Harem of Freaks: The Complete Series

Rate this book
When I join the circus, the last thing I expect is to fall in love…
The craziest part? It’s with shifters.

I ran away from my abusive home on my eighteenth birthday and never looked back. Working at the traveling carnival is my chance for escape, for joy and independence. Or so I thought.

But there’s more to this circus than I expected. Monsters lurk in the shadows. Those with fangs and claws, and the men who profit from trafficking them.

Shifters are real, and they're people who need my help. The lone wolf protecting his pups. The tattooed dragon with a wicked tongue. And the prickly tiger who keeps me at arm’s length.

Captured and exploited, they’re furious at being paraded as circus attractions. They might be monsters, but they’re also men. My men. Together, we must stop the shifter trade for good.

I may not have fangs or claws, but it turns out I have magic of my own. And I’m not afraid to use it.

Because these monsters? They’re all mine.

Fantastic and fabulous

I've read and loved every one of Crystal's books so far and she's only getting better. I have reviewed all these books separately so all I'm going to say here is that this is a wonderful series, full of heart and passion and compassion. Shifters and a 'mere human' each fall in love with the sweetest girl, who turns out to be everything they didn't know they needed until they meet her. They all have heartbreak and sadness that colours their lives but together, they create a new family and are so much stronger together.
There is a story arc that continues throughout the series so this omnibus edition is a great way to follow Mel and her beautiful men on their journey to love and healing.
Each book I read by Crystal becomes my new favourite of hers so if you haven't read any yet, give this a try. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Normally, I will overlook political opinions or commentary that get woven into story lines. We all have our opinions and are entitled to them. I couldn't do it for this series. To misinform readers of how military veterans are dealt with infuriates me. Connor would have been medically discharged from the military with 100% disability FOR LIFE. This means his prosthetics would have been covered FOR LIFE, his VA benefits would have been FOR LIFE, and he would have received disability pay from the military FOR LIFE regardless how long he had served. Problems that veterans have stem from congress not taking care of them and any problems with the VA system are due to congress consistently cutting their funding. The military and VA aren't perfect, but they do take care of active members and veterans, especially those wounded as Connor had been.

This portrayal in this series upsets me, especially since it drives this particular character's story arc. I would have given this series 5 stars and it would have been a reread for me if it hadn't been for this.

Great story, not loving the fat hate

This a great story. The characters are realistic, the plot works mostly. I enjoyed it until we got to the part where the awful evil mean bad gross mom was also "morbidly obese." No other real characteristics except that, and being repulsive. A few other mentions in the book are for the gross fats, too.

Not likely to read any more of this author.

I can’t read a RH with a FMC that turned 18 ten minutes ago. Not for me.

Amazing

This is the complete series of Crystal Ash’s Harem of Freaks. It includes extended scenes and multiple epilogues, including some with Mel’s friend and brother-in-laws. I adored this story and couldn’t get enough.

Best Series I’ve Read In Long Time!

This series was so good I finished it in one weekend! I couldn’t put it down. The story and characters are absolutely amazing. Mel and her men are great in their ups and downs. What makes them amazing is the communication between them. So many other stories go without proper communication until the end but this story you get it right away after a little prodding. Simply amazing RH that other stories should aspire to. I would give this a ten star if I could! I only hope the other characters in the book get a spin off story so we can keep this story going.

I stopped reading on the second book because I just can't/ Felt superficial with repetitive scenes about some of the characters that didn't really help in their development.

Disappointed 😞

Sad to say i am thoroughly disappointed. There was so much hype about this series. So as soon as it was completed i bought it cause i hate cliffhangers and i so sad with what I read. I found myself actually skipping ahead whole paragraphs cause there was a lot of filler repetitive narrative and lots of boring blah blah. It was almost a DNF but momma didn't raise no quitter and i powered through it, painfully. It didn't give me me the RH vibe at all. The spice was barely there and it was painfully super slow to even get there. 7 books that could've been better as a novella. But hey good thing this was just my opinion. Sad part is i actually actually paid for this but it's all good. Gotta keep our authors creative juices flowing somehow 😁

Very good and spicy scenes, but the story was just underwhelming. I didn't really like the main character that much, I thought we were going to get someone much tougher than what was shown. And the were no character development in with her at all. This harem had potential, when every man got introduced to us they had good and solid personalities until they all fell in love the main character and became a huge bundle of too sugary much and lost all their unique personalities. I swear I can't count how many times I've lost track on which of the men where speaking because they had the same freaking voice!
The ending was disappointing to say the least, it would have been much sweeter of an ending if the whole fucking book didn't already have so much goo in it.

This did NOT have to be this long, could have been shorted down by at least 300 pages if it weren't for the unnecessary fillers. And was not NOT expecting the change of perspective in the last chapters.
I'm sorry but I did not like what I read about this character. ONLY because I had a different vision of that character when we first met her earlier in the series and everything that happened was so rushed in a bad and unrealistic way. I just found it stupid at that point, like really I skipped most of the last chapters because of how damn stupid and cringy it was. And I've already been through a whole ride throughout the series, this is where I gave up and stopped caring. I finished it not totally happy with what I read, but also I don't regret it.

Like I said, it had potential and my expectations were not met. Unfortunately

Great read

I have to say I believe my first book by Crystal Ash and I really enjoyed this complete series (7 books). I loved how it all tied together and explain about the shifter worlds and the different shifters and how they were learning to trust humans by a Sharman saving most of them.

Little bit bout the story:

Melody had a scrappy life her mom was a overweight drunk who used her to take care of her little silbings. She finally got away at 18 and ran to another town where she meet Connor at a circus he protected her against one of the circus men. They help a shifter wolf and his two cubs escape and they helped more shifters like Arjun a Tiger shifter. They learned Melody was a Sharman and a good one. Her little family Connor her human lover, Raz her dragon shifter, Hunter the wolf shifter and Arjun her tiger shifter. Her mates and her safe other shifters who get take or sold and get hurt by humans and locked up and the journey they go through and her helping her siblings.

Such a great story has a lot of good sexy scenes and love story for all four even some m\m scenes between two of her men. Definitely a lot of magic and circus performances and just thrills. Definitely a lot of stuff for anyone to enjoy. I literary couldn't put it down. Definitely check out this book I give it five stars.

Different & interesting

This series was pretty good. I liked the carnival aspects. I liked most of the characters & their backgrounds.

I do think the story was a little weird, and different than most reverse harems (I’m not a huge fan of RH to begin with).

It’s weird to think that this rather naive and innocent 18 year old just gets thrusted into a carnival life and starts hooking up with all of these guys who love her… I mean, it is an erotic romance, so I get it, but it was almost cheesy.

There are MM and FMM intimate scenes/relationships in this series.

I’m also cool with polyamory, but the way that Cooper pushes her to be with other people, who she feels attraction to but seems uncomfortable with, is a little weird.

Lastly, she grew up in a sub-poverish, trailer trash life, with a drunk mom who sleeps around, lives off of welfare and fake disability checks. But it literally makes it seem like she’s had the WORST life ever. The guys have missing limbs, abused, caged, sold by family, etc and yet it makes her life seem even worse than all of that. It’s weird….

Overall, it’s a cute story with a really interesting setting/storyline.

4.5 stars for a captivating RH romance

This was the complete series for the Harem of Freaks. The characters are all likeable and the storyline is one that will keep your attention and keep those pages turning.

The only reason this wasn't a five star for me was the bit of editing issues I came across during the last 25% and the moments where I just couldn't stand Melody. I get she's the FMC and her role was pretty much savior but dang...some of her choices were just downright stupid. I felt like she abused her relationship with the guys, manipulating them to do what she wants because they love and adore her. She never took their thoughts or lives into consideration. If you love someone, you should always look at things from both sides and perspectives and consider how your decision would affect those love ones.

Overall, I did enjoy the series. Hopefully there will be spin offs from this.

Honestly, I think the series as a whole should be 4.5 stars. Since that isnt an option, 4 it is. There are a lot of spelling, grammar, and punctuation problems in each of the books. The story was good enough I could ignore them for the most part, but some stood out horribly. I am most impressed with Connor's arc. The development and growth of his character was an amazing journey, and I'm so unbelievably happy to have witnessed it. Arjun is, as I've said before, my favorite of all the guys. Even through his fury, cold demeanor, and secrets no one even knew he had, he remained loyal and emerged as one of the hottest book boyfriends to ever grace a page. I think the "extras" were a bit much. I get Miriam's short, but those beyond just had way too much unnecessary sex. All in all, this series is hot, and absolutely perfect if you like RH, shifters, and some of the steadiest bedroom scenes out there.

Melody 🤦🏾‍♀️

Whew! Mel, her guys, family and friends felt like a huge undertaking.

I kept trying to wrap my head around her character but my mind kept screaming "shes eighteen" during all the secs scenes! And boy there was a lot!

MVP and fav stand alone / character was "IV THE CIRCUS OF PARENTHOOD". Arjun was that guy. In contrast to Connor he was for and about Mel. Where as Conner loved her but was constantly pushing her to someone else.

Speaking of Razvan and Hunter 🤦🏾‍♀️.Hunter was the most selfish of them all. They were for themselves period. Melody was just a bonus. They carved out their own family and were essentially doing their own thing. Everytime Mel said "I love thier love" or whatever she said I rolled my eyes. I was so over that entire dynamic.

I Steel Demons have ruined this writer for me because nothing I read by her has touched it.

Ok, so I NEVER heard of this author. I got this on one of those “it’s almost 2am, I just finished the wine, & I’m going to be alone” nights. I should’ve gone to bed.

O.M.G. I poured myself into this compilation, probably getting 2-3 hrs of sleep a night. It sneaks up, & just like a carni worker, fools you into thinking we’re working on a 72 hr day! I literally had to fight to put it down!

It’s funny, and irrelevant. It’s entertaining, yet makes you wonder. It’s full of magicks, and modern issues; shifters, and adventures; but ultimately, it’s a love story - and A LOT of super steamy (& creative) love scenes.

Personally, I think she could give LKH a run for her money. I highly recommend it!

Lots of sex, A new look at Shamans and Shifters

Mel left her siblings to escape and make money so they could too. In doing so she found new talents and the loves of her life. Things went well enough that when her siblings had to leave to survive she was able to help. As with any unknown there's a shadow agency lurking to destroy or experiment on them. There are twists, one expressly mentioned never materialized. After a point instead of fully developing the story it just went to a lot of sex. Most of the honeymoon is skipped. The pregnancy, birth and early months of Mason are skipped. But there's plenty of sex to take up pages, and that is why I gave it a three star rating.

I did not finish this series, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the author's ability to write or her storytelling skills. The story is engaging and the writing well crafted.

It's just too much for me.

My attention span to get through a romance has a 'maximum shelf life' of a week, maybe 10 days, with me reading on average an hour (approx. 100 pages) a day. As far as a series following the same set of romantic partners, that has a maximum of 3 books. After that, my brain just gets bored and starts screaming "Get together and move on to a new couple."

If Crystal Ash ever writes a stand-alone, I would absolutely pick it up because she is a talented storyteller with skill as a wordsmith (and clearly a good editorial team).

slow burn.. 3 books later.. still looking for the burn

I wanted to love this. I very rarely put anything down. I just could not continue.

The story has some positive points- I like the characters. I like the theme. But 3-4books later and still only one not so boyfriend does not a reverse harem make. When the next love interest finally does make a move it is awkward and not enjoyable to read.

I Want to Join the Circus

Crystal Ash delivered a series of books that's leaves her readers captivated, spellbound and mystified. There are a few sensitive spots, as an aside, but the most sensitive comes with a warning. However, don't let that deter you from reading!

If you love shifters, wanted to run away and join the carnival or need a break from life for a while; I suggest this series.

3.5* but can’t give that so full 4* it is.

Note I had written a large review and as I was coming to an end the app shut down and the way Goodreads works is it doesn’t save until you click done and I’m now very annoyed I won’t write my review out again!

Main thing I have to ask; is Miriam getting her own actual book or are the few chapters at the end of this one the only glimpse into her life that we get ?

I tried so hard with this book, and I just couldn't get there. There are so many really interesting things that go on and I love many of the dynamics and the portrayal of each character, but I can't get behind the timeline in all of this. It continuously feels like something is always missing in the storyline and it's that piece that is needed. I will say that the last book is wholly unnecessary for the plot and is mostly just straight smut.

loved the characters

The heroine was young without being annoying naive and innocent, the men were supportive and brought out a positive traits within the group. I definitely felt like it was very long and at times I had a difficult time wanting to keep going, not because I didn’t like it but because the story was stretched into so many parts.

Great Read

This was a great read. Once I started it was hard to put down. Loved the story and all the twists and turns that came with it. The characters were great and all showed growth over the series. The multiple points of views were a great window into the minds of all the characters and their struggles.

Five out of five stars.

better than expected

I love paranormal reads and this was right up my alley. Loved the storyline, and how every book told a tale and not just repeated previous info from the other books. My only issue was the use of God and Jesus being used so flagrantly throughout the stories, but like I said it was my issue.

Jesus tap-dancing Christ, a girl I read a review from wasn’t kidding when she said “once you start RH, you won’t be able to stop”. I couldn’t put this series down, and as much as I tried to because of working, I kept finding myself getting sucked into the world that is Mel and her men, finishing it in three days. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, don’t miss out!

Carnival ride

This was such a carnival ride. Lots of ups and downs, and sidewinder turns. There were heartwarming moments and horrific ones too. If animal abuse is a trigger, then be forewarned. The HEA ending was very sweet though and I really loved the short snapshots of their loves at the end of the story.

Freaky

Pardon the sad pun. I was captivated by this world and these characters. What adventures. An interesting example of how one person can change the world. I think I would have liked this better if it had ended with the wedding. But we did get a view of life in a group marriage. How did they have time for jobs and child care and all that sex? Freaky!

DNF

I think I got half way through.
Its a very slow moving series.
There is something weird about a traveling circus that happens in the current time period.
I feel like aspca would have problem with the caged animals.
Either way, after amassing 4? Into her harem After like 8 books, I'm don't think it's any where near complete and I'm not fond of any of the characters.

I loved this series I stopped reading shifter books because they all seemed to be the same, this series was the exception. The story was so good and took place in a carnival. The characters were so well written you fell in love with them all. The story runs the gambit of emotions but keeps you interested.
Highly recommend this.
