My love affair with books began when I was a tot. A fabulous mother, who recognized the power of the written word, read to me and my sisters every night, introducing us to the wonderful world of the imagination.

Once I could read on my own, I graduated from fairy tales to adventure stories to romance, spending all my pocket money on books. My father served in the army and took the family along mostly wherever he went, resulting in experiences that beg to find a place in my books.

I am a doctor, but make time for my other passions – reading and writing stories, watching romantic comedies, and doing creative things with wool and a crochet hook. I also love solving the Hindu crossword, and - when my muse is elusive - I enjoy pitting my wits against my husband's at Scrabble®. When I have no other choice, I can be found in the kitchen putting together my 'world-famous' one-pot meals.

Writing about love and happy endings feeds my romantic soul. 'Scorched by His Fire' is my first published piece of romantic fiction, and is courtesy of Mills and Boon® India's Passions Contest which I won in 2013. 'The Cure was Love', also from Mills and Boon® India, released in November 2014.

Hearing from my readers thrills me. Do write to me at reetsingh.author@gmail.com

“He was now in that state of fire that she loved. She wanted to be burnt.”
----Anaïs Nin, a French-born novelist, passionate eroticist and short story writer, who gained international fame with her journals

Reet Singh, an Indian writer, spun a heart-touching and desirous tale, Scorched by His Fire that centers around a woman whose parents are trying to marry her off at any cost and mostly against her wishes.

Synopsis:
Convenient boyfriend, inconvenient attraction!
Mita Ramphul can't face another family set-up with a 'nice young man'. What she needs is to divert her family's attention so introducing the devastatingly handsome Tanay Devkumar as her new boyfriend is a stroke of brilliance. Until Tanay's scorching hot kisses threaten to shatter her plans for the perfect pretend date.
He might drive her crazy, yet spending time with Tanay sparks a passion Mita never knew she had. It's only meant to be temporary, but when Tanay looks at her with that smoldering fire in his ebony eyes Mita can't help but surrender to the temptation of her fake boyfriend.

Well, thee can't be any complain on author's writing, it's very articulate and her narration is quite quirky and flows with ease and it is easy to contemplate. Well, I think the way the author unfolded the story was not great, moreover, the portrayal of the three primary characters is also not that striking. I cannot relate to Samrat, Mita's best-friend or even the way Tanay was behaving all the while with Mita. Mita was the only character with whom I could relate to and her demeanor also has a sense of realism.
Well, it's a spicy and hot book- full of passionate scenes, but that doesn't make up a complete story. Moreover, I felt there was not much depth to make us see the story with our own perspective.

Verdict: A 3star rating romance book, other than the sizzling romance, there's nothing much in this story!

‘Dammed if he does and dammed if he doesn’t’, is the position Detective Tanay Devkumar finds himself in when he sets out to teach Mita Ramphul a lesson for her supposed indiscretions with his brother-in-law, Samrat. Haughty to the point of being arrogant, he is not ready to listen to any of her remonstrations of innocence. Even as he is working on his own agenda of keeping Samrat and Mita apart, he cannot but acknowledge the intense attraction she holds for him.

Samrat is Mita’s oldest and dearest friend and ‘just that and nothing else’. Beautiful and feisty she is absolutely indignant at Tanay’s attitude towards her and is not ready to go down without a fight.

The attraction between them is palpable, heady and intense and thank God for an author who doesn’t get her characters to get all coy and evasive about it. She aptly portrays Tanay as this decisive, meticulous go-getter and then she brings into relief the havoc Mita is causing in his life by the way his ‘grand plan’ can be thrown into absolute disarray by a single glance from her. Her family is warm friendly inviting and the descriptions of them and the island are marvelously sketched.

What I would have liked is a bit more of Samrat as he was the whole reason they met in the first place. Just one or two scenes to show the undercurrents between the three of them would have been entertaining and added support to the storyline. Besides, that sub-plot that revolved around Mita ended quite lamely in the end.

On the whole the book was a fast, smooth read that I thoroughly enjoyed; mainly due to it being really interesting with well defined characters and above all the flow of the plot was very good.

There are many changes from the original 'Scorched by His Fire' - I've added some new scenes, have made Tanay more ruthless and suave and sexy, while Mita is much more determined and gorgeous - the chemistry between them is unchanged

I loved rewriting this, especially since I've known the characters for so much longer now then I knew them in 2014.

I hope you like what I've done with them...

I was so pleased to read a Mills and Boon which was reminiscent of the masterpieces of the yester years and as M&B’s go Scorched By His Fire fits all the bills. It has a cracker of a story line, great characters and a lot of conflict and rocking chemistry. All this is possible due to the effortless writing by Reet Singh.

She writes the story of Mita and Tanay with such grace and flow that I felt the story was reading itself. Scorched By His Fire has such superb style, great language, good sentences and a great vocabulary. After reading the book I was happy with the way the story unfolded, the resolution and the emotional quotient of the book.

Tanay is hot, handsome and he sure knows how to strut his stuff, Mita has no hope of not falling for him. Mita is soft, gentle and a quintessential lady even though she does not feel like one in Tanay’a arms. She finds her safe haven and a true hero in Tanay. The family, the travels and the stopover, all were so well written, her language so lucid and straight from her heart. Just plain old “superb writing style.”

That the book totally justifies the title and even I felt the heat of the fire that was scorching Tanay and Mita is an added plus for the author! The chemistry, the slow build up of the tension and the raw attraction all add up to a totally fabulous read. My day was made and I found this book to be the right one to pick for some guilt free, happy reading. I plan to read this book again, so well does Reet justify the story and characters.

That I had to read this book with a lot of breaks but it only made me want to get back to the book, again and again.

I don’t need to write more, a true lover of M&B’s would not let this one go by. Scorched By His Fire is a from beginning to end an all out entertainer and a perfect example of a great romance.

Twenty-six year old Mita lives with her mother and grandparents in Mauritius. Her uncle is keen to get her a suitable husband while she’s dead set against the idea. Her best friend is Sammy who is married to Laxmi. Laxmi is rather insecure about her husband’s relationship with Mita. That’s why her brother decides to intercede on Laxmi’s behalf. Tanay is tall, dark and handsome and meets Mita at a house party. He is extremely rude to her believing that she’s out to break his sister’s marriage. Sparks fly between the two from the first meeting. Will they get together is for you to find out after reading the book.

The novel is written in excellent English and moves easily – beginning in Mauritius and moving on to West Bengal.

While Mita is beautiful, she also tends to put on weight with her mom’s delicious cooking. Realistically portrayed! I liked the heroine. She’s desperate to see the world and opportunity knocks on her door when she finds a letter that takes her to India. Tanay is a private detective and also has a project in India creating the perfect setting for the two to spend more time together.

I found Tanay quite overbearing. While that kind of suits the circumstances, I can’t imagine a modern girl putting up with a guy’s tantrums nowadays. Why would Mita tolerate his obnoxious behaviour? Is it because he is good-looking? Later, of course, he becomes his well-behaved self and we are able to accept Tanay for what he is.

The sizzling romance between the couple along with peppy dialogues keeps the story moving and makes for an interesting read.

‘Scorched by his Fire’ by Reet Singh is set in Mauritius and starts off as a typical Indian family drama – uncle wants niece to meet a ‘nice young man’ as she’s of a marriageable age. Niece rebels and uncle doesn't relent, but here the story takes a turn from the usual.

Through a quirk of fate and to escape her uncle’s badgering, Mita finds herself –in Tanay’s words – ‘plighted to the troth’. Tanay thinks she’s a ‘scarlet woman’, ‘home-wrecker’, and a ‘bewilderingly sexy chameleon’! Mita, on her part, ‘detested’ him for disrupting her life.

The story is filled with humorous dialogues:-
• “I wasn't staring. I was thinking.” She said.
“Well, my apologies if my face invaded your thinking space. I’d remove it for your convenience, except that you don’t want a faceless boyfriend, do you?

• Mita said sheepishly, “But if I keep digging into the culinary wonders on offer, there’ll be two of me going back home.”
Ah what a double delight that would be! He thought.

• She couldn’t tie the choli strings and asked Tanay for help.
“I can’t do this myself. Can you tie me up?”
“Happily,” he quipped, moving towards her with a menacing expression. “Where’s the rope?”

The discovery of a letter leads her to India with Tanay on her tail. The landmarks of Delhi and Kolkata are well depicted. The dialogue delivery advances the plot which is full of action.

Superbly written…a must-read for all lovers of romance.

This is old wine in a new bottle …or shall we say new wine in the old bottle? Although my concerns remain the same as before with the old wine, this one is more mature in its rich narrative and distinct style. My memory being piss-poor, I kept wondering where I’ve read this before until I read Adite’s review on the ‘revamped’ version of the earlier book. The plot remains the same although the diction has a new flavour at places. I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to retell a story under a new cover, but if you haven’t tasted the old wine, the new one, which has more sparkle, will definitely entertain you till the very end.
This is a complex story of two volatile and somewhat confused individuals, who remain in a constant state of denial of being attracted to each other until the very end. It is not uncommon to find two distinctly opposite characters falling in love, but here the physical attraction was the main ingredient behind their ultimate union than anything else.
The plot has its share of grey areas but then which plot doesn’t? Nonetheless, it’s a good read on a cold winter night, tucked under your rajai, when the late evening smog engulfs the whole city of Delhi. I wish the versatile author the very best and hope to see more of her works in the future.

Starting with exotic locale in Mauritius, ‘Scorched by His Fire’ journeys towards our Delhi via Dubai and ends at Kolkatta. And what a scorching journey!

Our cute, beautiful heroine Mita is misunderstood by Tanay, and here comes the interesting part which is unusual to classic Mills & Boons, he is a detective! (adding to hottie quotient). There is something about law officials, which makes me drool over them. Women in Mita's family are all beautiful, which makes her oblivious of her charm. The misunderstanding creates more conflicts and an emotional trauma for both of them as they get genuinely attached to each other and finally fall in love.

What I loved about the story was that it was fast paced with balanced emotional scenes. The scene with the lehenga-choli in the mirror is mind blowing. Chemistry between Mita and Tanay really scorched, burned and crashed me. The twist in the end which gives us a profound message is well thought of. All in all a highly recommended read!

Take One Fake Finance tackles one of my favourite tropes in romance. A fake fiance to deal with a difficult situation.
What makes Reet's book stand out is the way she has presented the story, fleshed out the characters making the reader root for both Tanay and Mita.
It felt like watching a perfect, super hit Bollywood blockbuster. It begins in Mauritius and takes the reader on a fun ride and ends up in West Bengal.
Will the lies they spin create problems for them ? You have to read it to find out.

I very much enjoyed this revamped edition of Scorched by His Fire. I was getting really annoyed with Tanay because of his insistence in accusing Mita of breaking his sister's marriage and also with good old Uncle that insisted in marrying Mita of. But fortunately all ended well and the developing of the whole story kept me hanging on in suspense right to the end. A must read.

VACATION CHASER
I was on holiday as I read Reet Singh’s debut M&B Romance “Scorched By His Fire” so my mindset was already to relax and be swept away on a journey, an adventure. A romance!
I was.
Mita Ramphul (weird last name) is a feisty schoolteacher who probably has many teenage boys crushing after her, she is that hot. Tanay Devkumar (hottie alert) is Sam Spade reborn and with an attitude to boot. From the first scene onwards, I kept expecting him to wear a bowler and ask for Effie! Their chemistry is undeniable and that’s what works for “Scorched by His Fire.”
Set in balmy Mauritius, Reet gives us a wonderful bird’s view of life on the island and skillfully weaves in different and scenic locations that immediately pulled this reader in. And the lead characters’ interactions from the opening scene are, to say the least, explosive. Tanay and Mita do not get along at all, and yet are thrown together through very interesting circumstance.
It is a classic story of misunderstanding: he thinks she is a home wrecker (of his sister’s home, no less!) and she thinks he is too arrogant for words (Bogie, recall). Clashes abound but so does passion; as it does in romances. He wants to keep her away from her alleged “l’amour” his brother-in-law Sam and pretends to be her loving fiancé for the same reason! Mita, who can’t stand Tanay is forced to go along with the lie because she wants to save her mom the embarrassment of having an alleged adulteress for a daughter and because Sam is her childhood bestie. Rocking the boat is not in her plans.
Add an accident, a family gathering, a family mystery that surprise! requires the good detective’s help. All of which further entangles the web of lies and brings Mita and Tanay back home to India. With a sexy stopover in Dubai. Deft touch by the way, with that, Reet.
Reet’s story really comes home in Delhi where every nook and corner is described with loving detail, before it goes to bustling Kolkata and the final mystery is solved!
As a romance it holds its own, with a few interesting plot twists, but what this reader really liked about “Scorched by His Fire” is that it doesn’t shy away from sex. The title suggests a steamy read and it really is...especially a scene involving a choli and mirror. But it also has a strong storyline that reaches a satisfactory ending. If there are a few weak threads to the story, they do not take anything away from the overall burning romance that is at the heart of every Mills and Boon novel.
“Scorched by His Fire” is the perfect holiday read, or if you aren’t on holiday, read it so it takes you on one.

I had the pleasure of meeting Reet Singh at the Pune Lit Fest this year. This is where I found out that she is the author of Scorched by his Fire. I can never say no to reading a romance and Scorched by his Fire turned out to be a really sweet and romantic read.

Mita is a twenty six year old. Like every family, her family wants her to get married to a nice young man and Mita needs to divert their attention. I really liked Mita. I think she was sweet and funny and feisty. She was protective and a little bit possessive of her loved ones but her heart was always in the right place. All in all she was very easy to relate to.

Then we have Tanay. Tanay is suspicious that Mita is having an affair with her best friend. The best friend also just happens to be Tanay's brother-in-law and Tanay will do anything to protect his sister from getting hurt. Even if it means pretending to be Mita's boyfriend. At first, I thought Tanay was very easy to jump to conclusions about Mita but as we see his side of the story we get to understand him.

Tanay and Mita have undeniable chemistry since the moment their eyes meet. Though they have sparks flying all over the place they don't trust each other. I found their journey of finally realizing their feelings for each other very sweet.

The book spans from Mauritius to Kolkata where Mita goes in search of her family's origins. Reet Singh's writing style is easy and engaging and I flew through the pages of Scorched by His Fire. I really wanted to get to the end and see Mita and Tanay's much deserved happy ending. I did wish that we'd gotten an epilogue though. Scorched by His Fire was a quick, good read.

*Note: A copy of this book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. We thank them.

“Scorched by His Fire” is the second book I’ve read by Reet Singh. “The Cure Was Love” was a delight, so I couldn’t wait to finally dig into this one too. And now I’m having a hard time deciding which book I like more…

This novel, in many ways, represents a journey. There’s the physical journey that takes Mita, the heroine, and Tanay, the hero, from beautiful Mauritius to equally exotic and fascinating India. Then there’s Mita’s journey from a spirited but internally lonely, passionate yet a little doubtful girl to a hot-blooded, hot-headed, intelligent, understanding and determined woman. I loved her character, she was so spunky yet vulnerable. And let’s not forget Tanay’s journey from suave, angry and detached to smitten and caring – and confident and strong-willed – rethinking all the rules he’d been living by and learning lessons along the way without losing sight of what he wants and needs and deserves. He sure made me fall for him, as hard as Mita fell for him. Just the right mix of brain, brawn and a little something edgy yet intrinsically good that I love in romance novel heroes.

With this book – and its VERY apt title – the author proved to me again that she knows a lot about emotions and warring desires. Her sensual scenes were absolutely “scorching”, and every single scene between the leading pair was so real I felt like watching a movie or looking out of the window. The opening scenes had me gripping my mouse, as had the last few pages. I liked the supporting characters too, and the thread from the past that was woven into the present.

If you like it hot but with depth, temperamental and fast-paced, enchanting and thought-provoking at once, you’ll love this book as much as I do. Now I can’t wait for the author’s next offering.

Mita is fed up of her uncle’s overactive matchmaking drive. He is forever lining-up a string of potential grooms for her to choose from. She is not ready to say yes, after all, she is just twenty six and raring to experience life.

She meets Tanay at her best friend, Samrat’s house warming party and their meeting is, well, fiery and explosive! Tanay believes her to be having an affair with Samrat and wrecking his sister’s marriage.

Circumstances push the duo to be together and they are happy to put on a charade of being in love for their respective families. For her this meant, no more meeting ‘nice young man’ and for him it was a way to ‘save’ his sister’s marriage. But is it actually a charade?

Set in Mauritius and then moving to Delhi and Kolkata with a brief stop-over at Dubai, Scorched by his Fire is a classic love story with a fresh new feel. I liked the way the romance developed in this story. The slow transition from hostility to a deeper understanding and eventually, to love is beautifully expressed. The chemistry between Mita and Tanay explodes on the pages. Kudos to Reet for making it so tasteful and so incredibly hot.

Reet’s writing is smooth and lucid. It is not only visually stunning but is evocative too.

Certain parts cliche, certain parts stereotypical, certain parts predictable, but I still enjoyed this book for what it was - romantic and sweet.

All in all, a truly heart-warming and a hot love story, and one I would recommend to all fans of contemporary romance. Read it and feel the heat!

It's hard to believe that Scorched by his Fire is author Reet Singh's debut romance novel,it's so good-well thought and nicely written!

Mita Ramphul is fed up with her family's attempts of setting her with nice young men . All she wants to do is divert her family's attention from their job of finding suitable grooms for her. When such opportunity presents itself to her in the form of Tanay Devkumar, Mita is tempted to introduce him to her family as her new boyfriend. What she didn't realize was that Tanay's scorching hot kisses will keep her wanting for more.

This novel is set in beautiful island of Mauritius.I really liked the way certain places are described by the author and how it creates a beautiful imagery for the readers.

Mita and Tanay are quite a pair, loved their banter which always ended with their passionate kisses. We get to see them both struggle to deny the chemistry between them, but we all know that love once found cannot be easily denied. The plot of this book is fast and full of action which makes the book hard to put down once you start reading.

All in all, loved reading it.I actually finished this book in one sitting.I recommend this to all the romance lovers.

This is a story of a 26-year-old lovely, confident and ambitious girl who wants to explore different avenues thus, want to delay in settling down when approached by her uncle with various proposals. Destiny had something else in store for her when she found love and hate relationship with Tanay. Time and a journey to India unfolded their vengeful and lustful feelings for each other into affection and love. The book is about their mixed emotions, and how they finally curb it by allowing their hearts to take over.

The plot is a very usual one, but the author's artistry of words keeps the reader hooked. Although, I feel there should have been dialogues in some cases, to bring out the essence of some parts of the story. For instance, when Tanay and Mita's mom are interacting in the hospital for the first time. The author could have captured the reader's attention by making it conversational and colloquial rather than putting it across informally especially since they were meeting for the first time where they would be uptight about each other's presence.

Read a Mills & Boon story after long. There was a time when M&B used to be my staple. However, this was for the first time that the flavour was desi. I wasn't sure about my reactions to the book. I'd met the author at one of the Literary festivals and had much enjoyed interacting with her and decided to read her book. In fact, I picked it up from the festival itself.

"Scorched by His Fire," will delight all the M & B fans in the country. Exotic locales, Drop - dead gorgeous Hero and beautiful, good - at- heart but a little naïve and rebellious Heroine. And the best part is that we can relate to all of it. Mita, sounds like a friend we know. Or even Tanay could be that arrogant handsome man we'd bumped into at a New Year's bash. The author's storytelling skills are admirable. She captures the emotions of her characters aptly. Her comic - timing is superb.

All in all a GoodRead definitely.

At last an Indian author who can give the Western romantic authors a run for their money. A modern Lucy Walker - (Ms Walker piqued our interest in Australia) - Reet Singh wants us to see Mauritius as she sees it. The story line is gripping and you cannot put down the book till the last page is read.
Keep it up Reet!

Tanay and Mita hate each other on sight but can't deny their attraction for each other. Now that's a familiar premise for a romance, right? But Reet Singh, debut romance author, tells their story with refreshing flair. At times sweet, at times sexy, their tale will keep you turning the pages till the happily ever after. A great debut. Look forward to more from this writer.

Someone on my feed gave this 5 stars and I needed a filler. The story makes zero sense, even for a Harlequin Romance, the hero is borderline violent with a terribly developed backstory, the heroine is... insipid, the language is unnecessarily flamboyant (which fails spectacularly in places), and the reasoning driving the characters’ behavior is downright insulting in places. Limited amount of time to spend reading in this life and I’m kicking myself for picking this. Will I never learn.

When Reet Singh promised a 'revamped and remodelled' version of her book Scorched by His Fire, I was intrigued. I was eager to see how she would rework the story. And boy, am I glad I read it. The author has spiced up the story, made the already hot Tanay 'scorching' hot and amped up the chemistry between Tanay and Mita. A must-read!

From cover to the end, a well created gift.

Mita and Tanay, beautiful characters which runs along the smooth plot hooking us to the story from the first page. There is no hidden parallel story or unexpected twist.
But a sweet read of beautiful romance. A perfect gift an author can give.

I finished the book in one go.
This is my first read of the author. I'm glad I picked it.

Mita Ramphul has had it with all the "Nice young" men she is always being forced to meet by her overprotective, matchmaking uncle. She is fed up with all the talks she has had with her family urging them to give her time to experience life before she saddles herself with a husband. But do they listen? Not one bit!
So when the very handsome Tanay Devkumar fibs about being her boyfriend, she is all too willing to let the charade go on.

Just an act at first, their attraction soon turns to true love. What will Mita and Tanay do?
Can two people who hate each other ever fall in love of the forever kind?

I loved the cover of the book which gives an instant feel of hot sands and cool oceans! :)
The blurb is very intriguing and piqued my interest enough to take up the book to read and review. This is the debut novel of the author but nowhere did I feel that Reet had never written a book before this!

The story is set in the beautiful country of Mauritius. Reet brings out the beauty of the land admirably along with intricately knitting the story to suit the place. The characters are people we often see around us and I felt like I knew the people in the book!

The characterization is good and people realistic. The characters of Mita and Tanay will make you feel that this is a M&B you are reading. Tanay is our M&B style alpha male with a dangerous streak to his behavior. He can be a true gentleman and then suddenly become rude with a crudeness to his behavior that attracts as well as makes the ladies' hearts flutter! Thus, making him a true bad boy. :)
There romance is bang on sensuous, hot and scorching. The confusion these characters feel regarding their emotions and feelings for each other is beautifully conveyed by Reet and sincerely felt by the readers.

The writing style of the author is simple and yet captivating. The story is medium paced but does not lag anywhere. The reader is kept interested and invested in the story right till the end. The book is written to entertain which it does. A light, breezy read that gives the readers a welcome reprieve from their hectic lives, Reet does a good job here. I look forward to reading more from her in the future.

While I loved the story with its many tantalizing turns and pauses, I was still left feeling a bit dissatisfied at the end. While the story handles the past of Mita that she has been searching for, like forever, beautifully and the love angle between Mita and Tanay is brought to completion admirably but the initial misunderstanding part with Mita's best friend, Sammy and his wife is not given proper closure. I kept thinking that now that they are together, they would go and make things right with a proper face-to-face, thus, giving a closure to the previous scene where they just left Sammy's wife hanging with uncertainty. Also I would have loved the story even more if there would have been scenes with their families and a wedding added at the end.

Overall, this is an entertaining romance that will keep you hooked and leave you sighing at the end. A perfect holiday read that will take you to the distant and heavenly land of Mauritius as well as give you a scorching dose of romance, I give Scorched by his Fire a 4 out of 5 and recommend it to all romance lovers.

I received the book from the author and I am very thankful to her. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.
