I adored the concept of this book, it was a fast paced adventure with a bit of spice. The plot was a lot of fun and I do wish this book had been longer to have explored the romance more
River and Castor are wonderful together, I loved all the shifting. Castor spends a lot of time in his beaver form, his support of River and trying to help him escape.
All of the hurt/comfort feels and while pretty insta love due to fated mates, short story it was fitting. I enjoyed the added element of magic, the variety of shifters and spirits. Such an interesting setup.
The swimming, den, cuddles and soft intimate moments. I look forward to reading more of this series, having glimpsed the characters here. River & Castor get their happy ending 💛

I really enjoyed this book and thought it was another good addition to the Pack of Heirs Series by Hawke Oakley. Sometimes you just need a low angst, fluff, insta-love story which this is. I loved the connection between River and Castor. Man, River was a total sweetheart and Castor was perfect for him. River hated being a Mer as his last boyfriend pretended to be his fated mate since he was obsessed with River’s tail and after he’d had his full he dumped him. What a total a*sehole. I loved how protective Castor was of River and didn’t want to leave him with the poachers no matter how much River tried to make him go. I liked that the their was an age difference between Castor and River, and that River enjoyed when his omega used his command voice. It’s what River needed to calm down, by receiving a command from Castor, that he’d happily obey.
I wonder why Animus is being so helpful with a few of the fated mates pairs, when they’ve been in danger. Is he just doing it because he’s nice or does he have something planned with the extra power boost that he’s received from their connection as fated mates and their bonding for the first time. Why is he only interested in talking to the omega in the fated mate pairs and doesn’t like alphas. Maybe he’s an omega himself. I’m guessing we’ll eventually find out as the series continues. I loved how loving and supportive River’s family is and welcomes Castor into their family with open arms. I wonder what River and Castor’s daughter spirit animal is as we didn’t get to find out since she was human when River handed her too Castor after she was born.I’m looking forward to reading more books as the rest of River’s “cousins” find their fated mates. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.

Objectified
As always Hawke Oakley's writing really shows the turmoil her characters endure as they mature and find their fated mates. An old friend or as some refer to him a "malicious nemesis" who seems to like helping Omega's comes to the assistance of River one of the second generation members of the Pack. He is a gorgeous redhead Merman the twin of the Harpy, Cloud. Also the grandson of the water spirit Nautilus.
This young man has spent several months wallowing in misery. Pushing away everyone including his twin. He's so distraught it makes him careless with his safety from fallen trees to poachers and not even recognizing his fated mate. A nice change in this book was the presence of a single older Omega who happens to be a Beaver shifter. It was very nice to encounter such an unusual shifter. I enjoyed this book as much as others in the original series as well as this spinoff series.

just as they find each other as mates, the world's two most incompetent shifters get caught by the world's two most incompetent poachers.
Seriously. There were probably 7 times I counted when they could have done something to escape, starting with when the beaver finds him.
The first half of the book is pretty boring, and I grew frustrated with how dumb the main characters were.
There are two major sex scenes, one at about the 70% mark, and one near the end. The m-preg thing is not a major part of the story. It's not really my thing, so if it's not yours either, when you get to the last chapter just skip to the end. That's really the only time it's pretty blatant.
I do like to see unusual shifters like the merman and the beaver, so that part was cool. So overall despite the dumb plot, i still give it 4 stars.

Size does not matter. River is an alpha mer, suffering from an identity crisis. He thinks he may be the only mer in the world, he is a little jealous of his cousins finding their mates. He is disgruntled with his twin, Cloud and grumpy in general. He spends most of his time in the water. Castor, is a lovable, older beaver omega. He spends his time building his dam, so it will be ready for his mate. They meet accidentally and get a hint of scent, that takes a while to understand. Castor, immediately scents his mate. He sees River get kidnapped and swims to the rescue. Is Castor, able to keep up? Can he save River? Can River save himself? Does River recognize Castor as his mate? They go on an adventure that has really uncertain outcome for River. Nice story. Castor is an absolute delight. This story seems less connected than the others. I really liked Castor, he's amazing. Nicely done!

Fated mates and poachers and spirits...oh my!
Welcome back to the world of the Pack of Heirs. Although some of the Pack are here, this story is mostly a two man show. The characters come alive. Everything is vivid, vibrant. I could easily visualize this world. River in all his mer beauty; having the worst day of his life. Castor's beaver longing for his true mate; needing a push on the right direction. When these two collide, sparks do fly. Throw in real peril from dumb, greedy, but dangerous poachers, and you have one great tale. Ooh, and two spirits make an appearance. You are simply gonna love this book! I can't wait for the next one. Please read the previous books in order. You will be glad you did.

I loved Caster and River plus River's family as always love them. I just wasn't into the rest of the story. I tried so hard to enjoy it, but I just couldn't.
I wanted more time outside of them being kidnapped. I didn't feel it needed to drag on that long. It was most of the book. Only like 3 or 4 chapters wasn't them being held hostage.
River got kidnapped because he's merman and Caster who's a beaver and almost dropped a tree on River earlier went to save him with help from Spirit Ambuis.
Also we aren't even told about how special their daughter is because says she looks like a regular baby, but want stay like that. So that was kind of sad for me. I always look forward to the baby's special abilities at the end.

Sometimes I forget that there are humans in this world's book, but this time they made an unpleasant appearance.
Poor River has suffered a lot, but Castor was there for him.
This is the first book in this series with such an age gap, but they were really quite fitting. River reminded me a lot of his alpha father Nishiki, hahaha, the drama king.
And Castor was such a sweet, strong and gentle omega, there to save his alpha.
Animus seems to be making plans, I wonder what will come next and when we will know more about the spirits' pasts.

I love this series! Animus is my favorite character and I can’t wait to see what he does next. This book was an excellent addition, and I enjoyed every second of it. Only issue was I kept wondering about how the characters were surviving without food for so long - it got explained toward the end a little bit but was still distracting until then.

This was probably the weakest book of the season for me. The ending seemed a little rushed and sudden. I loved Castor and his Daddy vibes. I just wish he was the alpha. Maybe that would have sold this book to me.

This one was so intense and kept me on the edge of my seat. A kidnapped merman, his fated mate, a beaver who tries to rescue his one true love. This one has all the stuff that makes it so beautiful. Lots of heart and a sexy HEA

Good read
I did like this story don't get me wrong but it was not my favourite out of the series. I thought the ending jumped and finished abruptly.

I really enjoyed this fourth installment of the Pack of Heirs series. River and Castle were solo not your typical Alpha and Omega. I loved it!

River and Castor’s unlikely romance charmed me from the start. River’s prickly exterior and Castor’s nurturing warmth made them a perfect contrast. Castor’s steadfastness and patience helped River lower his walls, and their May/December dynamic added a layer of sweetness and growth. I loved how Castor’s dream of building a family was realized in such an unexpected way, and River’s journey toward trust and love felt earned. Their adventure escaping poachers kept the pace brisk, but it was the tender emotional moments that truly made this one shine.

OK, sorry - I know that's probably not what is supposed to be my biggest takeaway from this book. Castor was a very sweet character, and I really did enjoy him. I apparently read the first book in the series but then I jumped to this one, so I don't know if I'd recommend that if you enjoy the books from this author.
