To be a successful pack, you must have an Omega. Alpha and Beta shifters can become feral when congregated in large numbers without an Omega’s calming influence.
Eighteen years ago, I was kidnapped with my mother. They wrongly assumed she was an Omega.
For ten years, I watched them break her, beat her, abuse her in every way. They promised my fate would be the same when I came of age.
They were wrong.
I escaped. Taking my two young brothers with me. We’ve avoided all other shifters for eight years.
Until now.
Now a new pack has moved in, and they seem to have an interest in my brothers. In me.
I will not become someone’s toy.
I will not repeat my mother’s fate.
The shifter world seems to think all Omegas are docile and submissive.
They are wrong.
They’ll underestimate me, not knowing I’m more than just a shifter.
I’m more than just an Omega.
I’m a Therian. I can be any mammal.
So let them try and take me.
Shifting Their Ideals is the first book in The Lost Therian Omega series as such, it will end on a cliffhanger. This is a paranormal why-choose romance, meaning the main character will not have to choose between love interests. This book is suitable for readers 18+ due to content including but not limited to explicit language, sexual scenes, MM. Trigger Warnings include kidnapping, mentions of past trauma, including rape of a third party character. Your mental health is essential a full list of triggers will be at the front of the book, please read these first
I just can’t with this shit. I can never get behind “captive romances” unless the captor is seriously depraved and the captive is literally Stockholmed.
These guys drug and kidnap their fated mate. They keep her prisoner in their home, not even allowed to go outside. They take away her job and her home; her brothers are held as prisoners, and they threaten to hurt the boys if she doesn’t fall in line. They strip her of all independence and treat her worse than garbage.
This girl is a strong and fierce warrior at the beginning of the book, but then she just rolls over and takes their shit! She basically sits back and lets them bully her—I hate it! If she had remained resistant, tried to fight, or attempted to escape, I might have stuck around to finish the story. As it is, I’d rather have a root canal without anesthesia than finish this book.
I’m so mad and disappointed in this FMC. I thought she was going to be a force to be reckoned with, but I was wrong. She’s just a basic petty bitch. Instead of slitting their throats while they sleep, she makes them dog biscuits. Instead of escaping, she masturbates in their gym. …That’ll show them…
Started off strong but fell apart in the end. It’s just too tame and sweet for a shifter book. The only one who was even remotely shifter like was River. There were too many characters who were written way too similarly (6 mates, 2 dads, her 2 bothers, and her mates brother) and all of them had such similar names and it was really hard to tell any of them apart. The character POVs don’t have a strong enough differentiating “voice”, they’re all written the exact same way including the hs POV. You know it’s a problem when you forget who’s head you’re supposed to be in and can’t even tell if it’s a dude or a girl! 😬🙁
Ugh so disappointing, this book started out so strong! I loved the relationship between the Fmc and her brothers, it was very refreshing to also have their POVS but sadly everything went downhill when she met the guys.
Ky’s entire personality shifted to 360*, she became predictable af, cliche and d*ckmatized, she was strong, confident, smart in the beginning and she became a soft, clingy, doormat at the end.
Not my cup of tea. Typical alpha males trying to control FMC and FMC throwing a hissy fit. Very young and unrealistic. Real teenagers have more emotional maturity than these characters read.
I won an ARC of this book and I can't express how happy I was to stumble upon this author for her debut book.
Plot = 5 Spice = 3 (there is a good amount for book 1) Character Development = 5 Some tropes = semi E2L, Miscom, Kidnap
If you like strong FMCs, shifters, fated mates, intrigue, deception and spice. You'll love this story.
I've read quite alot of shifter romance and this is the first one I've come across with this particular storyline. I don't want to give the plot away but will say this story starts off strong with spice in Chapter 1 and doesn't let up. The author builds the backstory of our FMC and the world of the current time through a set of small flashbacks and angry outbursts so well you don't realize it's happening. The characters are well defined with multiple povs. There are 6 mates, 2 brothers and the FMC. It is done in a way that isn't overwhelming and not assigned a full chapter all the time. As this is a series, this book does end on a cliffhanger that had me wishing this was not the beginning of the story. I would recommend to anyone that likes PNR and Shifter romance novels.
I really enjoyed reading this debut book by Aisling! It’s a great first book!
Okay so the world/circumstances in the book are a bit on the darker side (see the triggers) but it’s not mentioned often and isn’t a big part of the story yet - it’s not a superdark story or relationships.
I personally think the guys should’ve done more grovelling in this book - less talking and more showing, while also talking and acknowledging what they continue doing wrong (underestimating the fMC and not always acknowledging her needs/wants). I also didn’t like how chilled Kya was after all that happened, and that she didn’t try harder to escape and/or reach her brothers sooner and more often.
The book is multi-POV and sometimes there’s a lot of POV switches in one chapter, so if you’re not a fan of that, be warned. I personally prefer multi-POV! It’s also written really well and I absolutely love Brooks and Ryder, and how the interact with Kya, it shows that they’re a happy family.
I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for book 2 because this one ends in a cliffy!
Shifting their ideals is an amazing debut. I would have never guessed this was the first book by this author if I hadn't known before I started reading. I wasn't fully convinced of the storyline after the first chapters, but once I got to know Kya better and the story really started to flow, this book didn't let go of me anymore.
I loved so much about this book. It has an amazing fmc with immense inner strength, loveable men who have no clue how to act around their fated mate but who have a good and devoted heart, an interesting plot, ... I adored the humor in this book and the multiple POV is an absolute plus. The way the author even made room for Kya's brothers' POV was an amazing extra. The character building is well done and there are some interesting side characters that make me wonder who else will pop up in Kya's life.
Amazing debut, and after that cliffy I'm dying to read the next book!
I loved the bond of the main character and her brothers, how strong they were as a family, and her strength as a person, and provider. This was the first time I’ve ever read a book Aisling Cousins and will read them again. I can’t wait for the second book. I am excited to see how much butt the main character kicks!
Kya is a fierce mc who has been on the run with her little brothers since she was eighteen. She has been hiding who and what she is for as long as she can remember to keep them all safe. Things start to spiral with unexpected reunions, over protecting mates who underestimate her and rouge packs trying to sniff her out. The banter between her and her brothers is great and I love how she constantly shows her independence and fierceness when needed. I am looking forward to the next part of this story to see if and when (wink wink) the others are claimed and how they get out of that cliffhanger.
Shifting Their Ideals is an amazing start to this new series! I loved Kya’s character. She is a strong, independent woman who has done an amazing job raising her brothers and trying to stay away from other packs. Her six mates would be doing a lot more groveling if it were me because I don’t know if I could get past what they did to get her on to pack lands. This book was absolutely incredible and I devoured it in one day. I loved the storyline and the cliffhanger will leave you needing the next book asap!
I really enjoyed this book. So much going on from start to finish. I love all the characters, I really enjoyed the storyline so far, and I can't wait to see our H kick booty and take names. I've never read a book of and omega who is strong and can hold they're own. And I found I really loved that aspect of the book. I also loved the whole therian shifter idea! Its new, and intriguing in so many ways. Definitely a different take on fated mates/omegas/and shifters.
The perfect mix of mystery, action, romance and a snarky strong FMC.
Kya isn't your typical Omega, she's strong, sassy and more than willing to stand up not just for herself but her younger brothers too.
I really enjoyed the world bullding and how the guys are introduced. They're relationships with each other bring lots of life to the harem and I loved seeing all the dynamics develop.
There's a decent amount of steam and you can really see the potential for some off the charts group stuff in the future.
I can't wait for book 2 because that cliffy has me dangling and I can't wait to see what Aisling has in store for us next
I liked the background of it and the strength and tenacity of the FMC.
All of her mates were lovable as well, even River and his grumpy self. I felt like I would’ve liked maybe a little more info about her background and what she went through but the pieces that were put out there did help in understanding the FMC.
I absolutely love that she is someone who is defying the stereotype her kind has and constantly proving herself to her mates.
I’m excited to see what the second book holds for Kya and her family.
I really enjoyed this first book! There was a lot going on between fated mates, Kya hiding what she is and being on the run and the Jameson pack. It made this interesting and intriguing. Not to mention spicy with the mates!! I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes and how else Kya can surprise her mates and everyone else with how strong she is.
I loved the idea of this book so much, the blurb sounded incredibly interesting and I had a lot of hope. The second half of the book just kind of ruined that for me a bit.
It started really strong I loved Kya and her brothers' relationship. Hearing how she trained them and has fought for them for years. The scene when she calls them out in the principal's office was one of the funniest things I have read in awhile. Their relationship was just so sweet in that moment. I just felt like as the story goes on we lose a lot of that. Like the Kya at the start of the book would not have tolerated being apart from them and yet later in the book she just accepts it and never even tries to find a way around it?
The other thing I really struggled with was the main male characters. I am all for a big harem but they need to each have their own real personality and their own relationship with the FMC and I just did not feel like that. Like if it was not for the nicknames (which also drove me a little nuts) I am not sure if I would have known which male lead was talking.
This book is okay and I do think it is a unique approach to shifters and omegaverse, I just think the characters did not really stay true to themselves throughout the book. I will most likely not read the second one.
Oh and Connor and Flynn are LITERALLY THE WORST. Throwing up every time they were on the page. Hate them.
I’m about 60% done with the book and I’m not gunna finish it.
This book has an interesting premise and I think the author had a good thing going, but my biggest pet peeve has cropped up and it’s just killing this story for me.
It’s the nickname thing y’all. I hate when RH stories start diving into this weird conversation about how everyone has to have a special nickname for everyone else and rather than just… idk… having organic nicknames or going by their own names they have to have conversations about stupid nicknames ad nauseum. And it’s not only the conversations harping on pointless dumb nicknames and taking up WAY too much page time discussing and explaining the meanings, but also the fact that there are already a million characters to try and keep track of and they all have nicknames for the FMC and each other- and it’s not just the main characters either all the side characters also have nicknames for each other and the FMC and idk who the hell is who. It’s super tricky to write an RH above 4 MMCs and include enough page time and connection to each- add in trying to remember who is who with nicknames and you start losing my attention every time. Nevermind that there are hardly any physical descriptions and I am more than half through with no idea what the FMC looks like other than short (and we mainly know that because it comes up everytime they talk about NICKNAMES). I just find the whole thing to be unnecessary and such a distraction from the story. There are a few RH that do the nickname thing well without it distracting from the plot and feeling like filler, unfortunately that’s not the case here.
I also don’t know what any of the Hs look like and barely have any idea of their personalities other than that they are completely weak minded, but masquerading as these strong growly alpha males. They act like they’re so protective but really they’re controlling and awful and blindly following her horrible dads. Her dads are the complete worst and have zero remorse for their actions. The FMC is almost 30 YEARS OLD and they have locked her in a house away from her brothers who she is really more of a mother to and has been their only parental guardian their entire lives ‘for her protection’. All this even after she explains her history of being kidnapped and raised in captivity and witnessing horrors her whole life. She’s not a child….. I can understand this aspect as being there to evoke strong emotions from the reader and it successfully has because it has made me absolutely hate every single H and her fathers. I would absolutely never forgive the behavior and the treatment that they show in the name of protection, those bridges would be burnt to ash if I were in this situation.
Nothing riles me more than people thinking they know best without considering the thoughts, feelings, and freedoms of the person that it’s concerning. They really conspire to take everything from her to force her compliance- her family, her home, her job, her passion. It’s sick. I know she’ll end up forgiving at least the Hs (idk about her dads) because that’s how these stories always go, but I just really can’t connect with or understand that at all. I don’t know if I could ever find forgiveness for someone stripping away my rights and locking me in a house even if it is a nice house. They all clearly view her as a possession rather than a thinking, feeling, autonomous person. I’m sure she’ll have a heat and end up needing them to get through it which is even more frustrating because I don’t think they’ve done anything to deserve being with her in any capacity. I am not seeing enough from them for redemption ever at this point.
I could not put this book down. It’s got a great plot and the characters are well fleshed out. It’s Aisling Cousins’ debut novel but you wouldn’t know it. This shifter is *special* and she’s got 6 fated mates. It’s spicy and funny and the suspense and cliffhanger will have you begging for the next book. I loved all of it!
I received an ARC copy in exchange for an unbiased review. I really enjoyed the first book of this series and can’t wait to read the next and find out what happens.
I find I struggle with books where the love interests get a free pass to walk all over the main character and decide what is best for them. It leaves me fuming. The pack of shifters who find Kya try that in this book but they aren't let off the hook for it. Kya is a female and an omega, and that leads to her being underestimated. But she shows throughout this book that she is strong and capable. She also doesn't let hormones or fate lead her into forgiving anyone who hasn't shown any remorse. I appreciate that each relationship in this book is moving at its own pace. It was nice that their problems weren't instantly solved with everyone on board at the same time. The author moves everyone forward in a more realistic way.
I found this book immersive. The multiple points of view help us see past words, and even actions, so that we can appreciate each person's growth. I found each character to have distinct personalities, interests and even hang-ups and it helped to flesh out the story. I look forward to reading more of the shifters and other magical systems in this world. I need to know what happens after this cliffhanger! I am blown away that this is a first book.
This is Aisling Cousins’ debut novel and what a debit it is! Shifting Their Ideals is so artfully written with fantastic characters that keep you reading on. This story is an RH shifter romance. Kya is a fierce omega, which is unusual to read and so very welcome. She escapes her fate, running away with her 2 brothers and lives life in relative peace. That is until a new pack comes to town. And they are looking for her. But she has some secret weapons that keep the pack on their toes. This story is told from multiple POVs and is done so fluidly. The boys having some grovelling to do and it is great to see how Kya already has command of this cocky group of hers. I like the dynamic of the men in the group and how they struggle with their motives and ideas for the group. The plot is great, with exciting twists and turns. The characters in the story, main and side, are interesting and fun, and the spicy times are hot! Shifting Their Ideals ends on a cliffhanger and I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
Kya is the perfect amount of feisty and caring. She has been protecting her brothers and herself for years and is highly capable of physical defense. With no plans to find her mates and settle down, she builds her life around her brothers and her art. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it 😉, she lets her guard down in an environment that should be safe, and it forces her to face her fated mates. Having no other choice but to adapt to her new circumstances, she doesn't take it lying down. Oh no, she finds ways to make herself heard, and I am here for her shenanigans. Her mates grew on me, one at a time, with Axel as my favorite. And River, well, he has a lot to make up for, but he got a good start just as the author threw us right into a cliffie. I'm so ready to find out how Kya rises to the challenge to save them all, showing her mates once and for all not to underestimate her.
Loved this book the characters and the storyline were so good. One part I really enjoyed about this book was that we got the perspective from the brothers as well so it was nice to see a POV outside of the harem. I really loved all the guys they were such sweethearts. It did end on a cliffhanger but nothing too crazy. Can’t wait to get my hands on the next book and see how things end up for these characters. Spice from the first chapter but then kind of a medium burn. Perfect amount of plot and spice to me.
Kya has been on the run since she and her brothers escaped the Jameson pack that kidnapped her and her mom. Living on the outskirts of a little town it seems that her fated mates are there and she meets them after an altercation her brothers had. Axel, River, Knox, Casper, Kota and Lucian have a lot to make up for after what they did. The spice was good but I can’t wait for more in the next book. The cliffhanger was a doozy but I am excited for the next one! I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
What an absolutely amazing story. I haven't read a paranormal RH in sometime and this was the perfect way to get back into the genre! Kya is one badass independent rockstar! To be able to put all of those men in their place was amazing! I adored all the different nicknames her mates had for her. You can tell how much they wanted to protect her keep her safe and earn her respect before taking anything further. I would have liked a little bit more of a physical descriptions of the characters. Other than that, this was an amazing book and very well written! I am looking forward to the 2nd book, that cliffhanger......dang! Give me more ❤️
This book follows the story of Kya, a therian omega shifter who has been in hiding with her two younger brothers. Unknown to Kya her fathers have search for her since her disappearance 18 years previously. They enlist the help of six shifters who all bear the same fate mark as Kya.
I enjoyed the world building for this book and series, although it is a shifter book it does follow some of the traits of an omegaverse story. I liked how the men think they are coming in to save the day but really no one needed saving. Kya is such a strong lead. At times it was almost unrealistic how good she was, but it you can’t be the most amazing woman in a fantasy book where can you be?
I look forward to the rest of the series to see where Kya goes and how these men are going to fall in line and realise the women run the show here!
Overall I enjoyed this book. The first section was absolutely amazing, brilliant plot and I really liked the characters getting to know each other. For me though I felt the middle section stalled a fair amount and was too overworded in certain scenes and I was getting frustrated with characters, it does then pick back up and there's a brutal cliffhanger. Good amount of spice in the book.
I am genuinely invested in this story and the characters so I'm looking forward to book number 2 as I have a feeling that will be excellent.
I received an arc of this book and I am leaving an honest review voluntarily.
It you love fated mates and large harems with a strong FMC then this is the book for you.
The story progresses rather slowly which makes me believe this will be a long series, yet I’m not upset as I have already seen these characters develop so much in just a few short chapters!
The danger is prevalent and the storyline keeps you on the edge of your seat and dang if that cliffhanger doesn’t have me ready to beg for book two! Overall an incredible first book in the series considering this is an entirely new author to me.
I love this book!! Not only is it unique but I love a badass FMC who can save herself! I am so torn with the ending because I really hate cliffhangers. But I also love them. I just want the next book now!! Thunder, Brooks, and Kya are my favorite because they are so badass and unpredictably amazing! No one expects them to be so good at defending themselves but they are! I am so ready for the second book it’s almost ridiculous. I can’t wait! I just want more!!!
Great another one of those books where males are actual assholes, take away a female's rights and freedom (force her to stay inside, threaten her family, force her to cook, etc) and then supposedly strong woman finds ways to dismiss their assholishness because they're hot. I could throw my kindle through the room in frustration! Damnit why do we even propagate this outdated, disrespectful gender role image anymore?!
