Two bodies, plus too much time on your hands… Can cause a heap of trouble. Dogwood Donuts owner, Maggie Sharpe, doesn’t handle boredom very well, and she’s been twiddling her thumbs since she had to close the shop while the roof is being redone. Desperate for distraction, she and her bff take a road trip to stay at a vacation rental. Two deaths under suspicious circumstances turn her impromptu getaway into bit of a nightmare, and just when she thinks that things couldn’t possibly get worse, an ice storm causes a power outage. There’s a mysterious stranger who seems to be stalking her, and Maggie wonders if she’s next on the killer’s list. Nothing about the case makes sense until, at last, everything does…but will it be too late? Find out in this delectable Cozy Mystery!
Since Maggie was having such extensive work done at the donut shop, Ruby suggested a road trip which quickly mushroomed into a trip for all four donut shop employees. Poor Mags and Ruby couldn't catch a break from murder, and it was just good thing one of their favorite law enforcement officers happened to be staying at the same hotel.
Some creepy dude seemed to be following Maggie around even to the truck stop. Her trip around the building and into the basement (which seemed like said dude was after her) was quick but effectively creepy! There was a good twist I didn't see coming when the case was wrapped up. I thought it was sweet that Maggie and Brett were finally seeing each other. I don't want to spill too much, but it's really best to read this series in order so you'll get the whole effect of everyone's relationships and history. I'm really enjoying this series a lot on KU!
This is a short cozy mystery but to be honest was short on the mystery for me. It may just be me, but I found this to just be lacklustre.
I'm from Little Rock and the author made it out to be some little rinky dink place. Granted it's not a huge city. But it's not as small of a city like there are in other parts of Arkansas or Missouri where the series is based.
I also just had a hard time believing that there is a hotel that is not staffed but there is a door code given to get in and out of the main entrance. I've been in my fair share of hotels and I find that highly unbelievable.
With this story being as it was, I don't know that I will continue on with the series.
Great addition to this series! One of the things I loved is that all the main characters were taken out of their comfort zone both their town and their jobs. The other thing I loved was that the villains weren't just killers, they were a little evil. Not spooky evil just why they were doing the killing. The characters personalities were multifaceted and in some cases showed a different side. The storyline was interesting and the mystery well plotted.
The donut shop is still closed and the owner/employees take a road trip. They're supposed to be sightseeing and making a business purchase, not involved in a murder!
This is book 6 in the Raised and Glazed Cozy Mysteries series. Maggie, Ruby, Myra and Orson decide to take a road trip since the roof collapsed at the donut store. They checked into an old hotel that the rooms are rented out. Things start to happen. I felt a bit scared with a few of the things that happened.
I am very in love with this series! This one, however, was a bit confusing. It seemed to be all over the place and he was she and she was she… I know! Confusing, right?! Even at the end I was left a bit confused. I feel there should have been a little bit more story in the story. Buuut, the point of the trip was to get the food truck. But did they actually get it? Guess you’ll need to read this short tale to find out. And I do mean short because this was only about one hundred pages. I do like quick reads and most of the books in this 10 book series are right at one hundred pages. I like the donut shop crew. All 4 characters have their own unique personalities and I love every one. There is a bit of curiosity with Maggie and Ruby when a murder occurs and Orson and Myra often add in their own thoughts, but the curiosity isn’t so extreme that I feel there’s complete nosiness that ends up driving me crazy and causing me to scream, “Mind your own business!” The balance is perfect between helping and being curious. I will definitely be looking for more reads by Emma Ainsley to find out if they are at all similar to this Raised and Glazed Cozy Mysteries series. I feel so at home while sitting in my rocking chair out in the warm sunshine reading this feel good series. Next book is the 7th - Icing the Blues - another short book in this 10 book series.
I love this series!!!! It started out with Maggie and Ruby stir crazy with the donut shop closed for the roof repair. Ruby was trying to work on her new cookbook for food trucks, she told Maggie about her plans and that is what started their road trip to go buy a food truck in Little Rock. They told Orson and Myra (the new employee) they were going out of town and to keep an eye on the repairs, but Orson and Myra were not going to stay at home bored while Maggie and Ruby were not. That is the start of the road trip, as they make a pit stop at a truck stop, Maggie text Brett to let him know where they are going and actually at the same truck stop, were he is heading to a police symposium. As the donut gang got to their rental at the hotel guess who they ran into? Brett, they decided to have dinner together and that's when it turned into a hotel from hell. And the murders happened. That means who? Why? You have to get the book to find out! You won't be disappointed!!!!!
The Dogwood Crew on vaca, what could go wrong? Just about everything.
What I liked was how the crew took lemons (a closed for repairs donut shop) and made lemonade (road trip to purchase a food truck) only to be caught in an ice storm and a murder (or two). This was on the edge of a thriller. It was cool how even Chief Mission was in on the action being in the area for a police conference. I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure this one out.
On to the next one of these super quick but fun reads!
The donut shop is closed because the roof fell in from all the rain
As Maggie has the roof looked at by a contractor she finds out that besides the one big leak the whole roof needs replacement which will take two to three weeks. Bored with the shop closed they take a road trip to see a food truck to possibly buy. Once they arrive they are immersed in a double murder that Maggie digs into. A fun read.
With the donut shop closed for repairs everyone is bored & looking for something to do. Ruby suggests a road trip to meet with her pub!usher & look at a truck. Things go very wrong for the group. Pick up a copy to see how it all plays out. Great addition to the series with all the fun characters that you've come to love in this series.
Maggie is bored after a storm causes damage to the donut shop so she decides to take a trip with Ruby to look at a food truck. The rest of the gang tags along for a little vacation but things go wrong at the hotel but thankfully Brett (chief of police and Maggie's boyfriend) are there to help figure things out.
Two mysterious deaths and a stalker have Maggie busy while her repairs on her roof have her taking a break from her doughnuts. Once again she steps into action as she uses her sleuthing skills to solve the case.
Wow this one really kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. This one totally stumped me. I had no idea who the killer was or their motive until it was revealed.
Okay weird and very disturbing and I just don't get the twisted mysteries since I consider them weird and ridiculously convoluted. I am glad it's done and Maggie is finally dating.
Well because I can be a bit stupid once in a while, I read book 6 After reading book seven!! Anyway, I don't care about the mistake because book 6 leads straight to book seven and they're both unique and 6 was a bit scary even!! Love this author❤
Fun cozy mystery that is short and full of action. Characters are relatable and enjoyable. This is a perfect summer read. I look forward to reading the rest of them this summer.
