Dean Rasmussen grew up in a small Minnesota town and began writing stories at the age of ten, driven by his fascination with the Star Wars hero's journey. He continued writing short stories and attempted a few novels through his early twenties until he stopped to focus on his computer animation ambitions. He studied English at a Minnesota college during that time.
He learned the art of computer animation and went on to work on twenty feature films, a television show, and a AAA video game as a visual effects artist over thirteen years. He currently teaches animation for visual effects in Orlando, Florida.
Inspired by his favorite authors, Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, Richard Matheson, and H.P. Lovecraft, Dean began writing novels and short stories again in 2018 to thrill and delight a new generation of horror fans.
Emmie and her friends investigate a house were the ghosts are hard to find. These ghosts can influence people 's thoughts. They are having trouble with bad thought's. Can they help the ghosts before it's to late.
The team is called in to investigate a murder in a house that sells itself to guests on a haunted theme only to end up with more challenges than they bargained for. I thoroughly enjoyed the build up of emotions and rivalries among the team members while they try to work out what is wrong with the house and why the murder took place. In a way they're fighting against the clock as characters from the past try to use the team to complete their own agenda. As Sarah absorbs evil and tries to sooth its influence Emmie is struggling with inner conflicts as well as ridding the house of the malign influences. In trying to do so the naivety of the gang in 'revealing the truth when the ghost has no boundaries' has almost disastrous consequences as well as the realisation that sometimes a lie really is better than the truth. Not only did I enjoy the book as one of the best the author has written but I learned a few new facts such as Hermetic teachings, Manadalas and the properties of obsidian glass.
I'm not usually one who gives away the secrets of a plot but I did love the way the author has managed to make present events unintentionally influence those of over a century ago. If this is confusing then the solution to the problem can be revealed by spending a little money on the author's book. Obvious!!
Usual ARC rider. I got an advance copy but these jumbled words are my true opinion.
Whisper House is the 4th instalment of the Emmie Rose Haunted Mysteries and it didn't disappoint. Having left a fairly large gap between book 3 (Hyde House) and this one I was worried I may have out grown the series or left it too long to enjoy it as much. I needn't have thought that as it was like popping on your favourite cardigan or drinking a good cup of coffee.
Emmie, Sarah and Finn this time enter Whisper House and there's a lot going on there, much of it not good. I loved the house history in this one with Joan and especially the descriptions from Dean (author) making it feel very life like and real. His eye for detail is amazing and I really wish I was there (After the ghosts had gone obviously). The story and mystery were good too and I liked the outcome. I wasn't sure how I felt about Finn and Sarah getting closer, making Emmie feel like that. Although I also felt Emmie should have been happy for her friends and not as jealous. The addition of Jason (Joker) will be an interesting one. Especially with his background and history with Emmie (Which I also hope we hear more about). After the fallout of Whisper House I wonder if there will be a few changes a foot but I'm sure book 5 (Temper House) will give us a little more.

After four friends book for a weekend stay at “haunted” Whisper House and only three return, the devastated owner hires Emmie, Sara and Finn to cleanse her family home of some decidedly nefarious spirits! “Whisper House” is a scary good paranormal mystery thriller! Fabulously written, and beautifully narrated, the smoothly flowing plot is easy to understand and has a decidedly SPOOKY feel! I was instantly captivated, and then held mesmerized until this fantastic story concluded! No spoilers! I don’t want to give away any of the secrets held by Whisper House, but believe me, this one is absolutely worth a listen! At no time was I left wondering what was going on! I was able to sit back and just enjoy the developing story as it played out! And boy, did I enjoy! The main characters continue to grow and evolve with each successive story and I am loving their evolution! A new character, no spoilers, was added and I can’t wait to see where that goes, and what the next book brings! Five hauntingly good stars! I loved it!
This fourth book in the series of Emmie is excellent. A lot is at stake in this book. We meet someone from Emmie's past, someone she has forgotten. For the first time, Emmie and Sarah are using their powers for profit, and the task is strange, hard, and might be too much for the three friends. I like the way the book struggles with metaphysics, time, and ghosts. It might be a bit much to the genre, but I enjoyed the entire part about the mystics and how the past was part of the now through the art and architecture in the house.
I have read four of Rasmussen's books for the past six days, and I have found that he has a problem with mothers. It's for sure a returning theme. I'm not sure that I have anything against it, I just recognized it. It could also have something to do with the fact that I have been emersed in books the past few days.
I still like the books and the universe, and even though my hopes for a romance between Emmie and Sarah, I find the writing of Rasmussen very entertaining and will keep an eye out for further books in the series.
Whisper House, the fourth novel in the Emmie Rose Haunted Mysteries, is possibly the darkest of them all. When asked to clear Whisper House after a murder takes place, Emmie, Sarah, and Finn set off to stay onsite as they delve into the mystery surrounding the odd whisperings and the killing. Unfortunately, Emmie is already out of sorts because their wonderful friendship of three is starting the exclude her as Sarah and Finn become closer. And when she starts acting on these negative feelings, what will happen could be life threatening. Emmie is not the only one affected by the house’s entities. As with all Dean Rasmussen novels, this one is a wonderful, well-written paranormal mystery. I do love these novels and do hope to see more in the future. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Audiobook: Book 4 in the "An Emmie Rose Haunted Mystery" series was even more complex than the first three stories, but it was just as mesmerizing as the rest. Once the audiobook started, I had to listen until the end as it kept me riveted. The owner of Whisper House asked Emmie and her friends to figure out what was going on there, as the last time the place was rented, a tragedy occurred. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Kasi Hollowell's narration was awesome as she provided different voices for the various characters. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
I enjoyed this mystery story. I found it more of a slow burn until the action ramped up and had my heart pounding until the end. Emmie Rose, Sarah and Finn are hired to find out what happened when a girl murdered her boyfriend at a haunted house. This is a somewhat different plotline than the other stories but still very enjoyable. There are other books in the series and this one can be read as a standalone. If you enjoy haunted house mysteries, you will love Whisper House. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
This the fourth book in this great series. Emmie , Sarah and Finn investigate a murder in a house, called the Whisper House and is rented out as 'Haunted' hotel . The emotions and rivalries grow and become very strong between at least of the two of the team. They fight against the clock as characters from the past try to use the team to complete their own agenda. The past and present blend together. The pain of loss causes future problems. Loved this book, the scary level was so much higher. Brilliant.
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
If you like haunted houses, this author is for you. Great characters. Complicated plot. The Ghostbusters become haunted. They turn on each other. Wow! Great read. I was gifted an Audible version of this book from the author through Story Origin. The narrator does a great job performing these characters. Different voices for each character. I just think she could make the spooky moments feel more creepy. Otherwise her emotion and feels are good. 4 stars for her.
Whisper House is an excellent addition to what has become a thoroughly enjoyable series. It’s been quite a while since I listened to the first three Emmie Rose books, but slipping back into the lives of Emmie, Sarah, and Finn felt effortless. Dean Rasmussen once again delivers a compelling blend of mystery and the supernatural, and Kasi Hollowell’s narration brings the story to life. A recommended listen and I’m looking forward to continuing the rest of the series when I can.
I absolutely love this series. It has a creepy factor to it that draws you in and keeps you wanting more. Emmie, Sarah, and Finn have almost met their match this time and I love the twists and turns that keep you guessing what will happen next. I hope that the author continues to add to this series as I am anxiously awaiting what happens next.
I've been receiving the Emmie Rose Haunted Mystery Books as an ARC, so I can leave my honest review, and honestly, this book was the most nerve-wracking yet! Not leaving any spoilers but the series is addicting!
I’d like to give it 4 stars (a little to drawn out for 5) but Sarah’s character really needs to change. She’s so pathetic and makes things worse than they should be. I have to skip some pages when her character is behaving so out there.
I thoroughly enjoyed this latest book in the Emmie Rose series. I've found each book to be entertaining and interesting reads with some wonderful goose-pimple (bump) moments.
Thank you Dean for another intriguing mystery book with my fave characters. ❤️
This series just keeps getting better and better. Emmie, Sarah and Finn head out to investigate a haunted house where a recent murder occurred. What they encounter is not only confusing but also disturbing and creepy!
The last book I was reading didn't make it past chapter 4. This book was read in 2 sittings because I wanted to know what was next. So much for sleep tonight. Thank you for writing.
I waited until I read this book to leave a review. The stories were really good, and I don't have a favorite. The books are well written and kept my interest.
I absolutely love this series! I’m afraid to see how many books are left so I hope it is several or you are still adding more! Keep up the awesome work!
I always enjoy the Emmie Rose Haunted House books, but this particular one struck me a bit differently. But in a good, scary way. I think it was because the fear and horror in this one are more insidious. You can see and sense what's happening, but are unable to do anything about it. What can you do, when the horror and evil attack from within? This author always does an excellent job of building suspense and setting an atmospheric and ghostly ambiance. In this cold, frozen and lonely setting, you'll want to escape from Whisper House, but you won't be able to. The same as you won't be able to put this book down.
***I received a copy of this book from the author. My review is strictly voluntary.***
Received an audio review copy from the author, this is an honest review. Narrated exceptionally by Kasi Hollowell, Whisper House is such a gorgeous, profound and poignant story that begins with a bang as friends holding a Halloween party at Whisper House that's ends in a dark tone. For Emmie, Finn and Sarah as their friendship under goes deep changes gets further altered by the fiery loss of Hanging House; severing the connection of Emmie's childhood past and the place Sarah called home. From these ashes, Emmie struggles in taking a job that makes use of her abilities for profit at the same time as desperately needed; for Whisper House is deeply colored by the mirrors on the walls, hidden spaces and a tragic story that still haunts even into the present. It's a place that will test their friendship as well as the abilities of Emmie and Sarah as the spirit causing the ruckus twists the whole narrative about the house on its head... and catching you off guard right at the end of the book. Another amazing journey worthy of your money and time, highly recommended.
