Detective Josie Quinn #14

Watch Her Disappear

Rate this book
Lying on the ground, the girl’s prom dress, the colour of champagne, shimmers in the dying light. A corsage of wilting pink sweetheart roses decorates her wrist. She is perfectly still, like a delicate china doll, trapped forever in a sleep from which she will never wake…

When a call comes in about a young girl found dead at a high school prom—her life drained away from a fatal stab wound—Detective Josie Quinn drops everything to attend the scene. Taking in the girl’s neatly braided hair, Josie feels a flicker of recognition. But no one comes forward to identify this innocent child, murdered on what should have been the happiest night of her life.

Trawling missing persons files, Josie realizes where she has seen the girl before. Gemma Farmer disappeared a few months ago, shattering her family. But why would her body appear now, on her sixteenth birthday? Josie’s only clue is the five neat little cuts on Gemma’s pale arm. Days later, another missing girl shows up, tucked neatly into her bed on the morning of her birthday, her favourite teddy beside her, her skin as cold as ice—and the autopsy reveals scars on her arm matching Gemma’s.

Her head spinning, Josie’s fears the marks are a serial killer’s twisted way of counting his victims. How many other innocent lives have already been lost, and how many more could follow? The case takes a terrifying turn when a local girl goes missing just days before she turns sixteen.

Clock ticking, Josie turns the town upside down in search of answers. But when her own chief comes forward with the missing piece of a devastating puzzle spanning decades, will it be enough to get inside the mind of the most unexpected and elusive killer she has ever encountered, or will another precious life be taken?

***HAPPY PUBLICATION DAY***

I have only read a few books in this series but I knew enough about Detective Josie Quinn to be able to relate to the characters in this book. I love a strong female protagonist and Josie is one tough detective – mentally and physically!

I think I enjoyed this novel the best so far, because the book isn’t so much about Josie’s background etc. This one centered a lot around Chief Robert Chitwood and the present case they are working on.

The action started right away with a murdered young woman, found in an alcove at he bottom of a stairwell at a local high school. It is prom night and she is dressed for the dance, in her pose she looks like she is sleeping!! A single stab wound in her inner thigh is the cause of death.

Though this is a relatively small town, there are multiple high schools and they are all having prom on the same night. Much investigation is done to try to identify the young woman but no one knows who she is. Josie has a feeling as though she’s seen her before but can’t remember where.

THE PLOT QUICKLY ESCALATES FROM ONE MURDER, TO A SERIES OF MURDERS and the team knows that they are on the hunt for a serial killer.

The plot is multi-layered and as the team digs deeper they find cold cases that may have been the work of the same killer!!

To reveal any more of the plot would ruin the read for everyone.

TRIGGER WARNING: There are some disturbing parts that include child abduction, imprisonment and abuse. The scenes are not overly graphic and leave a lot to the reader’s imagination, which is as it should be!!

This was a twisty page turner and I can recommend it to thriller lovers, you won’t be disappointed!!

I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher through NetGalley. The novel is set to publish on April 12, 2022.

It was my pleasure to read and review this great thriller!!

Watch Her Disappear could also be titled "Watch Josie Quinn be awesome"!

Fourteen books in and still going strong! Woohoo!! This is one of my favorite series and I am already waiting for the next book in the series! I think Lisa Regan's books are getting better as is her writing. If you have not picked up this series, do yourself a favor and do so. I know you are thinking there are 14 books, but they are quick reads, fast paced, with a great set of characters. You will fly thought them as I did.

In this book, teenage girls are being found dead on their sixteen birthdays after going missing without a trace. Josie and her team have their hands full with this case and its relation to a cold case which hits close to home for one of Denton's own Chief, Bobby Chitwood. I love how the author fleshes out a different character in each book and it's Bobby's turn in this book.

In this book, there is more focus on the cases than there was on Josie's personal life, but I didn't mind as the current cases and cold case were so interesting and I was fully invested in wanting to learn more. I will admit, I didn't have a clue and enjoyed how everything came together in the end.

I was instantly gripped by this book (as I am with all of them) and found myself flipping through the pages, fully immersed and engaged. Josie Quinn is such a fascinating character as are the other characters in this book. I have a feeling the next book will go back to being a balance of her personal life (go on that honeymoon already!!) and her work life, but it was fun to see her in full detective mode in this book.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. IYKYK, my reviews are always honest.

Full disclaimer: I have never read another book in this series, but that didn't impact my ability to follow any existing storylines.

Writing: 2/5 | Plot: 3/5 | Ending: 2/5

THE PLOT

Detective Josie Quinn is back when a body is found at a high school prom and when another body appears staged and marked in the same manner, Quinn suspects it could be a serial killer. BUT WAIT, there's also a connection to a cold case very close to Chief Chitwood's heart. Dun dun DUNNNNNN

MY OPINION

So. This definitely had potential. I think if you cut it down by 50+ pages by removing the unnecessary details and sharpen up some of the dialogue, we have a winner. The foundation is there... but the craftsmanship is shoddy. I really wanted to give this 3 stars, but I just can't in good faith. And here's why:

-Sometimes the detectives were intentionally obtuse to create suspense. Like when the SAME fingerprints were found on DIFFERENT crime scenes 25 yrs apart, Noah and Josie were like: do you think she could be involved!??! C'mon guys, a toddler could've sniffed that one out. ALSO, a former cop dead ass said an informant tipped him off about a murder and he was like "I didn't think much about it at the time" HUH????? As far as informants go, isn't this the best info you could possibly hope for!?

-A lot of unnecessary, over-explanatory, closed caption ass writing. Examples:

Josie logged onto their system to see if Hummel had uploaded any of the photos from the search warrant they'd executed on McMichaels' house that morning. He Had COOL STORY BRO.

Behind the bar, a bartender rinsed glasses while watching a baseball game on one of the televisions affixed to the wall. Pittsburgh Pirates versus the Philadelphia Phillies. A battle of Pennsylvania's two major league teams. Ummm... thanks for the fun fact I guess?? Has nothing to do with the story though.

...Josie was astounded by the spark that death took from its victims. Yeah rigor mortis will really have a girl looking different

Anyways, need I say more? The unnecessary details bogged down this story, stopping any momentum or excitement from the case itself, which was interesting. Also, one of the major revelations was just a blip on the radar—there should've been more emotive writing about this, but it was like oh ya remember that cold case? Solved it. Anyways, Chipotle or Moe's for lunch???

My run of solid female-authored police procedurals ended here. Sad face. Also, if you've read the series, there is A LOT of rehashing, which you may not enjoy for obvious reasons.

PROS AND CONS

Pros: the case was interesting

Cons: too many unnecessary details, very play-by-play writing, intentionally obtuse detectives to create suspense, blunt ass ending, around 75% it was so boring I almost debated vacuuming instead

The girl at the prom, lying in her champagne coloured dress, peaceful as though she was asleep, was dead. Detective Josie Quinn, Detective Noah Fraley and the rest of Josie’s team would soon become embroiled in a horrifying case where abducted girls would be murdered on their sixteenth birthdays. When their Chief showed a particular interest in the case, then showed Josie something he’d never shown anyone before, Josie was sure the long ago past was linked to what was happening now. When another murdered girl turned up, with evidence to match the first girl – they knew they had a twisted serial killer on their hands.

Digging deeply into everything they could find, the team gradually pieced together what was happening. But who was doing it? Was there only one person involved? Or were there more? The notification of another missing girl whose sixteenth birthday was a matter of days away meant the clock was ticking. Would Josie discover enough to save the last missing girl?

Watch her Disappear is the 14th in the Detective Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan and wow! What a twisted, chilling story! A fast paced, edge of your seat thriller, this series continues to get better and better. I hope the author doesn’t stop any time soon! Highly recommended.

With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 rounded up.

This was one of the best books in the excellent Josie Quinn series. It’s prom night in Denton, all the schools have their proms on the same night and the police department is on standby for the usual problems of teens getting themselves in trouble. Only this time it’s very quiet - until they get a call that body has been found at the upmarket high school. She is dressed up for a prom in a beautiful dress but no one seems to recognise her. She is unmarked apart from a stab wound to her femoral artery which would have caused her bleed out within minutes. She also has 3 feint cut lines on the inside of her arm.

Finally Josie twigs, she recognises the girl from a missing persons report of around 3 months ago as Gemma Farmer. Only a few days later another girl is found dead, killed in the same manner only she has 5 cuts on her arm. The other thing the girls have in common is they were both killed on their 16th birthdays. Josie has a really bad feeling about this case! Do the marks represent some sort of tally? And what about the missing numbers?

Then Chief Chitwood drops his bombshell. His much younger sister, Kelsey, was killed in the same way 25 years ago. He looked after her much of the time. She was found in a church. Bobby Chitwood’s father Harlan who was the police chief in Brighton Springs investigated Kelsey’s death but the killer was never found. It also raises questions about possible links to the Butcher of Brighton Springs killings. The Butcher escaped punishment on a technicality,

Chitwood and Josie head to Brighton Springs to talk to Harlan. He was as corrupt a police officer as could be and he is still a pretty reprehensible person, always to be found propping up the bar in a seedy pub. Bob Chitwood hated his father and has tried to distance himself and be a better man but this case is really troubling him. Who could be killing over a 25 year period? A few suspects are bandied around but the truth is elusive. I never would have guessed!

I liked that this book had a focus on Chief Chitwood. Until now he has been the gruff and grumpy boss but now we see a more human side of him. He really loved his sister and when it seems they have a lead on her killer he and Josie throw caution to the wind as they know there is another girl being held whose 16th birthday is imminent. It’s brutal and bloody as Chitwood, Josie and the killer fight for their lives.

It was a horrific story which illustrates the long term damage that early abuse can cause a person. Yes the killer was evil but also their mind had been broken many years ago. It’s almost a wonder there weren’t more victims. I’m hoping Josie and Noah can finally take their much delayed honeymoon in the next book. Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly.

4.5 Chief stars - Now available

I found this to be another wonderful installment in the Detective Josie Quinn series. This author is so reliable, and I eagerly read these as quickly as I can! Fast-paced and a compelling story!

This time the author brings to life the police chief – Bobby Chitwood. Up until this book, we didn’t know much about him as a character, he was just gruff and did not share much of his personal life. Josie and the Chief really bond in this one and work together. I really like how the author does this with characters and it keeps the series fresh.

In this book, there is a lot of focus on the crimes, and they are chilling! We start out with a murdered young woman on the night of prom. She’s beautifully made up, but no one at prom knows who she is and she won’t get to enjoy prom!

When another body is found a few days later with similar markers, Josie’s team knows that there is something terrible at work in Denton. The Chief brings in a story from his past and the race is on to find the killer before he/she strikes again!

This one really had a compelling case at its core, but I did miss some of the personal story between Josie and Noah. I hope they get to go on an uninterrupted honeymoon in the next book! And then they can investigate the next murder!

Thank you to Bookoutre for the copy of this one to read and review.

This is the fourteenth book in Lisa Regan's Josie Quinn series and it's still going from strength to strength.

Detective Josie Quinn has had a difficult time in the past, culminating in the loss of the woman she loved dearly and believed to be her grandmother. Now, after some disruption to her wedding plans she is finally married to Lt. Noah Frawley and they are even thinking of finding time to take a honeymoon. However, it's Prom night in Denton with all the schools holding their Proms on the same night and the police are braced for dealing with teens getting into trouble. But so far all is quiet, until the body of a girl in a prom dress is found lying on a school stage. The girl was reported missing a few months ago so is she a runaway or has she been abducted and held somewhere only to be killed now on her sixteenth birthday by a single neat cut to her femoral artery.

For Josie's Chief, Robert Chitwood, the girl's disappearance and murder is eerily similar to that of his sister Kelsey twenty five years ago. The Chief's father was Chief of Police then in their home town and didn't identify any suspects for Kelsey's murder. But if this is the same killer, what has he/she been doing for twenty five years?

This addition to the series is less focused on the lives of the team members and more on the investigation. We do find out quite a lot about the Chief's background and perhaps why he is taciturn and sometimes grumpy. He and Josie become closer in this novel with a better understanding of each other. This was another fast paced read with plenty of action and some good twists. It kept me totally engaged trying to work out if the two murders were linked, who could be responsible and why they were carrying out such a specific abduction and murder.

the setup…
Detective Josie Quinn and the team are called to a high school prom where the body of a young girl is found. She’s dressed for the occasion except for the stab wound. But, she’s not a student and though she looks familiar, they can’t identify her. A few days later, they find another young girl of similar age posed in a church pew with similarities in her wound and other patterns. Before the team gets into the investigation, Police Chief Bob Chitwood intervenes and links the two to a cold case from many years ago that’s personal.

the heart of the story…
Since he first came on the scene, Bob Chitwood has been taciturn and an enigma. We finally get his backstory and he makes it abundantly clear how much he trusts Josie’s skills as an investigator. The return to his hometown was illuminating in so many ways and opened up not only the cold case but the two new ones. The procedurals were excellent, eclipsed only by the new dynamics between Chitwood and Josie.

the narration…
I’m continuing to enjoy Kate Handford’s storytelling but her mispronunciation of “femoral” (emphasis on the second syllable) was a bit jarring, especially since it was cited repeatedly.

the bottom line…
Another baffling case with exceptional procedurals but it was Chitwood being front and center that I found most interesting. I’m curious now that his relationship with the team has shifted how he will interface going forward. This just might be my favorite to date. 4.5 stars

Denton is one violent little town!!! Detective Josie Quinn is called to the scene of the murder of another girl. I am just starting to realize Lisa Regan loves to use tropes around murdered or missing girls. However, after fourteen books, she still creates exciting, fresh, unpredictable twisty plots around those tropes.

The girl's murder has similarities to a cold case that feels a little too similar to a team member. I love that Lisa continues to write stories involving other characters; however, this one focuses more on the investigation than on the other characters in Josie's life. It did feel like something was missing.

Lisa Regan is known for the twists and turns in her stories that keep readers on their toes, and this time I was ready for her. However, even though I saw some things coming, I was still left pleasantly surprised in the end and looking forward to the next one in the series.

WOW! Lisa Regan hits it out of the park again!!
Buckle up ... the entire team is back! This time it is about Chief of Police Robert "Bobby" Chitwood. He has always been grumpy and hard to get along with. This time we see a totally different side to him. Detective Jose Quinn and Chief Chitwood soon bond as they share feelings of grief and loss while working together to find who is murdering young teen girls.

The clock is ticking and Josie turns the town upside down in search of answers. But when Chief Chitwood comes forward with a missing piece in the puzzle spanning decades, will it be enough to get inside the mind of the most unexpected and elusive killer she has ever encountered, or will another life be taken?

Fast paced with plenty of plot twists to keep you engaged in the story. Lisa Regan keeps them coming with great stories and fresh ideas. I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series that she is in the middle of writing. If you haven't read this series, start at the beginning and enjoy the ride!

Special thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC!

In the fourteenth installment of the Detective Josie Quinn series we get to learn more about Chief of Police Robert "Bobby" Chitwood. Since the character was introduced he has been a hard-ass and perpetually grumpy. His office door is closed. Usualy slammed. Josie's team doesn't know anything about him. Where he lives. How he likes his coffee. In this story we get to know about his past. And possibly like him a little better.

It is prom night in Denton and all the schools have their proms on the same night which usually results in a busy night for the police department. Tonight things reach a new level when a call comes in that a girl has been found dead at one of the local high schools. Josie and her team respond. She was stabbed in the femoral artery. She also has scars on the inside of her arm. No one recognizes her. She is wearing a prom dress but she is not a student and is not on any video. Who is she and how did she arrive at the school?

Chief Chitwood tells Josie he has something to show her. What he shows her is files from a twenty five year old cold case. One that is personal to the chief. When another body shows up with a stab wound to the femoral artery and scars on her arm it appears that they are dealing with a serial killer. All of the victims were discovered on their sixteenth birthday.

All of the team, Noah; Gretchen; and Mett, are investigating while Josie and the chief team up and pursue other leads. They aren't exactly partners or bosom buddies but we get to know Robert "Bobby" Chitwood a little better. How he likes his coffee. Where he lives. Even like him. Will it stay that way? It will be interesting to see where Lisa Regan takes the character.

As the story opens, we have the team trying to help plan a honeymoon for Josie and Noah...then a call comes in. A girl has been found dead at a high school prom, and with that, we're headed for a fantastic read. Josie and Noah aren’t so much front and center this time. We get to see Josie interact with Chief Chitwood. Not only are they investigating the current murder, but they’re also looking into the unsolved murder of the Chief’s sister, Kelsey. The unsolved murder on which the Chief’s father, Harlan Chitwood, had been the lead investigator. The question remains...was the Chief’s father a crooked cop? This time, Lisa Regan gives us some fascinating insight into why Chief Chitwood is the way he is. We learn a lot about how his sister’s unsolved murder yet haunts him, and Josie begins to see why he’s always kept her and the other officers at arm’s length. We also see why he is so invested in solving this crime, knowing that doing so might finally bring justice for his sister. You won't believe how may the twists and turns there are here. For more than half of the book of I thought I knew who the killer was. Then my suspect blew up all my theories when he said, “I... nothing happened. Not before, and not this time.” What??? Before?! Not this time?!....and there you have the twist, letting the story bolt off the rails... and all you can do is to just keep on reading. I've always liked this series. Josie is one of my favorite protagonists. She has a tough and sometimes a thankless job, but she never lets it change her. Like all of this series, this one is a thrilling read and another masterful work by Lisa Regan.

Detective Josie Quinn and her team are called to the local high school. The body of a girl has been found during the prom. No one knows who she is or how she got there. It takes some digging to learn that her name is Gemma Farmer. She was reported missing nearly six months ago. Her body seems well nourished, her clothing is new. Where has she been all this time? Details of her murder come to the attention of Josie's boss, Chief Chitwood. He tells his staff about the unsolved murder of his teenage sister who was killed twenty-five years ago. There are too many details that are exactly the same. It looks like the same killer has struck again.

The Detective Josie Quinn series is still going strong after fourteen books. In this one, we learn about Chief Chitwood's past and what drove him to become a cop. He is a character that came into the series around the fourth or fifth book. We have learned very little about him until this book. I loved how he worked the investigation with Josie, bringing his knowledge of his sister's murder to help solve the current murder. This is another can't miss book in the series. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

I love Lisa Regan, Josie and her gang are some of my favourite fictional people. 14 books in the series and this has jumped right to the top as my favourite thus far. Before you read this review there will be mentions to previous books, so if you are yet to read any of the series take a week off work het a comfy blanket, a few bottles of wine and a box of tissues. It's one hell of a ride!!!

A young girl is found dead in a prom dress at the local school. on prom night. Problem is no one seems to know who this girl is and she isn't in any of the high schools so who is this girl? Although Josie and her team are on the case Chief Chitwood seems to be quite invested for reason we are not told about straight away. He only trusts Josie to begin with, with his secret but when it looks like he's being set up the rest of the team are there to clear his name, but with more girls missing is there enough time.

Firstly let me just say i never expected any story with Chitwood being the lead would leave me in tears, but the epilogue had me crying my eyes out for hours after. It was nice to learn more about the Chief especially since we know quire a lot about all the other members of the Quinn crew (not sure that's a phrase but it is now). We find out why he became an officer and his motivation for always getting cases closed.

Josie is just amazing as always, she is completely thrown by this case and it's m.o, when more teens start to go missing she knows its more than a coincidence but what do they all have in common other than being teens? We spent less time with Josie's personal life which of course i missed but being so engrossed in the story i was able to forgive the lack of personal life.
The prose was written extremely well as always i found it very engaging and i was completely engrossed and i couldn't put it down. I love reading a book cover to cover that's a sign of an excellent book and this was no different at all. i couldn't guess who the killer was so wanting to kept me reading even more!

in conclusion i totally recommend you read books 1 to 14 straight away if you haven't. The storyline was great and this was by far my favourite instalment. I honestly highly recommend 5 stars easily.

Another enthralling Josie Quinn mystery! This is the fourteenth in the series and they just keep getting better.

On prom night, a girl dressed in a gown is found stabbed to death outside the prom.
Was it a disgruntled boyfriend? Or, is there a serial killer afoot? And, what does this murder have to do with another one decades ago?

In this story, Josie is still sad about the death of the grandmother who raised her, but there are positive signs that she is healing. Josie’s close knit team, which includes her husband, Noah are all here, and we learn more about the history of their chief who looms large in this mystery.

I really like the Josie Quinn series and typically stay up late to finish each one I read because I can’t put them down! Josie is a strong, capable female protagonist.

This can work as a standalone, but I encourage those new to this series to dig and read some of the prior ones.

If you like well written police procedurals/thrillers, and are not familiar with Lisa Regan, I recommend her. I can’t wait for the next one!

A favorite series! 📚🤩 This story centers around Josie’s chief of police and his backstory involving his sister twenty years before—1994.

Present day—It’s prom night when Det. Josie Quinn is called to one of the local high schools to investigate the death of an unidentified teen girl. No one has a clue who she is.

Before—The book then travels back in time three months earlier introducing us to a new narrator. This is where it gets incredibly dark, foreboding, and claustrophobic in feels (w/spine-tingling chills!) It centers around someone you don’t know yet.. and as the story unfolds you get more of the sinister circumstances this person is in. Lisa Reagan can’t go wrong by keeping you in the dark on who this person is, it only adds to the fear of being completely terrified for her. Oh how I love when a story can make you feel something emotionally. Lisa Reagan certainly did that!

This immersive, edge-of-your-seat, suspense-driven tale has cemented this series on my yearly pre-order list. Watch Her Disappear is not to be missed. It’s her best book yet!

In Pennsylvania, homicide Detective Josie Quinn and her husband Lt Noah Fraley are called to the scene of a prom where a young girl's body has been discovered. Unfortunately, this is only the first body to be found as a serial killer seems to be at work. The girls all have just turned 16, show cut lines on their bodies, are missing a lock of hair, have Benadryl in their stomach contents, and die from a stab wound to their femoral artery. And the killer seems to have been working for over twenty-five years.

Gimme, gimme, gimme a serial killer book. I've read the first 3 Josie Quinn books and then lapsed as I tried to locate more. All of a sudden, the library got in #14. Happy, happy. I don't remember the police chief from previous books but I was not impressed with his leadership or behavior. Yeah, I guess I should have felt sorry for him.

The story is good police work, a good mystery, with a strong female lead. Although the dog was only mentioned a couple of times, I like the name Trout.

Lisa Regan has churned out yet another unputdownable hit with her latest addition to the Josie Quinn series.

Prom night at Denton East High School is cut short when the body of a 16-yr old girl is found at the rear of the school building. Even as Josie and her team are racking their brains to solve the murder, another teen ends up murdered; the same M.O in both murders proving the presence of a serial killer at work. Things get more convoluted when similarities are found with a cold case dated twenty-five years ago. The police chief's personal stake in the case is just one of Josie's many worries as she strvies to stop the killer before more lives may be taken.

As always, the teamwork between Josie, Noah, Mett and Gretchen as they investigate the case is one of the best parts of the plot. The team also gets a glimpse into Chief Bobby Chitwood's past - the tragedy that defined his entire life and the reason behind his gruff demeanour.

One would think that after fourteen books with the same characters, the series would begin to lose steam. But hats off to the author who has surpassed herself with this exceptional narrative. The case itself is twisty and gripping, and while the antagonist was quickly identified, a chilling backstory and a nail-biting climax, easily makes this one of her best works.

Overall, a spectacular thriller. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Detective Josie Quinn's latest case takes on a very different edge when it ties into a possible cold case that has Chief Robert Chitwood tied up in knots. Things start for Josie when a young girl was found dead at a high school prom. Josie dives right in to try and identify the girl. As she does so, files prove that this murder resembles other murders from decades earlier. How do the present and past murders involve Josie's boss?

Evidence of a serial killer is strong, and one fact proves very disturbing. It appears that the victims are kept for some time before they are murdered, and with evidence that another teen is being held, there is truly a race against time for Josie and her team.

Chief Chitwood is as tough as they come, and he has knocked heads with Josie and others over time. However, this case proves very personal to the Chief and Josie works feverishly with him to get to the bottom of things. In fact, the two connect in a powerful way and I love how this book closed bringing something to mind from a previous book in this amazing series.

I have loved this series as I started with book three, Her Mother's Grave, back in 2018. Each and every book has been a stellar read, and Watch Her Disappear is right up there with all of the other books and definitely comes highly recommended.

Many thanks Bookouture to and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Name of Book: Watch Her Disappear
Author: Lisa Regan
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Publisher: Bookouture
Pub Date: April 19, 2022
My Rating: 4 + Stars! Rounded up!

This is Josie Quinn #14. I got on the Lisa Regan/Josie Quinn train late but I total love this author and this series.
Although at times it was very disturbing, this story had me on the edge of my seat.
Four Things I know when I start reading a psychological thriller
 Expect twists and turns!
 Be suspicious of everyone!
 There will be many secrets!
 The most obvious person didn’t do it

Since I suspect everyone, whodunit was on my list but I certainly was clueless to all the twisted details.

Yikes! Wow, another nail biting, page-turning case!
Lisa Regan does not disappoint!!
I am looking forward to Josie’s next adventure!

I always enjoy the Author Notes and/or Acknowledgements. In this case, Lisa has “A Letter from Lisa”. Additionally has ‘Acknowledgements ‘where she gives us some info on her research. Love getting the inside scoop on the background of the story.

I have heard that the ‘Author’s Notes and/or Acknowledgements typically are a bit stressful for an author to write. I for one am happy when they take the time!

Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this eGalley. This file has been made available to me before publication in an early form for an honest professional review.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for April 12, 2022.

Another great installment of the Josie Quinn series!

I loved seeing a new side of Chief Chitwood, and the camaraderie of this investigative team is top notch. They’ve become such a close-knit family and it’s been fun watching these characters develop throughout the course of 14 books.

As always, Regan gives us an in-depth look at a unique and twisted case. It’s so original and so well researched that it’s impossible not to be engaged as the story unfolds.

I can’t imagine where book 15 will take us, but one thing’s for sure: I’ll be here ready and waiting for it!

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Ms. Regan for the digital ARC!

Maybe the problem is that I didn't read the first 13 books in this series, but I'm baffled by all the 5 star reviews this book has. The writing is okay, although I am so tired of reading "he said... she said... she said....she said... she said" in the dialog. But the premise, the whodunnit and the suspension of disbelief are so ridiculous!

A young girl is found murdered at a prom, carefully arranged and beautifully styled, drugged and stabbed in a way that death would be quick and painless. Then another girl is found in the same condition in another place. All of the girls are killed and left on their 16th birthdays and they've all gone missing sometime in the past. In a stroke of amazing coincidence, the police chief's little sister went missing and was found in the same condition 25 years ago. Other girls have been missing and killed in the same ways but nobody ever noticed (how many violent, weird murders of teenage girls take place in small cities where this author lives?).

I kept trying to figure out why someone would do this, how it was connected to another cold case, the back story of another girl and how they were doing it. I finally thought I figured it all out and it all made sense, and I was so stoked that I'd unraveled it and everything fit together, but it turns out the ending in the book makes FAR less sense than what I thought it had to be. It's so.... just lame. Sometimes you just have to go "okay, so that person's crazy" and accept it as motivation. This is one of those endings. So much is so eye rolling.

If you just like the characters and like ridiculous serial killer stories, this is a quick read and will probably check all your boxes. It didn't make me want to go read books 1-13 though.

2 stars for "it was okay" for me.

I read a digital ARC of this book for review.

Josie Quinn is back and when I say she's back, I mean she's BACK. The grief of losing her beloved grandmother has ebbed and she's ready to tackle the next case with full Josie determination. She just doesn't expect this case to take her where it does.

Picture it, senior prom night, a night of laughter, pretty dresses, and dead bodies. At least that's what prom night included in Denton. A young girl is found 'sleeping' until they discover the gruesome way she died. With a new case on the docket, Josie is never more surprised than when the Chief gets involved from the beginning.

For me, the Chief has always been this background character everyone loved to hate because he usurped the position from Josie. I still gleefully smile every time Gretchen or Mett call Josie boss with the Chief standing right there, but after this book, I'll no longer take joy in that. I guess it's true what they say about what you see isn't always what you get and when it comes to Robert 'Bobby' Chitwood, there was never a truer statement made. I'm not going to lie, I thoroughly enjoyed this little window into his soul because it made him as real and flawed as we all are.

Josie is taken aback when Bobby pulls her into the case by taking her to his home and revealing a shocking truth that Josie never saw coming. Faced with the evidence, she didn't have a choice but to tell the rest of the team, and this time, the rest of the team included their elusive chief. For the first time, he's taken a front seat to an investigation and the insight you get into who he is outside of the Denton Police Station is a mind twist and the very last thing you expect.

Watch Her Disappear was less about Josie and her demons this time around and more about the Chief and his. It was about Bobby's determination to find justice and to make sure it sticks. Is he still gruff and bossy? Yes, but the things you learn about him and his family are enough to explain the reasons why. I loved watching the whole team soften towards the man who before only rankled them. Watch Her Disappear was a solid police procedural and there wasn't much time for Josie to have any personal failures or successes. We were too busy trying to save young girls from certain death and getting justice for 'Bobby' after all these years. The twists and turns, not to mention the new towns and new characters, were enough to keep you turning pages late into the night to unravel the mystery along with Josie and the team. Book 14 was an exceptional installment to the Josie Quinn series!

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Watch Her Disappear' by Lisa Regan.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Lisa Regan, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 12th April 2022.

This is the third book I have read by this author. It is the fourteenth book in the 'Detective Josie Quinn' series. It can be read as a standalone. I have previously read 'Her Deadly Touch' which is the twelfth book in the series and 'The Drowning Girls' which is the thirteenth book in this series and I would highly recommend them both.

I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. I am a huge fan of Lisa and if this is half as good as 'Her Deadly Touch' and 'The Drowning Girls' it is guaranteed to be a page turner. The synopsis stated that this book is 'Perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine'.  I am a huge fan of Angela Marsons so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue and 58 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Pensylvannia, USA 🇺🇸

This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonist is Detective Josie Quinn and Prima. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

Well, Well, Well Lisa you have done it again!!! Another absolute mind blowing page turner!!!

This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that captivates the readers attention and places them right in the centre of the action. The cover and synopsis suited the storyline perfectly. Lisa writes in such engrossing and engaging way that I become completely absorbed in the storyline.

As soon as I started reading this book I fell straight back into the storyline from 'the end of 'The Drowning Girls' as of I had just finished it. I have read well over 100 books since then which just goes to show how much of an affect on me and how memorable Lisa's books are.

The storyline was absolutely nerveracking and heart racing and kept me consistently on the edge of my seat, biting my nails and turning the pages until I finished it in one sitting. The plot is unique and I really I must say this has got to be the most emotionally charged book that I have read in this absolutely fantastic series. I could feel my eyes filling in several occasions which isn't an easy feat especially when it comes to psychological thrillers so a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS Lisa for making me well up 😂. This book is absolutely filled with drama, murder, tension, red herrings, suspense, tears, secrets and I could go on. This book has everything and more that you want in a crime thriller. It is unique and realistic as well as being fast paced. There was constantly something happening and it left me questioning myself throughout the book. I never did guess who was involved so a huge congratulations Lisa!!! It is getting harder and harder to surprise me but you had me hook, line and sinker!!! I absolutely adored the ending which, again filled me with emotions (I mean seriously Lisa what are you doing to me!!! >. It was just amazing and yet again leaves me in suspense until the next book in this addictive series as I cannot wait to see what is going to happen now!!! I cannot wait to get my hands on all previous and future books of yours!!!

It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.

Although this is the fourteenth book in the series I had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

Clear your schedules before picking this up as you will not be able to put it down!!!

I absolutely loved meeting all the characters again and it really felt like I was meeting up with old friends I got to know them so well in the last book! I absolutely love Josie's down to earth personality. Josie has suffered a horrific loss and instead of being the type or person to let it either overwhelm her or the type who completely gets on with life and forgets she is in the middle. I am looking forward to reading previous books and finding more out about Josie and Lisette's relationship and bond although I'm sure it will lead to tears. Not only is Josie a strong female lead but Gretchen is also a fantastic female model and I love the bond between the two women. They make an absolutely fantastic team and the dynamic between not only Josie and Gretchen is spot on but also with them and Noah, Mettner, Amber and Chief Chitwood. I was pleased that we seen a completely different side to Chief Chitwood in this book and, although I liked him anyway, it has definitely made me feel "closer" to him and I'm looking forward to seeing what he is going to do now!!! Every single character in this book "played their parts" perfectly to make an absolutely fantastic and memorable team who I love meeting every time I pick up one of Lisa's books.

Congratulations Lisa Regan on an yet another absolutely fantastic novel and this is why your in my top 10 crime author list and why this series is in my top 5 list!! Looking forward to the next episode in this amazing series 🥂

Overall a heart racing, page turning, addictive and unputdownable fast paced crime thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Genres covered in this book include Crime Fiction, Police Procedural, Mystery and Crime Thriller amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Angela Marsons, Carol Wyer, P.J Tracy, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine and any fans of page turning crime series.

389 pages.

This book is just £2.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5 /5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

I love this series and this is definitely one of my favourites.
We get to see another side of the Chief as this case is very close to home for him.
The book begins with a teenage girl’s body being found at a prom. Despite being dressed for the occasion, Josie and the team can’t identify her.
The way she was killed was similar to a case linked to the Chief’s sister and he asks Josie for her help in finding the killer.
It’s soon clear that other girls are missing. The girls are all taken a few months before their sixteenth Birthday and then found dead on the Birthday.
There’s a race against time to find Erica as it’s coming up to her Birthday and it’s a gripping ending to the book.
I loved this book and highly recommend this series.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

What a departure from the previous books. A secondary character we haven't exactly been to fond of, Chief of Police Robert Chitwood, comes front and center in the story line which by the end of the book completely has you having a much fonder opinion of him.

Chief Chitwood is always mean and gruff to those under him and when he asks Josie to his house to tell her about a similar case to the murder she is currently investigating she is surprised to say the least. This man who replaced her as Chief and has never been particularly nice to her now is entrusting her with some heavy stuff from his past.

Josie, Noah, Gretchen, Finn and Amber all throw themselves into solving both the current murder and digging into how its related to the Chief's past which turns out to be quite the twisted tale.

All too often, in a series of books when a writer has found their cast of characters, their setting, etc. everything becomes routine and instalment after instalment gets chucked out but there’s hardly ever anything new. Each new book is a variation of its predecessors.

Thankfully, Lisa Regan miraculously doesn’t fall prey to this effect in her long-running Josie Quinn series. Each new book presents us with interesting new aspects, engaging stories and empathic investigators.

In “Watch Her Disappear” Josie investigates the case of a formerly missing girl who’s found dead at the prom of a school she didn’t attend. While looking into the murder, Chief Chitwood is reminded of a similar (and very personal…) case from his distant past…

As so often in Regan’s books, there are major revelations about one of the police investigators involved in the current case. Fittingly, for this book Regan chose Chief Chitwood to take the centre stage.

Since Regan has long-since found her own style of storytelling and language, there are no surprises in either department - the book is suspenseful and exciting as ever. You’ll never find groundbreaking new thoughts in these books but if you like just one, you’re likely to enjoy them all.

You can read this as a stand-alone novel even though you will miss out on a few interactions between the investigators.

The Josie Quinn mysteries have become a go-to for interesting, engaging, suspenseful mystery thrillers and I’m already looking forward to the next one!

Five out of five stars.

Good Lort…

I could not put this book down. Could. Not. Walk. Away.

Talk about a tangled web of horror. WOW.

I can’t tell you how riveted I was delving into the Chiefs history. What a sad back story. He carried a heavy burden.

This story was fast paced with so many twists you better hold on or get whiplash. I have said it before and I’ll say it again. This author has so much talent it blows my mind.
