I would almost call Unthinkable a political and poetic masterpiece, and for many, I am sure it is. But I personally get bogged down in all the constitutional scholarship because those are waters in which I do not swim. Nevertheless, I did learn a bit more about the Constitution. In Unthinkable, U.S. Congressman Jamie Raskin confronts the intersection of his brilliant young son's suicide and the siege of the Capitol. The intensity of Raskin's love for his son is heart-shattering. This soaring love renders the violent hatred of January 6 absolutely shocking. It is unthinkable that so much love and hate can exist in the same world. Raskin shines a blazing light on love and compassion and makes you believe you will walk away from his book a better person.
