This book goes on my "sacred shelf" which holds half a dozen honored books that I use to provoke new thoughts.” –Cynthia M. Adams, founder, GrantStation.com

Do you have, work for, or dream of starting a business or organization that positively impacts the world while also turning a profit?

Radical Business is a blueprint for business owners and businesses ready to usher in a newer, practical form of doing business . By learning more about what a social enterprise is and how it can apply to any business, employee, activist, consumer, or citizen, we can use the golden rule as a catalyst for a different mindset.

Radical business is not a brand new operational system, it's a way of returning to the root or origin. A genuinely radical business goes back to its root to meet a customer's need, solve a problem, and provide value.

David Gaines outlines his Seven Seeds Framework for a truly radical business model,

Supply Chain : Behind Every Product Is a Story
Employees : Successful Brands Are Built By Happy Teams
Customers : What is Ethical Marketing?
Community : Fostering Healthy Interdependence
Competitors : A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats
Environment : Rethinking the Costs & Benefits to Going Green
Self : True Sustainability Requires Self Care

In Radical Business, Gaines provides real-life business insight with case studies of successful companies who have taken action to grow their profitability and positive impact. He provides actionable steps towards making a positive impact with in-depth analysis of supply chain, employee, customer, competitor, communal, and environmental interactions.

As the world rapidly changes, and we realize that it needs more businesses that do good, Radical Business can help us leave the world better than we found it.

This book is almost like a crash course on business terms and what to expect out of the businesses we think we expect to startup.

The author does a good job in explaining some basic terms. The chapters are short which I really appreciate.

There are three main parts talking about the new economy; the second part talks about the “seven seeds” which I feel is the main highlight of the book.
The third part is almost negligible comparing with the first two parts.

Read this book if you need a fresh perspective of the topic.

Thank you, The Collective Book Studio, for the advance reading copy.

Radical Business: The Root of Your Work and How It Can Change the World” is a concrete business handbook by David Gaines, an idealist who dreams of a world where all businesses are social enterprises and where people are equally esteemed, served, and empowered. There is no perfect business—just businesses that are striving towards perfection. This is according to David, who has observed many entrepreneurs get caught up in the concepts of good versus perfect. He believes that any business can learn how to make a positive impact on the people connected to it, especially in the present days when the number of employees and customers who are socially conscious is rising by the day.

David has put forth actionable steps in a seven-seed framework for a truly radical business model, which includes: The Supply Chain: Behind Every Product Is a Story, Employees, Team Members: Successful Brands are Built by Happy Teams, Customers: What Is Ethical Marketing? and Community: Fostering Healthy Interdependence, among others. These are well-articulated concepts that he believes are essential in helping business communities return to the core principle of the Golden Rule: treating supply chains, employees, customers, competitors, the community, and the environment the way they would want to be treated.

The author is the chief visionary and CEO of La Terza Coffee. In this book, he navigates uncharted waters by illustrating the rapidly evolving modern-day economy and the effects of not conforming to its demands. He is an entrepreneur who has always put serving others as his highest objective and has seen his businesses prosper tremendously as a result. Through this book, he aims to help corporate businessmen and women, as well as small business owners, make a larger positive impact on their communities. He has poured in priceless knowledge gathered from his vast experience with the Social Enterprise Alliance.

David Gaines’ “Radical Business: The Root of Your Work and How It Can Change the World” is an integral acquisition for every aspiring, new, and existing businessperson. It is meticulously written, and though its topics may look complex, the author has broken them down for easy comprehension by both young and old readers. Highly recommended.

Through the lens of his own journey as an entrepreneur to case stories of companies that are doing things differently around the world, Racial Business offers an invitation to explore what's possible when we return to our roots.

I received this book as part of a Goodreads giveaway.

This book was written well. There was no rambling, it was very concise and up to date. Personally I do not feel this book applied to me and I am not sure if the authors expectations are even realistic. Maybe a good dream but I am not sure if this is something that we can make happen.

Radical Business is an excellent reminder of the power that individuals and businesses have in making a positive impact on the world. As you read this book, it feels like you are sitting down to have a coffee with David - it is honest about the challenges that come with social impact work yet equally optimistic. The social enterprise landscape has always felt complicated, but this book breaks things down and encourages simple steps to drive lasting change. I’d highly recommend!
