Read this for Supergirl Radio and it was really cute. Reminded me of the movie (which was also cute) and I like how they used Mxy (and Lulu!) in this book. Feels like it would be a really cute graphic novel for kids. As always, Krypto is the best boy.

This all-new original graphic novel takes place immediately after the events of the 2022 animated film starring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Kevin Hart. The Justice League is slowly adjusting to all having become pet owners. While the heroes are doing a fantastic job of team-working with their powerful pets, the Justice League still likes to conduct business cloistered away from the animals. The heroes have even rigged the main conference room of the Hall of Justice to not accept pets!

The Fifth dimensional imp, Mr. Mxyzptlk, sees this injustice and decides to have a little fun at the Justice League's expense. After a little bit of mischief, Mxy turns all of the human heroes into animals. Superman is now the Parrot of Steel. The Dark Knight has become the Wombat-Man. Now with the amenities of the Hall of Justice working against them, the Justice League has got to team with the League of Super-Pets in order to stop Mr. Mxyzptlk from reeking continual havoc on the people of Earth; even if that means teaming up with a old enemy...

This was a brilliantly made graphic novel done entirely in the essence of the full-length animated film. If DC decided to make 'The Great Mxy-Up' the plot of the inevitable Super-Pets sequel, I would be 100% okay with this. Though I would have Mr. Mxyzptlk take things to the next level and turn Krpyto, Ace and the rest of the pets into humans. I think it would be hilarious to have Krypto looking like The Rock and to see tiny little Kevin Hart barely fitting into the costume of the Batman.

Plus, such a change would keep things from being completely like this book.

I'm also hoping that this isn't the end of the Super-Pets in graphic novel form. I really enjoyed this book. Though I wish I had read this AFTER seeing the movie instead of the other way around. I did miss out on a couple of things that weren't really explained unless you had already seen DC League of Super-Pets. For instance, I didn't know Merton was a female turtle until I was about 80% through this book. Also, there are a few plot point surprises from the movie that get spoiled if you read this graphic novel first.

However, if the young reader in your life is in love with DC League of Super-Pets and they love reading, then you must get them this book! It's about 150 pages long and has a full, rich vocabulary that is perfect for those in grades 2nd-5th. Plus, the action is more heroics than violent encounters as Mxy likes to stir up trouble in order to make Superman and his pals have to sweat instead of hurt people needlessly.

Lots of fun involving a fan-favorite character that really gets portrayed perfectly. I guess it's hard to portray an inter-dimensional sprite on series TV without spending a ton of cash on special effects. But if this does become the plot for Super-Pets 2, I really think Warner Bros. and DC Comics could pull it off.

DC League of Super-Pets was a generic -- if generally fine and enjoyable -- movie. The Great Mxy-up is a mostly generic -- if generally fine and enjoyable -- comic. (I say this as an adult who likes superhero stuff, but if I was a little kid I'd probably love them both.)

This comic (which is split into six manageable parts) follows on from the movie and gives readers a look at the Super-Pets in action. Krypto definitely feels like the most important pet story-wise, while others take a bit of a backseat, but everyone from the movie is represented in some fashion -- including Lex Luthor, Lulu, and the human Justice League.

The Justice League actually plays a major role here, and it's fun to see their dynamic with the pets come more fully into its own. The villain, Mr. Mxyzptlk, is someone I'd only heard of in passing. But I thought this comic does a good job introducing him and making him a threat (which is good, because if you have a child reading this they've probably never heard of him).

The story overall is basically fine if unremarkable. Mr. Mxyzptlk is here, he's messing stuff up, and the pets and Justice League work together to stop him. It toes the line between the childishness that it needs to have, being based on a kids movie, and still being sensical enough for an adult to read. I wasn't exactly riveted, but I thought it did the job well enough. The biggest plaudit I can give the story is that the dialogue isn't dumbed down too much. It's not the dialogue of an adult comic, but I didn't feel condescended to as an adult trying to read it and have a good time.

The art also deserves special praise. It's not uniquely good or anything, but something about it and maybe the quality of paper it was printed on really made it pop. The colors and drawings are simple, but it's all very vibrant, readable, approachable, and in line with the movie.

I'm glad I read The Great Mxy-up. This creative team didn't hide behind the DC Kids label to push out a sub-par product -- it's a perfectly competent and enjoyable read, if nothing particularly special.

Boy am I glad I read this before spending money to watch the movie in theater!

I don’t know what I was expecting but not this garbage. Super Pets definitely had its moments of cuteness, which is to be expected when dealing with a book about pets, but other than that it fell flat.

There was a lackluster plot that for lack of better word was dumb. At some point it did remind me of the silliness of the silver age but not as fun. The heroes in this book were watered down to cardboard cutouts of themselves with predictable dialogue and flat personalities.

SUPERMAN IS NOT BORING! A fact the average civilian will disagree with. I have family members and friends who find Superman to be lame. It’s garbage like Super Pets and Dawnbreaker that are to blame for this misconception.

I just want a Superman chapter book that tells a story about him trying to fit in to world he doesn’t belong and learning to use his powers for good. You’re probably reading this and going, ‘then maybe you shouldn’t be reading a kids book’
Children books does not equal boring and dumb. I’ve read plenty of kid books with pets as leads and still have well rounded characters.

Yep will not be watching the movie in theater. Sad I was really excited about it before reading this book.

Just so you know how bad it is: there literally is a scene where an evil super powered Guinea pig (still normal size) breaks into Clark’s apartment and uses green kryptonite on him, and then drags him out of the building by the cape. All this is happening while his fiancé is outside the apartment, and Lois does squat to help him. This is not the Lois Lane I know and love. Even when he was facing Doomsday she threw a rock at Doomsday to draw his attention away from Superman. You expect me to swallow she’ll stand by and do nothing while a freaking Guinea pig takes a man away! I Don’t think so.

This was cute and I like how more of the Super-Pets were highlighted throughout the comic. I almost wish we had a little more insight as to how Mr. Mxyzptlk came to be here. I knew of him through my dad being a big Superman fan but I wish there was just a bit more. Overall, I’m glad I read this and I think it’s worth a read through the library if nothing else!

While this book will certainly find its audience, it fell a little flat for me. A bit too chaotic, and I don't think the humor will strike the right note with kids. Art is fine, plot is alright, just not always a lot you can do when you are creating a graphic from an existing cartoon. Just average.
