Doctor Peter Hanover has settled contently into a quiet life in the small town of Grand Ridge, Colorado. One of the founding members of Valhalla, a gated residential community for veteran special forces operators, he is surrounded by good friends. The recently promoted Chief Physician of St. Mary's hospital is kept busy with a robust work schedule. Yet... something is missing. A woman to keep his bed warm at night. One who will be his best friend and partner. Watching Hudson, Mace and Luke find their partners had stirred a longing up inside of him.

He knew exactly who he did not want. Doctor Isabella Mitchell. Grand Ridge's elected coroner drove him nuts. With her ombre colored hair, her quirky personality and inability to keep things where they belonged, she rubbed him wrong. He tried to avoid her whenever possible.

Which was fine with her. Izzy is hiding a secret, one that caused her fancy lawyer fiancé to breakup with her. She doesn’t have time for a relationship and definitely doesn’t want to pursue one with the stuffy Dr. Peter Hanover, even if he looks like he should be a leading man in the next Magic Mike movie. Since when did ER doctors have muscles on top of their muscles? She is perfectly okay with staying far, far away from him.

That is until a rescue mission causes them to be stranded together in the frozen, unforgiving Colorado wilderness.

Forced to keep each other warm to stay alive, they can no longer deny the chemistry between them. But, is chemistry enough to keep them alive, let alone together? Will they be rescued before it is too late?

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The fourth story in this series gave this avid reader everything she wanted to see in a book. The story has passion, mystery, suspense, angst, strong alpha men, and equally strong feisty females. I liked the characters, their interaction, and the deep, gut-wrenching emotions. The story will mainly revolve around two people in the medical field, Dr. Peter Hanover, the chief of the emergency department doctor at the local hospital, and Dr. Isabella 'Izzy' Mitchell, the county coroner. While these two have met and had minor interactions, they both seem to have animosity toward one another.

The story's plot will have a phone call to Izzy, needing her services, along with several men from Valhalla, including Peter. They learned of a woman in a cabin in a very remote area inside the park, but also closer to the back part of Valhalla. It is decided they will travel as far as possible in vehicles, and then on foot. The snow is deep, with freezing temperatures and treacherous terrain. They don't know what they will find when they get there, a rescue or a victim.

Izzy can't leave the scene without getting pictures and making notes. The weather is turning, and they need to get back down the mountain and are given five minutes, which quickly becomes thirty.
The trip down will include Izzy falling, hurting her ankle, Peter having to rescue her, and an avalanche. These two are inside an ice cave are safe but also trapped. It gives them time to talk, to learn about each other, yet Izzy still keeps her secrets. Peter comes equipped for the trip with protein bars, water, first aid supplies, and even a sleeping bag. Things get rather steamy between the two doctors for the night, but what happens come morning and them being rescued?

"Life sure had a way of taking what you said you'd never do and throwing it back into your face with a vengeance. Now that he'd gotten to know her, he wouldn't let her get away."

I love the chemistry between Peter and Izzy. Once they get past their misconceptions of each other, they click well. They seem to be in sync from their time trapped inside the cave, having heart-to-heart conversations about various topics. But she ghosted him the week after, and he isn't allowing that. A face-to-face meeting to discuss what is bothering her and how he feels about it is a turning point. Izzy is still living in the past with Michael and the hurt, and Peter isn't another Michael, and he proves it. Not only Peter, but the men of Valhalla and their women are family, maybe not blood, but stronger because it involves loyalty.
Peter: That's what you do for family.

"Peter understood. Sacrifice and loyalty. When it came to helping family, no limitations existed."

"I’m not going to say it’ll be easy, what I’m saying is it’s worth it. You are worth it, Izzy.”

“Peter scaled all her walls and joined her on the inside, not demanding she remove her defenses but instead adding to them. He’d defend her and their relationship, no matter what.”

The story has the good, the bad, and the evil. What brings them together is a heinous murder. What keeps them together is learning to be honest and trusting each other. Not believing that everyone will judge your actions because of another person. Izzy has learned that Peter is a dedicated man to his profession, his brothers in arms, and especially her and her family. She must face the reality that when duty calls, what could be a life and death situation, it also means heading in to face danger but trusting that he and his comrade's training will bring them home.

“As long as dangerous men are out there; Sheepdogs will be dispatched to protect the sheep.”

The story does not end on a cliffhanger, but an ongoing threat that has affected Valhalla with a drug cartel, and human trafficking is still a life and death issue—and now, one of their own family members is a target.

Really enjoyed this enemies to lovers romance 😍

Even though they’re both doctors and seem to have a lot in common, Peter and Isabella can’t stand each other. When they're stranded in a cave after an avalanche, they’re able to hash it their issues. Which leads to more than either of them expected. Can they fit the other in their busy life?

This was super cute and heartwarming. Contains slight BDSM. I really admired Isabella and her care for her parents. Especially after the way she left her small town. And let’s talk about her job… I couldn’t imagine. That one scene almost had me balling.

Peter is so sweet and understanding. I love how supportive he is of her and her family. This was honestly just so cute!

Peter and Izzy's story was so good. In parts of it, it broke my heart but since I don't give spoilers, you'll have to get the book and read it to find out! Izzy made mistakes when she was younger and left town but now she's back as the local coroner. Peter is a doctor and lives at Valhalla with his former teammates. When they both are assigned to a case, neither had good opinions of each other but getting stranded together sort of opens their eyes. But Izzy has been burned by a former fiancee and she's not about to go down that road again. Can these two work out their differences or will her being stubborn keep them apart? Such a good story and I'm really loving this series. Can't wait for the next one!!

We find Dr. Isabella Mitchell and Dr. Peter Hanover going on a mission to rescue a teen. Doc Peter doesn't have a good opinion of Dr. Izzy Mitchell due to her hair color and the impression he got when he saw her office. Izzy is the Coroner of Grand Ridge and the missing teen could be a case for the coroner. On their way down from the mountain they get separated from their group and trapped together after an avalanche isolates them to a cave where survival mean they have to count on each other. They sure heat up the cave and find a new respect and attraction for each other.

I have enjoyed the Valhalla series so far and Peter and Izzy's story was a great addition. I liked that they went from not great first impressions to working together and finding out how great they are together. I loved that their story kept my attention and I wanted to find out what happened next. They were both strong characters and I loved their story.

This is the latest entry into the series and while it can be read as a standalone, there is an overreaching story arc which may affect your enjoyment if you've not read any of the others. Doc has been a side character from the first and Izzy was introduced in the previous book, so they may be familiar. I enjoyed this story. There was some great interaction between the characters, not just Peter and Izzy, but also the other Veterans. The plot contains what is a heartbreaking reality for too many people in today's world, both in Izzy's family circumstances and in the event which ultimately brings Peter and Izzy together. This is a solid read that I enjoyed.
I've been a fan of this author from the first book I read, which, coincidentally, was her first book published. I've read most of her books and have enjoyed almost all of them. However, it may simply be because I recently re-read the Triple A collection that I've been able to quantify just what has started to feel 'off' when I read something new from this author. This story, and others in this series, are novella length, which doesn't give much space for character development or to fleshing out the story. I've mentioned in a previous review that for a series focusing on the men (Veterans of Valhalla) there is very little time spent on them - most of it is on the women. I would love to get more background into the men this series is about. For instance, there's only the most basic discussion of Peter's military background, mention is made to an ex-girlfriend and family discord with no explanation, and absolutely no explanation of how he came to be living at Valhalla.
I really like this author, and I'm going to keep reading her because at the end of the day, I'm just one reader and of course there are going to be books that don't grab me as much as others. Likewise, I realise that others may love this book. That's the nature of having individual preferences.

Ok so while this story could be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading them in order because there is a bigger story at play than just the main characters story. In this one we get Doc's story. Doc has his career and his friends but feels like something is missing in his life. He wants someone to share it with, especially after seeing his friends find their women. But he knows he doesn't want someone like Isabel (Izzy). She is quirky, unordered, and just generally drives him nuts. He tries to avoid her as much as possible, until they are thrown together. And all that is fine with Izzy. She has her own secrets that she has no desire for anyone else to know. Even if the man has muscles for days and looks the way he does. But when a rescue mission leaves them stranded together, they have to face the chemistry that is between them. But is that enough to forge a true relationship or will they flounder and fall apart?

I really enjoyed this story. Izzy and Doc didn't seem like they would be compatible but they are actually pretty perfect for each other! And once they actually get past the misconceptions they have of each other, they are more alike than either thought they were. There isn't a lot of suspense in this one, but honestly it doesn't need it. The story stands just fine the way it is. My only drawback with it-I felt like the end was kind of abrupt. Almost like there should have been more to it. I even went back and reread it to see if I missed something. Otherwise, I liked everything else about this story and can't wait for more in this series.

A captivating read, attention grasping wonderful characters and plot
This is a wonderful read, great addition to what has been a wonderful series of reads with the main character Doctor Peter Hanover who with his military friends have set up an organisation where they work together rescuing women.
He is the medical doctor at St. Mary’s hospital where he is kept very busy with his work schedule, the coroner for the area Doctor Isabella Mitchell he finds extremely annoying and when she finds herself with the one man she tries to keep as far away from as possible.
The mission they are on is extremely risky and when they become trapped together in very treacherous circumstances within Colorado Wilderness, they are struggling against the elements and the temperature as they fight plummeting body temperatures it is only their body heat that sustains them.
This is a tension filled read that everyone that reads this book will enjoy every single moment of it is full of tension, passion and a whole lot of sexy tension filled moments that you will thoroughly enjoy.
I do not want to spoil the plot so will say no more about the three of them, I assure you that you will enjoy every single moment of this book.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

Dr. Isabella 'Izzy' Mitchell is the county coroner. She left her small town burning bridges before she left, never planning to return. When her mother's Alzheimer's took a turn for the worst she returned home to care for her aging parents.so they wouldn't have to go into an assisted living home.

Dr. Peter Hanover was a combat field surgeon for twenty years, now he's the chief of the emergency department. He likes things done efficiently and has definite ideas of how they should be done. He's affectionately known as a 'cinnamon bun dominant.'

When these two meet assumptions were made that had them both disliking the other until they were thrown together on a rescue mission on the mountain. Once these two cleared the air and were forced into close quarters the fireworks explode and they are getting naked. Izzy hasn't done much with kink in the bedroom but she gets more than a little hot with Peter's brand of dominant play.

While I would have liked better transitions and more time with the various issues and story arcs, I liked these characters and how they were together. Gray is clearly growing as an author, with each book in this series gets better than the last.

Doc is the story of Dr. Peter Hanover, Chief of the Emergency department, and Dr Izzy Mitchell, county coroner. Neither one likes the other at the beginning of the story. Peter comes off as a real jerk to Izzy. He finds everything about her from her multicolored hair to her office unprofessional.
Izzy can’t stand how “Mr. Perfect “ makes her feel, he makes judgments and walks off. One late night, they are both called out on a possible rescue or retrieval mission when they find out the cartel has left another girl chained up in a remote cabin. They have to hike up a snowy mountain trail, and Peter and Izzy get to know each other.
After their discovery, they hike back down the mountain, but get caught out and stuck in a cave. Peter and Izzy keep themselves warm for the night, but Izzy is different the next day. She has too many obligations for a relationship, and the last one turned out badly. Peter decides to show her he’s different. But trouble manages to find them later.
This was another brilliant book in the Veterans of Valhalla series by RJ Gray! Even though Peter is a bit of a jerk to Izzy in the beginning, I still enjoyed their pairing. I really like Izzy. There is power exchange in this book, but a bit lighter than the others.

I enjoyed this book. Unlike the others in the series, there's not a lot of BDSM in here. There's a small chat about how Peter is a "cinnamon roll type dom"and one spanking scene. Other than that, there's not a lot of spice. The story is the more important thing and the spice is scattered around.

Isabella is the county coroner who is also dealing with older parents, one who has Alzheimer's. She had a broken engagement, because the man wouldn't support her when she needed him most. She's trying to juggle so much and doesn't think she has time for a relationship, and thinks that whatever man she would get involved with would leave once he know about her parents.

Peter is an Emergency Room Doctor. He's also a veteran Navy SEAL. He's an Eagle Scout and it shows.

While this isn't "enemies to lovers" they rubbed each other the wrong way the couple of times they've met before. Peter thought she was unprofessional because of her multi-colored hair and toys in her office and she thought he was uptight and overbearing.

Overall, it's a decent story. I like how it sets up the next book of the series. I would recommend it, especially if you've read the others in the series.

Doc: Veterans of Valhalla is the well written, spellbinding, captivating and hard-to-put-down enemies to lovers romance about Izzy and Peter finding, complimenting and completing each other.
Let me start by saying I absolutely fell in love with these two. Izzy’s calm and quiet sympathy for everyone around her, alongside her personal investment and dedication to both her job and family, made her very easy to love, impossible not to feel and natural to relate to. Peter, with his calm, patient and easygoing - yet proper and dominant personality, along with his penchant for problem solving, is simply wistfully sigh worthy. Between them the tension is sparkling and the chemistry sizzling hot. Together they are just so right; whole and natural. They felt like coming home.
I really enjoyed this book. With its solid, authentic characters and its well built, naturally unfolding plot, RJ Gray once again shows her ability to suck the reader in, taking you on a suspenseful ride where hardship, crime and romance blend seamlessly and effortlessly together and horrors, dangers and emotions feel very real.
I very much recommend this book, and can’t wait for the next to come.

Doc and the Coroner

Peter is the head doctor in the ER and Izzy is the coroner. From the beginning they locked horns with each other. She thought he was an arrogant alpha male. And he thought she wasn't a very professional coroner. She had different colored hair and didn't look what he felt she should for the job she held.
They got to know each other when they went on a rescue mission to find a young girl that was reported missing. Unfortunately they were too late. She had been beaten and set on fire. On their way back the Mountain they got separated from the other two men and Izzy twisted her ankle. As They were trying to catch up they heard a rumble and got in a cave just in time as an avalanche came down the mountain.
While in the cave they got to talking and found a lot about each other. As he takes care of her ankle he tries to warm her up not to get hyperthermia. But both are attracted and before you know it they are making love.
Great story of two people that have been hurt but have respect and feelings for each other. Peter is a Dom but not as dominate as most Dom's would be. Loved both characters.

Neither Peter or Izzy made a good first impression on the other, they both made assumptions about the other based on what they say the first time they met, and it took a while for them to give the other a chance. That didn't happen until they were both called out on their behavior by some of the guys at Valhalla and they were forced together for a possible rescue of a human trafficking victim. I liked the relationship between these two, they were both mature and once Izzy opened up about what she was keeping from him for fear of him judging her, they were both all in and made sure they communicated and didn't fall prey to misunderstandings. There wasn't a lot of danger involved for either of them in this book, but the human trafficking case looks like it will be pursued further in future books. This was a quick, enjoyable and entertaining read. I liked the main characters and their relationship as well as the glimpses we get of the rest of the gang at Valhalla.

Even though we've gotten to know Peter a little through the previous books, he's still a different person than I was expecting. But in all the best ways, I assure you. He's a commanding alpha presence that straddles the line between strict Dominant and Daddy. Izzy is and yet isn't like other female leading characters I've read. She's a mould-breaker in her chosen career field however, she has so many of the same emotional scars the rest of us are carrying. This isn't the pairing I thought I was going to see, but they work perfectly together. They're more alike then either one realizes, which made their hate-at-first sight so powerful. This book contains less of the actual mystery and suspense that were present in most of the earlier volumes, and it seems that what is there is setting the stage for what's to come in the series. Now that I’ve got a glimmer of what may be on the horizon at Valhalla, I can’t wait to see what will happen next.

Izzy Mitchell is tired. The county coroner by day, she moved home to Grand Ridge, CO to take care of her aging parents. When called in on a case that may be a rescue, but might also be a recovery mission, she is thrown in with Dr. Peter Hanover. They do not see eye to eye. She thinks he is a stick in the mud, and he thinks she is cold. Neither one saw a relationship with the other coming, but as they finally get to know each other, she just might be the woman he has yearned for, and he could be her forever.

RJ Gray's passion for veterans and active duty military characters is beautifully showcased in this book. The brotherhood of these people is tangible. Izzy and Peter's chemistry is blazing hot, and their HEA is guaranteed. This story is fourth in the Veterans of Valhalla Series. The romance can be read as a stand alone, but there is an overarching story that runs through the series, making them best read in order. One hundred percent a five star read, this is not to be missed!

Poignant, and Exciting Romance at Valhalla!!

Izzy has moved back to her hometown to care for her failing parents. Mom has Alzheimer’s which means dad cannot care for her alone. This also resulted in losing her boyfriend Michael, partner in a law firm, who doesn’t understand the need to move home to care for them. (Rat) Her mom’s nightly question about Michael, just adds to the hurt.

Working as a Medical Examiner she is called to a scene in a remote location - where they do not know whether it is a rescue or a recovery. Doctor Peter Hanover (Doc) is coming also. Izzy is not looking forward to being near that rude and assumptive man. His team mates assure her he only scolds those he cares about, she is not impressed.

An event separates them from the group and delays their coming off the mountain. Clever repartee, personal revelations and a realization there may be something there. Another tremendous addition to this quite enjoyable series.

Once bitten twice shy!

After a failed relationship Izzy has built so many protective walls around herself she has erected an emotional prison.

Doc is a straight shooter say it how you find it kind of guy.

Both highly intelligent hard working Doctors within their own field, with family responsibilities of a different kind.

Doc & Izzy instantly clash within seconds of meeting.

Presumptions are thrown at each other in a verbal sparring match and both walk away with very inaccurate negative views of one another.

When thrown together on a rescue mission, not known what they will find, circumstances find them opening up to each other & finding common ground.

An emotional entanglement quickly develops into a budding relationship between Doc, Izzy & their families.

This is a lovely quick read, however be mindful that human trafficking & death are present within this story!

Another 5 star brilliant read from R J GRAY!

This is the 4th book in the Veterans of Valhalla series and I really can’t say enough about this series! RJ Gray you have done it again! This is "Doc" Peter, (ER doctor at the local hospital) and Izzy (the local town coroner) story. They both got off on the wrong foot, Fireworks happened but after spending the night in a cavern, they seem to be changing their minds. Their story is enjoyable read, theres drama, and trust issues, the characters are exceptionally well written and believable (you would not expect any less from this author) the chemistry can be felt throughout the book. I would recommend reading the whole series not just tis one that can be read as a stand alone. Highly recommend not only this story but the series.

Another chapter in the Veterans of Valhalla series. This story is about Peter and Izzy, both doctors, but with different specialties. Peter does not make a great first impression and Izzy is a bit standoffish the next time they are tasked together on a search and rescue. Absolutely loved one of Peter's declarations, e.g., "I want you Izzy. All of you." Loved the discussion with Hudson outlining what she was going to inherit when she finally committed to being with Peter, big brothers, largest family, dropping everything for you, loyalty. It's all about family, and I absolutely love this family. The scene is now set for the next chapter and I cannot wait.

What an incredible story! A well written suspense romance.

Centered around one couple, the story reads as flowing from one scene to another. We have a poignant bittersweet moment, serious and dangerous ones, then sexy as all get out, throw in a good dose of humour throughout and you have the makings for a few marvelous hours of curling up with a nice glass of your favourite beverage.

From the opening page, this one hit hard. The eloquence of writing and realism of subject matter resonated. R.J. Gray is one of my favourite authors as she treats sensitive matters with dignity and compassion, acknowledging the personality traits required to perform activities within the scope of the characters she creates.

The teaser at the end leaves me eager for the next book already.

This is book four of the Veterans of Valhalla series. Each book can be read as a stand alone, but there is a common thread running through them.

Izzy is a strong woman who has been hurt by life. Initially, she doesn't like Peter, but that quickly changes when they are forced to spend time together. Peter is ex-military and has a close relationship with his 'brothers' who live at Valhalla together.

Great story with great characters. I like how this author writes such strong female characters who are able to submit to that one man. There is mutual respect and I like that. I'm looking forward to the next book

This is the fourth book in this amazing series and is Peter / Doc and Isabella’s journey. Doc is one of the founding members of Valhalla and has recently been promoted as Chief physician in the ER., and with his busy life, he begins to realize that something is missing from his life. Isabella is feisty, and the towns’ elected coroner, and try to avoid each other, but Izzy knows how to push Doc’s buttons. When these two are forced to work on a rescue mission, they end up getting stranded, which gives them the time to get to know each other. This is a well written story which has secrets, mystery, suspense, angst, emotions, passion, and is an entertaining and steamy all-consuming page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

According to his Valhalla brother Dr Peter "Doc" Hanover is the most easygoing and laid back of them all. If that's true how has he managed to routinely ruffle the county coroner, Dr Isabella Mitchell's, feathers. These two seem to communicate by sniping at each other. It takes being stuck in a cave by an avalanche for Doc and Izzy to finally clear the air, make apologies and start a fresh. Boy, howdy do they know how to make a new start. But, when rescued, things get decidedly chilly between them. He forces the issue and she's forced to tell him the complete truth. Doc not only accepts her life choices but goes all in to embrace them.

A great addition to an amazing series
The fourth book in the series, Doc is an emotional read. A submissive who is strong and capable and has a job where she is in a position of control seems to be an unlikely candidate for a submissive. But doctor Peter Hanover draws out that submissive side. And when a strong, independent woman submits the result is powerful, emotional and truly epic! There is a lot of action packed into this story and it is such a beautiful love story. You don’t want to miss out on this book or this series!
