Angel Davis loves his solitude. That’s why after the former Army Ranger Special Forces surgeon bought a piece of land on an island. It gives him the space he needs to forget the awful things he saw during the war. His land is his safe place, where he can control who visits, when, and for how long. The six-room cabin he calls home also provides plenty of space for him to drink his sorrows away and wallow in the memories that haunt him. Ainsley Scott inherited a dream. Now the proud owner of half an island and guardian of her other inheritance—her niece—she’s free to do whatever she wants while she’s there. But a climb to the roof of her home leads to a fall and broken arm. Sure she needs help, and fast, Ainsley sends her niece to find the only other known person on the island—a descendent of her grandfather’s late sworn enemy. But will seeking the help of a man who wants desperately to be left alone open up old wounds, create new wounds, or at the very least, help her heal from her current wound?
Susie McIver is a native Californian and lifelong lover of great books. Born into a family of ten children, there were plenty of stories to tell and share. It’s only fitting she now writes books of her own. When she’s not writing or plotting her next book, she enjoys walking in nature, fishing in a lake near her home, reading, and spending as much time as she can with her three amazing children, five beautiful grandchildren, and her husband, whom she proudly says is her best friend in the world. Even though I enjoyed the storyline I have found it hard to get used to the way this author writes. As I liked the characters and the story I will continue to read her work.
His island is his solace but when his feisty neighbour needs his help a feud of years is supposed to keep them apart.
The characters are alpha males with a heart of gold who risk their lives rescuing others and hunting down the bad guys. Men who fall in love quickly and will do anything to protect what is his and is brothers in arms. They are family.
This compelling story pulls you into a web of action, mystery, and danger, revealing more complex situations as tension builds, and the stakes grow higher.
I really enjoyed the premise of the story, but the sophomoric writing style and child-like dialogue really impacts the delivery. Children talk like that to each other, not adults. So much potential fell flat by this poor delivery. I was hoping that the first book in the series was a fluke and that the writing would improve. Unfortunately it hasn't.
The whole book is very disjointed. There's no flow to the story, it's very choppy. It amazes me how quickly the main characters 'fall in love'. The punctuation is awful and character names are constantly being mixed up. I couldn't even finish the book.
I will say, right off the bat unless you are extremely good, at keeping all your characters in the order, which in this series there is a lot. So, if you are good at keeping it in your head or, are doing what I am now, reading the complete series at once. It would be best, to read this series, in order. Only for the simple fact, that it will put a lot of things, in perspective.
Angel is the total ticket to the perfect man. He is a selfless man, who while he is walking through old deep pain, he is still giving of himself. He is not only an Army Ranger Special Ops Retired who now, with friends saves, Americans trapped in foreign countries, and brings them home. He is also a skilled surgeon.
He has no blood family left. This makes the Rangers the single most important people in his life. He trusts no others higher than them, except for the Band of Navy Seals. So, his awestruck emotion when he meets Ainsley Scott. The most ironic of all is she is the person that owns the other side of his island.
Yup, you heard correctly. You see, both of them were gifted half the island, by a family. Because at one time, their great-great-grandfathers were, friendly. Until the feud started an affair. Fact or fiction. You’ll have to read to find out. They meet the day, Ainsley’s niece, Maddie flags down, Angel. She says, her aunt fell through the roof of the old cabin.
Hence, the meet-cute. This is no laughing matter, Ainsley bumped her head knocking herself out, for a bit, and injuring her ankle, and her wrist. All of her body, is badly, bruised. But, our hero, Angel carries her back to his side, of the island. Awe! He takes her, to her brother by boat, and still has time to be the best man, at Kash and Emily’s wedding. Yup! I did enjoy this fast pace story with too much to tell you.
****But, I will once again warn: this does have triggers for those women, children, and men who have been physically abused or those who have been kidnapped.****
Sorry but….This has to be the most messed up book I’ve ever read. A hundred different disjointed scenarios with as many different characters. The saddest thing about it is that each episode is a tragic circumstance that people go through and it sort of makes a mockery of it all. From abused women, kidnapping and hostages in 3 different countries to rescues and a plane crashes and a crazy woman trying to steal a man she wants and a sexual encounter and and and…. Again I’m sorry but this author should give it up or get new copy editors. This book is a mess!!!!
The story starts out well, but it has so many grammatical errors that it is hard to track the story. Errors that cause difficulty with fluent reading: Missing quotations, switching from first person to third person in the middle of a paragraph, lack of clear flow, paragraphs where they should continue from the previous. It was hard to read. I quit halfway through because it was too much work to sort out.
This book is more like a collage of short stories, just as you get done with the "big deal" of the story, you jump into another "big deal". It's hard to know who is who at times and how that character fits in and where they came from, thus the disjointed aspect of the book. This book would be better to pick one big storyline and stick with that one and only storyline instead of bouncing around.
This was one of the worse written books I have read. The dialogue was so stilted, choppy, uneven. Some of the things that happened, like a man driving, ramming a car, while simultaneously shooting a rifle into a moving vehicle, just don't make sense. A Dr. Being allowed to carry a loaded handgun in a hospital and, who is RETIRED Seal...killing a man and no questions asked.
I love this series,I have had to stop reading them in the evening because they are that good I don’t get to sleep till 2am 😃 .Angel and Ainsleys story is a thrilling read with a good backstory encompassing a whole host of lovely characters that will hopefully all get thier own story too
This story has a lot of danger, suspense, action, and a little romance thrown in keeps you hanging on the edge until the very end of this book, looking forward to reading more books from this author thrilling
This is my second book in the series and am still hooked. The characters are all likable and you can’t hep but pull for them. All ready have the next book and can’t wait to read it. Great book/series and you should definitely give it a try.
Overall I liked the overall storyline but it didn’t flow that well. It was a bit choppy in places and sometimes the speech didn’t make sense. I did the like the characters and how it was instalove, there was plenty of action.
Completely loved this book.full of love adventure and a bad women.well also slot of hot Alpha's too..kept my interest all the way through..Bravo Susie. You did a fabulous job on this story.
Down time for Angel is being surrounded by peace and solitude at his home on his side of an island. But when someone needs help the doctor rushes to the other side of the island to help a woman who has fallen through a roof. In one minute Angel and Ainsley find their soulmate. But can an instant attraction lead to a HEA when Ainsley puts herself in harms way? Or wil this be the beginning of the end to the family island feud? The moment Angel and Ainsley meet the connection can be felt by the reader which makes the turmoil they have to go through to be together a complete page turner. Another Army Ranger down - I cannot wait to see the others fall too.
This is angel and Winslet is story. Angel and his former Rangers are still rescuing Americans from Afghanistan. He's A surgeon, so he has many talents. Winslet has her own problems when she helps an abused young woman who happens to be pregnant. There's a lot of different angles going on in this book. HEA.
