Magnus arrived in the Arctic for severe-weather training overseen by an international joint task force run by the military brass but something is not right there. Dr Sydney Jenkins is the only doctor there and is part of the British team but when she arrives she finds that all hell is breaking loose. Her medical clinic is being targeted, men are missing, and accidents which shouldn’t happen. Magnus feels a need to protect Sydney even though he should be concentrating on the problems there is a need for him to listen to his heart and protect Sydney but she is not sure who to trust and now is a time for neither of them to make a mistake.
I really enjoyed the start of this new series by the author. The location of the Arctic with its harsh weather was a great setting for this mystery as Magnus and Mountain tried to work out what was going on before someone else went missing or was killed. I loved the way that Sydney worked and that she was a lot more careful than appeared on the surface. I liked the way that everything was clearly described and I could feel as if I was there experiencing it with them. Easy to read, feel and understand. Contains just a little mature content at the end.

A military mission in a remote frozen landscape goes terribly wrong.
People are going missing and Magnus is sent in to figure out what’s going on.
Magnus Moureaux entered the large snow-covered building, shaking the snow off his hood and his shoulders.
As always this author writes a suspenseful edge of you seat mystery. A little bit of romance at the ending rounds out this crazy snow covered adventure.
She nodded, then smiled, flipped back the blankets. “So, you might as well get in and cuddle tonight too.” He hesitated. “You know what? I’m not sure I have enough control to make it just a cuddle.”

What a great start to a new series.
A few familiar names as supporting characters are an added bonus. A lot of mystery, intrigue and danger made this a real page turner. Great characters and story! I look forward to the next novel in this series.

Magnus joins Mountain to search out what is going on in Artic training center and hunt for missing members. When he arrives he realizes that the sole doctor is in lots of trouble. Sydney's clinic is in the mix of trouble going on at the training facility. She accepts the help Magnus offers. A great new series. I volunteered to read this book via booksprout.

This is the first book in a new series by Dale Mayer. A shadow recon team is sent to investigate accidental deaths and missing men during joint military training. When Magnus arrives, he meets Sydney, the doctor at the clinic. She tells Magnus that the clinic has been bugged and drugs are missing. Protecting her becomes his priority. While the book solves the drug thefts at the clinic. I am looking forward to the next book of the series to find out who’s behind the missing men and murders.

Excellent read with plenty of action, suspense and a who done it mentality. Someone is killing military personnel from different nationalities who are training in the artic. Mountain's brother is missing and Magnus is selected to go undercover up there to find out what's going on. Hang on to your seat for this slippery ride. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

We've been getting hints on this series for quite a while and it's finally here!!
What we know so far is that there have been 3 incidents, 2 deaths; one Russian and one from the German SEAL team both deemed accidental. The third incident is Mountain's brother, Teegan Rode, disappearing. According to Mountain, Teegan had evidence that those deaths weren't accidental at all. Now they have to get a team into the Artic and attached to this Artic training program without attracting attention to what they are doing outside of the norm.
When Magnus arrives, there are two more men missing, Terrance Billings and a Russian so recently missing they don't know his name yet. It just makes the question of what's going on here far more urgent to figure out. Of course, finding Teegan is imperative as well, but he's been missing three days now and with a blizzard raging and the temperature it's really not safe to be outside very long.
Mountain is already there, and they've worked out how to communicate without drawing suspicion. The first person we sort of meet in this hostile environment is Jesse who's seems to have been here awhile. Next is Dr. Sydney Jenkins, she is the only doctor on this base and as she inquires as to how he's feeling having been outside for so long, she also sneaks in a word about missing medications. Just what they need more mystery.
Sydney also has a bug detector that she sweeps the clinic every time she enters. Mountain gave it to her after he found a bug and now she's wondering what is so important about the clinic that it had been bugged.
We get a look at the sled dog's enclosure and meet Joe their trainer, handler and owner. Magnus has already made an impression on some of the dogs. I can picture them crowding him for attention.
Mountain is paired with someone he knew under a different name and thought was on medical leave. Seems his name is Salmo but he'd been called Selly previously. We get to see the Scientist's camp with these two.
As we hear more grumblings about something going on, no one can actually say what it is. It's more of a feeling than anything else. Then there's another kitchen fire and two men are brought to the clinic for burns.
There's also a lot of gossip that revolves around the women here. According to her nurse Joy, Sydney has managed to get a reputation of being standoffish since she doesn't fraternize with anyone.
All of this and there's so much more going on in the background as we meet people, investigate the missing drugs and look for missing men.
Not a lot of action, but more than enough intrigue and plenty of suspense as well as a surprise or two. There's also the friendship that turns romantic with Magnus and Sydney.
I really can't wait for the next book in this series!

This is the first book in a brand new series by Dale Mayer. She creates a
fascinating story that will hook you from the moment you start reading this book.
To increase the excitement factor, the author skillfully combines two mysteries into each book. One of them is the long-term mystery that will carry over throughout the entire series. Each individual book also contains a smaller mystery that will be solved by the end of the book.
Mangus and Dr. Sydney Jenkins are part of an international joint task force. Multiple divisions of the military from multiple countries have come together to take a severe weather training program in the Arctic. Unfortunately, their hope for peacefully working together is disrupted by serious problems.
One problem is that the Arctic is currently experiencing an unusually severe blizzard. Thus it is almost impossible for anyone to safely work outside. Some men are already missing when the story begins. To make matters worse, some of the trainees have been injured by unexpected accidents. Are all of these accidents? Or is someone attempting to kill the trainees? This is the long-term mystery that continues throughout the series. Readers will not find out the answers to these problems until the very last book
The secondary plot involves Mangus and Sydney. Sydney discovers that someone is secretly entering her clinic and stealing drugs. No one knows who, but Sydney is getting blamed for it. Sidney’s problems are solved by the end of this book. This gives the reader some closure and satisfaction in spite of the cliffhanger at the end..
This absorbing page-turner is filled with non-stop action and riveting suspense. The characters are baffled by these different mysteries. At first, they do not realize that these are two separate issues. Also the author cleverly confuses her readers when she gives out false clues and creates a lot of obstacles that make it difficult for the readers to solve the mysteries.

Wow, what a brilliant start to Dale Mayer's new "Shadow Recon" series, made even better by the reintroduction of old friends from previous series.
Mountain Bear Rode was on a mission to find his missing brother, navy SEAL Teegan Rode.
Teegan was part of a multinational team doing severe weather training in the Arctic.
Something was hideously wrong at the Arctic compound, there was a bad atmosphere that was practically palpable, three men, one Russian, one German and Teegan had disappeared, missing presumed dead, killed by the severe arctic weather, Mountain didn't believe this, he was to head Shadow Recon, a new covert ops team, his first undercover help was to be ex navy SEAL Magnus Moureaux.
Dr. Sydney Jenkins was part of the British team and ran the medical centre, the medical centre was being targeted, was it anything to do with the missing men ? When it became evident that Sydney was also in danger Magnus made it his job to protect her but could she trust him ? Magnus was attracted to Sydney but he couldn't let himself become distracted.
Rumours , inuendoes and fear spread through the compound when a death occurred, who could Magnum trust, could Sydney be involved ? were they being targeted from the inside or the outside ?
The author paints a brilliant picture of the biting blizzards and the extreme cold, there is plenty of action and nail biting suspense, this story has an HEA for Magnus but there is far more to be heard from Shadow Recon and I can't wait to read Rogan's story.

Dr. Sydney Jenkins enjoys adventure so here she is in the Arctic. She signed up as the only physician for the Joint Task Force of an Arctic Ice Training program. She’s a Brit but this is a multi-national program that includes Americans, Russians, Swiss, British, and Germans among others. After a few weeks of calm, mysterious things start happening; drugs are missing...then people disappear...and then people start dying. Shadow Recon has been dispatched led by Mountain Bear Rode and Magnus Moureaux. In secret, they are investigating all the mysterious events including Mountain’s now-missing brother Teegan.
This story is filled with non-stop confusion, mysteries, mayhem, and arctic storms. The BAD GUYS could be anyone! Dr. Sydney gets PULLED into the middle and has been attacked several times. Magnus has taken a liking to Sydney and is protecting her as best as he can and in the end, Magnus and Sydney do acknowledge they have a future. There is so much happening and so many people involved that sometimes I was a little confused. “The End” is nowhere near the end of this story though. In "MAGNUS" Book 1 you never actually learn... who is responsible… the why …and… the where is missing, so stay tuned for book 2 for more answers. I received a free advanced copy from Booksprout and am leaving my opinion of the story. Linda

This is book one in The Shadow Recon series and it is Magnus and Sydney’s story. When a military joint task force from different countries goes to the Arctic to upgrade their skills things start happening that seems very suspicious and the missing men are piling up but who and why is this happening. Magnus has arrived in the arctic to go undercover as one of their team is missing and they need to find him and the other missing men before things get worse or anything else happens. Sydney is a doctor and loves adventure but when she arrives in the arctic as part of the team everything is not what it seems and she is concerned for her safety as the clinic is being targeted, men are missing and accidents are happening making her feel like she is in danger and she doesn’t know who to trust. What a great start to a new series and a hang on the edge of your seat action, suspense and drama and I couldn’t put it down and the attraction between Magnus and Sydney was really strong but they both needed to put aside how they feel and both concentrate on their jobs and not get distracted but that is easier said than done and after they solve the mystery will they have a future together, we’ll only time will tell what the outcome will be for them all. I definitely recommend you read this book and you will not be disappointed and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

Magnus & Sydney
Holy cow what an excellent start to this new series! Right away I was excited to dig into this story with the remote location and all the possibilities surrounding the Arctic, new characters and new scenarios it could reveal.
I immediately loved Magnus, his protectiveness of Sydney and his powerful personality. Mountain is also a huge personality and a guy with a specific mission. He has a lot to lose and also a lot to gain in this outpost and I hope we get to unravel his story in more detail later.
Sydney is an island in a very troubled sea. It’s a shame men think with their lower head when they get bored or are in a remote area and the basic creature comforts are out of their reach. I think Sydney showed great maturity and professionalism in the face of potential danger to her personal self. She is not the after-hours entertainment and I give her high praise for taking a stand and facing the jerks!
This story is full of mystery, danger and murder. It has more questions than answers right now, but the lead-in is fantastic and very exciting. The location is intriguing in itself and I can’t imagine living in such inhospitable weather for any length of time. I’m ready to get into this series and can’t wait for the next book!

Magnus arrives at a severe weather training facility deep in the arctic on a mission. There's been a lot of trouble at this remote compound which has multiple countries represented so the source of the trouble needs to be found. But after meeting Sydney, the lone doctor, Magnus realizes that she need protecting and his heart won't let him do anything else. Sydney was a last minute replacement for the position and thought it would be a great experience and a way to learn something new. But then serious trouble started such as missing men and strange accidents. She's not sure just who she can trust. Hopefully, Magnus is one of the good guys as mistakes could prove to be dangerous.
This is the first book in a new series and, boy, what an incredible start! I loved Magnus and Sydney, both as individuals and as a couple. This captivating story immediately drew me in, keeping me hooked throughout. It has action, mystery, intrigue, and suspense along with a slow burn romance. It's a definite must-read.
Dale Mayer has long been a favorite author in the paranormal genre with her Psychic Visions series so when this new series came out, I wanted to try it and I'm very glad that I did. I truly enjoyed this book and am eager for the next one. I highly recommend Magnus.

There was so much going on in this book. People missing, getting killed, getting shot at, or kidnapped. It seemed to be non-stop action weaved throughout this mysterious romantic suspense book.
I liked the way Magnus and Sydney's relationship developed. It wasn't instalove, but an initial attraction that grew out of proximity. I liked that Sydney's character is strong, independent, and intelligent.
I had my suspicions about a character and my suspicions ultimately came to fruition. That took care of one aspect of the mystery, there were a number of issues left to resolve. The initial reason Magnus and Mountain were sent to the training camp was still somewhat unresolved.
I was surprised about that. Technically, I don't know if this qualified as a cliffhanger because questions were left unanswered, but I consider it a cliffhanger because I don't have answers to the initial issue. I am looking forward to the next book. Cliffhanger or not, Magnus was definitely a good read that kept me up way too late.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book received via Booksprout.

What a great start to this series. It is filled with missing persons, deaths (accidental or murder?), break ins at the clinic, and missing drugs. Then add in the severe weather at the camp's location which makes it difficult to go out and search for the missing persons. Oh, and with everyone being stuck inside rather than being able to go and do their artic training, you have a set up for a lot of rumors, suspicions, and fear to take place.
This is one of those series where you will want to read the books in order to get the fullest experience of the characters and storyline. In this book, Magnus is sent to the camp to work undercover but with it being a small camp, it's only a matter of time before others suspect he's investigating events. Dr. Sydney Jenkins is a British doctor who volunteered to go to the camp but little did she know was in store for her.
There are so many layers to this story and while one mystery gets solved, more questions also raised. There are many interesting characters, plenty of suspense, and definitely some surprises along the way. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Excellent and nail-biting start to a new series. Set in a freezing arctic during blizzard storms including whiteouts. A mix of military units from all over the world on ice training excerise, however the storms have put a stop to most of that. People are missing or dead, the clinic seems to be the focus of something else underhand and the poor doctor is front and centre of the danger. Magnus is just one of the people sent in to investigate the goings on. But he finds his main task is looking out for the doctor. Attraction is there but neither feel the the time is right so focus on solving the threats. This is well written, great pace and flow, fabulous characters and setting. The plot is suspenseful with plenty of action and lots going on, very easy to get hooked and lost in reading. It doesn't have a complete ending as it continues into the next book with two more added characters to lead that segment. But we do get one issue resolved and a partial HEA so it's not a complete cliff hanger ending. Enjoyed it immensely.

(4.5) I have been waiting for this series ever since I was reading the snippet in the back of Dale Mayers other books. I am happy to say I was not disappointed. This is book 1 in the start of the new series and ground work has to be laid, which did cause a little confusion, we have a huge cast. There will be a thread or mystery that runs through out the series, but each book will have a couple who has a HEA and a bit of the mystery, or some thing is revealed. Magnus (Shadow Recon) takes place in Alaska. Yes! There are sled dogs. Yes! There are a lot of people, twists and turns and the only ones you know for sure are the good people are Magnus, Dr Sydney Jenkins and Mountain. Mountain is who started this mystery (yes, is dad named him Mountain) as his brother was part of this international team and has gone missing. Not just his brother and there have been accidents. I am so on board with this series I am ready for book 2, Rogan. Thank you for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions! #Magnus #shadowrecon #dalemayer #valleypublishingltd #booksprout

I really enjoyed reading this story . It's full of action and suspense . I was on the edge of my seat with the twists and turns . This is such an intense story . Lieutenant Commander Mason Callister is task to build a team to slip into the joint training mission held in the Artic . Several men have went missing and two men died . The higher-ups want answers . Magnus Moureaux is one of the men along with Mountain Rode Mason chooses for Shadow Recon . Mountain is chose as the leader . Upon arrival Magnus finds that another man has went missing .
As Magnus and Mountain investigate there's trouble in the clinic when someone breaks in and drugs go missing . Dr. Sydney Jenkins finds herself in danger as things unfold and Magnus finds himself stepping in to protect her . As they spend time together the situation gets more intense .
Magnus and Mountain find more is going on then they originally thought . This story is outstanding . I highly recommend taking the time to read .

What a great start to a new series. A well-written story with interesting characters. It is full of mystery, suspense and murder. When men start disappearing, it’s time to call in The Mavericks. But a series of blizzards make it impossible to search for the missing men.
Magnus is sent to the Arctic training camp to investigate the disappearance of two men. But the weather has put a stop to everything. When the doctor gets assaulted, he assigns himself to keep her safe. Magnus has taken a liking to Sydney. Will he be able to protect her from the unknown?
Sydney is the British doctor at the training camp. She volunteered to go, but it seems she has bitten off more than she can handle. First, her clinic is broken into and then she is kidnapped. Magnus feels responsible and refuses to leave her side. She reluctantly accepts his help. Now if they can unravel the mystery, they can both go back to their lives.

Magnus by Dale Mayer
Shadow Recon Series Book One
Magnus Moureaux is sent on a mission to the Arctic through Mason. An international training camp to help unite countries as their militaries practice war games together. Only now, two men are dead, two injured, and two are missing. One of the missing men is Mountain Rodes’ brother, Teegan.
Dr. Sydney Jenkins isn’t sure what’s going on at this camp. But now, her clinic is being targeted as well. Someone is trying to steal drugs. Sydney isn’t sure who she can trust, but after calling Mason, he assures her that Magnus and Mountain are good guys.
More things are happening with no answers. As one thing is solved in this book, others are not. It looks like a thread will continue through the series as it did in the author’s other series. Looking forward to them!

This is a great start for the new series. Arctic setting with a mix of countries working on a joint task force consisting of mostly men and suddenly some are missing. Plus the doctor is a woman amidst all these men which is complicating things and the person sent to unravel the mystery is (you guessed it) a man. What else could you ask for? Mystery, possible romance and arctic cold.
I'm looking at the snow in our back yard as I write this and realize this probably made me a bit more sympathetic. Either way it is a great story which I will no doubt read again. This book did not resolve all issues presented in the beginning but there was enough solved to provide satisfaction and hope that all might be right. All of this is making me look forward to the next story.

I am so excited this series has started after it being hinted at when we met Mountain in The Mavericks Book 18, now we finally get to see Mountain getting the help from a team slowly coming into the fold starting with Magnus. I loved Magnus who has the perfect balance of gentleman and alpha and the connection that slowly burns between he and Sydney, the only doctor at their base in Antarctic. There are a couple of stories interwoven together that draw you in, not only wanting to know what happened to Mountain's bother, who appears to be targeting Sydney, the romance between her and Magnus along with what else is going on at the base. This was a page turner and I am desperate for the next book to see what happens next!!!.

I'm a big fan of Dale Mayer, so I'm super excited with this new romantic military suspense series, and this one is a great start.
What I like:
- it's atmosperic, it's set at the arctic where when the storm hit, nobody can get out or get in, so the suspects definitely close and it's definitely upped the ante. I can feel the suspense and the chill.
- the mystery, there's kidnapping, missing person, accidents here and there, and a lot more. This book has great premises.
- the dogs, many artic dogs, so what's not to like, right?!?
- Magnus, another alpha hero to admire.
- the romance, it's pretty cute, it's not love at first sight, so I love it more, I love how the romance developed.
What I don't like: too many repititions, so it felt dragging sometimes and a bit annoying.
Recommended: yes if you're looking for a fast-paced romantic military suspense.

When Magnus joins Mountain in the Arctic to investigate missing military men and deaths in a training facility, he doesn’t expect to be attracted to the Dr, Sydney, who happens to be having problems of her own in her medical clinic. Sydney doesn’t know who to trust and she has her own contacts with the US military and uses them when Magnus seems to have volunteered to be her protector. Now the two of them have to figure out what is happening with the thefts, break ins, missing men, and a murder before the two end up in the deep freezer themselves.
A good read and a good start to a new series, with twists and turns, surprises and some answers still not figured out but hopefully will as the series progresses. Hope to see more of Magnus and Sydney throughout the series.

This is book 1 in a new series by Dale Mayer and tells the story of Magnus and Sydney. There have been accidents, deaths and disappearances at the Arctic training center and Magnus and others have been sent to determine the reasons for these incidences. Sydney, the only doctor on the premises, is having her own problems with thefts of powerful medications and assaults. Together they will work to solve the mystery.
Book 1 lays the foundation for the series. As such, many characters are introduced and details of everyday life at the training center are explained. The story flows well and the reader gets a sense of the fear permeating throughout the center as the problems multiply. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Note: not all things are resolved in book 1. There is an underlying issue that carries into the next book.

I love the pairing and the location! It's such a thrilling story and place to find out what's going on while keeping warm and safe.
From the beginning something about Joy was niggling in my mind but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. And all of the incidents happening one after another. All I could do was hold on for the ride as the wave flowed on through.
As pieces fell into place, I found their romance endearing. I felt upset when the others on base would sneer about women on board or smirk about their relationship but I got that things would be tense in such confined quarters.
And the fact that Mountain's brother still hasn't been found is what keeps me on the edge of my seat.

This story introduces a new series that promises to keep the readers coming back for more.
Dr Sydney Jenkins is in the Arctic as part of a Joint Task Force with individuals from around the world and ends up encountering more than what she expected or wanted.
Meanwhile, Shadow Recon members Magnus Moureaux and Mountain Bear Rode have been dispatched to the Arctic when people seem to be disappearing or dying.
The story is action packed filled with bad guys, hunky good ones, nail biting moments , and of course , romance.
Never a dull moment from beginning to end.
Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Brand new thrilling series from Dale Mayer. Magnus is undercover investigating disappearances and deaths of military men at an Artic severe-weather training camp hosting an international group of soldiers. Is all this just accidental or is there a darker reason for what has been happening? In the middle of this is Dr. Sydney Jenkins, she has no clue why she's at the epicenter, but Magnus is determined that nothing will happen to her. Great exciting story and mystery with a whodunnit feel. Looking forward to the next book.

When I started reading this book, I expected to read the first two chapters and then go to sleep. But... Around 3 in the morning I fell asleep while hugging the kindle and next day I lived and breathe this book until the last page of the book and then I wanted to re-read all over again. I should have expected that a book written by the talented Dale Mayer that it would do that to me! This book is the 1st book of the Shadow Recon series and it didn’t disappoint even in the first chapter. Let me just say .. I am VERY excited for this series and once you read this book you will be too!! Well done on another fantastic and amazing book. I absolutely loved it. Happy reading everyone.
