Mystic Springs #1

Knot That Kind of Girl

Rate this book
She’s not a witch, so there’s no way I can ever truly claim her.

When Harper Booth moves to Mystic Springs, the first thing I do is insult her. The next thing I do is deny my alpha warlock’s desire to claim her. My body wants to possess her, but there’s just one problem.

She’s a human and I’m a warlock. Warlocks can’t claim humans like they can witches. And I need to claim her. Possess her. Make her mine.

He runs hot and cold, but the only thing I’m feeling is an exquisite heat.

Gabriel Winters is gorgeous as sin and when I’m near him, it’s as if I have no control over my body. Something is strange about this new town I’ve just moved to and something is even more strange about him.

Because I’m beginning to feel different around him. Different from how I’ve ever felt around anyone before. But could he possibly want me as much as I want him?

Dnf @ 27%/ 10 chapters

I’m bored hearing Gabriel go on and on about how confused he is over his obsession with her, but how it would make sense if she was a witch, but she’s not so he is confused over his obsession with her, but— you get the idea. Throw in some gushing over appearances and wanting a mate and that’s Gabriel’s chapters in a nutshell.

An interesting take on omegaverse, where witches and warlocks have evolved to have alphas and omegas.

I enjoyed the straightforward story (he’s an alpha warlock who is fighting his attraction to the new-to-town human woman, she can’t figure out why he’s being so hot-and-cold), but wish it had a bit more emotional punch. And the ending was pretty rushed. The steam was steaming though, so extra points for that.

Witchy Omegaverse!!

An Omegaverse I didn’t know I needed!!! Omegaverse and witches and knotting, oh my!!! It was great! Loved the story and characters. Witches and warlocks as alphas and omegas and regular humans as betas.

This was a different take on omegaverse than I've read before, with warlocks and witches having evolved into alphas/omegas in addition to their magical powers. There are still the omegaverse goodness of heats, knotting, and mates in this world. The story is told in first person, dual POV.

The h is completely unaware of alphas/omegas but she inherits a home from an unknown aunt in a small town with a magical population, including the H. There's an insta-connection between the h and H but the H is conflicted because she's human/beta. How their relationship develops had some ups and downs with twists and turns but was an overall lighter read that ends in a HEA. There's also a sweet epilogue that made me smile.

Knot That Kind of Girl is Ms. Kent's first book and overall I thought it was a good debut. There are some parts of the story I think are typical of a first book with some telling vs. showing, world building that needed a bit more detail, and some repetition, as examples. I personally struggled a bit with the mention of the H's arrangement with other women to help them through their heats and how often it was mentioned that he had been with some of the women in town, including the h's internal thoughts about this and comparing herself to them. There was no ow drama as these were not romantic relationships with the H, but I prefer not to have the H's sexual history brought up multiple times. I'll be looking forward to see what other stories Ms. Kent has and how her writing continues to develop.

First DNF of the new year...but I read most of it except a chunk in the middle I couldn't subject myself to.

❌Spoilers❌

I don't care if the characters had relationships before they meet, but the way the MMC talks about all the many women he helps through their heats, and especially his favorite/frequent fuck buddy Candy who "has a body made for fucking" but whose body and features are opposite in every single way from the FMC gave me the ickkkkk. He keeps mentioning how the FMC doesn't look like she could have stepped out of a magazine (or something like that, I don't remember the exact quotes), and The FMC thinks things like this about herself too. She's a Bella Swan who is so plain she's unmemorable, blah blah blah. She even compares herself to Candy, since the entire town apparently knows the love life of this one man and made it their mission to make sure she did too. Candy apparently does look like she stepped out of a magazine, and it equally makes her jealous AND turns her on to think of the MMC with a woman like that (What. The. Fuckkkk). The MMC even internally thinks at one point that the FMC "is no Candy," proving he's as shallow as I thought he was. But he's willing to fuck her still because he imagined she'd have "what was likely a really delicious pussy." Istg this is shit that a man writes in romance for men, and it's why I don't read romance written by male authors unless I know for a fact they don't write stuff like this. I got the ick way too many times in the first third of this book alone.

Aside from that, there's way too much unnecessary detail in the beginning of the book. I almost DNF'd for that alone before I started rage reading because of the ultra ick.

He also pushes her away for far too long (more than 3/4 of the book), and she often feels humiliation after an interaction with him, but there is zero grovel. He feels justified in his actions. Then she has a surprise heat, accepts his offer of help immediately, and then they're suddenly in love. No grovel. She has no idea how life with this man will actually be after every negative interaction with him previously being her only experiences with him, they're just fated mates and in love now.

The issue with her needing the cloaking spell of her magic is dealt with in less than a chapter, and then the story moves on to them starting a family. This is something that was so serious her parents were murdered trying to save her, and her grandmother and aunt gave their entire lives and magic up in order to hide her, and not only does her mate hardly worry about it, but it's then dealt with so quickly.

And don't get me started on how these witch hunters, instead of killing her when they found her, conveniently decided to take her captive to "have some fun", which gave the MMC (who left her unprotected even after being warned that she was being hunted by their most ruthless group of hunters) enough time to find her and save her. How convenient.

Pretty solid, low angst book featuring a unique take with witches and warlocks playing Omegas and Alphas. There is an interesting plot here.. the heroine’s witchiness has been masked by her family to protect her and it is comes to life when she crosses path with her mate. The hero finds himself inexplicably attracted to the heroine, who he thinks is non-magical, without realizing her powers haven’t manifested yet. This premise is actually pretty good but the story isn’t very well developed.

There is a lot of content repetition especially in the first three-fourths of the book, which is almost entirely dedicated to the hero wondering why he is attracted to a non-magical woman and him holding back from giving her his knot since he believes it would tear her apart; and the heroine feeling hurt by this rejection of not copulating to completion. It is the same content repeated over and over, and I found myself skipping pages just to move the plot along.

There is a backstory of why the heroine’s powers are masked, but this plotline is skimmed through, and I wish we spent more pages on it. I also wish we see the heroine develop her magical talents and witness her defend herself against the bad guys. Unfortunately, at the first sight of trouble with the baddies, she swoons and only awakens when the hero comes to rescue her. The entire episode with the bad guys is barely 1 page long and feels rushed through.

Anyways, in all this book had potential but needed a firm editorial hand. Giving it 3 solid stars.

I liked the different angle on the whole Omegaverse. It was something unique. Alpha Warlocks and Omega witches. In combination with knotting, heats and nesting. I enjoyed it very much. Though, except for there is magic, and, instead of typical Omegaverse shifters or non-shifting humans, the world inhabited warlocks, witches and beta-humans (normal humans).

Still, it was something worth reading. I'm not quite sure, how I would rate it. I have mixed feelings. The build up of the relationship took way too long for my taste, even though it was basically instalove/-attraction. A lot of things were repetitive and only expand the story unnecessarily. And the last parts of the book felt rushed. It wasn't much explained. I, for one, would have want to know what next plane her aunt was in. She said she is not dead? And the showdown with the witchhunters was somewhat short. Furthermore, I don't understand why the mate or the one on the list has to kill the witchhunters and the family could nothing do, other than hide her.

But ok. Other than that. It was a nice read. And it has a little epilogue. Though, I had wanted to know how family life could have been or at least, what name the girl gets. I will never understand, why the epilogue in books is often too short to get really into it and is meager on details.

So, in the end I'm at 3.5 stars, but rounded up to 4.

Felt more like reading a draft than a final product.

This book felt like it had potential and promise- but it needed some finishing touches. Interesting plot, spice was well done. However, the characters came off a bit two dimensional, and the supporting characters were mostly flat and forgettable. We saw them react and not really show off personality or intelligence. The further into the book I read the more there would be various statements that directly contradicted statements made in prior chapters. There was a bit deal made about witches/warlocks but next to no magic is shown being done or even discussed. I felt critical scenes were skipped over or mentioned in a few sentances after the fact, and there were long drawn out scenes that did nothing to offer information or further the plot. The closer to the end, the more the pace sped up and details that had been foreshadowed were missing or skimmed over. All in all not a bad read, and this author has promise, but hopefully she works with a good editor in the future who can help her get her books more polished.

📕 Tropes/Themes:
🌷Omegaverse, M/F, not Dark and not Reverse Harem
🌷Dual POV (First Person)
🌷Non-Shifter, Alpha Warlock + Omega Witch
🌷Fated Mates
🌷Spice 🌶️🌶️
🌷Open Door
🌷Happily Ever After
🌷Book 1 in the series

Overall: 3⭐️

Needs editing or proofreading. Mistakes even in names: Rainbow Carmichael was referred to as “Rainbow Blankenship” by Sebastian 31% and other slight mistakes throughout the book.

Saw in the end notes that this is the author's first book so the slight errors are understandable now. I hope she writes more. I am just discovering Omegaverse and I like M/F only, no reverse harem type books and there aren’t a lot of them so Belle Kent, I hope you write more.

This was actually really fucking good. Im devastated that Kent doesnt have any other published work for me.

this was:
omegaverse
instalove- done right
witches and warlocks
a plot alongside spice, that actually made sense

and it was unique. Finally, a new kind of omegaverse.

If it were a longer book, i would want Gabriel and Harper to get to know each other better on page, but because it was 250 words, it made sense. and I actually didnt mind the instalove and instabond of this one, i suppose because of the yearing between them and how crazy the plot felt- it felt right.

anyways, upset that its over, glad i read it

Knot That Kind Of Girl follows Gabriel and Harper. When I first found out about this book, it sounded like something I would love. It has fated mates, witches and it's an MF omegaverse which is hard to find. Unfortunately, it just didn't deliver. It was just kind of meh. It expanded alot on his rejection and not much else. Everything else was sped through. When a book has back and forth like this one, I expect groveling of some type. Harper forgave him so easily. I didn't love how his former bed mates kept getting thrown in Harper's face either. Overall, I was a bit disappointed.

Sweet as Candy, seriously.

Debut novel- and it was a home run.
I don’t write reviews as often as I should, but when I saw this was the author’s first novel I had to.

Fated mates, a fun twist on the classic omegaverse trope, lots of spice, and a HEA.. what more can you ask for!
Good Job, Belle. I look forward to seeing what other works you produce!

fun and fanfictiony, altho there was typos/grammatical issues and worldbuilding was weird, i also still have no idea what the characters look like except hes tall and shes “plain” better than most bridgertons but not by much, overall casual read if ur into like true mate tropes and i love that theres no reverse harem jfc

Sweet

It was a cute book. I will be curious to read more in this series and look forward to it. Kind of fun seeing a witch omegaverse but I wish there were more spells and witchy things happening.

Loved it

Interesting and entertaining, emotional as well especially when you read a bit further along. Not my usual omegaverse type book, not RH, but still enjoyable. Characters were fun and the storyline was intriguing.

It was a very unique omegaverse with using warlocks and witches as the base supernatural species instead of shifters or non-shifters, but I felt that everything from the characters to their magical powers was very superficial and not that well explained. As far as I could tell, all warlocks were alphas, and all witches were omegas. Humans, like the usual omegaverse world, were all betas.

There was some brief back history about how all the witches and warlocks were in hiding due to the witch hunts, but the concept of witch hunters was not fleshed out and only thrown in for some conflict and reasoning why the FMC Harper wasn't showing her omega witch powers.

Harper and Gabriel's relationship showed some good development in the beginning, but it turned into a mess of insta-lust and insta-love that wasn't a very satisfying read to me. It looks like this is the first book in a series, and while I didn't think this book was amazing, I would be interested in checking out another romance in this world.

Addictive Characters!

When I reached the end of this story, not only was I ready for more, I was also a little sad that it was over. Then I read the blurb about the author and that this was her first book; I was blown away! I can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Best omegaverse yet!

What a lovely, lovely book! The characters are so real, with all the failures, foibles and uncertainties that come with falling in love.

This was such an amazing take on omegaverse romance! Adding in the witch and warlock part was super original and I felt like this was very unique. I loved the true mates idea and the two main characters were easy to root for. Can’t wait for the next one!

Gotta be honest, I read this a smutty palate cleanser and it was effective.

After I finished it, I was so excited to read literally anything else. I would have taken the dictionary if that was all that was available.

This cluster fuck was riddled with errors, pacing issues, and a completely inexplicable magical world.

However, it met the minimum requirements for “omegaverse” and I actually finished it. So I’ll give it ⭐️⭐️ 2 stars.

I’m so glad it’s over.

What a difference from the normal omegaverse books I read!

I love the witchy world - so for the two to come together 😍

Such a sweet couple and I’m happy they were so drawn together.

I do wish we had more history and a discussion about why she was kidnapped and who and what they wanted to do with her

This book is not truly an omegaverse novel. There's no real mention of alpha/omega dynamics. There is knotting and heats but it doesn't read like an omegaverse story imo.

The premise was interesting but the plot needed more time to develop. The beginning was good but there's no development of her powers and the conflict is resolved in like 2 minutes after being built up.
