Being retired was supposed to be easy. No drama, no family, no problems. Considering what he was, Ernie should have known better.
All Ernie wants is one last drink before he faces his final battle, but his friends have other ideas, except their help is anything but helpful.
Ragnarok's hourglass is broken, Ernie's sword is getting a little close for comfort, and Heimdall won’t stop blowing the damned horn. But who cares as long as Ernie shows up for the final battle?
Except Ernie's done playing nice, and he's not taking another step until he gets the sand out of his shoes. But what happens when he's not the only one reluctant to face the end?
Can Ernie survive long enough to ride into battle one last time? Or could there be another choice?

While cats stalk phoenixes across the breakfast table and werewolves dig up the garden to torment her chihuahua, stories are already forming—layered with myth, emotion, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting.
Jemma Weir is a Scottish indie author of paranormal romance and urban fantasy with bite: magic is messy, love is fierce, and family means everything. Her characters are flawed, loyal, and unforgettable—shaped by legend and stitched with sass and suspense while the Scottish wind howls outside her writing room.
Her series include Highland Rift Pack, where protective shifters, tangled loyalties, and emotional stakes collide, and Death and Visions, a gritty urban fantasy detective saga set in Edinburgh, where solving murders means confronting psychic visions, buried trauma, and ghosts that won’t let go. Her stories explore loyalty, longing, and the kind of love that claws its way through darkness. Expect Scottish mist, fractured memories, and truths that refuse to stay buried.
Fantasy was her first love. Now she writes the kind of stories she always wanted to read—gritty, heartfelt, and just a little unhinged.
Really charming collection about a guy named "Ernie" who just wants to enjoy retirement. Too bad he's a god with no talent at staying undercover, leading to many magical shenanigans!
I wasn’t sure on this one to start, I have never liked the vindictive or nosy person who always wants people to follow her or disrupt what others have. Vera is that however it provides a very thoughtful idea within this. Forgotten, abandoned, hidden or lost. Do we forget our elderly, do people act up because they have no other way or know no other way to get people to see them. A thought provoking episode in the life of Ernie.
A genie and a wish well kinda, the genie wants a day off Ernie is stuck in his place and ends up causing all sorts of chaos in one man’s life. The thing is this wasn’t supposed to happen. I actually enjoyed this one as the interplay of wishes as well as the chaos of trying to help worked itself into something else. Also yay hidden jokes.
It was refreshing to see some of the real reasons some family members visit but at the same time there are consequences to some magic and it was nice to see. I like that there was a change in culture but that Ernie himself didn’t realise how much damage he had done. Also yep agree with Ernie the skirts are too short.
Sloth is my biggest trouble, getting the up and go attitude just never has been me. However I understand feeling unneeded or just losing the will to do something. It was a really nice look at others innate effects on other people. I like that the dropping off is natural for all.
