I don’t know why I expected different from this book after having to stop the first. He’s met his mate and still is wondering if there’s time to screw the blonde maid on the way to the other kings dinner in the carriage. Even worse he wanted to screw her with the boner he got from talking to his mate. How a disgusting is that ?!? He just needed any woman according to him. What a prize!!! Nottttt. These men suck and are not worthy of their mates AT ALL! It makes me sick. This series is clearly not worth reading with unworthy males. Once they meet their mate they should be turned off by all other women even if they don’t realize it’s their mate. So this was a insult to all paranormal mate romances. How can I read about about him and Marianne when he just wanted to screw another woman right after talking to her. How does that inspire romance? Sick

This is book two of the Fire and Ice series and the main characters are Rage, real name Bravadic Arman, and Queen Maienne, a sorceress who had been married to his half-brother and King, Magnik. Rage was given his nickname for the rages that would overcome him when his dragon took over, the first time when he was thirteen, being when he had been told the truth of his parentage, on the day Magnik became king. He had been out of control and so angry about the secret behind his parentage that his mother had hidden from his all his life, that his dragon laid waste to half the village before collapsing in the forest. He had shifted much earlier than others in the village and was also the strongest amongst them, apparently partly due to his parental line coming from royalty! The next time he lost control in a similar way, was at age eighteen, when he saw Marianne pass by with Magnik, as he showed her off to the masses. Now he is being crowned as king himself, after Magnik’s death, and he worries about her being at the ceremony, as he doesn’t know how his dragon will react to her!

After the coronation ceremony, he meets King Stavrok and his human wife, Queen Lucy, from the neighbouring kingdom. He makes an immediate ally with Stavrok, going to dinner with him and his wife, in their castle the next day. They both knew Marienne and advise him to find her a place in his court, with perhaps a home on the outskirts, due to her being part of the old king’s reign and would be a reminder of what he did and how he reigned! Rage doesn’t want to be king, having been brought up in abject poverty, but with love from his recently deceased mother. He soon learnt about the riches his half-brother had gathered from his less well-off people, leaving them in poor conditions, while he basked in riches and luxury in his castle. Rage has also inherited many of his former king’s staff and advisors, leaving him buried in unknown terminology and facts. Marienne was treated differently throughout her youth, due to her powers as a sorceress and she was chosen as King Magnik’s bride only because of her powers. He used her to gain as much power and wealth as he could and treated her as a tool, not a wife. Never for who she was as a person, but for what she could do for him. She led a pretty separate life from Magnik for most of their marriage, especially after it became clear she would never be able to provide an heir for him!

Marienne turns up at his dinner with Stavrok and Lucy, which causes him to lose control over his dragon yet again, and he has to fly away before he ruins his ally’s castle! She has a vision of them together in the future and in what seems happy times, but it is another vision that has her worried. She knows that Rage is her fated mate, but it is something only his dragon seems to be aware of, not his more human side. Her vision of holding a dying Rage in her arms, while the castle and his people are destroyed and dying all around them, has her concerned. She knows that the threat is coming from the King of Winter, Damon, and insists on accompanying him to this far northern kingdom, that no one has ever seen. Why this king wants to target their kingdom is a question they will only answer, the further north they travel. But they soon find out that things are very different than her vision showed her, with lots of agony on view as they see what has happened to the Northern Kingdom and its people. It seems that fathers and former kings, can leave a kingdom in a bad state, all in their wishes for power and wealth at all costs! Her visions may give her a view of what is to come, but the future is not set in stone and she can only hope her vision doesn’t leave her without Rage in her arms and her heart! Nothing is quite what it seems about their new foe and you can only hope they all manage to survive to reach a new future together. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Second Time Through

So like 6 months ago I read books 1-5 or 6. And only the reviews for the first and last book got posted. I had issues reading them the first time so I took a break and read other things.

If you are following my reviews, you will see what I’ve been reading since then. So now I’m back and the it’s like I remembered except one part, but that doesn’t change anything.

Before I start listing all its sins, know that the meat of the story is good, it’s the relationship around that is what I have issues with.

First off, the sorceress I believe was meant to show that she had trauma and baggage from her first marriage - oh sorry. There will be spoilers. But you should have read the first book and this tidbit is not a secret. But I believe she was written poorly in that aspect.

So instead of talking to the man who is the mate to her soul, and explaining one or two things or asking him anything to see what he knows or find out how he feels, she just assumes things that never crossed his mind or lips.

Also, how the heck did she go from her room, where he left her, hiding behind her door to just showing up miles and miles away in another kingdom? We are slightly lead to believe that she somehow arrived by magic due to all the theatrics we are shown, but we aren’t told either way and it’s never brought up again.

That would be one nifty trick that could have really been used during this story.

At least give us a flashback of what changed her mind. Because almost right after she made this change to show up to a dinner she told him she won’t be attending, she seems to give into what was going on between them, that she has been hiding from him btw, to then do that weird thing of imagining what he’s thinking and pulling away from him without say why.

That goes on for longer than I would like and there is no freaking reason why. And she had the vision saying that they would be together and that is the part of the vision
she doesn’t think twice about and pushes to the side while the rest of story runs on the other part parts of the vision.

Yes, I have issues with her. Well, how she was written actually. They could have been together from the get go, minus a day or so. Then they could have been a team working on all their problems together. She could have been in the meeting with him and they could have backed each up. He could have been there for her when she went to find out more about her vision. Some external force could have caused them issues or situations where they learn new stuff about each other or even themselves. In lieu of this “we can’t be together because of (blank)” nonsense.

The rest of the story is pretty good. But a question occurred to me this time around. Why would debt collectors kill off a whole kingdom? They spent money on the manpower and they won’t have anyone to finish paying off what was owed.

And who are these people anyway? If they were his subjects how are they able to pull this off and why would they destroy their own kingdom?

I now have new questions, and I know they won’t be properly answered because I’ve read 5-6 books in.

There are some good moments in this story, but I’m not recommending that you all out buy this book like I did. If you have kindle unlimited go for it. It’s a short story and you may not think as badly of the story as I do other than her sudden appearance at the dinner.

I wholeheartedly request that the author gives this story a once over. I know that major things can’t be changed at this point, but fill gaps, explain somethings. Give a slightly better reason for them not being together earlier in the story.

Later.

The king is dead. The new king is dead. Long live Bravadic, otherwise known as Rage. He is the unprepared bastard son of a king who suddenly has to take over the kingdom. Raised in poverty, he doesn’t see that his upbringing gives him a better perspective of the kingdom’s needs. Luckily, he doesn't purge the castle of the old king's entourage, which includes the widow. Marienne is the fated mate, a former Queen and sorceress. She knows he is her fated mate, but she was closeted away like a favorite shirt that gained holes. In being released, she views Rage with skepticism, but it is the skepticism of one who sees rainbows and glitter. She sees him as strong, powerful, and obviously kingly upon her first look. I don't get it (because being strong makes you fit to be king?). As fated mates, they are bedazzled with each other.

Rage has seen her before, on the arm of his brother. Now that he is king he has a second chance. To be honest, the first part of the story lingers around their mutual insecurity and disbelief that either are worthy of love.

Halfway through the novel, the pacing changes. After a vision of war and destruction, Marienne claims that the Northern ices hold a threat, and they visit the ice dragon kingdom to see what evil is afoot. Surprisingly enough, the new king up there is beset by onerous debt, and the tax collectors have an army. Rage immediately pledges both his and his neighbor’s support. I am touched by his valiant innocence. This last year has been overwhelmed with media reports of hate crimes and pandemic. It is so refreshing to see a king so innocent that he can believe in reform, accords with other nations, and brotherly love among strangers.

There are subthemes that buck popular idioms: “Like Father Like Son”, “You cannot escape Death or Taxes”: except with war or revolution....And what kind of tax collectors bring wolves and dragons? I wanna know.

Two kings dead in succession? Rage should worry more. But this is a question unanswered. This could be a longer fairy tale, because the story leaves some questions unanswered. There could be less mooning over each other, and more nuances in the plot. But overall, this is a nice adult fairy tale.

Is this a good story? It is directed towards a reader who wants a traditional, 1950’s lifestyle, a large family, loving spouse, nice house, fairy-tale romance, and insta-love. I like more complexity in my stories, but this would make a nice titillating beach read. You get an HEA.

Steamy, sweet, shifter romance. Dragon shifter Rage was surprised when he found out he’s an illegitimate son of the king that died, when his half brother; the new king, dies as well, Rage finds himself as the new king. He’s unsure he’s the right man for the job, but he’s willing to give it his all. He’s a strong, fierce capable dragon! Rage has felt a pull towards his half-brother’s widow, Marienne, but he tries to deny it. Marienne was forced to marry the previous king because she has magical powers; the union wasn’t exactly happy. Marienne knows Rage is her mate, but doesn’t think he wants her. It was annoying that both Rage and Marienne wrongly read into things; they just cause more problems for themselves. Luckily, a bit of forced proximity help things along. Steaminess ensues! I was a little annoyed at Marienne for being pouty in the beginning, but I liked her strength with her magic. Also, I like that she’s willing to do whatever she can to help Rage. There’s some fun adventure when Marienne has a vision of death for Rage, so there’s dangerous situations the two have to deal with. Enjoyed the story; I like the writing style, and the intense connection between Rage and Marienne! Looking forward to reading about the next dragon finding his mate!

A KING FOR THE SORCERESS by Amelia Shaw is the second book in the Fire and Ice series by Amelia Shaw and starts shortly after the end of the first story.  Again, another well written and entertaining story that will captivate you from beginning to end.

Bravadic Arman has been crowned King of the Black Mountains following the death of his half-brother, King Magnik.

Queen Marienne, his half-brother's wife, is  now the Dowager Queen Marienne is unsure of her future. The one thing Marienne knows is that for the past five years she has known Bravadic is her mate. She was married and couldn't do anything then, now the people would never accept a mating between her and the new king.

When Marianne has a vision of Bravadic dying in a battle the castle and village in Flames. They join forces to try to prevent the coming disaster. But, if you see the future, can you really change it?

A great storyline with fast paced drama, action, twists and turns, passion and love.  Get ready to laugh and be entertained. This is a great start to a new series!

This second book in the Fire and Ice series is fantastic. There is action, danger, suspense, drama, and uncertainty when Bravadic, the illegitimate son of a dragon king ascends to the throne upon the death of his father, and then his half-brother. Bravadic, called 'Rage' because of an incident five years ago is completely unprepared for the position and he seeks the help of his brother's widow, Marienne. Marienne was wed to the late king because she was a sorceress, not for love. She is actually Rage's fated mate and was (unintentionally) the cause of the incident that gave him his name. Both Rage and Marienne are a bit wounded, and neither believes in their own worth. Their chemistry is hot, but does Rage dare to mate with the dowager queen? More challenges and danger arrive when Marienne has a vision of death and destruction, and she and Rage travel North in hopes of preventing what she saw. This is an exciting, fast-paced read. I enjoyed Rage and Marienne, and seeing the characters from the first book again, too. Great series, and I am looking forward to the next book.

This book is amazing! The second book in the Fire and Ice series and it's just as fantastic as the first. This time, it is the story of Bravadic, known as Rage, and Marienne. He is the half brother of the late King Magnik and she is the late King's widow. But their connection is deeper as she knows they are mates. He feels he is unworthy for both her and the crown but is almost immediately befriended by King Stavrok and his Queen, Lucy. This will come in handy when a vision of Marienne's will send them to the Northern Kingdom of King Damon, sure he is planning an attack. Once there, they will learn the truth and will pull out all the stops to bring Damon the help he needs to defend his kingdom. It will bring all of them closer together and will make Rage realize just how much he feels for Marienne. When all is said and done, Rage will feel that he has earned his place as King and Marienne will become the Queen she never felt she was.

Our hero never expected to be king, but then the unexpected happens. Now he and our heroine must both adapt to a new reality.

This is book two of the series. It works pretty well as a standalone. All the essential bits are explained early on.

This is a fantasy story. The story is well written and easy to read, although it takes a little bit to understand all the players. Speaking of which, the characters are well done with interesting and distinct personalities, including the occasional flaw which makes them a bit easier to accept. The plot is a little slow and full of angst in the early parts, but picks up the pace nicely for the second half. I really liked our characters and the story once they accepted things and moved forward. Overall, I found the story to be highly enjoyable and look forward to reading the other books in the series.

Highly recommended

This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. A King for the Sorceress by Amelia Shaw is the second book in the Fire and Ice series. Here is a fast paced, sexy read that is packed with amazing characters. While the story focuses on Rage and Marienne, I loved that Stavrok, Lucy, Cass and some of the other characters you meet in the first book (Taken by the Dragon) are also a part of this storyline. With a little Game of Thrones vibe, this story just gets better and better with each book added. Action, drama, love, angst and lots of misunderstandings combine to give a wonderfully rocky emotional story that sucks you in and will have your heart alternately squeezing and soaring. A great Mature Readers Only read that should be read in series order, but can easily be read as stand alone.

WE have sweet story of love that both parties think they are not worthy of. WE also have some fighting and not knowing what will happen. Rage is the son of the king, but is not acknowledge as his. His half brother is king and married to Marienne. They both see each other one day, but Rage has no Idea why his dragon is acting like it is and now the town people call hem Rage. Marienne knows what is going on but can't acknowledge it. Then her husband is killed and now Rage is back in the castle. What will they do? Can they control their feelings? Can they help what is to come? Will they be able to change how the kingdom is ruled?

Rage is the illegitimate son of the King he never knew. But now with both his father and his half-brother dead, Rage has become King. He has no experience and no friends, so he seeks help from his half brother's widow, Marienne, a Sorceress with visions. Marienne has known for 5 years that Rage is her Fated mate, but aside from feeling drawn to her, he does not realize that fact. The two of them have to go to the Northern Kingdom to talk to King Damon and find out if he is planning an attack. Instead, Damon their help to defend his kingdom.

Working with each other, Rage begins to feel that maybe he has earned the right to be King. Perhaps now he deserves his rightful Queen. Will he ask Marienne to be his?

Rage becomes king but has no knowledge of how to rule then Marienne is another matter.
Rage has just been crowned King Bravadic but as the son of a village woman who was never acknowledged he has no experience of how to rule. He had never met his father and had only found out when he was thirteen when he died. He had been so angry that he had changed into his dragon for the first time and burnt the village market place. His brother the late King he had seen once with his wife Marienne and his dragon had reacted to the queen and he had changed and flown off. Now she was somewhere in the castle and was now a widow but would she want a low born King.

4.5 stars. Both lead characters have an inferiority complex, which leads them to believe they are not sufficient for the other lead. But their relationship and character development is beautiful and I really enjoyed how they discovered their complementary traits and characteristics.

The story is dual POV, well written and edited, with steamy hot scenes that set the pace for an energetic story. The overarching storyline is beautifully woven through with the setup for the next story leaving me panting with impatience!

Book two in the series, it’s not necessary to read the previous but it did help when the characters in this story interacted with the characters from the first.
Rage becomes king after his half-brother is killed. Marienne is not really sorry that her husband is dead as she knows Rage is her true soul-mate.
The story is quite different from the first but just as interesting. My criticism is the same - the book could have been longer and explored more of their relationship and some parts could have been more descriptive.

A King for the Sorceress

This is the story of Marienne and Erik. We met her in book one as the sorceress wife of king Magnik who was an evil, terrible person. All she wanted was a husband and family. She had actually met him years earlier. He’s the bastard half-brother of her husband. But, when she sees him she immediately knows he’s her fated mate. The story continues as their relationship progresses and an alliance is formed with the king of the northern mountains. I won’t give away any more. The story is short and enjoyable. There are sexual scenes that may offend some readers.

This is book 2. It tells the story of Rage and Marienne. Bravadic Arman, Rage, became the new King of the Black Mountains after his half brother Magnik was killed. Marienne is a sorceress and was previously married to King Magnik. Rage and Marienne are fated mates. Together they go to the North to talk to King Damon. They discover things are not what they expected. This is a well written book and every bit as good as the 1st! I like that Rage is so much different than his half brother!

This very well written Book 2 in The Fire and Ice Book Series was an amazing Dragon Shifter, soulmates, paranormal love story with well-thought out scenes, characters, and storyline. These characters have strong wills, personalities and realistic interactions. This intriguing story has the following: twists, turns, adventure, action, steam and a HEA. It is a well-paced, dragon shifter book that will keep you engaged from start to finish. A must read

audiobook version Al
just pure horrible awful. Remind me of school when you first learned how to read and you got the emphasis all wrong, creepy, monotone , off the rails , irritating , boring and nerve racking,so very bad I can not stand listening. Those author now, want to be cheap and not invest money and what you get is crap. She has several of her books on YT. I started almost all of them and gave up. Just can not finish any of them.
So I will not even think about buying it.
I find it a damn shame for this way I will never know if the stories are worth it or not.

The second book in the Fire and Ice series a well written story that kept me turning pages. Rage and Marienne who are fated mates will have so much to get through as they try to overcome all the wrongs that have been done to their kingdom. They will also go to the aid of Damon, the King of Winter. I enjoyed reading this book and want to read the next one. When your fated mate is your late half brother's widow, how do you get past that? I loved Rage's and Marianne's story about overcoming the hardships of their lives to get their own HEA. Not everything is clear cut, even when your fated to be together. Settle in for a sweet romance with some battles and obstacles thrown in the way of the not so happy couple.❤❤❤

Great second volume to this series, although it can easily be read as a standalone. Even better than the first story. Rage and Marienne are both complex characters, with tons of flaws and qualities. Reading about them trying to get past issues and a general lack of communication is entertaining and enjoyable, cannot wait for the next installment.

Fated mates, all consuming love...what a book! These characters leap upon the pages in vivid detail, making them real and loved. Rage is the lowborn illegitimate son of the king, thrust into service by the death of his half brother King Magnik. Marianne is Magniks widow and a sorceress. Their lives become intertwined with intrigue but love as well. Great book that is worth every penny.❤️❤️❤️❤️
