During a daring civil war raid, Mosby’s Rangers capture a Union General and liberate a treasure of stolen Confederate gold. Forced to bury it to make their escape back through Union lines, the treasure is later forgotten and never recovered.
One hundred and fifty years later, Mosby’s great great grandson is frantically scouring the fields of Northern Virginia following a map he found carved into a family heirloom. Chas’ goal isn’t to get rich; he’s just trying to stay alive; something that isn’t going to happen unless he can find some help.
Enter Augustus Karp, a former FBI Agent with a nose for trouble and a very unique style when it comes to investigating crime.
It doesn’t take long before Karp manages to land himself in the gunsights of a Mexican cartel, a biker gang and the Department of Justice.
The first novel in the highly-anticipated Karp series from the writer of the popular eight book Pat WalshSeries. James Lawrence delivers a tightly woven hard-boiled mystery, with deeply-developed and endearing characters that will have you rooting for them at every turn, set at an exhilarating pace that will keep you turning pages late into the night.
I love series, and this one starts out great. Multiple plots, complex characters, and many twists. Not exactly action packed, but certainly fast moving and a thrill ride. Now for book 2!!!
I’ve read all of the Pat Walsh series and enjoyed them very much. James Lawrence has created a new, interesting lead character with lots of potential. Looking forward to the next one!
Okay, this could be a great series and look forward to the next one. Pretty good character s, decent story line and I do recommend it. Will start second one later today.
Lawrence has again created a great story with a new hero. Several parallel plots and good characters. As always the author maintains his adherence to factual background details. The only problem is that it was too short, but Lawrence leaves room for the next book in the series
