I released the Dark Wolf God. Now he’s using me. Last week, I defeated a monster hellbent on killing us all. I thought I was stopping a prophecy, but it turns out, the dark omens were about me all along.
Now I’m destined to steal the souls of the pack—my pack—and help the Dark God bring destruction down on the world. Jaxson Laurent, my fated mate, is determined to help me fight back, but what if he has to choose between me and his wolves?
The Dark God is beginning to take control of me, and unless I can heal the wound in my soul, I won’t be able to resist his call. Worse, if I can’t heal the centuries-long blood feud between my family and the pack, our city won’t be able to stand against his wrath.
Unfortunately, my only choice may be to betray them all and do the one thing Jaxson may never forgive me for. It seems my destiny is to destroy everything I love.
The fates have a wicked sense of humor.
Good thing I’ve never been one who follows the rules.
Veronica Douglas is a duo of professional archaeologists that love writing and digging together. After spending an inordinate amount of time doing painstaking research for academia, they suddenly discovered a passion for letting their imaginations go wild! A cocktail of magic, romance, and ancient mystery (shaken, not stirred), their books are inspired, in part, by their time in Chicago and their archaeological adventures from around the globe.
Me and Savy hit a rough patch in book 3, fortunately we repaired our relationship in book 4!
Very exciting ending to the series! Finally Savy and Jaxson make a full commitment. I stand by my opinion that this took to long...FYI.
The story had me hooked from the start. Twists, turns, shockers.....it is all there my friends. Casey, Sam, Laurel.....secondary characters were amazing.
If you have not read this series.....what are you waiting for ??!!
“The fates are funny, aren’t they ? I wonder what they’ll have in store for our next adventure?”
This series has been so special for me. I picked up the first book on a whim simply because the synopsis seemed interesting and amusing to me. I fell so hard for this story and these characters.
As a whole, there was something about this final book that felt a little anticlimactic. I think that it mostly stems from the final boss fight at the end of the book. I suppose that I was just expecting more conflict or something towards the end. The characters by no means had an easy way of things but it felt like their win was not as hard-won as it should have been. It felt like there should have been more sacrifice or conflict than there was in the end. With that said, I really did enjoy the epilogue and how things came to a close for these characters.
Since the first book in this series, I have been a fan of this writing duo's no-nonsense and totally relatable writing style. They don't ever seem to mince words or add unnecessary content, which I admire. The words really jump off the page and make me feel so at home. I love their writing voice as well. I love how they weave the plot of their stories. There is plenty of foreshadowing, action, and unique content. I love their ideas and how they implement them. There are amazing plot twists that drive the story. The world-building is well written. Thoroughly vivid details keep the reader engaged in the story.
These characters really came to mean so much to me over the course of the series. It was easy to latch on to them in the first book but the excellent character development and compelling characterizations kept me coming back for more. I love how involved the secondary characters were in the series. They all played important roles in the story and they all had their own distinct personalities and purposes.
Savy and Jaxson finally come to terms with their mate bond in this book. Their journey isn't one that has ever been easy but it is hard won and worth it. I have always loved the genuine attraction and chemistry that they share in the series. I love how Jaxson admires Savy's strength and always ever wants to add to her strength and never hold her back.
Overall, this was a satisfying conclusion to Savy and Jaxson's story and I can't wait for more stories in this world! The next book has been announced to be Sam's story and I love the clues that have been dropped in this book to set that up. If wolf shifters are one of your favorite subgenres then I would definitely pick this series up and dive into an exciting world with delightful characters. You won't be sorry you did.
This review is based on the four books. I hate that it took 4 books to get to the HEA. Then of course it is like the last chapter that you get to it at the end of the battle.
Savy had a whirlwind of a month. I mean four books worth of a one month period.
Her parents died when she was younger leaving her in the care of her Godmother. She didn't no anything of magic or that she had any.
When werewolves start coming for her she goes to find family she's never met.
In comes Jaxson who she thinks is apart of some government agency.
He tries to keep her away from her family, not wanting them to turn her against them and ruin their investigation into the rouge wolves pushing drugs.
Their families don't have a great history. It is filled with hurt, death, and betrayal. While Savy is a LaSalle, she wasn't there for that history or doesn't know anything about it.
She is being pulled in all directions both sides wanting her for their side.
While also struggling with trying to go after who is after her.
Each book has a new enemy that she must defeat. The plot was good with always have suspense and a battle they are going into.
I did have the problem of Savannah and her take on the mate bond. It came off wrong her response for as long as she had it. The attitude no one owns me, I'm my own person, fates can't tell me what to do. Then the next, always feeling the pull and relying on Jaxson for places to stay, money, clothes, her livelihood. Helping her w. safety. Then if someone looked at him, like at the party where she snarled at the woman after just telling him she wasn't his, then the jealously that flared from her.
It was like if you are choosing love, then choose it. And her attitude at times was over the top, just a little too much. Then not telling the Alpha, her mate, issues with her wolf disappearing when it happened as he could of helped her.
While it was a great story with the suspense and the battles and you were entertained, there were aspects about Savannah that bothered me with how her character came across, and that it took so long to get there. In one month all these things happened, it just felt like on and on, that I almost gave up, like are we not going to get there yet?
I enjoyed this one but it didn’t hook me as much as the first three. I’m not sure what it was, because there was plenty of plot. Maybe it had something to do with Savannah and Jaxon’s relationship? I can’t quite say. My overall feeling was that the series felt like it was being dragged out after the third book. But, all in all, a really fun series that I’ll definitely recommend for anyone in the mood for werewolf that’s not smut-centered.
Ultimately a good book and a good series, but I was let down by a few things…
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5 🌶️🌶️/5
Pros: -great plot -decent world building -ended nicely; HEA -sufficiently evil villain -closure for certain things -character growth
Cons: -underdeveloped magic system; no explanations -lots of telling, not much showing -secondary characters didn’t get real arcs -found family trope fell flat. We never got the sense she was really a part of the pack (we only ever met Iike 3 of them) -where did we end with all the magic people? Are sorcerers and wolves just good now or? -NOT ENOUGH ROMANCE 😭 I feel like the set up was there. (not that spicy either) -plot driven story; I wanted more from the characters -big moments seemed rushed.
Overall, a good shifter series, especially compared to others. I will not continue with other spin offs. I would recommend for the right reader in the right mood.
3.5✨ (overall for the series not this book - this book is a 3)
The first 2 books started off strong I was super drawn in and enjoyed them. The last 2 books took forever. It was conflict after conflict, i was so sick of the conflict like Dan the characters have a personality other than everyone wanting to kill them constantly please? The author also kept incorporating every possible supernatural thing she could come up with and I get it was magic side but damn it was too much to keep up with.
A fantastic conclusion to the series! It tied up pretty much all the lose ends, except the lead in for Wolf God in the next series. I just wish I'd read it slower so I could have enjoyed it more.
This series from book one through book four is such a great read. I was not disappointed with where it took me to where it ended. A great job by Veronica Douglas.
I changed my mind from skim reading this last book. I read enough reviews to get the jest, and I don't have the interest to read or see all the details for this. Too much action packed in every book, too little character growth, too little relationship building, and FMC still doesn't know much about her mom side of the family. Don't understand how the author can leave this piece of important information out. Much of the action centers around Wolfie, and we don't know the origin of her. This is definitely not your typical werewolf story.
SYNOPSIS (4 Book Series): The FC‘s parents died in a fire when she was 16 and she went to live with her godmother. One night she is attacked by, what she later discovers are, werewolves. This starts the FC on a track to find out who she actually is and who her parents were. The MC is the Alpha of a large pack which has a deep hatred of the FC‘s family who, amongst other things, killed the MC‘s sister. The story arcs over 4 books during which the FC is being hunted for her blood and by a madman intent on stealing part of her soul and tries to stop the Dark Wolf God from being raised - something which has been prophesied will occur as a result of the actions of a twin soul. She has to fight the prejudice of the wolfpack and work out who she can trust. As the story develops so does the relationship between the FC and the MC. Whilst none of the books end on a cliffhanger and are almost self contained stories they are still part of the main 4 book story arc. There are dramas and everything builds up to the final showdown in Book 4 with a HEA.
The books are well written with some good humorous bits especially in the conversations between the FC and her inner self. The FC is strong, intelligent and kick ass and the interplay between her and the MC is good with a strong push and pull. Initially she fights her attraction to him and there is a deep distrust on both sides that has to be overcome. She does not allow herself to be walked over which makes for a great change to the norm. The MC comes across as a strong, possessive and gorgeous Alpha who fights his connection to the FC and, whilst frustrated by her, respects her. There‘s the obligatory BFF that the FC makes and she develops a strong connection to her cousin. Generally there is a good backstory which is built up through the books for both the FC and the MC. The only criticism I have is that I felt there should have been more explanation as to how the sister died and how the Alpha‘s father betrayed the La Salle‘s. There seemed to be some gaps in the backstory there. I felt that something was being set up and the author forgot to close them out.
There‘s no epilogue which would have been good and I would have liked to have had a scene with the council wolves grovelling. I also felt that the about turn of the MC‘s father was a bit sudden and also dealt with too quickly.
On the heat level - there‘s great chemistry between the characters with a slow burn build up. The sex scenes are well written but not overly graphic and relatively short. Unlike a lot of books they are also used appropriately - by that I mean the author does not make every other chapter a sex scene to pad out the series!
Everything started with an attempted abduction that gives no choice to Savannah Caine than leave her little town and find answers to a new family in Magic-Side. She will discover secrets hidden by her parents, discover a new world and find out that fate can be a bitch sometimes. Who can she trust? The alpha of the local pack? Her new aunt? Dangers are on the way and she's going to need all the help she can get.
If you know me, you know I’m an urban fantasy/paranormal romance addict. These books are definitely entering my favorite PNR list alongside the Mercy Thompson series. This series made me go through many emotions. I almost shove the two first books, Wolf Marked and Untamed Fate, by the window so much I was angry against Savannah (She is not even a real person) or the pack. The story is full of surprises, but some are predictable (fate mate), but I like a mix of both.
If you love character development, you will be pleased since the authors wrote some fascinating character developments, especially Savannah. I love her character so much for it, but also she's loyal, a fighter and she has the best crazy idea alongside her cousin, Casey. That character made me laugh a lot. 🤣 He brings some light to the books. This novel also comes with a grumpy and possessive alpha and you're going to love Jackson. Who doesn’t love a grumpy possessive alpha? 🤷♀️ His chemistry with Savannah is 🔥 🔥 🔥. She totally turns his head upside down. 😆 It is hilarious to read.
Let us not forget the wonderful work they did in creating the world of Magic Side. While reading the four books, you learn a bit more about the world, and how each species lives together in the city. My favorite scene is in Dark Lies with the pack with their legend and the run.
*It may take some time to get invested, but keep reading.
You will find in this book: 🐺Paranormal/ magic world 🔥Steamy slow burn ⚔️Enemies-to-lovers 😠Grumpy possessive alpha ❤️🔥Fate mate 🏛️Mythology/Legend 🔎Mystery 💋Badass female characters
Still hating the stupid nicknames and now Jax is calling Savannah “darling.” Who does he think he is - one of the Gabor sisters?
page 77 - Neve is speaking: “The Moon has many temples, but this is the closest one I could find next to a portal, so it’ll hafta do.” She tore a page from a notepad and handed it to me (Savannah) “These are the coordinates.” page 78 - Neve handed Jaxson a folded sheet of paper. “These are the coordinates...”
So she hands out the coordinates twice in the same conversation?
Page 88 - Three more shapes bounded through the ruins on our right, straight for Myrto and the loremaster.
One shatters as it is on top of Savannah. Jaxson bashes one in the head until it crumbles.
The fate of the third lion isn’t addressed. Really? Seems kinda important to me.
I’m happy that Stephanie and Billy are reunited in death but I don’t recall him ever making an appearance when they were in the Deadlands, nor his name even being mentioned. Stephanie had (rightfully) accused Savannah of murdering him when she first made an appearance.
After Savannah cast the spell to bind the wolves so they couldn’t be used by the Dark God: page 308 - People rushed in all directions around us, helping the wounded as well as the hybrids, who’d all returned to human form and were wandering around in horror and confusion.
After Savannah reversed the spell: page 337 - The people who were bit by the possessed wolves have some sort of lycanthropy, and it’s not gone away.
So did the curse return when Savannah canceled the spell? The hybrids had returned to human form earlier.
There are other inconsistencies and misspellings but you get the idea.
Casey is by far my favorite. Jax is just too intense. I think Sam is my second favorite and I’m looking forward to reading her story in the future.
An absolutely awesome story that wraps up this series. I loved it and loved the ending. I know there will be another series coming in October and of course I already pre-ordered the book. So glad Sam is getting her own series.
Magic Side is a magical city that sits across one of the great lakes from Chicago. Werewolves, vampires, mages and who knows what else lives there. Into this world came Savannah who was running from Jaxson who claimed to be her fated mate. Through many adventures, they eventually come together as we all knew would happen because this is in part a romance. But that is only a small part of it. The couple, with help at times, fights off many bad guys who are trying to release the Dark Wolf God from his prison in the dreamlands. They partially succeeded in the first three books but in this one the Wolf God is coming and it's because of Savannah who was tricked into accidentally releasing him when she released the stone holding the soul of Victor Dragan into her aunts Orb of Destruction. This books picks up there and Savvy is determined to stop him at all costs. With Jaxson and Sam at her side they end traveling to Greece, the dreamlands, and the death lands in an effort to stop him from completing his plans to destroy all humankind.
The world building in these books is amazing and the way the authors write you can't help but develop feelings for the characters. I highly recommend this series.
This whole series kept me counting down the days on my calendar. Savy and Jaxon have stolen my heart. As well as Sam and Casey and watching the world turn with them as the grow. It’s been a magical ride. So incredibly creative, I loved that this book wrapped up all the mysteries and questions and while I thought I’d have a nervous break down, I was cheering the whole way through! I’m also beyond happy that even though the witches vs wolves may not completely happy, things are getting better. Nothing that causes hurt and trauma can be fixed in a few days, and I loved that the author(s) gave it a promise of things to come.
Savy and Jaxon also finally get their happy ending and I think it was for the better that they both had to work through it. Things were never easy for either of them, nor will it continue to be easy, but they’ve finally found something both of them can live with and can’t live without. They learned out each other and became each other’s support system. And Savy is learning to live with both of her heritages to be both a sorceress and a wolf. It’s beautiful. It’s heartbreaking. It’s magical. And it’s been an amazing ride!!! I definitely recommend starting from the beginning! And then hold on to your hair because it’s gunna blow your mind!
Good but very fast paced and lacked a lot of story. SOME SPOILERS
So I've read all of the books in this series and I can honestly say that it feels like one book split into 4. I do like the characters and I do highly recommend this series but my issues were how fast they went, lack of detail in some situations and then how it ended. Don’t get me wrong the ending was good, it’s just there was so much more missing. Also there is a lot more story that could have been continued. I wish the author would put more into the story because it feels like there's parts in the story that are missing. I really feel there could have been so much more with Jaxson and Savy. Wish Casey and Laurel had a bigger role than they did. Savys’s power growing was mentioned a lot but never explained. Jax said multiple times she was getting stronger but how and what it was never even looked at so we never got that information. Savy noticed a lot of changes in herself but it was never explored Savy never talked to her godmother again, never even checked on her. Savy,s uncle had a very small role in the book and should have had more. The battle with the Dark wolf was very lacking IMO. I was ready for a serious showdown and we didn’t get that. It was a good series tho and the characters are awesome!
She runs from Jax which doesn't last long because, you know, fated mates.
But now, for the first time, her and Jax are on the same page.
They find a way to try and stop him by calling the Moon to ask how she did it, and Travel to the Dreamlands to reinforce the bonds with Sam. 2 out 3 before they need to run for it.
She realises that DG is controlling her through the dead shard of her soul that's missing, so decides to bind Wolfie again so he can't. The good thing though, she does with Jax, not on her own.
DG takes over dreams and outs them to all wolves. Note - Jaxs dad is an asshole.
Next, Stephanie appears to Savy, telling her how to find her missing soul, but it means going into the Deadlands. Which they do. Big mean ghost alpha later, and Savy releases her binding, and reconciles with her soul.
By now, Dockside is a mess and DG is creating his own wolves by lycanthropy.
Savy realises the prophecy where she takes everyone's wolves is actually their salvation, because wolves make DG stronger, so she does a mass binding, but not before Casey gets bitten.
Long story short, back to Dreamlands they go and power up the final pylon.
Spolier - Casey rejects the cure and stays a wolf

If I could do half stars I’d put this at a solid 4.5. I kinda avoided finishing this one because book 3 left me a little upset with Savy and her journey. I thought she was finally accepting Jaxson and her life and then the last chapter left in a cliffhanger of cliffhangers. But man did book 4 start off with a hunt and Jaxson being patient and yet pushing Savy where she needs it. Book 4 is action packed so hold on to your werewolf. The Dark God is wicked and we’ll meet the goddess Moon. Savy will finally become hold and accept everything which we have been hoping for. Talk about antsy romance finally coming to a head. I was disappointed with the ending as I was hoping for more of an epilogue but majority of loose ends were tied up. Forewarning the ending leads off to a spin off with Sam and the Dark God. So it’s not over which is also a little disappointing too because I was hoping this would wrap up nicely and then the spin off would have its own story. But now I’ll have to give it a try because I have to know where the author is going.

Shadow Kissed Magic Side: Wolf Bound, Book 4 Audiobook 🎧 By: Veronica Douglas Narrated by: Samantha Cook, Jeffrey Kafer Length: 10 hrs and 27 mins E-book: (Read Using Kindle Unlimited) A 4.25 Star Immersive Read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨
This was an exciting, and ground breaking conclusion - for the pack and the LaSalles! The journey was expansive and treacherous, with many betrayals and holes to fall down, but the happily ever after that Savannah and Jaxson were fighting for was won in the end!😍🎉
A solid 4 star series for me. Where book 2 let it down, 3 and especially book 4 certainly made up for it. I'll definitely read more by these authors.👍

** I want to make it clear, I will stand with any Authors on their rights with Audible, if they go, I'll go too! Because only receiving a maximum of 40%, if they're exclusively with Audible, or 25% if they choose to sell on other sites too, of their overall sales, of the products that they've written and then paid $4-5000 to produce, is shameful!! I would have thought at those figures that Audible was paying to have the audiobooks made, paying the narrator's etcetera, but they are *only* a platform.😲 **
A thrilling conclusion to a genuinely fun story. My only gripe was I really wish we could have seen more of these characters. The whole series takes course over a month time, so we don't really get to see them outside of the stressful events that were happening back to back. I think the author is solid, and she has a really fun magic system, but I wanted to watch our main characters actually fall in love. Yes I recognize that by the end of this story, it was obvious they were, but I wanted to have heartwarming scenes like them celebrating first holidays together, going on dates, that sort of thing. Instead, it kinda felt like they were only together because they were trauma bonded and fated mates.

This is the final book in the intense story of Savanna and Jaxson and I was very pleased with the interesting and exciting plot development. Lots of action and suspense with strong characters and a mystery at every turn. The battle against the Dark Wolf God was Super! Several times I reread the scenes to make sure I didn't miss anything. Wolfie was on show! I did not expect his role to be so interesting and Dear Casey was quite a character that made me chuckle. I love how the author keeps me on edge with the exciting, intense and sometimes emotional descriptions trying to guess what she is going to happen. I voluntarily reviewed this copy that I received from BookFunnel and loved it.
I just couldn’t take anymore of Savannah. She is so mean to Jaxson and very self centered. I kept trying to get into this book but I just couldn’t. It’s not slow. There are definitely things happening but after putting it down and keeping it back up several times, I realized I don’t really care how it ends. Savannah in the first book I liked but she’s gotten worse with each installment. I am sure at some point she is going to do a 180 and be loving and all in with Jaxson which would really piss me off because you can’t erase 1000 pages of character development with 3 pages of conclusion.
Long awaited conclusions and a glimpse of a new start.
Savy has lost a piece of her soul and the Dragon God can take control of her wolf. Now is not the type to panic, there are too many lives at stake. Can she figure out how to save the wolves, Magic Side and most of all herself? This story has many twists and turn each one pulling you into the story further. As much as you want them to save everyone, you know it is going to be a loss at the end of the book. Great conclusion to an excellent story! I look forward to reading Sam's story next! Highly recommend this series!
This series of Savannah and Jax was amazing! The characters were strong and diverse. I love reading a series where there is no lag…no slump in the middle. This book reflects how powerful Love, Honor, Pride, Strength, Compassion, and Friendship can be and should be in this world. It showed the vulnerability of Trust and how strong that one emotion can effect a relationship. Totally Loved this series and looking forward to continuing in this world with the next books! Great job you two! Thanks for all the details and background work!
I am actually glad this series is over! My nerves 😬. This is again action packed book. This series took me on a world wind journey and dear I say it was too busy, too action packed? Maybe I should have paced the books instead of devouring them one after the other?
I would have loved a bit more relationship building between Savy and Jaxon. Not sure how to put it, a little less focus on all the crazy drama and more focus on the how their bond developed. There is no slow down in this book, it is one fight after the other… it was hectic!
After book 3 I almost didnt read the finale book 4 but I am so glad I did. The books are amazing; the storyline, world building and character development however I just felt it was one thing after another without anything getting resolved and usually 3 books is enough for me anymore and Im bored of the story and characters. The 4th book finally does bring everything together, and the two leading characters get their happy ever after at long last. Sexual content. Highly recommended
If you skipped book three, read the recap and you’ll be fine. If you read book three you can skip the recap. Basically there’s an evil deity that has set his sights on Savannah and plans to use her to bring about Armageddon. Jaxson has gone into super cling mode. Not without reason. Savannah has nearly died more than three times in each prior three books. So there is a precedent set. Family relations are strained and multiple people are still trying to kill Savannah or capture her to collect her blood. Gods are manipulating everyone. It’s mayhem. I hope they had Allstate.
Maybe spoilers. Glad to see the end of the series. I liked book 4 better than 3. Everything wrapped up and I was glad to see FMC and MMC got together in the end. My scrunch my forehead was how the MMC was getting to be a love besotted fool instead of staying the strong person he was portrayed to be. You can still be crazy in love/lust but be strong. (I get the mate bond thing. It is the same with most of the shifter fae books. Not just the his one). Anyway it was a good series and I will read the next series.
