The mother of five children, Kylie Brant claims she began writing to save her sanity. Plotting stories became her method of escape from the reality of constant ball games, chauffeuring kids, and refereeing "minor" disagreements between her perfect offspring.

In 1992 she was elated to get a call from Silhouette offering to buy her second novel. Home with laryngitis at the time, she still managed to croak out agreement, and her career was born. A few months later she went on to sell Rancher's Choice, the first manuscript she’d written.

Kylie is married to her high school sweetheart, and they make their home in Iowa. She insists that all her heroes are based on her husband of 23 years because he possesses that most heroic of make qualities — ironing skills. Those abilities come in handy, as she juggles a full time teaching job with writing and a family.

Doing things the easy way has never held much appeal for this multi award-winning author. She graduated with high honors from the University of Northern Iowa. A graduation photo shows her in cap and gown holding her two sons, one aged 16 months and the other three weeks. She went on to obtain a teaching job working with learning-disabled children while completing her master’s degree at night and during summers.

"There was a time in my life when I could imagine myself as a life-long student," she recalls. "I actually toyed with the idea of pursuing a doctorate. But instead, my life took a spin and I ended up writing romances. I’ve never regretted it!" Her family has since been completed by the birth of another son and a set of twins, a boy and a girl.

Kylie’s books are regularly featured on bestseller lists such as Waldenbooks and B. Dalton Bookseller. With over a million copies of books in print, her novels have been distributed in 20 countries and released in seven languages.

Family and friends are the main focus of Kylie’s life. When she isn’t writing or teaching, she enjoys reading and flower gardening. She loves traveling, preferring beach, ocean, and room service.

This one was very difficult to rate for me, on one hand I liked the characters progress and strength, on the other hand I found the romance a bit lacking for my taste, hell they barely kissed once I think till chapter 11.

Macauley runs a security company, and is looking forward to a little R&R and female company after four years of building his business. He is on the edge when his father's old friend calls him for a favor, he is all set to say no when he lays on the guilt card, so he agrees. The job, the daughter of the guy who is on supported by daddy, is an artist and has been receiving threatening phone-calls and letters. Mac's job is to do a security beef-up and protect her if needed.

Now, Mac he had a lot of demons from his years in the army and his last mission haunts him still. He hasn't dealt with the past. So, he goes to Raine's place and finds it a security disaster, with her doors open for art students to come in and paint while she is too busy in her studio painting. He is quick to tell her that she needs to upgrade her security and limit access to her place.

Raine well she was a fighter. We soon find out that she may not have been to war but she is not without scars in life and has worked hard for her independence and to conquer her fears. It has taken her time to do so and she is not willing to give up that control, so she doesn't let Mac dictate her life, yes when he makes her see it, she gives in, on certain issues but she refuses to live behind chains.

I liked Raine, she was courageous, if a little short-sighted in the beginning with regards to the threats, but it was only because she didn't want an upheaval in her life again. She could be a little less observant when it came to men(her accountant and agent) but was feisty and stood up to Mac even when he had a whole silent thing going. She tells him that he needs to deal with his past and that only he can do it.

The romance didn't really get going for a long while, one night he comforts her that ends in sex, but Mac is guilt-ridden, he broke his rules. He works for her and is supposed to protect her and feels guilty. Raine on the other hand tells him that it was her decision as well. Life continues but Mac has to work hard not to give in.

I liked how Raine didn't run from ugly realities in life but I also appreciated how Mac tried to not treat her the way her father did and let her choose for herself.
