"The Baby Chase" is the story of Rebecca and Max. Rebecca is the youngest daughter to Kate, and mighty upset when her brother gets falsely imprisoned for murder. Being a fictional writer, she takes it upon herself to insert into to investigation to prove him non-guilty, and butts head with Gabe, who is a PI assigned to the case by the Fortune family. Filled with energy, she is as bubbly as he is brooding, and as they dig deep together into the investigation, sparks fly! Honestly, the blurb for this book was misleading and it was actually the spoiler for the ending. The story was completely different and was mainly about polar opposites being attracted and going on a thrilling ride together. Overall an average read. But Im so happy for Kate and Sterling's HEA! Safe 3/5
I loved the dynamic between Gabriel and Rebecca. They had excellent banter, and Greene did a good job showing how both Gabriel and Rebecca had genuine love and admiration for each other’s very different personalities. Both characters had very big hearts. They just demonstrated it in different ways.
Gabriel was very swoon worthy, and Rebecca was very cute. Somehow, for a character that goes off on hare-brained missions, Rebecca managed to not be annoying. I also appreciated that she was no damsel in distress.
The mystery was pretty good. I figured it out early on, but I enjoyed going along for the ride. If you liked this book, I would recommend Switchback by Catherine Anderson. The characters had a similar dynamic, and the storyline was also mystery based.
As a side note, this book’s title and summary is false advertising. There is no baby or pregnancy until like the very end. Not sure why they decided to name it The Baby Chase.
This was book 5 of a boxed set of the Fortune Children series written by 5 different authors. it rounded all the different story lines to closing. This was a great series of how interactions of lots of people can come together.
