About the author

Ryo Asai (朝井リョウ ) began creating picture books at the age of six and writing stories while still in grade school; soon he was submitting manuscripts to new-writer contests as he dreamed of publishing a book of his own. He made his literary debut as a student at Waseda University, when his novel Kirishima, bukatsu yamerutte yo (Kirishima Says He's Quitting the Team) took the 2009 Shosetsu Subaru New Writers' Award. He has kept up a constant stream of publications since his debut. When his novel Nanimono (Somebody) was awarded the Naoki Prize for the second half of 2012, he was only 23, making him the youngest male author to have ever won the award. His other works include Chia danshi!! (Guy Cheerleaders!!), Mo ichido umareru (To Be Born Over), and Shojo wa sotsugyo shinai (Girls Don't Graduate).

故事從六個角色，描述他們或有大半重疊或只是耳聞彼此的生活。唯一的交集就是退出排球社的隊長桐島。

說故事的有，因為桐島退社而遞補成正式隊員的小泉封助；暗戀好友男朋友的澤島亞矢；屬於班上黯淡「下層」男，卻得了電影比賽獎項的前田涼也；渴望母愛到即使被誤認為死去姐姐也沒關係的宮部實果；內心煩躁不安的十七歲少年菊池宏樹(「校長說，你們才十七歲，今後想要做什麼都可以，也擁有希望、夢想和一切。事實上他錯了。既然我們的掌心將來可能握住任何東西，也就是說現在是空的。」p.114)；為霸凌氛圍下而煩心的小霞。

到了這年紀，對所謂的青春小說，最有風度的反應只是笑笑說，啊！聽說不錯。言下之意就是，ㄟ，別鬧啦！都幾歲了，那種熱血情節，沒興趣的啦！……。不過，這次不同，書中描述的那種「回過頭來才明白的當初的那些眉眉角角」，馬上一巴掌推得我走回十七歲，心情「咻的」好像翻看那時字跡密密麻麻，通篇洋洋灑灑不知所云的日記本。

從十七歲白畫布的人生之後，不知不覺也渾沌了好長一陣子。並不是現在終於清明，解決了當年的焦躁，其實只是當作不存在般地漸漸不想不想。

「我最害怕的，或許是發現自己認真做了之後，卻什麼也辦不到。」(p.163)

所以，認真做了嗎？辦到了嗎？

忘了一開始要的是什麼了……

Aika kiinnostava kuvaus koululaisten arjesta. Kirishimaa sivutaan, mutta kaikkien päähenkilöiden elämä kiertyy lopulta lähinnä heitä itseään kiinnostavien asioiden ympärille ja Kirishimaa koskeva ehkä dramaattinenkin tapahtumaketju jää häilymään kulisseihin. Kertojan äänet ovat keskenään hyvin erilaisia, mutta kukin tuntuu silti uskottavalta.

Helppolukuinen ja taitavasti kirjoitettu, mutta silti tuntui, että jotain jäi puuttumaan.

i feel like i’ve read this book already but maybe not. but oh man. i cried esp the second last chapter i relate to him so much 😭😭😭

初めの文が「え？ガチで？」なので、頭からっぽそうな本だな、なんて思ったのだけれど、違う。もっと「高校生」という微妙の年代の状態を凄く上手に書いていると思う。現在大学生らしいので、良くこんな感じに「上」と「下」の危うい立場を表現できたと思う。個人的には「沙奈」と誰か帰宅部の話も読んでみたかった。
