Ditch insomnia in as little as 4 weeks with this 6-step therapeutic program for better sleep. Insomnia looks different for everyone. Whether it’s caused by stress, a traumatic life event, or even a snoring partner, poor sleep can affect the quality of your waking life. But Dr. Pedram Navab wants readers to know that it’s not a lost cause―falling asleep can be just as easy as waking up. With his cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT-I) program, paired with relatable case studies of different sleep disorders, readers are guided to new and improved sleep in as little as 4 weeks. In Sleep Reimagined , the 6-step CBT-I program teaches readers how to understand sleep, rewire their arousal system through therapeutic relaxation, practice sleep restriction and stimulus control, restructure attitudes towards sleep, use mindfulness intervention to continue cognitive components, and prevent insomnia relapse through planning. Both comprehensive and entertaining, this book is the perfect bedside companion to discover better sleep and better life.

I have read many books on sleep and mostly read this to see if there were any new tidbits. The author seems sincere in wanting to help. The book is not preachy. I did learn specific things about certain methods I have tried in the past (tried them all) that were helpful. And he talked about specific drugs/side effects that I found interesting.

Very interesting look into the complex world of sleep. I definitely take for granted restful nights and loved learning more about various sleep disorders, especially insomnia and how CBTI can be used to help improve sleep. This book had practical advice and tips that I will be using to help my own sleep.

Sleep Reimagined is an incredibly interesting peek inside the human mind and the trips and wires of sleep. I learned more than I thought I would out of this short, easy listening experience of a book.

Thinking this would be a self help book (which it is), one might expect to hear a boring, monotone nonfictional guide, or, on the other end of the spectrum, a chipper person telling you it’s all mind over matter! Type of thing. This was nothing of the sort. Having all the medical accuracy and data I love to prove it’s theories and methods, the book also uses dictations provided by “characters” experiences. You get to see a dialogue set up between doctor and patient, and hear thinks both from the doctor’s POV, as well as the “patient’s” diaries, thought process, or other method of delivery.

The book offers several methods I am planning on using myself. Besides being an avid reader and book reviewer, I’m also a medical patient who has issues with what appears to be insomnia, mixed with some other type of sleep issue. While I also was looking for help with my dreaded sleep paralysis (mentioned but not offered solutions on), the book did offer several methods of CBTI/ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, as well as help with others issues I have like Restless Leg Syndrome. I am one who suffers trying to sleep at night, but who is ALWAYS falling asleep and needing naps. This was a way to keep my interest and like I said, based on the book, I’m going to try some methods. I’d love to get this doctor’s opinion on my particular case in real life!

Overall, I rate this book:

🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 Stars.

The only reason it falls short of 5 is I felt there was an unnecessary (and unexpected, not mentioned) amount of curse words, including 3? F bombs…

Pegram Navab has authored a slim book of 6 principles for refreshing rest. It all starts with a sleep journal. Surprisingly, waking in the night is not a big deal nor is sleeping less than eight hours. Techniques to bring sleep back in line are offered as well as ways to tease out the sort of Insomnia one is dealing with(which have different treatments). the book is divided in two parts, one with "case studies" and the second part thorough medical discussion. A very helpful, hopeful instruction manual for reclaiming great sleep.

This book has some useful case studies of various types of insomnia as well as some applicable tips and tricks. I found the writing itself to be easy to read and at times a little too movie-esque for my tastes.

Some valuable tips that I have required to help with the nights I can't fall asleep. The particular one that appears to be helping is 'sleep time/bed time. If % is more than 85% you can go to bed 15 minutes earlier. If % is less that 80% go to bed 15 minutes later.

Pretty good! Haven't tried the techniques outlined in this book yet but on paper they all align with the tips to general habit-making that I found in James Clears' Atomic Habits, so I'm excited to try them out.

I find that I resonate particularly with the aspect of catastrophizing, where I am too anxious to go to sleep for fear that I will not wake up in time for class in the morning, and then the anxiousness prevents me from going to sleep which then leads to me oversleeping my morning classes. I also just have bad sleep hygiene. I am very glad to have received ideas on how to resolve these issues.

Thought this would be helpful tips and tricks for better sleep. No, this covers a few people who suffer from specific problems and how this doctor helped them.

Can't imagine this being relevant to many readers.

I received the early audiobook from Dreamscapes or National Geographic books and netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.

This book gave a client based insight into how to help get more sleep. I found it more interesting this way. This was an interesting read however if someone is looking to figure out their own sleep problems it may not be the best book. I found it a good read to understand sleeping patterns and general sleep problems. I have friends who struggle with sleep and this book would give them a decent idea of where to start. However it would still be important to seek professional help. Overall an interesting read.

I have had what I thought was insomnia since I was a child. Treatment as an adult hasn’t helped. That’s 50 years of angst over my sleep, of being out of sync with everyone except two immediate family members, of feeling like a complete dirtbag because my natural circadian rhythm was incompatible with an 8-5 society.

The methods in this book FIXED MY SLEEP. When I follow the methods, the methods work. Do I like the methods? No. I want to let blue light blaze my retinas until the moment before I go to sleep. I want to prowl around at night in the silence and quiet and go to sleep at 5:00am. But I also want to be awake at the same time as my husband, friends, and dog, and since they are all cursed morning creatures, I want to follow suit.

I learned so much from this book, and it is so much more than just “sleep hygiene.” That’s part of it, sure, but it is just the tip of the iceberg.

This book confirmed what I had suspected: My internal clock does not match that of the daywalkers. But there is an easy fix that just takes diligence and a little math.

This book covers a ton of sleep issues, not just insomnia and sleep phase disorders. It also goes into sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, nighttime panic attacks, etc. The book is comprised of stories of patients with various sleep disorders in part one, and cognitive behavioral therapy in part two.

I listened to this book on audio, through the Libby app, but I’m going to buy the actual paper book to have on hand. This is probably the most valuable book I have ever read. I’d give it 10 stars if I could.

If you’re not getting enough quality sleep, and most of us aren’t, this book offers many helpful suggestions. What I love so much about this book is that rather than offering the same old sleep hygiene advice, neurologist and sleep-medicine specialist Dr. Pedram Navab provides case studies to help you understand various sleep disorders, such as advanced or delayed sleep phase disorders, sleep apnea, and restless legs syndrome. In the second part of the book, he explains his 6-step cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) program.

The book is written in a friendly and encouraging tone. In each case study, Dr. Navab describes a patient’s concerns, his diagnosis, and his recommended treatment plan. He provides the best, most thorough advice I have ever encountered for circadian rhythm problems, including sleep phase disorders and dealing with shift work.

Pete Cross did a great job with narration. He’s easy to understand, and his pacing and emphasis are wonderful. I found this audiobook interesting and informative, although I would like to obtain an ebook that I could bookmark and highlight for easier reference.

I received an advanced listener’s copy of this audiobook through NetGalley. I volunteered to provide an honest review.

The package here is the secret to this book's high rating. None of the information in it is new, nor does it provide any great revelations or controversies on the science of sleep. What it does offer is a course in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia. Literally. The second half of the book lays out what you would cover in each of the 6 weekly sessions, including homework. The first half of the book provides an outline of insomnia and insomnia-like illnesses, but through the much more readable lens of anecdote. Both parts give the reader a clear idea of what a treatment plan for insomnia would look like and when they would need to engage with a medical practitioner. If only there were more books for other common illnesses with this kind of clarity!

I really enjoyed this audiobook.

Two of the stories really stuck out to me. The woman who was terrified of getting fired due to her sleep issues which caused her more sleep issues and the woman who had a delayed circadian rhythm. I liked that the author pointed out that there is nothing wrong with having this sleep cycle...and that these people are usually creative and can thrive even though their sleep is this way.

Don't know if it helped me with my sleep problems but it made me feel better.

I enjoyed the way the case studies were presented in conversational style between the client and the specialist. The book presents an easy to follow, comfortable approach to the problems involved with insomnia. Sleep disorders of all types and magnitudes are described in this book with practical treatment ideas for each one. The Cognitive Behaviour Intervention Therapy section includes many, many more ways to address insomnia, making it easy to select some micro changes or big changes to suit the needs of the reader.

I have a handful of sleep disorders (yay!), mostly post-birth, some medicated (love that CPAP!) and I appreciated Pedram Navab's walking the reader through many issues and strong suggestions on how to better approach a good night's sleep. I am a champion sleeper. By this, I do not mean that I am GOOD at it, but I am happy to chase it in any corner. Navab's advice is sound and methodical and includes the typical anecdote, case narrative, and guidance.

Book has many scenarios of people who have had difficulty sleeping. The audio book reader changes his voice for each persons story which is a little annoying.

Most scenarios are about trouble going to sleep. Not many scenarios are on being able to sleep but waking up early and not being able to fall asleep again. Maybe my situation is not sleep and something else or maybe I shouldn't self diagnose based on one book.

Really good information in here - lots that would be pretty easy to implement for someone struggling with insomnia. My sticking point was the language used in the case studies. The characters didn’t talk like actual people - lots of $25 words that just didn’t sound natural. If you can get past that, though, there are some great tips to be had.

Solid information with anecdotes of different scenarios. I am doomed to be a night owl in a morning person society, I can't adjust my schedule as many of these books suggest, due to varying schedules and days off. I am also unaffected by melatonin supplements. Hopefully others find help here.

excellent read

My doctor recommended cbt. But before doing it, I wanted to learn more about it before hand. This book is extremely helpful and I can’t wait to try some of this. I love love to be proactive in all areas of my recovery and sleep is one of those areas.

It was originally a 3.5 (generally an okay book, personally enjoyed the 2nd part more) but you can tell he really tried to make it fun and relatable for the audience, especially with the advice column portion... so rounded up to a 4 for his efforts!
