Vice Detective Clarissa Tempest will stop at nothing to keep Bethlehem, PA safe.
This proves difficult, though, when a new drug hits the streets. Ocean Tears makes the users think they can breathe under water, and it certainly doesn't help any that the supplier is a woman who seems to dress like a mermaid. Oh, and she's giving the drug away for free to teenagers.
Whoever this supplier is, Clarissa is going to find her and lock her up or at the very least run her out of town.
When vices reign, no one wins, and just simply isn't acceptable to Clarissa.
WHEN VICES REIGN is a part of A Mayhem of Magic World Story and is a prequel to the Bedlam in Bethlehem series.
Nicole Zoltack is a USA Today bestselling author who loves to write romances. Of course. She did marry her first kiss, after all!
When she’s not writing about knights, superheroes, or witches, she enjoys spending time with her loving husband, three energetic young boys, and precious baby girl. She enjoys riding horses (pretending they’re unicorns, of course!) and going to the PA Renaissance Faire dressed in garb. She’ll also read anything she can get her hands on. Her current favorite TV shows are The Walking Dead and Stranger Things.
There are typos and the ending left me hanging but for what it was, a quick read, it was okay 🤷🏻♀️ I don’t know if I would continue to read this authors’ work.
She just made detective. She is now working in Vice, which is not where she wants to be, but she’ll take it. Her name is Clarissa Tempest, and she wants to protect her town of Bethlehem. But there is this new drug that is hitting the streets, and it’s called Ocean Tears. The police don’t know anything about it, but its name, and now Tempest and her partner Travis have to hit the streets and find out what they can about it. Then find out who is selling it. When she finds out, she is not sure of what she found.
This prequel to the series Bedlam in Bethlehem introduces us to a strong female lead. A feminine tomboy protagonist. And soon to be called a heroine in her own right. The world seems just like ours, except its fictitious and supernatural secrets are being hidden from humans. The characters, well, their human.
I give this surprising read five stars out of five stars.
simple. easy. good plot, needed some more fleshing out.
The book isn’t a bad book.
It’s just not good.
The plot has a good thought and the storyline could be good, it’s just so quick. The characters have no development, no background, it’s less than 100 pages and we really see nothing of the mermaid other than two interactions.
There was so much missing. As much as I love the idea of the characters and the story line of a human detective in a supernatural world I won’t be reading any more of these books without the books being longer.
I finished the whole book and the plot line is pretty round but it’s a splotchy line. A really splotchy line.
The tides are changing. In the creation of so many fantasy worlds, one wouldn't think of the paranormal causing this issue, let alone this particular fantasy character. I must say that I didn't see this coming. Makes me wonder how the MFC will handle what's to come and whether the world will be as knowledgeable as to the unexpected. We shall see. I can't wait to start the next book.
Police procedural meets paranormal world. The police detectives are confronted with an unexpected element while trying to solve crime the regular way. Chasing answers just might lead to realizing not everything is in the police manual.
When Vices Reign (Bedlam in Bethlehem) by Nicole Zoltack – Her first day as a Vice detective leads to a case that seems to involve actual mermaids. Pennsylvania must be more interesting than I thought! Lol Happy Reading!
