In the North Atlantic, a massive fissure in the sea floor has opened up, and an underground reservoir is releasing quadrillions of gallons of water into the oceans.
A dozen Naval ships investigating this strange anomaly are sunk, leaving one scientist and his daughter as the only survivors.
As unforeseen consequences spread from the anomalous rupture, those on both land and sea are faced with the reality that life in the world is rapidly changing as the current epoch ends… and a new one begins.
Epoch's End Book 4, Survive, continues the McKnight family saga, following the Apocalypse-like events they've experienced and witnessed first hand. Tom, daughter Sam and Smooch, their faithful Alsatian are reunited with Mom Barbara and siblings Linda and Jack, but their joyous greetings are short-lived, as Tom is forced by Lieutenant Colonel Banks to take part in a doomed attempt to reverse the anomaly, responsible for massive underwater eruptions that have ushered in a devastating new Ice Age. Keith and his co-conspirator Banks are determined to get revenge on the McKnights, for leaving them behind in a desperate escape bid. Will the antagonists triumph? Can the family escape being cast as scapegoats?

I understand literary license and suspension of beliefs but book four of this saga takes it to a preposterous level. I can’t comment specifically without revealing spoilers but the author forces a lot of things along that could not possibly have occurred.
Again there are a lot of editing issues in this book (the Ram is not made by Chevy, pronoun mix-ups etc). I'm still bothered that the military is depicted as just a bunch of thugs. They rough up the kids, beat an unarmed man (Tom), force people out of their homes then loot the homes, attack and destroy Mexico because...well the US needs that place now. Even the president feels a bit bad about it all, just not bad enough to do much beyond shrug. Banks is beyond unhinged, yet she, a lieutenant colonel with numerous failures on her account, has complete control over the attempt to close the rift. No oversight on her methods...nothing. I made it this far but am still far more interested in the actual anomaly and not crazy Banks and Keith (though I hope they see justice).
This book is a Apocalypse/Thriller! There's a Psychopath hunting a family with trained unit's. This nut has the military PAYING him and his team. The military officer that is in charge is Crooked as can be ! It is the 1st story I read where Our country Is Being pushed back into the ice age. The family was doing pretty well Considering what they've been through so far. But they stuck together, worked, played, continues to love each other and Decimated there enemies.
Because these books come out so weirdly it would seem, you get involved in book one of let’s say Epochs book one, and then another one comes out book one in a different story, and you have to forget what you just read, because you’re getting into another story. I’m kind of getting them all confused in my head especially since they all have the same kind of names. Why I put winner quatation marks is because of course the heroic family in this story always comes out on top. You can bet on it.
The McKnights family have been through a lot being separated. Barbara, Linda and Jack at home defending their small farm from looters, Linda and kidnapped by the military, but Barbara found them and brought them home. Then Keith shows and kills their neighbors and kidnaps Barbara and the kids. Meanwhile Tom and Samantha are making their way home under difficult conditions as there is blizzards dropping tons of snow.
Worse than the weather are the two military nuts, their mission, and their tendency to use people up and throw them away. t he wholE past mission Tom was on in Russia seemed like filler though a lesson in how the best of our soldiers are wasted on losing missions. The frozen masses are starting to become noticed. keep finding no win situations and add more people.
Its kind of a slog by now. I just want them to get a win, I don't even like any of the family to be honest. They killed off all the interesting characters. Or better said, the one interesting character.
The medic is kind of a light in the dark, I like her. But all in all this shouldnt be three more books. What are they going to do in that time, more losses? They dont even have anything anymore. And if they lose the dog I will riot.

Still like the characters of McKnight and his family. The bad guys are becoming way too unrealistic though. Keith and Banks are almost cartoonishly unbelievable in their abilities to pursue Tom and his family. Kraus normally does a better job of keeping characters believable. Hoping things improve in book 5.
The nonstop challenge of survival in this episode kept me turning pages late into the night. The ultimate need to head south to survive the coming ice age is so well crafted by Mike. I just goes to show that Mother Nature is not something to screw with.
Wow!! Wow!! Wow!! I finished Retreat today and dove right into Survive !!! I'm a speed reader so I read Survive in 4 hours. I will have to start book 5 tomorrow because hubby is home from work. Once again, an outstanding book! Every book gets better and better.. Thank you Mike!
Once again Mike Kraus has done it. When too much water, from a fissure in the ocean opens up, there’s plenty of danger. Only two survive from all the capsized boats. Fast reading to try and find out what happens. Can’t wait for more.
A good series, lots.of good guy, bad guy and a family done wrong by members of the government. Makes you want the series to continue to find out what happens to the family trying to survive.
The anger and evilness of Keith and Banks persists against the family. Despite the anomalies, the weather getting colder and the movement south and earthquakes. Despite the freeze it’s getting Hot.
The first few books in the series had several editorial mistakes and typos (all reported). This book finally shows a much better progression of the plot and editing. Looking forward to the next one.
Gripping ! Riveting ! This story is full of intense and exciting moments. How much more can Tom and his family go through? Their enemies and the extreme weather conditions just adds so much to the storyline and continues to keep you well and truly hooked.
Lots of adventure. Some times too drawn out, but I couldn't stop reading. I believe there is! one more book not available yet. To be released soon. I will get it.
Mr Kraus is an excellent author. This series is proof of that. He grabs your attention at the very beginning and doesn't let go until he is through with you.
And Now, chewing my nails! Tom, Susan, and the kids just can't get a break! All the CRUD keeps nipping at their heels...BUT, THE LOVE, COMMITMENT, AND STRENGTH OF FAMILY PREVAILS!!
