Tommy Beresford in compagnia della moglie Tuppence si reca in visita alla zia Ada, ricoverata in una casa di riposo. Qui Tuppence conosce la signora Lancaster. Dopo poche settimane la zia Ada muore e la coppia si reca di nuovo alla casa di riposo per decidere cosa fare degli effetti personali della defunta. Nella sua stanza trovano un quadro che non avevano mai visto prima e che si scopre essere appartenuto alla signora Lancaster. Il villino che è raffigurato nel quadro sembra familiare a Tuppence. Scoprono inoltre che la signora Lancaster è stata portata in un'altra casa di riposo. I dubbi iniziano a frullare nella mente di Tuppence, che decide di iniziare ad investigare, il marito invece, credendo che la moglie stia fantasticando, resta a casa.

She also wrote the world's longest-running play, the murder mystery The Mousetrap, which has been performed in the West End of London since 1952. A writer during the "Golden Age of Detective Fiction", Christie has been called the "Queen of Crime". She also wrote six novels under the pseudonym Mary Westmacott. In 1971, she was made a Dame (DBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for her contributions to literature. Guinness World Records lists Christie as the best-selling fiction writer of all time, her novels having sold more than two billion copies.

This best-selling author of all time wrote 66 crime novels and story collections, fourteen plays, and six novels under a pseudonym in romance. Her books sold more than a billion copies in the English language and a billion in translation. According to Index Translationum, people translated her works into 103 languages at least, the most for an individual author. Of the most enduring figures in crime literature, she created Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple. She atuhored The Mousetrap, the longest-running play in the history of modern theater.

Come poliziesco è il migliore tra i quattro che ho letto con la coppia protagonista, forse perché sono nella loro maturità, boh, certo mi ha appassionato la storia oltre i due protagonisti, sempre simpatici :)
Aspetto un po' prima di leggere l'ultimo romanzo con loro protagonisti.
Peccato ne abbiano tratto solo una serie TV diversi anni fa e nemmeno un film.

Ma che carino questo libro! Prima esperienza con Tommy e Tuppence, ma mi sono proprio piaciuti! Albert poi, con la sua vena tragica e la preoccupazione per il pollo, mi ha fatto morire dal ridere. Bello anche il giallo!
