expected to do but that is what he needs to do with his young son. They will move in next to them and they see him as a new start for them. Life is not going to be easy for them both. How will it all go? Will they have a happy ending? How will it all go? Follow their journey to a hopeful happy ending

Couple things: This book is about cheating. MC1 just divorced his wife who was cheating on him, and MC2 cheats on his wife (spontaneously, not planned, because they have a bad marriage) with MC1. Given how much romance readers viscerally dislike cheating, I feel like that should have been in the blurb. I thought this might be interesting to pursue, how they can reconcile this situation, but then the author made all the women a terrible people (except maybe MC1's sisters, who are super maternal and protective, natch). MC1's ex is a neglectful b*tch and terrible, unnatural mother. MC1's brother's ex is a neglectful b*tch and terrible, unnatural mother. (These guys are the best dads ever, obviously, and their father who was a single dad (widower) is also the best dad ever.) AND MC2's wife is set up to be unreasonable, unlikeable, and not meeting his needs (he's touch starved, which leads to the cheating kiss in the beginning). And I just didn't think I needed that kind of misogyny in my reading.

I’m the type of reader who loves to be challenged. I want a book to hit me in the feels and if it can make me think deeper about a subject, I love it even more. Abrianna Denae hit this out of the park.

First, I want to say how much I love the storyline itself. There’s such a richness and vividness to it. That alone makes the book special. It’s also one of those rare books that had me yelling at the pages over characters’ decisions. And yet…that’s the beauty of it. The author wrote it so well, I felt completely immersed in their story.

This wasn’t an easy book for me, by any means. The moral dilemma posed is a tough one that my initial gut reaction was no, there’s no room for ambiguity here. However, it becomes very clear throughout the book that there’s so much more than goes into that decision and the ripples of making it.

It left me with the quandary of do I root for these two to be together and if so what does it mean? I loved that. I loved the pushback from this book, being forced to look at my ideals and wonder what-ifs. I especially appreciated the careful research the author did on the topic and how she weaved that into the storyline.

This book is unconventional. It won’t be for everyone. But for me? It’s my top read this year. I can’t wait for more in this series. I have a feeling Abrianna Denae will take me through that rollercoaster of emotions every single time and I’m here for it.

Finally, I got my hands on a cheating book. Sorry that behavior seems to be a big red X but it is a fact of life more than people would like to think. I don’t condone it but I like books that touch real issues make me stop and think. This story sure did that. Kit, with great family connections, is dealing with being a single dad after his wife cheated on him and left him. He is struggling with being the one cheated on. As he moves to be closer to his family, he is introduced to a new next-door neighbor. Larson is another personality all together. Irritating and loveable. He owns a bakery and has fallen into a routine life with his wife that has lost its excitement. When these two meet its almost instant attraction. They do quite a dance around each other as friends and ….
I love the family support that Kit and his family provide each other. I feel Lindon is a portrayed a little older than a four-year-old but probably needed for the story to fit. I think there are plenty of twists and I wondered which way the guys would decide what they were going to do. This is a great story with a lot of being so close to reality that I thanked the author for providing me with something that wasn’t all fluff. I’m anxious to see the next in this series.

Kit and Law ❤️

5 Oh so complicated stars 🌟

Ok so first off, I'm going to be very vague with this review... due to the fact that the author asked for discretion with information about this story and I will respect that.

Never in a million years did I expect to be sucked into a story with.... let's just say...a complicated storyline such as this one, however...I fell and I fell hard for these two men and their story. It packs an emotional punch right out of the gate and sucks you right in. Kit is a divorced father of a four year old son who just moved into a new home, Lawson is his neighbor and resident baker.....let's just say from the moment they meet sparks fly, waters get muddied, cookies are baked, sexy times are had and complications arise that never seem to let up until the end of the story....however, throughout it all we have an extremely touching and endearing love story starring two sexy men and an adorable little boy ❤️ through all of the hardships, guilt and complex happenings it's about found family and love. I ate it up and licked the bowl 😂 I thought it was perfect and I highly recommend this book, give it a try...it will not disappoint.

This was definitely an unexpected story with enough events to capture my attention. Between the cheating, incompetent parents, and half pints with so much sass, this author brought what is not most readers cup of tea and brouhaha their own twists.

𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘩𝘰𝘵 𝘯𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘣𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘯 𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘰𝘯𝘦.

Kit and Lawson’s connection was instantaneous, continuing to build throughout the stories entirety, even with their resistance. They were absolutely perfect for each other, even with their extenuating circumstances. As expected with a half pint included, there wasn’t a tremendous amount of smut scenes, but there were a lot of intimate moments.

ℕ𝕖𝕚𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕣 𝕠𝕟𝕖 𝕠𝕗 𝕦𝕤 𝕒𝕣𝕖 𝕓𝕒𝕕 𝕡𝕖𝕠𝕡𝕝𝕖. 𝕎𝕖 𝕛𝕦𝕤𝕥 𝕨𝕖𝕣𝕖𝕟’𝕥 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕣𝕚𝕘𝕙𝕥 𝕡𝕖𝕠𝕡𝕝𝕖 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕖𝕒𝕔𝕙 𝕠𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕣.

This was such a beautifully written book, touching on sensitive topics that was handled with care. A story of choices and consequences, whether they be negative or positive, but how they are handled. I absolutely loved the psychological aspect of this book, which is rarely included in these issues.

“ʸᵒᵘ ʰᵃᵈ ˢˡᵉᵉᵖᵒᵛᵉʳ? ᴵ ˡⁱᵏᵉ ˢˡᵉᵉᵖᵒᵛᵉʳˢ.”

Linden was absolutely adorable with his sass and toddler quotes! I felt so bad for him and what his mother (or lack there of) treated him. No child should be forced to deal with a parent who isn’t 100% committed!

There is a warning in the book blurb you should read before reading the book. This will not be everyone’s cup of tea.
I liked it because it shows life and people are not perfect. Situations change. People change. Relationships change.

Kit finds himself going through lots of changes. A divorce, custody of his 3 year old son, a new job. A new house and neighborhood.
Luckily he has a supportive father that helps and several siblings as well.
His family gives us lots of characters to love.
His Neighbor Lawson is friendly, has a brother with twins that also gives us more characters to like.
I adore kids in books and there is lots to love especially Kits son Lindon who is a main character in his own right lol.

This is a very heartfelt story that is realistic about family and relationships and life in general.
If you like these kinds of books and cute kids, supportive families and a happy ending you will enjoy this book.

So I get that people had a hard time with this book due to the cheating but I actually like that because it is real and people actually go through this. I felt this book was really well written and hit on some realistic topics and overall liked the book. I really enjoyed Kit's family and how supportive they were. I do find it odd how Kit justified his and Lawson's relationship after having been cheated on by Anna. However what I didn't like was Lawson. As a person Lawson comes across as likeable but he is so wishy washy. He repeatedly says how his marriage is unhappy with Grace but he doesn't want to leave her, but he also doesn't want to leave Kit. While I can get that, what I don't get is when Grace asks for a divorce and is brutally honest about how she feels, he still wants to be with her and then still also wants to hide his relationship with Lawson.

Overall I really appreciated the book, the only thing I didn't like was one of the MCs, because he was just irredeemable to me.

I’m not sure how long this was sitting in my app but when I was looking for something to read this showed up. Since this is a new author for me, I read some of the reviews. One stood out, they DNF because they don’t condone cheating. In my opinion, they should have kept reading it. I’m the same, cheating isn’t my thing but I understand why some do it.

Kit and his son, Linden, just relocated after Kit’s divorce to start a new life. Last thing he expected was his cute neighbor stopping by to welcome him to the area. They both have been through a lot but find themselves growing closer every time they hang out. But when a bomb throws their budding relationship into a tale spin, will they be strong enough to survive it??

I need more of these characters especially Weston, Landry and the twins. 🖤🔥😊🔥🖤

I don't have a lot to say on this one. I just didn't really like it - it was fine, but felt lacking in areas.

My issues have nothing to do with the cheating or lying done by the main characters, I knew what I was getting into. However, I feel like I needed sooo much more convincing of this relationship. Things happened way too fast, most of the dialogue in the first half of the book felt unnatural, and really, I just wanted things to be sloooowed down. Give each scene time to breathe a little, so I can get a feel for characters and their building relationships with each other. Why are Kit and Lawson pining for/missing each other on the 5th page after just meeting? I understand physical passion can heat up quickly between people, but emotional too? It just didn’t work for me, as a reader.

This book had good things going for it though. I enjoyed Kit’s son Linden, it was cute watching a toddler be a wingman for these two men. The writing wasn’t bad, but I think there’s room for growth. I’d pick up more from this author in the future.
