I will always say yes to reading a book by Karen Booth that features characters over 35. It’s A Widow thing is the last book in Ms. Booth’s Never To Late series and I enjoyed it immensely. I liked that these two characters were in different places in their lives yet there was this simmering chemistry between them they both enjoyed as neighbors. The fact they looked forward to their morning elevator rides was a clear indication they both were attracted and their flirty banter made it all the better.

Two years after the death of her husband, Sabrina Kelly has her own make-up line, a steadily growing brand, and a store front in New York City. She has an assistant she relies on and a widow’s group that has helped her navigate life as a widow, but lately Sabrina has started thinking about moving on and dating again. Nothing serious, she’s too busy building her company but someone to spend time with might not be a bad idea. Enter Michael Wright…

Ever since Michael moved into the building he and Sabrina have shared the elevator in the mornings before work. Michael also has a habit of stealing her Sunday paper, doing the crossword puzzle, and returning it. He’s tried to get her attention subtlety but it hasn’t seemed to work. So when they meet at a party in the building he makes his move and it becomes clear that while she enjoyed the moment there is more to Sabrina that he knows and he aims to find out.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching these two building a friendship that turned in to more and seeing Sabrina realize that while she loved her work there was room in her life for more. I felt Sabrina’s character was a bit underdeveloped. While we learned a lot about her beginning her business and the aftermath of her husband’s death, we didn’t really get to know the person she was before all of that. Very minor bits and pieces and to be honest, I wanted to know more about her from before all that. Where did she get her drive and how did she build her business from the ground up. I liked her a lot, felt she had a good head on her shoulders and it was obvious as this book went on that her husband’s untimely death made her realize that while work was important so was living life to the fullest. I loved that she didn’t cut Michael any slack about anything, but I also loved that he didn’t shy away from his past or what he wanted in the future.

The widow’s group was an interesting mix of women which added depth, a bit of comic relief, and a good sounding board for Sabrina as she began to date and get serious with a man for the first time after her husband’s death. While I felt like Michael was a bit shell shocked at first the Sabrina was a widow, he recovered nicely, and realized that he needed to make sure she was comfortable every step of the way. He may have been a bit selfish in the past when it came to dating, but it was easy to see that he felt Sabrina was different and he put in the work to see it through. I adored his relationship with his family even when they were a bit meddlesome and gave him grief about his lifestyle. While I wasn’t a fan he kept a pretty big secret from Sabrina, I could also understood why he did and it all worked out in the end.

Lastly, I loved the way the characters from the previous two books were brought into this book and how they showed Sabrina that there was more than one way of being a business owner. The camaraderie from people in her business was something she needed and the help they offered made a huge difference in her life.

It’s A Widow Thing is another fantastic offering from Karen Booth and a positive story about finding love after a tragedy and living life to the fullest not matter your age or what life throws at you.

It’s a Widow Thing is the third book in Karen Booth’s Never Too Late series. This is a standalone read with some characters from the previous two books making small appearances.

Sabrina Kelly is a 42-year-old widow, who lost her husband two years ago. Since that time she has avoided going out on dates and choosing to put all her time and focus into building her cosmetics company.

45-year-old Michael Wright has always been about work and play. He’s been very successful as a finance guy and has the money to show for it. He’s close to and loves his family but to his mother’s dismay isn’t married with children like his younger brothers. A health scare changes his outlook on life.

Sabrina and Michael live on the same floor of a New York high-rise. They even often ride the elevator together in the mornings. The small time together actually means a lot to both of them. They’ve spent the time getting to know each other and flirting. Things change for these two when Michael kisses Sabrina and asks her out on a date. Sabrina is excited while at the same time torn thinking she isn’t respecting her husband or her marriage.

I liked Sabrina, Michael, and all the characters in this story. For me, unlike the other books, I couldn’t relate to them and thank God don’t share the same life experiences. However, I understand them and would like to think I would be like them. Sabrina seems real. You see her going through life and wanting to close herself off to love. But you also see her embrace it when she’s not expecting to. I loved that playboy Michael is really down to Earth and has layers that he doesn’t show a lot of people. He’s surprisingly patient and understanding. But more importantly, you see him truly caring for Sabrina’s heart and her emotional well-being. These two definitely have chemistry and are fun to watch.

3.5 rounded up.

I enjoyed this love after loss romance featuring 40 year old widow Sabrina and her NYC neighbor Michael. While it's been a while since she lost her husband suddenly to cancer, she's hesitant to try again at love but finds her charming neighbor hard to resist. This was a fun love story with older leads that had a lot of emotional depth! Sabrina with her grief and supportive widow's group and Michael with his heart condition. Good on audio and I think my favorite of the Never too late series that all had older FMC who were NYC boss babes.

This was a sweet entry in this series filled with older MCs, and based in NY, with FMCs who are makeup company owners. This, in particular, was a gentle exploration of love after a spouse's death, as well as a MMC who experiences some health scares.

I liked both MCs, I liked that this was genuinely character-driven romance. I think the way it handled Sabrina's re-entry into love felt respectful and genuine and I liked the supporting characters who helped to fill out Michael and Sabrina's personal lives. The professional felt a little thinly developed but this was definitely more romance-centered and that's usually my jam and jelly. My main quibble is the lack of driving tension for most of the book. I'm not saying there weren't obstacles or genuine concerns with getting together. But that tension that drives you to want to turn that page, that "what will happen next?" type of compulsion, was lacking for me. Sabrina waffled and felt unsure through most of the story, and even when she decided she was ready for love, it didn't have a sense of urgency.

I read it at a leisurely pace, and I started reading it on release day when my pre-order came in and finished it yesterday and it was nice. But I wish I had the same amount of excitement in actually reading it that I had in viewing the cover. But that's my two pennies. It's a leisurely-type of read and if that's what you're in the mood for, you may enjoy this.

Booth really has hit home for me with her very relatable characters who are more mature and regular-looking. So identifiable and easily relatable. I could read these 5 days/week!

Good book but it wasn’t captivating. I found myself shutting it off and doing other things. Normally I will listen straight through. I wish there would have been a follow through with this couple instead of it ending when things were starting to get good. I understand there are other books in this series but they are based on other characters. I wish there was another book about them.

Thank you to Karen Booth for a gifted copy of this book in exchange for an honest and voluntary review. All opinions are my own.

It's a Widow Thing is the third book in the Never Too Late series. I was very excited to read this, as I have recently been introduced to this author's work and read the second book in the series. I am delighted to say that this third book is just as enjoyable as the last.

Karen introduces us to Sabrina, a young widow who feels ready to dip into dating again; however, due to her previous traumatic experiences, she is not looking for anything serious. However, her dreamy neighbour, Michael Wright (yes, Mr Wright!), would like to change that. As a reader, you can not deny the attraction between the two, and it's not long before they are engaging in lots of shamelessly flirtatious behaviours.

The writing takes a sensitive subject and brings it into the limelight exceptionally well without being draining. The theme of loving again after losing someone is relatable and realistic, and I am confident this will bring comfort to those who have similar experiences. Sabrina's mixed emotions are excellently written, and I wanted to jump in the pages and give her a huge cuddle. Michael's charm and patience are also created to a high standard. I adored getting to know both of these characters.

If you seek a light-hearted, easy to follow romance read, this is the one for you! Although this is part of a series, it works perfectly as a standalone. Highly recommended read for fans of this genre and anyone looking for an introduction to modern "happy ever after" reads.

This one was very cute and I liked that it addressed serious issues. I thought Michael did a good job of slowing things down once he realized Sabrina was a widow. I also get why Sabrina would kinda want to hide that aspect of her life. She was a bit from the big event, had been healing, yet when ever anyone talked to her about it, it was like she was right there when things were fresh.

I knew Michael not talking about his health issues would cause a problem, but understand why he didn't. He was still trying to get in Sabrina's good graces and bringing this too early would have put a stop to things I'm sure.

Once everything was out in the open and these two could talk, it seemed they were on the same page, moving ahead with their relationship.

I loved how this one ended, liked that they were happily planning their future.

I loved this book! A lot of the books I’ve read don’t feature characters over 40, but I was glad this series does feature characters who are over 40. I loved the banter between Sabrina and Michael. It was wildly entertaining! Also, I loved how Sabrina was able to find love again after a tragedy. I had a hard time putting this book down! Definitely recommend!

This was quite a slow burn for me, it took me a while to get into the book but I did enjoy the steam and romance.

I loved Sabrina’s story. She lost her husband, had her own makeup line and was trying to keep her life going. She was achieving so much and I think that’s to be admired. She’s managed to achieve so much in her life despite losing her husband.

I don’t feel like we got to know a lot about Michael. He was a good character but I felt he was a little ‘reserved’ and ‘quiet’? Maybe that was just me.

I loved the chemistry between Michael and Sabrina, I loved the friendship they had and how they seemed so compatible. It was a lovely, sweet romance novel that made you feel super happy inside.

Thank you to @rachelsrandomresources for allowing me a slot on tour and to @karenbbooth for allowing me a copy of your book!

Sabrina and Michael . . .

Sabrina Kelly has her own cosmetic business and has put all her effort into growing the business since her husband died two years ago. She is finally beginning to think about moving forward in her life and perhaps starting to date. Nothing serious, just a companion.

Michael Wright moved into the building and shares the elevator each morning with Sabrina. They flirt and he steals her Sunday paper to do the crossword puzzle as a means of getting her attention. He had a health scare that reminded him he might want get serious about someone before the opportunity passes away. And he would like Sabrina in his life. Can he convince her to take a chance on him? Can he show her he is the right person for her? Or will her fear of losing another make her hold back?

This is the third book in the Never Too Late series–and it was another great addition! Sabrina has been widowed for two years, and while she knows she might be ready to step back into dating, she’s hesitant, given the circumstances. I think the author did a really great job relaying that type of emotion and hesitancy. Allowing yourself to develop feelings and fall into someone again could be difficult after losing your spouse, and the addition of a widow’s support group for Sabrina was a nice way to convey how she’s working through those emotions. It was relatable and believable.

Adding Michael into the mix was perfection. Not only has Sabrina felt the immense chemistry the two of them have together, which is mind-blowingly amazing, but a chink in his armor (and one that he has no control over) is an underlying health condition that could easily make a widower take pause. The underlying tone to It’s a Widow Thing is trust; trust in allowing oneself to believe in falling in love again, even if it’s always felt impossible. Trust in believing that there can be a happily-ever-after, even if the future and what’s in store is completely out of our hands. I could really feel that for Sabrina, and for Michael, too, who has never been in a serious relationship before.

And oh my goodness, was there a lot of heat between Sabrina and Michael! The snippets of flirtatious banter in the elevator was a precursor to what is in store for the two of them, which made the experiences all the more exciting. It’s hard not to appreciate that, not to mention that through it all, there is a foundation of friendship. I’m all for the type of relationships that start out with that kind of support, because I feel they’re the type of relationships that go the distance. I really felt that for this couple.

I haven’t read the first book in this series, but I read the second, Brooklyn Monroe Wants it All (reviewed here). It was nice to see some of the characters from that book make an appearance in this one, and it’s also great to see a book series that features women in their 40s who are doing all they can to live their best lives. It’s inspiring to this 40s-something reader, making this a definite five-star read!

Karen Booth’s It’s A Widow Thing is a fun, flirty and delightful romantic comedy full of heat, humour and sparkle.

When Sabrina Kelly got married at thirty-eight, she never imagined that she would find herself widowed before her fortieth birthday. Having spent the past two years not even thinking about affairs of the heart, Sabrina feels that the time has now come for her to dip her toe in the dating pool again. Sabrina is not looking for commitment or a Hollywood romance, but a short-term no strings attached fling. Sabrina thinks that she has found the perfect guy to have a fling with, but little does she realize that the guy she’s picked is going to surprise her in the most unexpected of ways!

Michael Wright is a Wall Street mogul who has always given relationships a very wide berth. Despite of his mother constantly pressurizing him, Michael has never really understood the allure of relationships or long-term commitment – until now! Maybe his mother is right after all and he should think about settling down and his beautiful neighbour Sabrina is just the woman to build a future with. Only, the more Michael tries to woo her, the more Sabrina holds back. Can he convince her to take a chance on love and on her future happiness?

Sabrina had been hurt once before and she is not willing to go through all that pain all over again. But as a future without Michael seems unthinkable, will she conquer her fears and give her relationship with the man she has come to love a try? Or is she going to let her fears condemn her to a lifetime of loneliness?

Karen Booth’s It’s Widow Thing is a terrific romantic tale that effortlessly touches the heart and makes readers laugh out loud. An emotional, captivating and deliciously readable romance about life’s unexpected surprises, moving on and Cupid’s arrow hitting you when you least expect it, Karen Booth’s It’s A Widow Thing is an entertaining and enjoyable romance sure to brighten up every reader’s summer!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I have really been enjoying Karen Booth’s seasoned romance novels recently. I appreciate the women with a lifetime of experience who know what they want and are ready and able to go for it without the insecurity of youth and the competency porn of men who have outgrown their juvenile ways and are ready to be all-in partners.

It’s a Widow Thing brings us Sabrina, who was widowed just a few short years into her marriage and right as her business was beginning to take off. A few years later her business is given a chance to expand in a huge way and Sabrina is considering dipping a toe in the dating pool again. Kind of, she’s mostly terrified about it and only the hot, flirty neighbor she shares the elevator with every morning has a chance of worming his way under her armored cloak to tempt her. Sabrina is strong, smart, driven, and a lot vulnerable. I loved watching her battle her complicated feelings over falling in love again after such a monumental loss.

Michael, on the other hand, was a perpetual bachelor who never considered settling down until a recent health scare made him reevaluate his life and choices. He hates his career, he wants to change things up and he wants to settle down to start his own family. So, obviously, the only woman he can imagine long-term is the gun-shy widow down the hall. Michael is wonderful and patient and compassionate and is some serious boyfriend goals. He’s also not perfect by any means which allows him to be an interesting character in his own right.

While slow-burn isn’t usually my style, It’s A Widow Thing moved at just the right pace that it kept me invested throughout the entire thing without once wanting to scream at them to just do it already. Yes, I am absolutely that person. It’s definitely worth a read and worth going back to read the rest of the series of seasoned romance novels.

I received an ARC of this book but the thoughts are entirely my own.

She's got it all. The looks, financial security, a booming business...and a loss that would break anyone's heart. He's got it all. The looks, financial security, a job that makes ends meet...and a secret that he holds close to his heart. Separately, they look like two peas in a pod...but together, they are like TNT and a spark!

My heart went out to Sabrina. She's not had an easy time of things. Her first marriage ended in tragedy, and the stigma attached to her newfound state of widow, leaves me wanting to give her hug and tell everyone else to bug the heck out. As for Michael, he's eye candy with legs, but he's got a heart of gold, and charisma that just won't stop! Seriously, the man can't seem to help himself, but not in a I-attract-all-the-women sort of way, but in a I-may-be-a-looker-but-I-only-have-eyes-for-you way that rings sincere. The only thing he cares about as much is his family, and if that doesn't make you stop and say awww, read the sentences preceding this again. a fun read to pass a summer day.

The flow of the story was fast, but not overly so, and you have just the right amount of time to get use to everyone and everything as it unfolds. I admit, I was taken by surprise at the twist in the story. I had it pegged as playing out differently, but I'm glad for the unexpected to pass. It was just as good, if not better, and made for an ending truly fitting the characters .

As a widow, Sabrina is stuck dealing with society’s opinions about what’s right and wrong for her to do and feel. Michael’s suddenly staring at his own mortality after a health scare, and realizing that even though he loves his family, his parents and brothers aren’t the ones he wants to spend the rest of his life with. Can this pair get out of their own way to find something amazing together? Or will everything they’re keeping from each other continue to hold them back? Oh my gosh! This was just so stinking cute. And that’s not a phrase I ever thought I’d write about a story with as much emotional baggage as these two are carrying around. I loved the slow build of their relationship. Both of them are dealing with a bunch of new feelings and experiences, so it made perfect sense to me that they should approach this relationship slowly. I also really appreciated how the author showed two people, kind of stubbornly set in their ways, trying to relearn how to communicate and take each other’s opinions into consideration. I kind of hate that this is the end of the series. There are so many of the supporting cast that I want to know more about, so my fingers are tightly crossed in the hopes that we might get a spin-off at some point in the future.

A Widow Thing is the last in the Never Too Late trilogy. It is an entertaining, steamy romance about second chances. It's about taking opportunities and enjoying yourself, letting go of your inhibitions and never giving up.

This is a delightful steamy romance with leads in their forties. The more I read, the more I grew invested in Sabrina and Michael. Their chemistry is off the charts and the only obstacles to a happy ending are themselves - but given their lives so far, it all makes sense and is resolved in a satisfying way. As romance goes, this is a good one.

As books that tackle grief go, this is an excellent one. Sabrina is too young to be widowed but too old to be swept off her feet (she thinks). Her support group are hilarious but also incredibly heartfelt; their observations and advice on grief feel so spot on and I was tearing up at parts - yet it was never maudlin or gratuitous, simply a woman living with grief and realising that her life didn't end when her husband's did. Her reluctance to jump into another relationship is understandable but beautifully handled. I hope the rest of her widows group find their own happy endings, with or without a new significant other.

Best enjoyed with a fluffy blanket and a couple of tissues, and maybe a cool drink ;)

A different look at the spectrum of love

It was fascinating to see how a never married Wall Street shark and a widowed founder of a cosmetic start-up navigated the journey of love.

The big change, Ms.Booth chose to write a heroine who had not put her tragic past behind her and out of her mind. Sabrina is only just really beginning to come to terms with the reality of losing her husband. She had gone from young love to married, to illness, to loss in such a short period of time that she never fully adjusted to one step before the next came crashing over her. She seemed to
always be a step behind in her emotional processing.

Michael had been a player most of his adult life, indulging in an endless stream of meaningless hookups. When he encounters the neighbor at his new apartment, he is intrigued by her self-contained demeanor. It takes him time and patience to build a friendship with her; which is all she is emotionally able to offer.

This is a good book for those readers wanting a rom-com about mature adults with more than the usual character development.

I received an ARC copy of this story as part of a box set collection from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to share my review.

Proof once-in-a-lifetime love can happen twice! With the final book in the Never Too Late series we meet cosmetic entrepreneur Sabrina and her temptingly lush neighbor Michael who is beginning to turn on the charm on this lonely, widowed heart. The characters are interesting and the story was both sweet and sassy when their love affair heats up.

Sabrina believes she had her grand love story and life going forward is going to be what she makes it alone, but when her delightful neighbor makes it clear the attraction she feels around him is very mutual, things have the potential to change ... but is she ready for that?

Michael is a sweetheart. He's a workaholic and it shows in his current lifestyle, but he's goodhearted and loves his family dearly. Watching him back up and enjoy life more while wooing Sabrina is really special.

I recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone who enjoys a mature romance with more depth than you might get from a perky twenty-something first love story. This series is proof that life happens, and we have to pick up the pieces and deal in order to find joy again.

Karen Booth’s last in the Never Too Late series, It’s A Widow Thing, is finally a wonderful story about how a widow moves on after the death of her one true love. Sabrina Kelly has thrown herself into her beauty business, Chelsea Mayhem, after the death of her husband. She hasn’t tried to move on even though it’s been a couple of years but a flirtation with her neighbor, Michael Wright, leads to more than she expects. Michael has been described as a player by some people but he’s ready to settle down after a heart attack scares him into looking at his life. He finds that sometimes the best opportunities are right under your nose, or in the elevator each morning. Karen delivers a touching tale of Michael’s persistence in his pursuit of happiness with Sabrina and after another scare, Sabrina’s ready to jump back in rather than lose her own chance at happiness. I love the way Karen ties in all the other books into the series by having the characters show up in cameos. This one is a great story that highlights a non-traditional heroine and her fight to overcome obstacles.

Sabrina has been a widow for more than two years, but she’s still struggling with the loss of her husband after such a short marriage and feels confused by the flirting with her sexy neighbor, Michael.

Sabrina finally takes a chance on Michael and they have a dinner date, but Sabrina gets cold feet after a lovely evening with Michael.

After choosing to build their friendship (and thus relationship) slowly, Sabrina finally feels comfortable enough to to make their relationship physical.

I truly enjoyed how Michael built Sabrina’s trust in him before pushing her to advance their relationship.

A medical crisis brings up feelings from the past, but Sabrina is able to overcome the anxiety and fear, while realizing how deeply she feels for Michael. Michael and Sabrina find their happiness amidst medical concerns, business growth and a new business adventure for Michael with his brother Brian.

This is the first Karen Booth book I have read. It is the third in the Never Too Late series, although I can be read as a standalone, and it features main characters over the age of 40.

Sabrina is a widow, losing the love of her life 2 years ago and Michael has had a health scare which has made him re-evaluate his life. Life topics like these are not usually found in books and I found this a nice change.

Sabrina is part of a widow support group who help her navigate through her feelings and issues whilst befriending and later dating Michael. They added some fun into the book.

Michael has always been a player but we get the see the other layers of him. He is so good with Sabrina that I was rooting for them. There are lots of challenges for both of them to overcome if their relationship is to succeed.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and will be looking out for the author's other books.

Thank you Rachel's Random Resources for my gifted ebook.

WOW – Love the story! Note this is my first story from this author and I love how she thinks! This story caught my eye based on the cover and title – Widow. I’m not one, but I could respect everything about the notion of being a widow, when is it the right time to move on. The chapters are very thorough in the thoughts of Sabrina and her crazy neighbor Michael, “notorious thief” of Sunday paper to do the crosswords in PEN! He was hilarious! The banter between these two was great, there are some secrets and some sad points in this story, but overall it paints a really good picture of it being a widow thing! I can’t wait to read more stories from this author as the thought she has placed in this book will speak volumes of those others that she may have already written or is about to….

I loved Sabrina and Michael, she is finally dipping her toe into the dating pool 2 years after becoming a widow, while he is finally wanting to have a serious relationship after an even that makes his start to take stock of his life. You really connect with them both and feel the emotional struggles they have, fortunately for both they have friends and family along with each other to help them navigate through their attraction. The ladies of A Widow's Way Out crack me up and I enjoyed seeing friendly faces from the last two books, while Michael is a lucky man to have such a great sister in law to get advice from. This is the perfect mix of breathing new life into lives, coming to terms with the past and new beginnings in more way than one.

When Sabrina Kelly becomes a widow at 40, after being married for just two years it’s tough getting back in the dating world. While she would like to dip her foot in the pool she’s not quite sure. She’s been flirting with Michael Wright, a neighbor in her building. Michael has been a bit of a player but he has changed his tune and has his eye on Sabrina. A little flirting is fun but while he may be looking for a relationship Sabrina does not quite know if she is ready. They decide to go slow and see where things take them. As they run into some obstacles along the way it’s uncertain where they will end up. Will true love overcome all? I thoroughly enjoyed this series and you will too.

This was my first book by Karen Booth, but it won't be the last.

I loved the characters and they fact that they were so relatable. Life is messy and I really appreciated that they had real issues. Sabrina won me over from the first page, where she was trying to psych herself up for a party that she didn't want to go to.

Even though this was the third book in the series, it felt like a standalone. I'm pretty sure that some of the characters were in her other books, but not knowing those histories didn't detract from the enjoyment at all.

Sabrina married later in life and after a couple years she is widowed. A couple more years and she thinks she might want to start dating again. Michael has been avoiding marriage but after an incident he takes stock in his life and thinks he if is to marry he wants Sabrina his neighbor. Sabrina thinks Michael might be a great distraction. There interaction is wonderful and they are great together. This is just a great read about later in life characters. I really enjoyed the story and the characters. The subject matter was handled well and I will be reading more from Karen Booth.
