Marie Rydzynski-Ferrarella
aka Marie Charles, Marie Michael, Marie Nicole, Marie Ferrarella

Marie Rydzynski was born on March 28 in West Germany to Polish parents. She moved to America at the age of four. For an entire year, Marie and her family explored the eastern half of the country before finally settling in New York.

Marie swears she was born writing, "which must have made the delivery especially hard for my mother." From an early age, Marie's parents would find her watching television or tucked away in some private place, writing at a furious pace. "Initially, I began writing myself into my favourite shows. I was a detective on '77 Sunset Strip,' the missing Cartwright sibling they never talked about on 'Bonanza' and the 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.' before there was a 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.,' not to mention an active participant in the serialized stories of 'The Mickey Mouse Club.'" Marie began to write her first romance novel when she was 11 years old, although she claims that, at the time, she didn't even realize it was a romance! She scribbled off and on, while dreaming of a career as an actress.

Marie was only 14 when she first laid eyes on the man she would marry, truly her first love, Charles Ferrarella. During her days at Queens College, New York, acting started to lose its glamour as Marie spent more and more time writing. After receiving her English degree, specialising in Shakespearean comedy, Marie and her family moved to Southern California, where she still resides today.

After an interminable seven weeks apart, Charles decided he couldn't live without her and came out to California to marry his childhood sweetheart. Ever practical, Marie was married in a wash-and-wear wedding dress that she sewed herself, appliqués and all. "'Be prepared' has always been my motto,"the author jokes. This motto has been stretched considerably by her two children, Nikky and Jessi, "but basically, it still applies," she says.

In November of 1981, she sold her first novel for Harlequin. Marie, who now has written over 150 novels, has one goal: to entertain, to make people laugh and feel good. "That's what makes me happy," she confesses. "That, and a really good romantic evening with my husband." She's keeping her fingers crossed that her reader's enjoy reading her books as much as she enjoyed writing them.

I loved the MC's, the banter, I understood the place where they come from, liked the secondary characters, didn't care for the family drama and though the end was ott, or at least, unrealistic.

And absolutely despise the lack of defined paragraphs. This bothered me to no end.

But it was fun.
And cheap.

***

Theresa Cavanaugh (Teri) is full of life and afraid of commitment (which in itself is sort of a half life) because she has seen her father after her mother has been lost to him. Like almost all her family she is police detective and believes in upholding law.

Jack Hawkins, born to two drug addicts and living a fair share among the vice, has pulled himself together and gone on to become a cop so that he could balance out the bad and evil out there from the little good he can manage. But that has had its consequences.

The man is all bottled up about his fear, his dreams, his experiences and what not. With lips that could have been said to be sealed, he is one very UN-sociable man. Teri who happens to be his partner for nine month running has decided that she will make him learn to live life while she plans to hold her self (and her heart) back.

Things don't go to plan as usual. They both fall in love but would not speak a word about it as not to leave themselves vulnerable. But a little time apart is all the torture that they can bear and all the time they need to get their act together and pledge their lives to each other.

While this all goes on, Andrew Cavanugh (the ex police chief) has finally found his long lost wife, whom he'd been looking for for the last fifteen years. Though reluctant to let him enter his life, this woman (who calls herself Claire but is Really Rose Cavanaugh because she suffers amnesia) had finally decided to give "Andy" a chance to make her remember the life they had. A life she had forgotten. Andrew could be nothing less than thankful to the Good Lord who has returned (even if not mentally and emotionally) his lady love.

The steam factor in this one was just a bit over my comfort zone, but I enjoyed the story. Also I was excited to read some significant progress with a story line that started in book one.

THE STRONG SILENT TYPE - CAVANAUGH FAMILY SERIES #5 - (Teri and Jack Hawkins)

Until Jack Hawkins, Teri Cavanaugh had never encountered a case she couldn't crack or a cop whose life wasn't an open book after day one as her partner. Male detectives wanted to be "Hawk." Women flat-out wanted him. Teri simply wanted to know the man behind the badge, because her sixth sense smelled a story. Hawk resisted, but a good cop knew the value of patience....

Of course, a good cop also knew not to kiss one's partner. Or to cross the line from being partners to being lovers. Yet Teri was guilty on both counts and, worse, seemed powerless to stop what she had started..

Liked it best of the series so far. I really liked Terry. It did resolve a bit too quickly for me, though.
