She came to me when I needed her most, and it will kill me to let her go.

When my ship crashed on a long-abandoned planet, I barely survived. Before the ship’s computer failed, it rebuilt me, crafting my shattered body into a half-cyborg being. I’m a monster who’s barely living. With no way of escaping this ravaged world, I've resigned myself to spending my days fighting off the feral inhabitants until I lose my final battle.

Until she appears…

She brings sweetness and light into my dark, cold world. Her determination to return to her home keeps her going, and I’ll do all I can to make her dream come true. Then I discover there might be a way, but it means I’ll lose her forever.

The fates delivered her to me. Can I go back to being alone?

AVA ROSS fell for men with unusual features when she first watched Star Wars, where alien creatures have gone mainstream. She lives in New England with her husband (who is sadly not an alien, though he is still cute in his own way), her kids, and assorted pets, including a yorkie pup and three cats.

I didn't like this one as much as the first in the Shattered Galaxies series, but it wasn't bad. I just thought that there was not enough tension in the romance (tension not meaning conflict). Their relationship was thrown together so fast and I felt no excitement over what would happen between them. I'm glad others enjoyed this more!

Well written but serious plot issues.

Overall, I thought the story was well written but there was one main part of the plot that I couldn't get over that drove me nuts the whole time.

*Spoilers* - Male lead was stuck on a death trap planet for years and ignored an escape pod because it was supposedly too small for him to physically fit in. I'm not sure he even tried to, just glanced at it and said "yep, too small." Okay fine...

He held off telling the female lead about it once he found her because he didn't want her to leave him for Earth.....even though the pod couldn't travel that far anyway.

Why not stick her in it and send her on a rescue mission to his home planet and try and rescue them both? It's like this never occurred to him. The only options in his mind were her taking it and abandoning him on the planet for Earth (even though she'd have to stop somewhere else besides Earth anyway) or her staying stuck with him.

I could see the argument that his loneliness made him not want her to leave, but that means he was totally cool with the fact that they were both likely to die soon from the monsters chasing them everywhere. Even though he kept going on about wanting to protect her.

Even more obnoxiously, somehow at the end, they managed to squeeze the male and female leads and a cat into this supposedly *too small* rescue pod after a dramatic parting scene and with monsters chasing after them. WTF. At least make it more plausible. Like he finally trusted she wouldn't run off and abandon him so sent her off in it to get help or something. Don't completely obliterate the main reason he couldn't leave. You're telling me both of them could squeeze in there, but he couldn't pretzel himself in there before? I almost rage quit before finishing the book.

Simple and cute.

Pros:
-Strong and likeable heroine
-Gentle and loving ML
-Consensual Sex
-Survival elements/decent adventure
-Fluid writing
-ML has fun cyborg gadgets in bed (honhonhon)
-Their relationship was adorable

Cons:
-Insta love/lust
-Lacks worldbuild
-Some mysteries left unsolved (how did the penrots get there? What happened to the natives of the planet?)
-The romance lacks a bit of depth.

Overall, a decent ,short and simple unproblematic alien romance.

Had potential but didn’t make sense at the end

Our FMC is transported to a planet in the midst of some sort of zombie apocalypse and is rescued by the MMC. The falling in love is insanely fast, which I give leeway for because zombie apocalypse usually means life is short. The MMC has this whole wounded “no one will ever love me because I’m basically a robot now” thing going on and the FMC just turned 30 and we don’t know anything about her career, family, or life before the ravaged world besides her having bad luck with dating. And TBH, we learn almost nothing about the MMC prior to his time in the apocalypse. It made it harder to invest in the love story.
I just… I didn’t understand the ending of this book. The solution didn’t fit with what had been said repeatedly throughout the story.

Spice: 5ish scenes with alien anatomy

Triggers: violence and horror themes

I wouldn’t know how I would survive if I suddenly found myself in our h’s shoes. The H is literally her hero. I had no inkling how our MCs will survive this ravaged world or how they would find their own hea, but in the end, it is their love for the other that guaranteed their hea.

This is my second book in the series and the adventures of the MCs in the book made me curious how human resiliency and the power of love is depicted in each stories.

Beautifully written, one of my favorite alien~human couples

Sum: Sage just got stood up on a date, dressed in her hottest little red number and it’s freezing outside. Worse? Her phone is griping at her to update it, but like most of us, she puts it off for another time. Too bad the phone had other plans, it transports her to a different world altogether. Knave knows this world, has been stranded on it for three years, since his ship crashed and he was torn apart. Pieced back together by said ship, he is now half cyborg and just barely surviving the savage penrot beasts that have overrun this planet. Has the cure for loneliness been found with these two?

I really loved these two as a couple. While there is some instalove, I feel like our characters approached how one might in an “apocalypse” type situation.

They’re the only two on this whole planet (far as we know), and they make the best out of sticking together. While Knave clearly can defend himself, and use his new cyborg parts for intense climbing and jumping - he has only been barely getting by.

Insert Sage, while not the brawn type, she can only do so much to aid in their survival, but she is aware of this and at least offers what she can. To me, this doesn’t make her a weak heroine, but a strong one who knows her actual capabilities. Her brain and strategies help them on more than one occasion, and she found a way to bring joy to the same monotonous foods Knave had grown accustomed to.

While they did find near immediate attraction, the love was built (quickly) over trust in each other, bonding over an end-of-the-world type situation, and the friendship/kindness they were able to show each other.

It was action packed with some decent spice sprinkled in, and after reading as much as we do, sometimes scenes get boring or seem too similar to something else - even the authors realize and start cutting them down. However, I had one scene in this that was just super effing hot 🥵 🥵.

Overall? 5 🌟s
Plot? 4.7 💭
Spice? 4.8 🌶s
Char Dev? 5 for Knave 👽 and 5 for Sage 👧
Fave Char? the cat 🐈‍⬛ lol
Cheating? No
HEA? Yes
Series? Part of one, but can be read alone
Tropes? alien/human, stranded, dystopian, forced proximity, hero
Triggers? No, marked safe 🟢

O autor não me convenceu.

Aliviada. Estava cansada do hot ruim.

---

Bem, ainda estou lendo.

Review of Ravaged World
By Ava Ross

Edge of Your Seat Drama!

Knave is a tall green-skinned humanoid man with four arms and two hearts. He and two crewmates have crash-landed on a planet called Likair. He was very badly injured in the crash and the ship’s computer stitched him back together and added metal parts to replace those that didn’t survive the crash, thereby making him a cyborg. With its final burst of energy, the ship brought him back from the brink of death with a jolt through his hearts. Not knowing what had happened to his other two crewmembers, that left him alone to survive in a savage and ravaged world.

Sage, an earth woman, has been stood up for her third date with a guy. As she keeps checking her cell phone, she notices again that she keeps getting a text about updating it. This message is even stronger and advised that she “Must Update Now! However, the choice is suddenly taken from her in a flash of light and she finds herself slammed down hard upon a paved surface. A glance around tells her that she is no longer in Kansas, so to speak. A cluster of creatures from her wildest nightmare are hobbling toward her. When she made a noise, they started racing toward her.

Knave heard Sage’s scream and, having lived on this world for the last three years, he knew that the person who screamed had encountered the feral creatures he called penrots. He also knew he had to save that person. At first, Sage didn’t want him to approach her, but when she weighed him against the penrots, she made the smart choice to go with Knave.

This book is about two people surviving in horrible circumstances. The world building was terrific and you could feel how awful this world currently was. The character development is superb and the romance, while it happens sort of fast, is still tender and passionate. The drama was edge of your seat and I almost got heart palpitations just reading it! Altogether, this was a fantastic book!

I received a free copy of this book from the author, but this review reflects my honest opinion of her work.

My Rating: 5 Stars

💚 “I will always make it back to you, mate. You are my home. My everything. My only reason for existing.”
~~~
Knave is one phenomenal male! Crashing on a desolate planet, his body is broken and repaired by his ship’s computer before its power goes out. He sees himself as a scarred monster and is so incredibly lonely. I couldn’t help but admire his strength, resilience and determination to survive in such an inhospitable and dangerous world without giving up. Even more, Knave is so smart, resourceful, protective and thoughtful. I adored absolutely everything about him!
And there couldn’t be a more perfect female for him than Sage! She’s so caring, kind and compassionate. And I really loved that, despite being thrown into many unexpected and dangerous situations, she still remains optimistic and never loses hope. She’s such a wonderful woman and I loved her so much!
Everything that happened between Knave and Sage was amazing! From the moment they met, their attraction was undeniable but there was so much tension between them and both were hesitant to act upon their feelings. I loved how supportive they were of one another and really doing their best to survive in a dystopian hell. Even more, I loved that Sage easily saw beyond Knave’s appearance and with a gentle touch and sympathy managed to show him what a magnificent male he truly is. And when they finally gave in to their feelings, the passion they shared was scorching hot. With everything both have been through and the sacrifices they were willing to make, they more than deserved to find hope, acceptance and love with each other.
In addition, the worldbuilding and the storyline were absolutely spectacular! The planet was such a dark, inhospitable and dangerous place. And the penrot were so violent and vicious. But beauty and wonder could be found even in a nightmarish world.
Overall, Ravaged World is a marvellous story filled with so much emotion, adventure, danger, action, steamy romance and magnificent characters.
I couldn’t put it down and loved every single page of it!
Book #5 Crushed Dominion★★★★
Book #6 Broken Song ★★
Book #7 Destroyed Desire ★★★
Book #8 Jagged Honor★★
This is a step up in the series, so there is potential here yet. Ava Ross understood the assignment pretty well, so that gives me hope that there's a few solid gems in the overall series to make up for the fact that the first book fell really flat.
We're given two people who are both strangers on this dying world trying to survive, so the lack of details about it work alongside the narrative effectively and they're in circumstances that mean that the focus is on them being together and talking and working alongside one another. The beats of the story are character driven and focused. It all feels more personal and the stakes more tangible.
The reason why I personally can't rate it higher than a 3 is because it was just too much insta-love for me and I didn't find myself epecially invested--took me a few days to read it, which tells you my attention wasn't gripped. Sage and Knave are practically dripping in arousal and declaring themselves madly in love within a day of meeting one another. There's a lot to be said about the powers of bonding with someone in a survival situation; in a book, it can be shorthand for barriers being broken down--there's not a lot of room for social anxiety when you're worried about dying and need to rely on one another--but this was still quite fast, all things considered.
Still, it is serviceable for what it intended to do. The sex scenes were better executed, the world building and plot made more sense for the short standalone nature of the book, its focus was where it should have been, the writing is pretty solid, and it had a climax that worked well that was followed by a fluffy, happy little ending.
Good
A cell phone glitch, and suddenly Sage is stranded on another planet, far from home. She is rescued from savage skeletal creatures, by a four armed cyborg.
Knave has been stranded on Likair for years, his rescue of Sage provides him with the first companionship he has had for ages.
Sage only wants to go home, but how can she ever leave this male who is becoming so important to her.
As life becomes ever more dangerous for the two of them, it is a struggle for their very survival.
This is a quick read in this multi-author series, starring a misplaced human when a massive cell-phone glitch goes terribly awry.
It’s a fairly fast paced story, with lots of action and romance. Typical of Ava Ross, it’s an enjoyable romance with a scarred hero, and a woman looking for the right man, and the inevitable dangers and pleasures that come with being stranded on a hostile planet.
This is a great series, with individual stories by all the authors, linked only by the glitch.
Recommended for sci-fi romance fans.
This is the second book I've read in this series. I love that each story is set in a completely different environment with very different male leads. Sage is transported to a different world from some strange cell phone glitch after being stood up on her birthday. The planet is extremely dangerous, apocalyptic and overrun by feral penrots that hunt in packs. Knave is an alien whose ship had crash landed on the planet three years earlier. His body torn apart, the ship used the last of it's power to rebuild his body with mechanical parts and save his life. Completely alone on the abandoned planet, now he's just surviving until the day he loses his battle against the monsters. When he hears Sage's scream and rescues her, it gives him purpose and a determination to protect her. He was very lonely and dreaded the thought of her leaving him to return to her world if it was possible to do so. This was a fun read. I enjoyed it. 4 stars.
I found the idea of the story set-up very intriguing and it was talked about the lost civilization and stuff in great detail.
What I really liked was how palpable the terror of living on that planet was and how heartbreaking it was to send her away.
I found a few plot holes to be too glaring, and their love developed too quickly for my licking to give the book more than a few stars.
First, why not use the too small escape pod to send her to get help?
Second, how could the both of them and a "cat" fit in it when she alone couldn't even stretch out her legs and it touched her belly? Moreover, HOW could this work when he tried it alone and couldn't fit in it? And why the fuck did they decide to have sex in it. How would that work.
Third, how the heck could she accept his bite on that planet with the mentality: babies, heck yah💀wtf girly
Fourth, his computer could never learn her whole language by just hearing a few sentences
Four arms....four arms....and these other appendages, oh man, we didn't even know we needed these until now. I must say Ross always brings us to the right party because wowzer it hit all the right places. We had heart-pounding action and adventure with all the steamy top notch spicy romance.
Now the story was well paced, and flowed nicely. Knave, MMC, was caring, thoughtful and all alpha in all the good ways you want a man...ahem, alien to be. Sage has to the luckiest, she lands Knave, and unluckiest, she gets randomly transported. Now she has a strong character and has that never give-up attitude which plays well in this story. It most definitely comes in use.
I loved this story and how everything they did together was done as a team, it was beautiful, exciting at times but oh so worth it. Definitely a must read in my books!
This was quite the high octane/high stakes romance and I was sucked right in to see if Knave and Sage (and Fred ;P) could survive with overwhelming numbers of predators called penrots looking to make a meal out of them. The action and suspense were fab in this post apocalyptic setting and I was on the edge of my seat fretting over them somehow finding a way off planet. Whew! ...wipes brow... They did and I couldn't put this book down until I saw for myself that there really was an HEA in it ;D Expect a fairly 'insta-love' romance when you dive into this exciting story, but lets face it - when everyone is out to eat you, can run farther and faster than you, well, fast romance makes a whole lot of sense. Lol! I really liked both lead characters and am looking forward to checking out more stories in this fun multi-author series :D
Ava Ross has never let me down. Along with five other authors she is one that I automatically pre-order.
This was a bit different than the others I have read from her, but I love the dystopian world building by her and the other authors writing stories in the “Shattered Galaxy” series.
The MMC, Knave, was perfect for the FMC, Sage. He had been through so much already and was completely alone. It really got me thinking how it would feel to not see another person for a long time, no conversations with others, no hugs……Sage becomes so much to him and him to her. Traumatic circumstances bring them together and their insta-love was completely believable to me. I can’t wait to read more books in this series. 💛
I have to admit that I read most of this story while on the edge of my seat. I could not put it down and even shed a few tears too (sentimental softie that I am possibly because I read late into the night needing to know what happened). You cannot help but feel the despair and loneliness that Knave had endured before Sage appeared in his life. Your heart truly breaks for what has brought him to this point and all he has survived so far, possibly with no real chance of any future whatsoever. Sage is possibly a braver person than I would ever have been in the same situation but you never really know until you are in it. She handles it all with as much humour and gentleness as can be managed. There is a touch of the old-world fairytale romance to this, beautiful and I absolutely loved it!
Sage is all dressed up for the third (will this be the night) date and gets stood up. Her phone is glitching and then transports her to a dangerous world. Knave crashed there 3 years ago, was badly wounded and the ship put him back together just before it shut down He's now part cyborg and so very lonely on this desolate and dangerous planet. He heard a scream, rescued Sage and now he has a purpose- Protect Sage. She is reluctant to go near him at first but what choice does she have. This starts their journey. To find themselves, each other, and work together with the strengths they heave. Danger, indecision, attraction and oh such steamy scenes. Ava has a way with words that easily draw you in to her imagination. A great series and waiting for the next will be difficult.
I think this is the first action-packed sci-fi romance that i've ever read. A real page turner and kept me guessing what will happen next. Imagined Walking Dead... And replaced the zombie with man eating creatures with four legs and more intelligence.Then you have this book.
However, i found the ending is kind of rushed. And there are a little bit plot hole that i don't understand.
SPOILER---The thing about the aircraft is confusing. If it too small for him, how can two people fit in there? Somebody please explain to me---
Overall this is a nice read. At first glance, i wasn't sure i'm gonna like this book because the cover was ..... Let's just say that i wasn't into the cover. But this book is good. I really recommend it.
The second book in this collaboration of authors is spectacular! If you are a Ava Ross fan, this is a must read. Gripping from the first chapter, we follow Sage on her journey into an alien world filled with danger and yes, romance! It will be interesting how each different author covers the same plot with interesting diversity. I absolutely loved the broken alpha male Knave…even though he had physical deformities, he was still loved for the man he was inside. What a great life lesson! I also have to mention the Ferris Wheel sex scene….straight out of a fantasy and red hot! OMG! Download for a ride you won’t soon forget! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I need to start by saying that as a general rule I don't like dystopian stories. BUT this is Ava Ross here. I've never read a book by her I didn't like a LOT so with a bit of uncertainty I started reading. I'm still not a big fan of dystopian stories, however Ava knocked my socks off with this one! Knave is sweet, kind and everything a hero should be. I loved the was Sage rolled with the punches, her upbeat, positive view and I loved even more that she saw the true Knave. Ava Ross' world building is spectacular. Her stories keep you glued to the page. This one is incredibly well written, so much so that if she writes another dystopian story I will be right here reading it!
I love Ava Ross. All her books are so well written, taking you to a place outside of the norm for romance. Her worlds are described so well and the characters are fun to read about. Having said that, I was not a huge fan of this one. I think it's more syfi then anything else. Yes, these two had some steamy times but I felt like this was more of a end of the world science fiction story that anything else. I don't normally feel that with Ava's books so it threw me a bit. Definitely some action and suspense with these two being chased through this city they were hiding in. Ending was especially suspenseful and dramatic. Overall, just okay for me.
This is packed full of sensual magnetism between the hero and heroine. So intriguing and full of desires. I hope I’m trapped on a distant planet with someone like him. I wouldn’t want all the anxiety that went with being up against the danger. There was only one extremely dangerous type of menace but it’s enough. Thank heavens that he had been there to know how to handle things, but what a misfortune for him and a blessing when loneliness was relieved to have an enticing sexually and mentally lover. Love blossoms in the most strangest situations. I don’t usually read Love/lust stories with cyborgs. I’m glad I did very hot and interesting. Thank you Ava.
Ok so first off, yes, I like Sage the fmc and Fred is adorable. But holy crud omg I LOVE Knave!! I simply can not say enough good things about this guy! I just wanna hug and snuggle and take care of him ♡♡ He is such an amazing guy. And 4 arms plus a cyborg?? sign me up!! He is so strong, so smart. Such a heart!! I also adore the premise of this series too. And now I'll be left worrying and wondering about his two lost crewmembers. And. heh. Hats off to yet another amazing set of 'equipment' from Ava Ross ;) ;)
There was no build up. She ends up on his planet, he saves her from some creatures trying to eat her. They eat dinner, she tells him it's her 30th birthday. She invites him to have sex with her after she has a nightmare. The first night they meet. So I felt no connection between them. It was like, I'm lonely, you're here, let's do it.
Then she spends some time thinking about how she doesn't need to suck in her stomach around him because he looks at her like she's beautiful.
This book just didn't work for me.
This had SO MUCH POTENTIAL, but just like book 1, it fizzled after a few chapters.
Also, I refuse to believe that someone as smart as Knave would’ve spent three fucking years in this almost inhabitable planet, see an escape pod and never see if he can fit in just because he thought it looked small. You’re telling me it was too small for him but could fit a human, an alien cat and him when they try to escape??? Also: he spent all that time there and never thought of trying to charge the electric vehicles in… the garage for electric vehicles????
Ravaged World: Shattered Galaxies by Ava Ross, this is another amazing story that grabs you from the first chapter. This Knave and Sages story, it is a journey pitted with danger, painful emotions, action, steam and love. Knave is a beautiful broken hero and Sage is the beauty he needs.
Ava has built a world of danger, darkness, that finds some light.
This is Ava at her finest! A very addictive read!
Wild Adrenaline Ride!
Hang in tight because this is one action packed story! Part of a series with the premise of an Earth woman who is sucked away to a foreign planet. This was book 2 in the series. Complete stand alone. From the minute she crashes it’s a non-stop race to survive. Her hunky alien finds her but even he can’t keep her safe. Add in some adventures to do more than survive and some hot alien fun time & this is makes for a fun heart stopping read!
So I ended up DNFing at 66% but still want to give this book three stars. It was relatively light and sweet but ultimately kind of boring to me. The writing is okay and the plot thus far seems pretty basic, which initially appealed to me because I wanted something easy to read after I finished a string of darker books. Unfortunately, the book just could not hold my attention and I have way too long of a TBR to keep trying to force myself to read it.
