Make your communication tool kit as complete as your toy bag: - Tips for getting on the same page with your partner - Methods of communicating during emotional upsets - Adding skills for clear and consistent communication - Connecting better with your partner - Exploring how you think, in order to learn how you communicate - Tools for communicating more smoothly with your slave or Master This book covers techniques from many disciplines and many communication theorists to produce a practical work, jammed with tips and techniques for improving communication and problem resolution within a relationship whether a Master/slave or a Dominant/submissive structure. True to his usual style, the author has combined a broad academic knowledge of communications theory with a broad practical knowledge of Master/slave relationships to produce a work that is easily read and filled with the practical applications.
At first, I didn't realize how old this book was. Being titled "401" I just assumed it came after most of his other texts, but that's on me. It is interesting to see inside of Dr Bob's mind from many dynamics ago!
This book isn't without merit, and it covers a lot of useful and helpful communication tools and tips. I do think that he sometimes adds too much "fluff" (he will often comment things like "haha, if you caught that joke" or other such comments to likely appear relatable). There were many times where he would discuss the importance of an idea (like "negative" vs. "positive" words or ideas on clarity, etc.) without actually defining the concept. Although other times he adds dictionary definitions to some words (like "problem") which really don't seem to do much but just add word count and potentially confuse the reader.
I also don't "love" that he focused a bit part on the 5 Love Languages and Men Are From Mars, but that may just be a personal preference. It does feel a bit gender essentialist which I don't quite appreciate.
Overall I'm glad that I read this and can speak on it, but there are definitely better books on interpersonal communications.
For the price I paid for this book, I was very disappointed. It really isn't 100 pages packed with info. It mentions the living together book a ton of times when it could have been included in this book. It really didn't have that much info, just telling people how to use older communication techniques in a D/s relationship.
