Blair has lived all his life on the Isle of Mull. He’s everybody’s friend – with or without the benefits – but at night he goes home alone. When Rebekah arrives, he’s instantly attracted to her, but she’s way out of his league. He needs to keep a stopper on his feelings or risk losing her friendship.
As Rebekah’s quest continues, she’s rocked by unexpected feelings for her new friend. Can she trust her heart as much as she trusts Blair? And can he be more than just a friend? Perhaps the truth isn’t the only thing waiting to be found.
Margaret is a Scottish author and chocolate lover who has been writing stories for over twenty years (possibly more if you count her primary school efforts). Her early works will never see the light of day and are locked in dusty vaults on some old floppy disks. But after all those years of practise, Margaret released her first novel A Winter Haven in 2021. This is the first of a ten-book series set on the gorgeous Scottish Isle of Mull. The stories are unashamedly romantic but with lots of drama and an eclectic mix of characters. Each book can be read as a standalone but followers of the series will enjoy catching up with previous characters. A new spin-off series based in the Scottish Highlands is coming out in 2023. Look out for the Glenbriar Series throughout the year.
This was fine. But just fine. The story line was kinda out of focus for me in places and there wasn't a lot of on page romantic chemistry between the two leads. But it was fine.
Rebekah has been living in Ghana and has had a terrible year as her boss Sean tried to frame her for embezzlement. Blair is a joiner on the Isle of Mull. Rebekah’s grandmother revealed something to her just before she passed away and Rebekah is curious to discover the truth which leads her to the Isle of Mull. Beautiful location, interesting facts about Ghana and its people and great characters plus the addition of Grandmother Elsie’s secret makes this a lovely feel good read and I love a happy ever after.
This is such a glorious book. Margaret has done it again, she’s told a lovely story filled with characters we love, old and new. It’s a really heart warming read and I can’t wait for the next one.
Another utterly heart-warming instalment to the Island Escapes Series!
Blair was so adorable, yet totally gorgeous and masculine too! Rebekah was emotionally wounded and in need of some serious healing- the gorgeous Blair, and Scottish scenery is the perfect remedy for this!
It was so utterly comforting to come across some familiar faces, and meet some new ones too! I don't think I'll ever be able to visit Mull in real life because I'd be peeping round every corner looking for the fabulous 'book friends' that Margaret has created! I feel like I know them so well, that we're all old friends at this stage!
This book is the perfect escape from the sad realities of the real world. Highly recommend!
I was not expecting this book to go the direction it did but it was still amazing! So many times while reading this series I thought it would be amazing to live on Mull but this book shows a darker side of small island living. We see first hand the financial burdens that many of the islanders carry. After being taken advantage of by a previous partner, Rebekah begins a journey of self discovery. She travels to Mull to right the wrongs her grandmother committed to a relative as a child. There she meets Blair and they immediately strike up a close friendship. Blair is a general handyman who works tough jobs and long hours to make ends meet. He carries an enormous amount of guilt for his families financial struggles and in doing so enables his family from being responsible and self reliant. Blair and Rebekah are perfectly suited for each other, though because they have quite a few reservations it takes them a while to take a chance on each other. This book hit close to home for me since my parents went through something similar to what Blair dealt with so it was hard to read at times but it was still such a great read I couldn't wait to see how it turned out. Margaret Amatt's books are addictive and her writing style is such a refreshing change. I absolutely would recommend anything she writes!
When Rebekhah follows her grandmother's clues to Scotland she finds long lost family, a vocation and a wonderful, selfless man. What more could she need? Lovely story! https://theretiredreader.com/f/a-hidd...
