A Paranormal Women's Fiction (PWF) that's breaking all the rules!
Lenore Frost is on the verge of retirement in sunny Miami when her employer suddenly folds, leaving her flat broke—and longing for revenge on those who walked away with millions.
When a last-ditch attempt at witchcraft leads to a mysteriously powerful silver key, Lenore discovers that the road to retribution runs through a new and dangerous world of magic… and she’ll have to reopen old wounds to master the power she’s learned to crave.
Better to live one day as a tiger than a thousand years as a sheep.
This story was previously published as "Crow's Feet and Capers" in the limited-edition anthology Girdles and Ghouls. It can be read as a standalone, but is best enjoyed after Silver Charms, book two in the Midlife Elementals series.
Lenore has just been cheated out of her retirement and all the money in her bank account by the big wigs in the company she works for. In a fit of anger she goes home and tries out some magic. With an old key and several magic books she works an old magic and goes after the people who cheat her. A really different kind of story from a whole different kind of point of view.
Silver Shadows has a solid plot and a compelling main character. Normally I would have given it 4 stars, but it only gets half that because it is only half a book. It ends mid-story with no wrap-up, conclusion, or delivery on all the interesting questions it poses. Not a standalone read.
The first three books were really interesting but this fourth book was confusing. It should have been between the third and fourth book. I enjoyed reading them because they were about older women. I gave this book 4 a three star rating because of the confusion and the fact that it seemed incomplete.
Dang the cliffhanger! I liked this read overall, but I do wish it had wrapped up the ends before the ending. This read was different than my normal go-to reads- I enjoyed a different perspective from an older character! She was confident in her actions, knows herself and her limits well, and is truly a no-nonsense witch. I wish Lenore was my grandmother!!
This is a great introduction to Lenore and her entrance into magic. I will definitely be weary of any miscellaneous old keys I may find! Lenore is just about to retire when the company she was working for completely folds. Lenore is determined to seek revenge. She digs out her sister’s old spell books and gets to work!
In book 2 Lenore was the bad guy. This novella is meant to be read between books 2 and 4. It goes back in time before the events in book 2 to explain why Lenore became a thief. Honestly, I feel for Lenore. If what happened to her had happened to me, I would be livid. Great book.
Good back ground story for Lenore it really establishes the reasons why she fights for her magic. Her reasons are valid and you get to know her as a person.
This was not a bad story but it is not self contained. It requires reading another book which I find annoying. This is book 4 of a series. Now I have to decide whether I liked it enough to continue.
