Golden Hour of You and Me

Rate this book
Sheyanne Shaw hates nothing more than she hates her hometown of Flagstaff, Arizona.

Except maybe being forced to return to it. After escaping her estranged relationship with her father, leaving behind her brother and her best friends, she returns after four years away. All to help her father in sorting out the house and the stables she grew up on. But she is not just greeted by him and the demons she tried so hard to leave behind.

Liam Landon never thought he’d step foot in such a small town.

Raised in the city of Vegas, the small town was not what he expected. Hired to help Mr. Shaw manage his finances, he can’t turn down the opportunity to help out his grandparents and start building a life for himself. While traveling for the job isn’t unheard of as a freelancer, it’s a bit different to be expected to stay for three months. Liam is open to it—only to be met with the absolute spitfire of his boss’s daughter.

Sheyanne is forced to confront her demons and her past relationships that have faded into nothing in the years she’s been gone. And she is forced to confront Liam. A man here on limited time, who seems to see straight through her defenses. He is cool, calm, and collected, and there for her every step of the way.

When faced with her worst fear and her own thoughts, will Sheyanne decide to leave like before?

Or will she stay?

confirmed: katie never misses.
golden hour is actually one of the best books i’ve ever read and i genuinely don’t know where i would be without it and as much as i wish i could write a full essay here i’ll just say that THIS book is the one that everyone needs to read at least once in their life.
sheyanne (!!!) i love her sm🥲 i feel like many people would be able to relate to her, her growth, HER in general. i seriously can’t even put into words how great i think she is
and liam 🫶🏼 liam the love of my life (i will be saying this about ever man katie writes about and no one can stop me) i’m never moving on from him. from the first moment you meet him you WILL fall in love with him
anyways i can’t wait for the 20th when everyone can see for themselves how great they are, their relationship is what i hope to one day have

3.75. I didn’t really have any problems with this book, it was very sweet, but like it could have been 200 pages shorter.

this book omg…it’s so beautiful. that’s genuinely the best word to describe it.

it took a bit for me to find my groove with this story icl but every chapter will pull you in more and more, immerse you in the relationships and world. it felt like i was transported in the shaw ranch and watching every little detail play out in real time. the simplicity of the power of the writing was one of my favourite things.

sheyanne, in the beginning, she’s not written as character meant to be instantly liked but you’re supposed to learn to love her. the rough edges and all. i think that’s what makes this whole story even better, that when you come out at the end your opinion of her will never be what it was from the start. she’s such a strong character and there are aspects of her personality i resonated with and i think the hope you get from reading her development as well as the love story is just amazing

liam…that’s a real man right there. like where is my own liam landon?? i’m tired of waiting. him being the perfect book bf aside, his character was the sweetest and so understanding and i absolutely loved it. cause let’s be real, who doesn’t want someone like that in their life?

the emotions i felt reading this was more than i expected but its soo utterly…well beautiful and heartbreaking. i really think its impossible to regret reading it

also honorary mention to shane and mj, i adore them

i read k. jamila’s debut novel, mine would be you, back in march this year and since first hearing about this second book, golden hour of you and me, i’ve been looking forward to getting to dive into sheyanne and liam’s story; and let me just say that i was NOT disappointed.

something that will take a romance book to the next level for me is when the main characters aren’t simply reduced to being part of a couple. & i LOVED the fact that shey and liam’s relationship was so incredibly healthy and wonderful but that they were also such real and fleshed out characters individually.

the author kindly provided this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

"Nothing else matters when you're around. I only see you."

Katie has my heart yet again!! This is her second book and just as amazing as her first, which I had zero doubt about.

The Golden Hour of You and Me holds so much emotion in one book. It deals with so many themes and although it has a more serious vibe in terms of those themes compared to MWBY, I was hooked in the whole time. She balances those themes perfectly and you experience every emotion the main characters were feeling. Liam was the perfect book boyfriend and while Sheyanne took me a little longer to warm up to, I love her also and you really feel for everything she is going through.

I haven't experienced what Sheyanne did, but a similar experience allows you to understand to a small extent what she's feeling. I love how the book could get you to compare your own experiences and just encompass so much emotion.

There are so many quotes in the book that make you step back and think. They allow you to understand two sides to a story, and they are quotes you can live by. Also of course I have to talk about the romance, it is truly amazing. I loved how the main characters got to where they were. It was so unique and a romance to remember.

Let me just start by saying this book is SO appropriately titled! If the feeling of ‘golden hour’ could be captured in a book, it would easily be this one. And if that doesn’t convince you to read it, I don’t know what will 🌄

Sheyanne & Liam come into each other’s lives in such a unique way. From there, they develop a love story that is parallel to the kindling of a flame and setting of the sun, in which they slowly get to know one another before realizing they need each other in their lives 🧡

Sheyanne is our grumpy but lovable heroine. She starts this book with some resentment and hostility, but it’s clear that those things come from a place of hurt and an unresolved past. On the other hand, Liam is described as an anchor in this book, and I would have to agree. Not the heavy and hindering kind, but the kind that feels like a home and is always there to ground you whenever you need it ⚓ He is definitely a ‘words of affirmation’ man but also has the actions to back up his incredible words 😫 I COULD NOT handle the sheer perfection of him, and I swear he has a master’s degree in ‘Man Written by a Woman’ because how else could he be so perfect 😭

Mostly, I loved how this book is Sheyanne’s story as much as it is a romance. It hit a little too close to home to read about her internal battles, but it was worth it, and I learned a lot from her. Witnessing Sheyanne make amends with people from her past and grow as a character was everything and more 🥹 Liam being the most patient and unwavering force in her life was just the cherry on top of the cake. They deserve the world, and I’m so glad they found each other 🫶

Anyways, this was another masterpiece written by Katie! Her characters and writing are always so beautiful, and this book was no different 🤧 I’m a better person for reading this book, and I’m so so thankful for it. The only thing I’m mad about is that I don’t have my own Liam 🥲

Thank you so much to Katie for an ARC of this book 💛

“Every golden hour to come belongs to you and me.”

thank you so much katie for an arc 😭 i’m not emotionally ready to talk about this but let’s try anyway. i loved this book more than words can explain. it’s easily become my favourite book this year and it will stay with me forever.

sheyanne my girl. i love her so so much i want to give her the biggest hug. she is the strongest character i have ever read about and she deserves everything. i related to sheyanne in many different aspects it felt like she was me. the way she grew and came to love herself i’m so proud of her.

liam was the sweetest guy ever I LOVED HIM. i need my own liam landon in my life. he was so loving and patient towards sheyanne and would do absolutely anything for her. their relationship was so beautiful and i literally cried at multiple parts during this book.

katie you went above and beyond for this book. your books mean so much to me and your writing is SO BEAUTIFUL. so proud of you!!! 🫶🏻 and seeing my name in the acknowledgements made me sob i love u sm <3

k. jamila just never misses. never ever. golden hour of you and me has been one of my most anticipated reads for the year and i could not have loved this book anymore. sheyanne shaw goes through one of the most beautiful character developments i have ever read.

not only that, but k. jamila never fails to write the most healthiest relationships in a book, truly the perfect example of how relationships should be.

this book had me absolutely sobbing (which rarely happens) and i’m ready to immediately begin a re-read.

Katie never disappoints

i said it before and i’ll say it again SHE WRITES THE BEST FIRST KISS SCENES IDK HOW SHE DOES IT BUT THEY ARE JUST EXCELLENT THE WAY SHE WRITES DOWN THE EMOTIONS literally the scene is like 7 pages long idk?? it’s just so so so good the writing is amazing
This book is such an emotional one i personally couldn’t relate to multiple stuff from the book but i feel like a lot of people could feel identified with the main character and that could make you understand even more why she’s acting that way throughout the book. Liam was the perfect match for Sheyanne always trying to know the real her and always supported her; it’s hard to describe them but i just loved them and their relationship, i didn’t want it to end so i took my time reading this one and I’m not finishing this without mentioning the last chapter because that was beautifullll

“You don’t know anything about me or my image, pretty boy.”

“You can’t run away from everything.”

“Stop looking at me like that, Liam”
“Like you’re trying to figure me out.”

“Am I that easy to read?”
“For me.”

“Why are you staring at me?”
“I felt like it.”
“Am I up to your standards, Shaw?”
“Are you fishing for a compliment?”

Idc what anyone says imma always stick beside Katie🫶🏾🫶🏾 She’s never disappointed me and once again delivered an incredible body of work!!

Sheyanne could be so discombobulating at times but if anything I’m just like her and could relate to her internal struggles. She didn’t always deal with things the right way but she eventually found her footing at her own terms and was able to better herself. Her development was amazing 🥹🥹

Liam🤭🤭 I’m getting giddy just thinking about him(I could pass out) He was the sweetest bean!!!! Such a reassuring babe but also managed to put her in her place when needed. The way that man communicated???? I’m an absolute goner🙈 and let’s not talk about him literally needing to always touch her *deep breath*

This book was so personal to me that it managed to get its fair share of tears out of me 🧍🏽‍♀️…. but that’s okay. The familial relationships were just 💔💔

HONOURABLE mention for my man Shane!!!! I love that man so much😭😭😭 and can’t wait for y’all to fall in love with him and everyone else too 🤭

“Every golden hour to come belongs to you and me.”

I don't have enough words to explain everything this book made me feel, it's absolutely beautiful and I can't wait for everyone to read Liam and Sheyanne story🤧

Sheyanne Shaw what a strong and admirable character, I just want to give her a big hug for everything. I really enjoyed seeing the great progress, growth and healing Shey had, I'm really proud of her.

Liam Landon please what a beautiful and perfect man ALL OF US NEED A LIAM IN OUR LIVES🧎🏽‍♀️
Always so understanding and kind to Shey, I loved that he always supported her and gave her the space she needed even if it hurt, the beautiful relationship these two created was just a caress to my soul, I love them so much 🤧

I really like that Katie always talks about the importance of taking care of your mental health, it is not something that many writers do, I have read stories where you magically heal with love and reality is not like that, of course love is an important aspect in life but going with a professional is the right thing to do
So I really liked (even if it hurt) that Shey took a step back and decided to start working on herself without Liam, so that in the future they can have a healthier and stronger relationship 🧡

The other characters Shane, MJ, Blake, Gaylee, Liam's grandparents, Wyatt, Mr. Shaw (I'm sad for him) are amazing and I love them💞.

Another thing to be thankful is the beautiful extended epilogue that Katie included at the end, was perfect and filled my heart with love🥺

Golden hour of you and me is a heartbreakingly beautiful book that you can't miss🧡

Thank you so much Katie for the ARC💌

Golden hour of you and me es un libro desgarradoramente hermoso que no te puedes perder🧡

Muchas gracias a Katie (K.Jamila) por el ARC💌

Soft and quiet

So soft and sweet, with a hero who is all kinds of swoony, there was a lot to love about this slow-burning romance. Our heroine is angry and confrontational, actively trying to keep people out, and this patient, steady hero sees right through her. I loved that the premise felt unique, and I loved that the relationship progresses in such a quiet, tentative way. The plot had me hooked, the hero kept me turning the pages, and there were so many swoony moments that made it feel uplifting. I do think this could've used another round of edits - the author's distinct, flowing writing style definitely made a statement (mostly good), and there were some sentence structures that had me scratching my head. It also lost points with an overly drawn out ending, though I can't begrudge the way it played out. So this remained a strong 4/low 5-star read for me the whole way through, and I'm looking forward to more from this new-to-me author.

The story follows Sheyanne, a 22-year-old woman who fled her hometown as soon as she could. It's not that she hates the small town she grew up in, but she acted out as a teenager, and that's left some lasting effects. So when she's called home to help her estranged father gets his affairs in order as he grapples with an Alzheimer's diagnosis, Sheyanne reluctantly agrees. Sharing a home with her dad and brother - even temporarily - is the last thing Sheyanne wants, and it's made even worse when she discovers that her dad has hired a live-in consultant to draw up some plans. Sheyanne takes an immediate dislike to Liam, and having the buttoned-up man around while witnessing her at her worst is certainly not ideal. But the two form a reluctant friendship that soon feels like more, and Sheyanne realizes that coming home might've been the best thing to ever happen to her.

I really wasn't sure what to expect from this relatively new author, but I quickly discovered that I loved the vibe. It's the kind of story that should feel heavy and angsty - and there are definitely moments of that - but it mostly just feels tender and soft. It also helped that I adored Liam, who was such a loving and patient guy. He might've been too good to be true, so I did appreciate having a few chapters from his point of view. This is very much Sheyanne's story, however, and her growth throughout was great to see. Not just in falling for Liam, but in repairing old relationships and doing the work to improve herself... which is why I can't really complain about the final act, though I kind of want to. I was still strongly considering rounding up to 5 stars (editing issues don't really bug me), but I couldn't bring myself to do it after the drawn out ending. Regardless, it was a strong book from such a new author, and I'm excited to see what she writes next.

5/5 || Katie already knows how in awe of her i am and how i would read literally anything she wrote but this was on a whole other level.

“Golden hour used to be my favorite thing in the world, the golden sky and all the stunning shades that followed, but Liam is my favorite thing to exist ever. Liam makes me feel golden”.

Diving into another world of Katie’s wasn’t difficult or hard it felt like coming home again. The writing captures your attention and hooks you into the story being told. I never ever EVER thought that a book could beat mine would be you (jackson my love) but i felt even more connected to this book than i’ve ever felt before.

Sheyanne was so easy for me to relate to, that’s probably why this book will hold a forever place in my heart. Her struggle with anxiety is also a constant battle i face so it was very easy to understand actions she chose and ways she behaved. Her love for Liam throughout the book was other worldly. Liam is one of the most perfect book boyfriends i’ve ever read (yes that does includes jackson but only by a little). His love for her was so authentic i cried so much.

Katie has a way of writing the most realistic romances you could ever read. They are authentic and make such an impact on any reader. I love you Katie so much and i know that you could take this entire industry by storm. This is your world and we’re just living in it. (i cried so much seeing my name in those acknowledgments!! i appreciate you so much).

This book was beautiful. Beautifully written.
The character growth, and support that she has…

Liam is so good for her and I’m happy she was able to get to that place of peace on her own. But with his silent support.

Following her spectacular intrinsically beautiful debut novel, Mine Would be You, Katie delves into a world in the light of Golden hour, a vortex of the earth that is experienced by so few but appreciated by the masses.

Book: Golden Hour of You and Me
Author: K.Jamila
Spice Rating: ★★★.5/5
Plot Rating: ★★★★★/5
Overall Rating: ★★★★★/5

𝐍𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐤𝐲 𝐢𝐬, 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐚 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐛𝐨𝐰 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐬𝐤𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐲, 𝐈 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐞'𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐬𝐤𝐲, 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒕 𝒎𝒂𝒚 𝒃𝒆, 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒘𝒆'𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒕 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒘𝒆 𝒅𝒐 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒆. 𝑻𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓.

As one of the people who pushed me to write through her beautiful writing, it's no surprise to me that I laughed, cried, died and revived during the read through of this I did. Katie's descriptions render me voiceless every time, the talent of penmanship written all over her work.

This is an unconventional romance, it revolves all around the girl. and that's the beauty of it. We see wholeheartedly the true colors of Sheyeanne and they're just as golden as golden hour. She's flawed, far from perfect but also content with not reaching that point. The trigger warning of the anxiety discussions in this book are much necessary, because the person you're introduced to and the person you cry about leaving in the pages of this book are so similar yet so distant. The growth and the setbacks that are delved into in this book set apart this book so beautifully. Also, I'm completely disregarding the masterpiece of Liam Landon, and before ya'll claim him, he's mine. Sorry Sheyeanne.

If you want a comfortable book that takes you into an illustrative world that elevates you out of this one, this book is the one for you. Although some of this is exaggerated, cue my love for Katie's writing, I was provided an arc for an honest review, and it is my honest opinion.

“And you know I’m in love with every version of you, right?”

“I’m all yours, Shaw.”

Where to begin? first of all im so so grateful Katie gave me an arc to review of a book that is so so important to her, i swear i feel so grateful and so happy for her! happy release day katie!!! then god this book was a rollercoaster of emotions, some sad, frustrated, others just so happy and laughing! sheyanne shaw journey throughout this book was impressive and so good so so good! at first i wasn't really liking sheyanne tho i wanted to hug her and at the same time just shake her, i saw her development and i fell in love with her right after! sheyanne is a complex character, who still was trying to find herself and trying not to become her old self, seeing her accomplish that was out of this world and made me respect sheyanne so much more! then the family dynamic? at first being a little tense but then we can totally see how close they are and how deeply they care for each other? her brother, shane was so fun and so wholesome with his girlfriend ugh they were so cute!
Then everytime sheyanne had a scene with her father i wanted to cry and then be happy for them then sob like a baby, truly beautiful. liam landon? one of the best book boyfriends ever and i hope YALL give him the recognition he deserves, the way he was always there for sheyanne, how he cared for her, how he wanted to be with her forever, just so sweet and so kind ugh!
I know this book is so much more than the romance, this story is truly about sheyanne and finding herself and be proud of herself and trying harder and harder, and figured it out how to love herself and katie's writing is definitely one of my faves for sure!
SO PLEASE GO READ GOLDEN HOUR OF YOU AND ME OUT NOW GO!

“I love you, Liam Landon.”

So, he kisses me like I’m his lifeline, and I kiss him like he is mine.

I was lucky enough to be given an ARC of Golden Hour and honestly speaking, I would buy a million copies and give them out to everyone i met if i could.

I want to preface this by saying: I had read an incomplete draft of Golden Hour when it was still on wattpad and have followed the author on social media for  a few years now, so i walked in fully expecting to love it. And I wasn't wrong.

Without spoiling it, GHOYAM is a beautiful story about mental health, love, friendship, family and so much more. We witness the growth of the main character Sheyenne Shaw as she moves back home to a town she hates and people she's been avoiding. The book unfolds as she is forced to confront all the feelings that made her run away in the first place. Oh and she's coming home to a family with... a complicated dynamic. Of course, she is doing this as she falls in love with Liam Landon, best man ever.

I won't speak much on the romance aspect to avoid spoilers but i will say this: It is beautiful to watch how Liam is a partner to Sheyenne. I think everyone who struggles with mental health in some way and is constantly plagued with the fear that their struggles make them difficult or even impossible to love will walk away from this book a little bit lighter.

It almost feels disingenuous to trope-ify this book. Sheyenne is a complex character who is to put it plainly: really easy to hate at first glance. But K.Jamila writes her honestly, shows us her flaws and hurts and fears in such a way that you walk away remembering how vulnerable and multi-faceted humans really are.

AND OH MY LORD, THE SIDE SUPPORTING CHARACTERS? It's rare that an author is able to fully flesh out the supporting characters and make you experience them the same way you experience the main characters. I fell in love with every single one of them alongside my main girl, Sheyenne.

This is getting really long so I'm ending it with: K.Jamila has done it again. 5 stars!!

COMFORT! COMFORT! COMFORT!

K’s books are always a comfort for me.

It is also alway great to find my new favourite song while listening to a book playlist.

As I have said K. Jamila’s books are always a comfort for me and I’m so freakishly happy I’m on her arc team and I get to share my love for her books with her readers.

I started it today, I finished it today, and here in Ireland we are in the middle of a thunderstorm. It was the comfort read to read on a rainy day with my heated blanket, imagining I was on a farm and work had to be put off because of the rain.

K never fails to transport you to a different world and make you feel like the characters. She is the best in bring out the autumn to winter vibe and I love reading every second of this.

I love the representation of this book. Not only of the racial and cultural representation but also the mental health representation. Books that have diversity are an immediate read for me. Plus as someone who is experience a loved one suffering because of a degenerative disease is always hard and greatly appreciated when I see a small representation of it in books. It remind me, like Sheyanne, that I am not alone.

It’s rare I give a book five stars because I am one of the pickiest people when it comes to everything. But I found my comfort books and comfort author and for Katie five stars are going to come easy now.

PS. Katie put me in the acknowledgements. Totally not freaking out.

PPS. The extended epilogue takes place in Ireland and it was really cool to read that. (I’m still in the same shock I was when I found out the setting)

GOD SHE HAS DONE IT AGAIN

Golden Hour of You and Me will never be touched. It is sacred. My holy bible. I pray to it every night. I have so many yet not enough words to describe how much I absolutely loved this book. I am crumbling. I am a mess.

From the first word, I could feel all the emotion and soul Katie has put into this book and it is something I am so honoured to have read. The way Sheyanne grew so much as a character and know what she needed to get to her end goal to heal from the trauma and pain she was dealing with… I just admired her so much. I am actually her #1 fan and protector.

This story is so much more than a love story. SO MUCH more. It’s about facing your mistakes, healing from those mistakes, healing, mental health awareness, for the girls who felt the never belonged anywhere, piecing yourself back together, strength in being able to do it on your own. I could go on. I feel like this book taught me so much.

As a carer in an Aged Care facility, this god damn broke me watching her father decline because I see it every day. I see older people every day not remember those closest to them or what they had for dinner, or what they’re doing in that place. It was heart breaking seeing it in a perspective of a family member and I just feel like I need to give my family a big hug and even the ones at work.

I swear this needs to be NYT best seller right this minute
