JOHNSTONE COUNTRY. DANGEROUS CURVES AHEAD. Slash and Pecos match wits with the wiliest opponent they’ve ever had—a wickedly smart woman who can’t be caught—in their wildest western adventure yet. . . . It sounds like an easy track down the lady friend of notorious outlaw Duke Winter and bring her in for questioning. There’s just one Slash and Pecos have never met a woman like Miss Fannie Diamond, a glamorous showgirl who’s prettier than a French poodle, slicker than a Dodge City gambler, and more slippery than a Mojave rattlesnake. She knows that Slash and Pecos are coming for her and has no intention of being caught—not without one of hell of a fight. . . . By the time the duo arrive at the Rocky Mountain mining camp where Miss Diamond is performing, the devilishly clever gal has already arranged a welcome wagon for some hired thugs who knock Slash and Pecos silly. Still, the show must go on—so the pair decide to snatch Miss Diamond off the stage in the middle of a performance. It doesn’t take long for Slash and Pecos to learn that there’s no business like show business—and no showgirl like Miss Fannie Diamond. Sometimes, the female of the species is deadlier than the male. . . . Live Free. Read Hard.

One of the most fun and action filled series going on now out of the Johnstone camp. Tons of over the top western adventure, humor and the characters feel like old friends.
Sons of Thunder by William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone is another Slash and Pecos story and it's not the best in the series even though there are parts that are really funny. I do like a good western but this one is not really up there, sadly. I actually think that the author spreads himself to thin with all the series going on but most of them are really entertaining. I will continue reading the works of Johnstone and give thanks to Pinnacle, Kensington and Netgalley for providing me with hours of reading.
Two fifty year old former thieves who have been pardoned but now have to take assignments from a US Marshal to keep out of jail. In this book, they are assigned to kidnap a young actress in a mining community whose boyfriend is a notorious outlaw. They do it and she is more than they expected. Meanwhile a local is trying to buy a business owned by a wife of one of the former outlaws. Funny at times and full of action, the book is a fun read.
Not up to typical Johnstone story telling. The plot was basically good but at times (frequently) the telling was downright childish. I intend to read another Slash and Pecos story but if it's as juvinal as this it will be the last.
This was an excellent read. It was so much fun that I had to read it all in one sitting. I loved all the action in this book. It had a brilliant medium to fast pace that definitely kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. I loved how this book also had a strong female protagonist in miss diamond who was quite happy to join in the fights and definitely kept slah and pecos on there toes. The characters were all well developed and made for an exciting story. There was great action throughout this book which I just love. This made the book a real page turner. The authors did an excellent job at creating a wonderful sense of atmosphere in this story. I definitely recommend this book to all those who love westerns with a faster pace. I just love slash and pecos characters they are fun and slight crazy . I am definitely looking forward to read more stories following these 2 characters. So much praise goes out to the authors and publishers for creating this brilliant fast paced story that I thoroughly enjoyed. I will definitely be reading more great books from this pair of authors.
There is no such thing as a bad Johnstone western. Each series is built around main characters whose belief in the law and family is absolute, even if they've had to be reformed to get there. From Preacher, the original mountain man to the Jensen family to Perly Gates, to.....well, you get the point. Many times, characters from one series will show up in another as supporting hands. The communities are true to the era, clothing, guns, food and troubles are all what you'd find if you looked them up in the history books. No two stories are the same, each character or set of characters is unique and so are their stories. The writing is skillful, readers are pulled into the story and you will laugh and cry right along with the characters. I made the mistake of picking up a Johnstone western my uncle was reading. Ive been hooked ever since. Now I share them with my reading family and will continue as long as new Johnstones are released.
One of Mr. Johnstone’s better tales. It gets high marks for the excellent scene settings and multiple plots. I assume J.A. Johnstone had whole lot to do with this. I throughly enjoyed all the characters; especially the two main ones (who seemed to be lucky old dogs).
A totally different kind of story with more plots and counter plots to make you dizzy. Slash and Pecos find themselves in more unique situations than anyone could imagine. The story moves quickly and definitely keeps you wondering what is happening next. Love the characters the action and the camaraderie and it is definitely a fast read. It's full of action-packed rides.
There is just nothing like a good Western to relax your tense muscles and settle your anxiety. While totally entertaining you. Make sure to read this one! And the rest of the series!!!
The author(s) sure made Pecos and Slash a couple of idiots in this story. I was tired of it by 55% through. Tired of their bromance also. I stayed with it because the story with Jay, Myra, the Deputy and the mad rancher was interesting enough.

These guys, Slash and Pecos, are quite something! They get into more jams and manage to survive each one of them. They jump off trains and swear they won’t do that again until the next time and start all over promising not to do that again. As old-time train robbers who have traded hanging for working for the law, they make me laugh. Finally, Slash has found his forever love and married; then, he is off chasing bad guys and wondering if he will ever get back to Jay. They are only about 50 or so but getting old in the days of fighting the opening of the west to good guys and bad, they feel older. Good westerns are hard to find and as a fan of this author, I can recommend this series as great reading.
A roaring good time of two adventures in one. This entry in the Pecos and Slash series has the two off to find a dance hall actress as the ladies at home find themselves ensconced in their own battle.
The part featuring the main characters begins in a quiet way and soon unravels into one chaotic scene after another. The rhythm of each set is well written. To a point of the repeated jumbles coming as frustrating to the reader as the main characters. This helps the book. The resolution, I found, was obvious, but may not be to others.
The second story was far more intense and very well done. That resolution was unclear as the story unfolded as far more serious with an air of mystery that worked well.
The dialogue is fine, though, as i usually remark, i wish speaking words were more representative of the time and less molded to satisfy today's readers. Settings are far better than some Johnstone books. A particularly difficult feat of earth moving is well orchestrated.
This recent Johnstone Clan entry continues to present far more women involved and being an integral part of stories than the decades of Johnstone Clan books before.

Bottom line: I recommend this book. 7 out of ten points.
This is my first Slash and Pecos book, and I loved it! These two are good together, as they try to capture Miss Fannie to take her in for questioning. Ah, but it isn't so easy, and the stuff these two go through is amazing. And the story also involves Jay. who is one tough cookie! I am hooked on reading the Johnstone books, and I have a lot of catching up to do. In the meantime, if you're looking for a good western, this one is a great one to add to your reading list!
