In Wyoming’s sweeping prairies a tender new love will be put to the test.

Perry Yellow Horse arrived at Prairie Smoke Ranch fresh out of high school, a smart but timid young man with a love of books, horses, and his family. In no time he found his second home on the sprawling grasslands under the Tetons. Perry’s happiness is tempered only by the fact that he’s keeping a rather large secret from those closest to him.

Unsure and awkward, the virginal young man who can gain the trust of even the most skittish horses, suddenly finds himself trying to save the soul of a wild newcomer to the ranch. Will Abbott is seemingly unbreakable and nothing but trouble, but there’s something in Will’s dark eyes that appeals to Perry’s gentle heart.

I hadn't realised when I set out to review this one that it was going to be an NA romance - the characters are 20 and 22 - but I have to say it was a pleasant surprise.

I usually avoid YA/NA unless they fall towards the top end (ie college/post college around 24/25) because often I find I lack patience for the typical lack of maturity that comes from simply not having lived a lot of your life yet.

However, with Twilight's Touch, Vicki gives the reader two young men who've both been through a fair amount and, while Will might act like an idiot at times, a lot of that is to do with his insecurities rather than his immaturity.

Perry, as a Native American Shoshone, has also had to deal with a lot growing up. His dad was killed, and his mum paralysed, in a car accident when he was just a baby, he's faced discrimination from living on a Reserve and because he's not a full blood.

He's also bookish, quite shy and a virgin, who's hiding the fact he's gay from all those close to him. So what we get with this narrative is two young men, just trying to find their feet, and dealing with an overwhelming attraction to each other that neither is quite sure how to cope with.

There's also the ongoing mystery of who stole some of the dinosaur fossils found in book one, as well as the repeated thefts of equipment and other valuable items from both the Prairie Smoke Ranch and the neighbouring McCrary property.

Together the two men stumble into discovering a possible clue to the thefts while also falling into bed - and love - in a way which is beautifully sweet and completely endearing. Will might be a bit of a bad boy, but he's been stiffed at life with a mother who marries, and discards, men like they're going out of fashion.

As Perry works with a spooked horse, his gentle ways also have a positive effect on Will and the two of them let each other learn their deepest secrets and desires.

I really appreciated the focus on Perry's traditions and history, the tribal ways were, to my uneducated eye at least, authentic and felt like an integral and unbreakable part of his character. It was fascinating getting a look at his life with his family at the powwow and through the dances which formed a major role in his upbringing.

All in all, this was another great entry for the series and I am seriously stoked for book three, which gives us Will's half-brother Kyle and the youngest son of the hated McCrary clan Shep.

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review

(* has changed to Blue Ice Ranch in April 2022 * Prairie Smoke Ranch, Wyoming, which was written in August 2021.)
Reading a book to the wild eyed horse, Gemini, about the old Greek tales, horse whisperer Perry is at peace. His only issue is his attraction to Will.
Perry Yellow Horse, 22, a Shoshoni Indian is in

charge of the bunk house at the ranch, amongst his daily duties. He looks older than he is, loves his sweet wheel chaired Mom, and his lovable, wise Grandfather, Kenruh. Perry wants to go to college someday, and loves his books about old wise Greek men.
Will, ex-con, brother of Kyle who helps run the ranch,

has dark brown wild hair, tatts and a nose ring, trouble from the word "go." But, Perry sees more than that gruff outside. He and Perry drunkenly fooled around once.

There's ranch work, guarding the dinosaur bones, family issues, thieves, deep thoughts, and a future with hope. Plus mud puddles, fishing, humor and a coming out.

The writing is lovely with detailed descriptions and a steady flow. The story holds our curiosity and we want more.

When the two head out to mend fences, they begin their sexy times and the two really click. Each has something the other one needs and wants. On this trip they also discover a huge stash of the stolen goods, so back to the ranch they head and the police and reservation lawmen are called.
Perry finally tells Will that Will is his first lover, but Perry hasn't told his Mom or Grandfather Kenruh that he's gay, yet.

They continue with work, as the law investigates the stash of goods. The thieves may have been figured out, and Perry and Will get involved again.
The wild events after the Indian dance festival,

have our guys trailing the possible bad crooks, but it's only a hunch.

Perry is falling in love, and then realizes Will is also. The men are getting further along in their sexy times and our vers.

Perry is questioning their relationship, "...there no happy ever after for poor, gay Indian boys who loved poor, pan, ex-con White boys..."

This is very exciting, and now, it's on to book #3.
ENJOY !

Storia carina, divertente e dolce.

There was something about this book that just didn't get to me. It fell flat, even though it had promise. Will and Perry are pretty different people, and while they could be made to mesh there's something missing. Development, maybe? Half the book felt as if they were pulling the other in different directions, the other half they got along in the horny kind of way. And in the end they suddenly declared their love and sat where they were, kind of unchanged but with Will a bit more chill and Perry a lot more frazzled.

I enjoyed this story a lot.

This is a series that needs to be read in order. This is book 2 of what I now know is a trilogy. The romance between the MCs ends with a solid HFN but the underlying mystery, which began in book 1, won’t be solved until the end of book 3 (coming summer 2022).

Twilight’s Touch is a good new adult story with one of the MC’s being very mature for his age and the other one (the bad boy) who grows up a lot during the time frame of this book. I loved all of the background and information about Perry Yellow Horse’s Native American culture. The scenes about the gathering, which took place over Labor Day, brought back wonderful old memories of a trip my family took when I was five-years-old. I think it was in Arizona where we attended something similar and my father took lots of pictures. I remember how wonderful the dancers looked in all of their finery.

Perry is a horse-whisperer and he also had the knack for settling Will, who Perry was crushing on. Will gets Perry into a couple of close calls during some Scooby-Doo like sleuthing but Perry also calms Will and helps him to grow up and become a better young man.

Perry was into Greek mythology and he got Will interested in it, too. It was a bit much for me in places but not to the extent that I would lower my rating of the book. Something else I really enjoyed were the many references to old TV detective shows. I was familiar with all of them and most were favorites so those references brought many smiles for me as I was reading this book. I’m really looking forward to the conclusion of the mystery in Dusk’s Devotion, Kyle’s story.

A copy of this book was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

Twilight's Touch is Perry's story, told solely from his perspective. Right from the first pages it's easy to see that Perry is a very special man and I was completely enamored with him. How could I not adore a young man who softly reads philosophy trying to calm a nervous horse? And, thanks to the amazing way the author wrote him, I got to know him through his many interests and facets of his personality. Through his pride of his heritage and his strong connection to nature and horses, through his relationships with his mother and grandfather, and his interactions with the people at Prairie Smoke Ranch. With a curious mind, excited about dinosaurs and fascinated with ancient philosophers, respectful, loyal, kind... and also shy, cute, insecure, passionate and loving throughout the development of his relationship with Will.

Getting to know Perry and watching him and Will fall in love filled my heart with joy. Twilight's Touch isn't that long, yet the author managed to craft a complex character, a touching romance and an eventful plot, all having the series's overall storyline as a background.

Can't wait to see what happens next at Prairie Smoke Ranch.

What a good story. I really enjoyed the chemistry between the MCs, Perry is such a cutie and Will an absolute hoot 😊

“You forgot horse whispering. Although that’s not nerdy at all. Reading to the horse about dead Greeks discussing if being alive is really being alive or if they’re all really dead because a tree fell in the motherfucking woods and no one was around to hear it…that’s just weird as shit, Yellow Horse.”... 😂

I loved how both show growth throughout the book. They're totally different, but complement one another perfectly. It has all the feels you could want - happiness, a touch of angst, love, fear, anger, romance - are in there too. It's a warm and fuzzy read, written intelligently by Vicki. No wonder I'm a fan of her work. If you're going to read this, do yourself a favour and get book one, Dawn's Desire, first. This is part of a trilogy and I wouldn't recommend either book as a standalone.

This is an enjoyable book that takes the reader back to the Blue Ice Ranch. We've met Perry and Will in the previous book in the series. Perry is a Native American who loves to read, is good with horses, oversees the bunkhouse, and is a closeted virgin gay man. Will is a rather wild young man who has had minor skirmishes with the law, was physically abused by a stepfather, and is now on probation working at the ranch. Will identifies as pansexual. The two men feel an attraction, but signs seem crossed at time. The mystery of who is burglarizing ranches in the area is still not solved, but the two keep an eye out for potential clues. This book has some intrigue, passion, and a spicy love story.

I'm remembering back to book one and how I really wasn't happy with how Nate and Bishop's story ended, but I thought I would get some answers in book 2... I was wrong! grrrr

Yes, Perry and Will have a wonderful lackluster relationship, but where are my Nate and Bishop details... the thieves? So many dang questions... and only a few answers.

NOW, I have to wait until who knows when to read book 3... Keeping fingers crossed that book 3 will come through for me!

In Twilight’s Touch, V.L. Locey pairs a sensible Native-American horse whisperer and an ex-con with a wild streak as wide as the Tetons. And while Perry Yellow Horse can tame mistreated horses, noting, “you couldn’t yell and scream at a horse then expect him to listen when you whisper,” my heart ached - believing Will Abbott was just waiting to buck while taking the inexperienced Perry for a ride.

Perry loves Greek and Roman philosophy. He hungers for college, except his disabled mom and grandfather are on public assistance and they count on his income to supplement theirs. Early on, he learned the only safe place was in the closet. “Being Native was enough to get you noticed, being a nerd was enough to get you shoved into walls, being gay was enough to get you dead.” Perry loves Socrates because, “His wisdom, a wisdom that many around him lacked, was that he knew the limitations of his own knowledge.” And while Perry has always been more mature than his 22 years, he repeatedly ignores his common sense to follow Will.

Will says the right things – that he cares for Perry and has gone “clean,” but what con hasn’t? His adventures always seem high-minded, but he is impulsive and has the legal record to prove it. Or, as Perry decides, “the man was like lightning in a bottle: brilliant, beautiful, and breakneck.” My stomach was in knots, knowing this could not end well. Or could it?

Time is out of synch in this standalone, the second in V.L. Locey’s Prairie Smoke Ranch series. When Perry and Will were on misadventures, and I wanted them to get the heck outta Dodge, the tempo moved like the turning of seasons. But when they were discovering each other, it zipped like lightning, leaving Perry (and me) hungering for more. And that’s some talented writing!

Nature features large, a spotlight on the hard work and simple needs of these characters. How’s this for setting a mood? “It was just dawn, the daybreak a slow, sullen sort of sunrise.” And descriptions of Native American relations with whites, amongst themselves and their lands, is portrayed with gentle dignity and humor, like Perry’s description of his mother, who “was no bigger than a hiccup.”

Sure, there is plot, as the lovers search to find those responsible for thefts on the ranch. But truly, ‘Twilight’s Touch’, is an opposites attract character study. Perhaps Perry was raised with prejudice and a missing father, but knew he was loved. For Will, Perry notes, “It seemed that every creature on this earth had been yelled or screamed at, some for longer than others, but the anxiety caused by shouting lingered.” And so readers hunger to learn if Perry’s whispers tame this stallion, whose motto may be the phrase Will uses on Perry, “Whatever it takes to win.” Yikes

In these hard times, when we want to believe in the power and value of witnessing the best in others, Twilight’s Touch’s Perry Yellow Horse combines the wisdom of an old soul and an innocent. And I was moved to recall the strength of love, faith and loyalty! Just lovely!

I was angry at the way Book #1 ended and I got even angrier as I started Book #2. A mention or two of Nate and Bishop and hardly any dinosaur bones. What there was was a boring romance that I quickly got tired of. Its probably just me, but I'm through with this series.

First of all, the covers in this series are killer. I absolutely love them! This is the second book in the trilogy and it continues on with the mystery of what is going on at the ranch. The single POV is through Perry's eyes as he navigates his crush on the troublesome new ranch hand that likes to look for (sometimes questionable) adventure.......and has a knack for actually finding it.

I loved learning more about Perry's cultural traditions and family. The supportive characters of his grandfather and mom are lovely. Many times I just wanted to shake Will! But Perry could see farther than me, bless him. His love for philosophy and horses was very charming and well crafted for the reader to understand the motivations needed to get these two young men together.

I definitely would recommend Twilight's Touch for readers looking for a modern western with a little bit of mystery and a whole lot of terrific characters that can absorb your reading time in a way that has you smiling while watching two young men find their path in love and life on a Wyoming ranch. Can't wait for the next book! (4.5 stars)

Will and Perry could not appear to be more different from each other yet they are actually just what the other didn't know they needed.
These two young men have both experienced life hardships and are brought together at Prairie Smoke Ranch.
I loved the dynamics between these two guys. Perry's gentle ways have such a positive effect on Will. These two grow together into becoming better young men. I enjoyed their journey and I am looking forward to book 3 in the Prairie Smoke Ranch series.

Sooo good!!!!

This book had me laughing and crying. I was feeling bad for Perry for the need go have someone to really talk to. And I felt the same wag for Will, to have someone to understand him and to love him for his imperfections. I was pulling for the both of them.

“Succede a tutti,” rispose Will. “Ma nessuno deve essere nulla qui, è questo il bello del ranch. Ognuno vive la sua vita e ama chi vuole amare.”

Mi è piaciuto molto anche l’approfondimento delle usanze dei nativi, delle loro feste e danze, così come la descrizione delle difficoltà di convivenza fra nativi e bianchi, come li definisce Perry.
Il mio consiglio è di immergervi in questa appassionante lettura, in attesa del volume conclusivo.

✔ Letto! Perry Cavallo Giallo e Will Abbott.

Per me è ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

This is book 2 in the Prairie Smoke Ranch series. I have not read book 1, Dawn's Desire. I didn't feel like I was missing anything, but for the discovery of the bones! I want to go back and read it, though. I'm intrigued, but it's not a necessity to have read, I don't think.

Perry works at Prairie Smoke Ranch, mostly with the horses who don't trust people. He reads to them. Ancient Greek history of all things. I loved this, even if I had no clue who he was reading about!

Will and Perry have a bit of a moment, a while back and its been playing on his mind but Perry, the wonderful human that he is, doesn;t want anyone to know. It could harm his mum and his grandfather and Perry won't do that.

Somewhere along the way, Will gets so far into Perry mind, he crosses into his heart and it really was delightful watching these two dance in the rain!

I loved that Will, bad boy that he is, doesn't want to corrupt Perry, he wants Perry to see it's ok to let go, to be yourself, to TRULY be you.

Or at least that is what I think he wants to do. Because Will doesn't get a say and thats the only reason I can't stretch to the full 5 stars. Perry speaks, and only Perry. And I really wanted Will. Especially after I found they had that moment before. When they were dancing in the rain, and really wanted to hear from Will when Perry finally, FINALLY lets him in.

All in all, a beautifully written book, a wonderful tale, and I want to go back and forward with this series!

4 wonderful stars

Really enjoy it

Twilight's Touch is the second bookin the Blue Ice Ranch series. It focuses on the relationship between Will and Perry. Will is a bad boy type that's working off his probation at the ranch while Perry is a young native american that works hand for his family and tribe.
The story is well written and the characters are worth investing in. It was definitely a good follow up to the first book. I equally look forward to the last bookin the trilogy as well.
My only complaint was that I wish there had been more done for Perry and his family, such as them maybe getting some new stuff or him going back to school.

3.5⭐️ I really like this book! Love the Native American representation, the MCs relationship was so cute! It’s so cute how their relationship progressed, they had such a chemistry! The story line was a little too vague, it didn’t have a too fast or too slow of a pace, it had a nice and easy flow. The spice was very good, love seeing an innocent mc. The epilogue was cute but I would have loved seeing more, like if Perry started college and everything else with his family and how Will discover what he loves to do after parole. Everything just was a little too vague but I’m enjoying the serie, I really like how the ranch is so open!
