I loved this book, it was such a lovely read and I found a new favourite author!
I became immersed in Ashley’s new life in Berecombe and enjoyed meeting all the different residents, especially Eddie the visiting American lecturer. I totally understood why Ashley was attracted to him, but also why she was hesitant to start a relationship before getting to know him properly.
Whilst deciding what she wants to do with her time in Berecombe, Ashley organised a funeral for one of the former nursing home residents, showing what a wonderful community spirit the seaside town had.
Of course in any romance it’s not all plain sailing. There was awkward almost kisses, secrets almost revealed, complete misunderstandings, plus a huge bombshell, leaving this part of the story on a massive cliffhanger. So of course I had to pre-order parts two and three to find out what’s going to happen next!
Highly recommended if you’re looking for a fab romance!

In Sunshine and Cider Cake you will meet Ashley and Eddie. When they first met one another, I doubt they realized how well they actually clicked. Of course, for Ashley, she fell head over heels for the guy. There's just one little problem, now she has the attention of another fellow named Jake Tremayne. Oh, to live the love triangle life.
Now this little town sounds quite adorable. There's just something about small towns that feels precious. The way everyone knows everyone sounds a little dreamy. Or maybe that's just me waiting for my retirement into a small community just like this. Either way, I really enjoyed everything about this book. The characters were so easy to like, and I found myself ignoring the overall love triangle being thrown my way. Which is a blessing since I truly don't like those.
Overall, this was way too easy to read within one sitting. The pages flew by and before I knew it, the book was over. Will definitely be on the lookout for the sequel because I need more from this seaside town. Especially if the rest of the series ends up being just as cute and easy to fall in love with.

I loved this book. It was so sweet and readable I was sorry when suddenly it finished and now I’ve got to wait for the next instalment which I hope won’t be too long as I want to know what happens next. This proved to be such a lovely inbetween read - a light and refreshing sweet tale that provided a perfect balance of history and romance in a wonderful English coastal community. It must be stated from the outset that this is the first book in a new series for Georgia and it is definitely ‘Part 1’.
‘The escape Berecombe afforded was gradually eroding the brittle façade she’d constructed in order to face the world. She was beginning to relax.’
The Great Summer Street Party is an interesting mix of past and present. The tale of Ashley’s accident is very much front and centre with her moving to the coastal community for rehabilitation and a redirection in life. She quickly becomes involved in projects and with the locals, including a visiting American history lecturer. Tales of the past are told through reminiscing or letters and I found this aspect of the story very engaging - but very open ended. Herein lies my problem.
‘I think I want–wanted–the fairy-tale.’ ‘Fairy-tales are hard to come by, love.’ ‘I know. Doesn’t stop you wanting them, though.’
This is very much ‘Part 1’ as stated in the book title. To get a complete story you will, I assume, have to read all three expected parts. Both the contemporary and historical tales are left very open by the conclusion. This book appeared more of an introduction to the characters and their backstories. I found the historical romance tales more engaging with the contemporary romance a bit too ‘insta-love’ for me and very quickly addressed.
Overall this is a quick and enjoyable read with final resolutions to come with the next instalments. Readers who enjoy an easygoing romance in a lively local community are sure to sign up for this new series.

A lovely fun and romantic story, set in a picturesque seaside town. I loved the characters, friendships and community.

This is a brilliant start to this series and wants you to read more so a great start. Full of starting over, celebrating and plenty of romance. Plenty of sun seaside and friendship in this part one. Will everyone be happy or not.
Ashley has had a nasty accident and moves to the seaside town to start again and see if she can change her life. She’s very nervous as the accident has changed her life. The town is celebrating 75 years of D day and want to celebrate in style and especially for the American soldiers. Eddie is in the town also he’s from America and come over for his job but he soon finds friendship with Ashley and he tries to support her but he goes back to America and when he comes back with someone with a clear sign they could be together how will Ashley feel will she fall for him hard and be heartbroken or not.
Fantastic read highly recommend.

I loved this read, it was so sweet and such a lovely light pick me up. This is a the first in a new series, with wonderful and relatable characters, a great setting, community, friendships seaside and most importantly cake ! I read this in one sitting it’s such a good read and I highly recommend this for a big smile

Ashley Lyddon is at a crossroads in her life; following a serious car accident everything is up in the air and, after finding life with her parents a tad claustrophobic, she jumps at the chance to move to Berecombe and enjoy a little independence again. She finds that, far from the sleepy town she was expecting, Berecombe is a hive of activity as the town plans to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day; to this end they are expecting an influx of American veterans and Ashley finds the friendly community not only welcomes her but soon sets her to work. It doesn’t take long for her to meet American Eddie, a history lecturer relocated to the area temporarily, who is nearer her own age than the locals she has encountered so far. With so much planned for the commemoration, Ashley and Eddie are fated to bump into each other again and again . . .
I’ve always enjoyed Georgia Hill’s novels and, while this series is a return to Berecombe, it has some new characters as the focus of the story but it is a total joy when ones we’ve met before pop up and we get the chance to catch up with their lives. Always thorough in her tales, remembering D-Day is a wonderful centre to the story. Ashley is very likeable and it didn’t take long for me to get rather fond of her, and I’m really looking forward to continuing with this series. Beautifully written – as I expected – with an abundance of detail, this is a fabulous read from beginning to end and sets the scene nicely for the books to come. Very enjoyable and one I’m happy to recommend. 4.5*

Well, I loved my time spent in Berecombe on the coast of Lyme Bay with former art teacher, Ashley Lyddon! Having read Millie Vanilla’s Cupcake Café by Georgia Hill I fully expected to enjoy The Great Summer Street Party Part 1: Sunshine and Cider Cake, too. The story had a natural flow, the characters were likeable and the story was engrossing. Ashley had been in a bad car accident, sustaining terrible injuries resulting in leaving her job. She is in Berecombe following her recuperation and as a break for her parents who have been helping her, hoping to settle into a new life chapter. Preparations are being made to celebrate 75 years of D-Day and the town shall do it in style. A delightful concoction of romance and historical fiction, I'm already looking forward to GIs and Ginger Beer (The Great Summer Street Party - book 2).

This is the first part in a new series from this author. Based in the delightful little seaside town of Berecombe by the Sea, we meet Ashley Lyddon. Ashley has come to Berecombe for a fresh start following a car accident. She’s staying with her cousin Noah, who works at the local museum and is helping to organise the celebrations for the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. Ashley bumps into Eddie, another newcomer to Berecombe, who is visiting from America in search of his family history. I loved the similarities with Eddie to 75 years previously when the American GI soldiers turned up, and Eddie certainly causes just as much of a stir with the ladies (both young and old!) as what those soldiers obviously did all those years before!
Ashley is a lovely character who obviously still struggling with the scars, both physically and mentally, from the car accident that she was in. What better place to recuperate and get back on track than Berecombe by the Sea, and as I read, I could picture all the little seaside towns along that coast that I know so well. As this is the first part of the story, it’s fairly short, and it was perfect for introducing us to the characters, and giving us a little bit of intrigue as to what the next parts of the story may entail. I loved how Ashley undertook organising the funeral of local war veteran, ensuring that there were plenty of people there to give him the send of he so rightly deserved, and thought it was such a lovely thing to do. I also wondered where the story will take us with Eddie and Ruby as there seems to be something connecting them. We shall have to wait and see!! I shall look forward to the next part of the story!

A really lovely and enjoyable start to a new series.
This is such a feel-good story and the plot development and characters are wonderful. It was my first book by the author and I’m absolutely looking forward to reading more of her work.

This is a cozy and lovely read! You will enjoy it! I enjoyed it for sure! It's also a quick read which is nice to have sometimes! I really liked discovering the main characters especially Ashley. She is fragile but yet very strong and I loved to read her relationship with her cousin! Also there is a lovely romance hidden in this book! Then if you enjoy reading about history and memories of past wars, you might enjoy this book even more! I can't wait to read the secon part of the series!!!!

Sunshine and Cider Cake is the first novella in The Great Summer Street Party trilogy. It is set in Berecombe-by-the-Sea, where they are having a year's worth of celebrations starting with honoring all surviving American soldiers who were billeted in the town prior to D-Day. In this story, we meet Ashley Lyddon, who has moved to Berecombe to stay with her cousin, Noah, and help him with the museum presentations. She is still recovering from a serious car accident and trying to determine what she will do next, after quitting her job as an art teacher. She is welcomed with open arms by the residents and quickly finds a niche for herself. When she meets American history lecturer, Eddie McQueen, she feels an attraction to him, but she is not ready for another relationship, at least not until she figures out what she wants to do next. Eddie has other ideas. He is immediately attracted to Ashley and the more time they spend together, the more those feelings grow.
I really enjoyed this story. The setting is wonderful with great characters, atmosphere and views. I loved getting to know the various characters, and many of the secondary ones made the story. Ashley takes on a cause, the funeral of a veteran, and endears herself to everyone. That is how we meet Ruby, who is a darling woman who had once lived and loved in Berecombe. Her story was wonderful and how it all unfolds is wonderful. We see Ashley begin to bloom once again and gain some of her self-confidence back. As the story progresses, we see Ashley and Eddie stumble along with one another as they deal with budding feelings. Their story has a huge twist, and ends the story with a cliffhanger, but I have the next one already and moved right into it. I enjoyed this book of celebrations, honoring of veterans, friendship, new beginnings and some romance. If you enjoy a good Summer Party, then I recommend you pick this one up.

Ashley moves to Bere Comberton help with her recuperation following a serious accident. She is staying with her cousin, Noah, and starts making friends with people in the town, including Eddie, an American who is taking in a local University. She helps to arrange a fitting send off for a local war veteran who died alone, helping her to find a new purpose in life. It is always great to visit a place from a previous series, with "guest" appearances from characters from those books whilst keeping fresh with the new ones. I can sympathise with Ashley having had an accident last year that I am still recovering from, albeit nowhere near as serious, it does affect your whole life. There are a great selection of characters and the whole thing just feels like a warm hug. Life naturally doesn't go smoothly and I'm certainly looking forward to reading the next book in the series - it does end on a bit of a cliffhanger. I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book and I subsequently purchased it on release and pre-ordered the next one.

A warming, cozy, light read which was perfect to read under a fluffy blanket in soft cotton pjs and sipping mugs full of hot chocolate and marshmallows. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I wasn’t expecting to be reeled into this delightful community that Georgia Hill has created so much.
As soon as there was a mention of a bookshop in the first few chapters, this book had my attention. I become intrigued by how this would conclude very quickly. It has been left wide open and I will definitely be picking up the next book in this series.
I have mixed feelings about Ashley, (the main character.) At some points I liked her and then at others, I didn’t. I found her to be a bit flippant at times. Despite this, I loved her friendship with Ruby and I was captivated by the will they/won’t they element of her relationship with Eddie.
Overall, this is a quick read with short chapters that I recommend to anyone looking for a new adorable romantic series. I can’t wait to hear more about this little community!

After being seriously injured in a car accident, Ashley accepts an invitation to join her cousin in Devon to help organise the Berecombe D-Day anniversary party. As she tries to start her painting again, she meets mysterious American Eddie McQueen. As the attraction grows between the two, Ashley starts to wonder about Eddie’s secrets.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Great Summer Party, although it is definitely a ‘Part 1’ as the story didn’t really end, with many strands left open. I’m not a great fan of waiting for the next instalment to find out how things develop (and I’m certainly hoping that things are resolved before the end of Part 3!) but overall it’s a fun story with plenty to keep the interest going. I also hope that Ruby comes back into the story at some point, as she was a great character, and the formidable Biddy, with Elvis the poodle in tow, is another wonderful character, whose back story could probably fill a book on its own!

This was my first book by this author and won’t be my last. The great summer street party is part one in a series of three books and is such a delightful escapism read and a beautiful story that brought back lots of memories of my Nan with the descriptions of stories from the war. I warmed to all of the characters in this cosy and comforting read which is a mixture of romance and historical fiction and also features the gorgeous sounding Berecombe of which the authors descriptions make you feel that you are walking on the beach and eating fish and chips and also contains a whole lot of community cammoradary and spirit into the mix while telling the story of how Ashley ended up moving to the town and the events leading up to this and how she comes to meet Eddie abs starts to find herself again. I was so hooked by this story and read it almost in one sitting. I can’t wait for the second book when it comes out. Highly recommend.

The citizens of Berecombe welcome you into their small town, and you are invited to attend the celebration of the 75th anniversary of D-Day! This party kicks off a years long celebration, and it seems everyone in the town is involved in one way or another.
This was a sweet, fun introduction to Berecombe and focused on Ashley, a recent arrival; her cousin Noah and various residents. We meet Ruby, who lived in Berecombe when she was a child/teenager, back when children were sent from London into the countryside for their safety during the war times. We meet Eddie, an American who is in the area to teach at the local university and whom Ashley falls hard for. Oh, and Jimmy, who we never meet in real life but whose life is celebrated by those who knew him after his death.
I look forward to reading future books in this series.

This one gets 3.5 stars. It's very middle of the road when it comes to the story itself and I'm kind of mad that it doesn't have a totally definitive ending, which I shouldn't complain about because the title tells you right off that it's Part 1.
Ashley is an interesting character and I love every single one of her interactions with her cousin and the people of Berecombe-by-the-Sea. Her story of moving to a new place to figure out her life after a terrible accident is downright inspiring and extremely believable in that she works hard to figure out what she wants.
My main complaint comes from her relationship with Eddie. They spend mere moments together but they're sure they're meant to be together? I just didn't see enough interactions and justification for their relationship to be mere infatuation.
Overall, it's a sweet read that flies by and entertains.

To start off this review I have to be honest and say I got off the reading train last year when I started this book. I was looking for a light, fun and easy read. And this book did hit the mark but my concentration to read wasn’t there so it took me quite awhile to finish.
I did enjoy the varied characters in the book and the historical aspect of the town of Berecombe celebrating the 75th anniversary of D-Day. The story of Ashley, her cousin Noah, the varied townspeople and the American, Eddie, that Ashley grows fond of is sweet. This book is Part 1 of a series so the ending leaves you hanging on to what becomes of Ashley and Eddie. As well as other storylines in the book. I guess I’ll have to read Parts 2 & 3 to find out.

Does tea and cake solve all life’s problems?
This was a interesting story about a young woman, Ashley, who is recovering from a horrible car accident. She decides to go stay with her cousin who lives by the sea. She needs her independence back as well as her confidence. Once settled in she becomes involved in the community and starts to feel at peace. She makes new friends and begins to really heal in body and soul.
I loved the characters and the friendships they developed.
The setting of Berecombe-by-the-Sea sounded so idyllic that I want to be there. Enjoying sunshine, tea and cider cake.
Great start to a new series.

This starts the beginning a magnificent story of honoring those who served in D-Day and how the town will celebrate.
There is everything a great story needs to make you feel like you never want it to end.
It has family, friendship, community spirit, love and the feeling you are welcome as soon as you enter the party.
The anticipation for the next parts to this series is makes me eager to read them all.
