St. Paul U Players #2

Your Kiss Is On My List

Rate this book
It may be a bad idea to pretend I'm dating my kid sister's best friend.
Not to mention awkward because our friend zone is bordered by barb wire and even though I've known her since she had scraped knees and missing front teeth, she's not that kid anymore.

Now? She's a knockout who has my heart beating too fast and other body parts standing at attention.

And then there was that kiss...
Back in 7th grade when we were both still awkward. I still dream about it even though we've been nothing but friends since. Still compare that kiss to every kiss since.
Never mind.

A favor is a favor--and I owe her.
I just hope she doesn't regret getting herself into bed with the wrong guy--or right guy.
Because I may have changed my mind about that friend zone status. I may be up to climbing over some barbed wire. For that kiss...

Your Kiss Is On My List is a slow burn with equal measures angst and fun while our couple sorts through the hurt and joy of figuring out that long ago kiss was a promise and meant to be. This steamy college sports romance is a stand-alone story in the world of St. Paul University. The St. Paul U Players is a spinoff series of the Big Men on Campus series. (Warning: Language and sex for a mature audience.)

Good, but I didn't vibe with it.

There were quite a few errors (though this is an advanced ARC so maybe they've been fixed by now) and moments when I wasn't sure who was talking/moving.

It started off well and then halfway through I was losing interest, the characters were both a little boring, and it was filled with a mix of cheesy and ridiculous. Also, the female lead has some things with her dad that were never fully fixed, questions that were never answered, and she somehow had "blood money" that was never explained. (Also, her dad calls her "babydoll" and she calls Trey "baby" while he calls her "doll". ???? And when he asks if she has daddy issues and she says "no" he goes "good enough for me.")

I liked it when both characters were still hiding their true feelings. Once they let loose a bit it was cringe-y and I didn't care for any of their dialogue.

thank you HiddenGems for the free ARC

Your Kiss is on My List" is number 2 in the St. Paul U Players series by Stephanie Queen behind "I Want to Know What Love Is." I read the first in the series as well. This novel is a slow-burn, fake girlfriend to much more romance novel based in the Big Man on Campus house on the St. Paul University Campus (SPU) located in New England. It begins after the Big Men on Campus Series, also a much checkout by this author.

The story centers around Dani and Trey. Dani is Trey's little sister's best friend and the object of Trey's absolute obsession. Trey has been in love with her as far back as he can remember, and Dani has been in love with Trey since she laid eyes on him. But, after a stolen kiss between the two in seventh grade, Trey made himself scarce for three years.

Now she's here at SPU at the Big Man on Campus (BMOC) House, and avoidance is no longer an option. With his ex-girlfriend Summer sniffing around, Dani's more than willing to fake the roll to keep her away. However, the line between posing as his girlfriend and being in a relationship blurs, sending them closing and closer to realizing their true feelings for one another.

I love Stephanie Queen. She leans towards sports romances in most of her books and writes them exceptionally well. Queen built the slow burn in this novel well, unraveling each character's insecurities about the relationship, including the minor age difference. She discusses the forbidden kiss and how it creates this uncomfortable barrier that puts distance between them. I felt the author portrayed Dani as a much more mature individual than Trey, which I loved. Some authors tend to lean toward winy immature personalities when describing the female characters. Dani knew what she wanted in her life and wasn't afraid of expressing it, building it, and achieving it.

Secondly, Queen has this elaborate ability to bring in characters from her other series and show the passage of time between them. For example, she references Majik, one of the main characters in her Big Man on Campus Series. We see how Majik has grown.

I would recommend this book to anyone that loves sports romances and isn't afraid to read something risky. This book epitomizes how refusing to acknowledge your feelings for someone could make one miss out on something great. "Your Kiss is on My List" is not a clean wholesome romance novel, so don't start the book expecting it to be expletive-free. The characters are hot, steamy, and so angsty together.

Childhood friends, neighbors and pseudo-siblings is the history Dani and Trey share. A misunderstanding and overreaction to a first kiss changed their relationship until Dani shows up at SPU as a mid-year transfer.

These two characters hav the typical misunderstandings and drama-filled reactions to nearly every interaction — the typical young adult angst. Below the drama is some real emotional trauma from an incident Trey was involved with and one Dani stood by his side and helped him get back to hockey.

Their relationship starts off as fake to discourage the attentions of others interested in each of them. The pretend boyfriend/girlfriend relationship gets exaggerated when a past girlfriend doesn’t stop digging and questioning how they went from friends to almost engaged. The story is engaging and entertaining, and has a lot of on-again/off-again moments and where they ignore each other. The characters are fun and interesting, as are the secondary characters.

I wish some storyline threads would have been closed, but not so much it detracts from the HEA. Where Dani’s secret money came from is initially teased as a possible storyline element until it’s just dropped. Why Dani left NYU mid-year of her freshman year is first mentioned as something to do about ‘he who shall remain nameless’. It’s never mentioned again, but later she indicates she transferred to be near Trey who hadn’t spoken to her in 3 years.

I am intrigued about Nate’s story which is the next book in the series. I plan to check it out when it releases.

I received a free ARC from the author and Hidden Gems, and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.

Dani transfers to St. Paul U to be close to Trey. She's loved him forever but he hasn't talked to her in 3 years. She's willing to put everything on the line to find out if there can ever be anything more than friendship between them. Trey is thrown for a loop when Dani transfers to his school. She's his younger sister's best friend and the woman he has loved for years. He hasn't spoken to her in years after thinking he crossed a line with her. Will they be able to figure out that they belong together?

I like Dani. She's daring and smart. The fact that she was willing to put everything on the line to figure out if she and Trey belong together was pretty amazing. She has a career goal but also a relationship goal. She has family issues that cause her to have doubts but she works through them. Trey is on the cusp of finishing college and moving on to whatever is next. He wants to be with Dani but he doesn't think it's possible. I didn't like him as much as Dani but he was still a good character. There are plenty of side characters, some of which are characters from prior stories. Yes, Dooley is back and so is Magic (but only just a little bit).

What I didn't like was the repetition of the "I want to but I can't" part of the story. It got a little ho-hum at one point. . I understand the author was trying to create tension and drama but I felt like it could have been done with a different device. I also felt like the “bad guy” was weak. She could have really caused all kinds of problems but she remained a minor annoyance.

This story takes place at the fictional college, St. Paul U. I will definitely read more in this series because I am interested in what happens with the guys that are still in the Big Man On Campus house.

It was good. It is a friends-to-lovers romance as well as a college hockey romance. It is written well. I liked the characters. It was also nice to go back to Saint Paul's University.

Dani was the girl next door who was also best friends with Trey's little sister. Trey tried to think of Dani as his little sister but when he was a junior in high school, he started to notice as a woman. One evening while watching the Brady Bunch with his sister and Dani, Trey and Dani end up talking about feelings for each other and Trey kisses Dani for the first time. Dani said something that made Trey think she regretted the kiss. Trey spends the next 3 years avoiding Dani as much as possible. Now Trey and Dani are attending Saint Paul's University and live across the street from each other. Dani decides to help Trey with unwanted female attention by pretending to be his fake girlfriend. This acting causes old feelings to surface.

She warned us: "Be forewarned, this story is a long slow burn"
Long back and forth slow burn in which they both are mad at themselves for having those feelings. Trey feels guilty for having feelings for his little sister's bestie. Dani feels dumb for letting herself wait for her bestie's big bro who doesn't have those same feelings. It was like a tease that could've been cleared up faster if either had any balls to say a few words about their feelings. Mostly it was Trey that shut things down when they almost happened. Frustrating.
If was hard to like Dani at first becauae she was just so peppy or perky - like a hyper chihuahua. She's actually a really nice girl but she was just too excitable at first.
Overall it was a shade between 'just okay' and 'liked it.' 3.5 stars

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. This is the 2nd book in the St. Paul U Players series and each book can be read as a standalone.
Trey and his sister Lou live next door to Dani. They are all best friends. Even though Trey is several years older than them. When he starts having more than friends feelings for Dani he knows she js too young yet. So he does eveything he can to stay away from her. Its been years since he's seen her. And now theres no way to ignore her since she is at his college and living in the sorority house across the street.
You could feel the chemistry between these two from the very beginning and it was burning hot. Another great read and series from this amaxing author.

Trey is a big man on campus - a big hockey star, headed for the NHL. Dani has known him, looked up to him, and had a crush on him for years. She's the girl next door and his sister's best friend. When she shows up on campus, partly to pursue her degree, but mostly to be close to him again, Trey is shocked and wary.

They are both a bit shy with each other, unsure of what the other wants, vulnerable, and they share a horrible story that he's been covering up since his youth.

I love the characters.

I recommend this book for mature audiences. There are explicit sex scenes and language that may not be suitable for younger audiences.

I’ve read a few books from this author now and I have enjoyed every single one of them. The story flows so well and each character plays a part in making it the story it ends up being.
Trey & Dani’s romance is based on more than one trope that I love to read. But what drew me to the book firstly was because of the hockey aspect. Unfortunately, and the reason I ended up only giving this book 4 stars as there was little to no on ice action. That is a must for me and it isn’t something I could possibly know until I actually get into the heart of the book. But aside from that this book is truly a wonderful story to read. What a cute childhood friends to fake lovers to real lovers story! I’m leaving A review after receiving this as an ARC. I did enjoy this story line a lot. Hockey college romance, girl next door, little sisters best friend. It’s got it all! While there is only about a 3 year age difference between the two, Trey makes it out to be a much bigger deal than it should be. At least in my opinion. There were some subplots that I think could have been explored further or maybe will be in a sequel? This is definitely slow burn with tension. The ending did feel a bit rushed but everything wrapped up quite nicely. You’ll enjoy this fun read!

She’s a freshman, the girl next door, his baby sister’s best friend... Trey Eagleton hockey team captain of the SPU Wildbeasts has a litany of reasons he reminds himself of every time he thinks of Danielle Innocent and their first kiss when she was 14 and he was 17! He’s convinced they can only ever be friends; pseudo big brother to little sister.
But then she transfers from NYU to St Paul’s University and all bets are off!
A wonderful story of young love and, maybe, second chances!

Dani is the BFF of Trey's little sister, so there's an age difference and also plenty of history. After they share their first kiss, he ghosted her for 3 years. Now he's a senior and she's a freshman that transfers to his school. They agree to be just friends until she thinks she's doing him a favor by claiming to be his girlfriend to keep the other girls away from him so he can concentrate on hockey. But are they just friends? The lines get pretty blurred! I received an ARC an am voluntarily leaving my review.

I am a hockey girl, born and bred. But you don't need to enjoy hockey to love this book. Dani and Trey have been friends forever, both wanting more but afraid to ruin what they already have. Secrets from the past complicate the situation even more.

Well-developed characters and dialogue with interesting sub-plots. I really enjoyed the supporting characters and look forward to learning more about them in subsequent books. The pacing throughout was great but I felt the ending was a little rushed.

This was a cute friends-to-fake lovers- to- real lovers story!

Dani's schtick about not cussing felt out of place with some of the other things she said, and made her feel like she was super immature.
I love love love the relationship that Trey and Nate have! That they never shied away from the tough conversations.
I wish more was fleshed out with the story line of Dani's dad- so many questions still!

This book had a good premise but I would give it a 3.75. Parts of the story were a little rough around the edges - I don't mean editing but in storytelling. There was definite chemistry between Dani and Trey that others could see, including Dani's BFF - Trey's sister. I just wish there had been more around resolving issues with Dani's parents and the money she had. I felt that was incomplete. This is a voluntary review of an advance reader copy.

Good read

Slow burn, friends to more or was it always more? Trey is Dani's best friend's big brother maybe even a protective older brother to her, but he's not her relation. Trey has covered his feelings for Dani up because she was too young, she's still young but that gap is closing the more time they spend together. Teasing, tension, ambition, friend zone and college life makes this an engaging read.

Such a sweet and emotional story! I like the connection that Dani and Trey have and that it has been so strong since they were little, even in the ghosted years. Dani seems both mature and a little juvenile at times, but she's 19 and "inexperienced" in many ways: so that is to be expected. Nate seems like such a good friend to have, I like how he not only supports Trey, but calls him on his bs like a real friend should! I can't wait to read Nate's story after this!

A kiss when Dani & Trey (three year age difference) were in their teens never leaves their minds, no matter how hard they try. Life takes them right back into each other’s lives; her as a freshman & him a senior in college. A great sports romance with some bumps in l what we call life. Stephanie does it again…..a great read!

Cute story, but did get a little boring at times. I am one for more drama and angst and this was pretty low on both of those aspects. With that being said, I did enjoy the book and would recommend it be read!

I am on board with this series! Most characters return from book 1 and then there’s Dooley. Lol, I can’t even explain him but he is awesome, I love his role in this story. This was definitely a slow burn but I think it was worth the agony because so many times you want to shake both Dani & Trey.
