Can a feisty parolee and a jilted ex-army hero escape the clutches of a deadly corporation before they kill each other?
To comply with her parole conditions, hot-headed, roller-blading champion Zena is forced to work with her do-gooder sister. When they unearth the reason behind the declining hatchlings in the turtle breeding ground downstream, they unwittingly witness something they should never have seen. Bullets start flying, and running for their lives, Zena calls the only person who can help, her sister’s ex-boyfriend.
A failed mission robbed ex-army hero Nick, AKA Blade, of both his best friend and his military career. Desperate for a distraction from his shattered life, and despite his gut instinct telling him otherwise, he agrees to rescue the sisters. Blade orders in his team who he hasn’t seen since the shit went down in Afghanistan.
But saving the sisters has Blade fighting two fronts. One is his unwanted attraction to Zena. The other is escaping a merciless corporation who, in a battle to contain their noxious secret, test Nick and his team to the limit.
Will they complete their mission? Or will Zena and Blade die trying to save each other?

Risky Shores had been the sister’s home for all their lives, and with Brooke’s beloved turtles in danger, she was determined to do something about it. Meanwhile Zena was on parole for a misdemeanor, and they knew if the police were involved, Zena would likely go to jail. When Zena called their old next door neighbour, and Brooke’s ex-boyfriend, Nick, to rescue them, the escalation of events was fast. But would they all escape with their lives?
Fast paced, action packed, adrenalin fueled – Escape Mission is the 1st in the Alpha Tactical Ops series by Aussie author Kendall Talbot, and I enjoyed it. Set in a small town in far north Queensland, the ex-army military team were great! I loved when they were rescuing Charlie 😊 I’m looking forward to book #2 already. Highly recommended.
With thanks to the author for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this story, full of complex alpha war-torn men and sassy women. It is fast-paced, action packed and will get your blood pumping, in excitement, and the sexual tension runs high.
Escape Mission is the first heart-pounding book in the Alpha Tactical Ops series and one that should not be missed.
Two sisters on a search for the truth find themselves running for their lives. Trapped, they call the only person they can think of, but he wants nothing to do with them. Deciding to put his differences aside, he sets off on a rescue, and then all hell breaks loose.
I am still riding the high off this one and am off to get lost in the next book!
Are you looking for a story that is filled with action, that has a great hero, who has issues and a strong and feisty heroine who knows what she wants, then this is the book you should pick up, I thoroughly enjoy Kendall Talbot’s stories and this one is the start of a new series woohoo and it did not disappoint.
Roller-Blade champion Zena is on parole at the moment and has conditions that ensure she is helping her sister Brooke with the endangered turtles that come to lay eggs every year in the beautiful and quiet seaside town of Risky Shores the place they have grown up in and Zena loves, but when they go to see if they can find some answers as to why the turtles hatchlings are declining in numbers, getting shot at is not what they thought they would find, and what happens now that they are trapped who will help them?
Ex-Army hero Nick has moved back home to Risky Shores still trying to come to terms with what happened on their last mission he was in charge he should have kept everyone safe and one thing Nick is determined to do is find out why and to look after his team. The last thing he expects is a call from is ex-girlfriends sister begging for help to be saved, not happy about the call, he agrees to help if nothing else it will help him keep his mind of the past, but will it?
Spending time with Zena, Nick is finding that he has a spark for her that he should not, they are in a really dangerous position at the moment and need to get out but he discovers more than just what is harming the turtles and keeping them alive is not going to be easy, hence he needs his team to help, but will they come?
I loved this fast paced story it had my blood pumping as Nick and Zena go through so much to keep each other alive without losing their hearts in the process, Zena was so good for Nick she stood up to him and make him open up, and he is the perfect hero for Zena. This is a page turner and just fabulous and I can’t wait to read more in the series getting to know the team will be an adrenaline ride I can see it now. This is one that I highly recommend.
My thanks to the author for my digital copy to read and review
Kendall Talbot has done it again with her new book Escape Mission. She never fails to pull you right in with beautiful scenery and lively and believable characters (not to mention swoon-worthy men)
Escape Mission is full of heart pounding action, life threatening adventure and steamy romance scenes sprinkled in for good measure.
Kendall Talbot is a MUST read author. I highly recommend ANY of her books.
Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Trigger warnings: murder, assault, violence, drug and alcohol abuse, homophobia, amputation mentioned, PTSD, toxic waste - relating to environment, grief, death. Note 2: This is a series. But each book is a standalone, so feel free to read as you see fit.
My god this book. What a letdown.
I mean I had high hopes for this book - I mean just look at the cover. Any person could fall for that.
I mean we got a parolee roller derby skater, who's on a current hunt to save the environment alongside her sister, whose got her own secrets. And gets herself busted on the scene.
Meanwhile we got the hero, ex of the sister's and former military man who's got his own grudges/secrets/demons and vows to fix/resolve them with vengeance. And getting called on this environmental bust via said ex, and whose the sister of the ex is not exactly relevant to his vengeance plan.
But they do it anyway. And thus a lot of action (AND I MEAN A LOT), some romance (but at the most inconvenient times), and miscommunication (I am surprised I haven't gone bald yet), self-deprecation (too much too much, I didn't ask for an angsty YA hero), waiting time (lara croft coming through), accidents (she's supposed to be smart) happen, secrets comin out (we comin from the c......)and just some irrelevant stuff happen.
I mean this novel could've been so much better than I described, I mean the plot showed promise. I mean the novel had only two redeeming points - the cover, and the friends of the MMC (male main character). That's it. I mean...I feel so letdown..and to think I have a headache since last night because I tried to finish it.
Sigh. I hate when gorgeous covers of books let me down.
Anyway, movin on because I am no longer interested in sayin more for this novel.
Escape Mission is a high octane addiction of a novel that I struggled to put down and couldn't get back to fast enough. Each time I turned the page, I was on the edge of my seat and glued to the words on the page. The story line was realistic, high energy, gripping detail, and covered every emotion I could think of.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The sister shrieks and gives them away because ants bite her.
Then they fall down into a hole, all three of them. The second and third had warning. Especially the third who was supposed to rescue them.
The sister shrieks and gives herself away.
They refuse to call the police because they might get in trouble for trespassing. Uh. If you're being shot at, it's worth calling and potentially getting in trouble over getting killed.
The guy is so angry with the sister for telling him she's a lesbian after years of dating. His anger is over the top. I'm guessing she didn't try to hurt him on purpose but he's so very angry.
But that doesn't keep him from immediately noticing her younger sister is super hot. 🙄
And, even tho they have very little phone battery left, the heroine is going to use it to check his abs out.
I always enjoy an action packed story with a broken hero and a heroine who helps put him back together! Zena and her sister get sucked into a bad, very dangerous situation while trying to save the turtles and call on Nick. He and his former military team swoop in and save the day. Lots of action and a fun story!
The turtle population at the hatching reserve 40 miles downstream from Risky Shores has been declining, and environmentalist, Brooke, has enlisted her sister, Zena to find out why. While spying on Arrow Industries, they are noticed by Arrow Industries personnel, who begin shooting at them. Trying to evade the shooters, the sisters fall into an underground cave, from which there is no apparent exit. It is at this point that they contact Brooke's ex-boyfriend, Nick, aka Blade. What follows is a fast-paced series of dangerous adventures, which make Nick rethink his commitment to rescue Zena and Brooke. Along the way, Nick and Zena begin to feel desire for each other, and sexual energy charges up. This book is very well written and will keep you enthralled to the end. The author manages to create a book that is both an exciting adventure and a steamy romance. I would highly recommend it to both suspense fans and romance readers. I received a review copy of this book on Book Sprout.
I’ve read all of Kendall Talbots previous books and loved them, but she really outdid herself this time!!! Zena and Blade’s story is simply amazing!!!! These two characters have sparks flying! Also, the tempo of this book was spot on, with the action and suspense providing an incredible reading experience! If you love a brave heroine and slightly grumpy growly alpha hero, then you’re in for a special treat with this story!!! Outstanding job! Five stars all the way!!
This book was riveting and a page turner. This author knows how to write a thriller, actioned-packed story, this book kept me up all night reading to see what was going to happen next. I loved Zena and Nick and the rest of his team. So glad the author is going to give everyone a story. This is going to be a good series and I would recommend it.

A stint of community service for a roller derby champion leads to a deadly adventure and rescue comes in the guise of her sister’s ex and his old battle buddies. Kendall Talbot works her magic once again to give an adrenaline-pumping suspense and sensual romance all rolled into one.
Escape Mission launches a new series and is set in Queensland, Australia involving hot-tempered roller-blader and parolee Zena and a crusty, guilt-ridden former soldier, Nick. Nick had a rough war out in Afghanistan when he lost some of his team and sent him back to civilian life. Now his ex and her sister have tumbled into something big when their investigation of a company that might be polluting the river and killing off the local turtle population leads to gunfire and the sisters trapped in the cave they fell into running from the plant employees. Things go from bad to worse. Time to assemble his old team because they need all the help they can get.
This one barely slowed down once it got rolling and focused more on the escape and figuring out what the sisters had stumbled across. There was time for cute baby turtles and light banter. A slow build fiery romance strikes up between a reluctant Zena and Nick once they got things settled over the nasty break-up in Nick’s past involving Brooke. I enjoyed their sizzling attraction that worked well with the suspense element. Nick was smart and competent and Zena did pretty well considering- though I could have used less of her screaming when things got a bit bloody and gritty (okay, to be fair, I’d get squeamish over that stuff, too).
It ended big and finished up this plot thread, but also tantalized with the hint that something was hinky with what happened to his team in Afghanistan and that will carry over in the series as other team members get their stories.
I was feeling a bit of a letdown after the Treasure Hunters series finished up, but this opener to the new Alpha Tactical Ops series consoled me nicely. I can definitely recommend it for those who like rushing adventure and suspense blended with sizzling spicy romance.
This was a non-stop action-packed read, something I've come to expect from a Kendall Talbot novel. In over their heads, Zena and her sister Brooke get into serious trouble trying to find evidence a company is dumping waste and killing the local turtle population. They reluctantly call in Nick, Brooke's ex and an ex-army hero to try and get them out of the literal hole they've fallen in.
Things go from bad to worse, Brooke is kidnapped, they can't get out and then they uncover more than they ever bargained for. Nick has to call in his old Army teammates, bringing in the big guns might be the only way they get to survive.
Wow, this was full-on action, violence, crimes galore and bad guys everywhere.
I loved Nick's teammates, all such varied personalities and abilities it was cool to see how they all worked together. Having a traumatic shared history between them has caused them all some issues, but when push comes to shove they all show up to do what they do best, save the day.
Nick and Zena were instantly attracted to each other, but they both blew hot and cold towards each other neither wanting to admit or act on the attraction one minute then all in the next. They were both as bad as each other with the way they swapped and changed their minds about each other, Zena was especially quick to anger then calm down and want Nick's attention. They were entertaining and I enjoyed the banter between them, and they did work well together.
This is a series whose storyline will carry through, the trauma the team previously experienced was caused by a group called Scorpion and they are determined to hunt them down. Add in trying to find the boss of the crimes they've just uncovered and there will be plenty of action to come. This book set up the background of the players well and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Two sisters Brooke the biologist and Zena the roller derby manager are spying on Arrow Dynamics seems to be the culprit that is poisoning the river water and the turtle hatchery 40 miles away. Brooke dragged Zena with her and now that they have been seen they are literally running for their lives because the guards from Arrow Dynamics are shooting real bullets at them and when they run downhill toward Brooke's car they are cut off and as they run uphill they hear a loud boom they figure the car was blown up, as they keep running up the mountain they find themselves in the abandon Diamond Mine, the problem with that is that they have no way to climb out and they cannot see far enough into the cavern behind them to try and find another way out. Nick aka Blade a Retired Special Ops team leader is having breakfast with one of his ex-team members Levi who was going through his own issues all of them were that made it back from the war. But later he gets a call from his ex-girlfriend when he sees her name on the phone he answers but is not happy to talk to her but she begs for his help or rather her sister does but when he arrives he finds some guards riding toward a burned-out car parked on the dead-end road they took the tag off. Nick strikes out to find the girls and he calls and tells them to call out he eventually gets there and sets up and rope to pull them out but while trying to help Brooke pull herself out Nick falls in they talk Brooke to climb out but by that time she is seen by the guards and even though Zena tries to scream out Nick puts a hand over her mouth they cannot get out and her phone is dead and he has less than 40% but he calls Levi to help but has no luck they start walking through the mountain they make to a place they think they can get out but it is out of their reach and they have to move on it was a good thing that he had Brooke throw his backpack down before she was caught now they have to find a way out and save Brooke before it is too late as well as themselves. An action-adventure romance and the characters are intense and witty. Drama, mystery, suspense, danger, violence, unpredictable, scary, love, and HEA. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Brooke, a marine biologist, believes that a company is releasing toxic waste into the river near Risky Shores, Australia. It has led to declining numbers of turtles at a nearby hatchery. With her sister Zena, they set out to observe the company’s activities, but never expected to be hunted by armed guards intent on capturing them. On the run from the guards they accidentally fall into the shaft of an abandoned mine. After some debate, Zena convinces Brooke to call her former boyfriend to rescue them. Even though it has been years since Brooke hurt Nick, he reluctantly responds to their plea for help and the trouble just continues to grow from there.
Nick has been out of the military for a year after a mission gone wrong. His team had been set up and their equipment was sabotaged. Nick also lost his best friend on that mission. When he becomes trapped with Brooke and Zena he reaches out to a former team member for help.
Kendall Talbot writes thrillers that grab you from the first pages and hold you to the very end. While Brooke was Nick’s former lover, there is an attraction to Zena that adds an element of romance. When Brooke is kidnapped Nick calls in his old team to save her. What they discover in the process is a major drug operation and a vast area of barrels of waste.
This is Talbot’s first story in her Alpha Tactical Ops series. It introduces the members of the team and gives you the opportunity to see them operate under pressure. She also provides a teaser for the second book that will have you eagerly looking forward to its’ release. Her Escape Mission is a must read for anyone who enjoys a high octane thriller. I received a copy of this book for my review from the author through Booksprouts and I I thank her for a most enjoyable read.
Escape Mission by Kendall Talbot Alpha Tactical Ops #1
Two women trying to save endangered turtles end up in danger themselves. Great beginning to a new romantic suspense series starring Australian ex-military as lead characters.
What I liked: * Nick: nickname Blade, team leader, lost his best friend and comrade in arms on mission that went wrong, seeking revenge, attracted to Zena but fighting going there * Zena: roller derby athlete, sister, strong, runs into trouble spying in big business, caring, enjoys cooking, strong, resilient, attracted to Nick more than a little bit * Brooke: Zena’s older sister, lawyer, marine biologist, environmentalist, once Nick’s girlfriend, wonder if she will have a story of her ow * Meeting the people that will form the Alpha Tactical Ops team * The writing, plot, and storyline * The action scenes * The way the team works together * The Australian setting * Wondering if and when there will be a resolution to why the last op the team went on for the military went so very badly and * Knowing that there is another book to look forward too
What I didn’t like: * Everything I was meant to dislike – the company/companies doing evil and whoever will be revealed as the traitor that set the team up on the mission that failed before this book began
Did I enjoy this book? Yes Would I read more in this series? Yes
Thank you to Booksprout and the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
A new series has arrived with a bucket load of interesting military hunks and super women who join us to save the day. The hero (Blade) falls for the heroine (Firefly) after they both fall down an old mine shaft and appear to be trapped with no way out. Her sister is there too. They discover dangerous, illegal plunder stored in the mine and are pursued by Bad Guys for days. It feels like weeks, but eventually, Blade's rescue squad arrives to eliminate some of the threats and everyone goes home. Well, actually, a lot of the Bad Guys don't make it out alive. Kendall Talbot has written several thrillers with murder and mayhem but this one stalled out a bit with the couple underground. They had nothing to do but each other. I wasn't crazy about either lead character. I felt like the book had been hijacked by an editor in the last few chapters because the quality of writing declined and too much fluff got inserted. I'm looking forward to another round in the next books when the new company Blade created saves lives again. It will have his buddies running a tactical ops team. Luckily there are smart talented women included. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
This book has a little bit of everything, keeping you on the edge of your seat until you read the very last word. It also left me wanting to read more stories about the new Alpha Tactical Ops. The book begins with Zena and her sister, Brooke, scoping out an industrial site near their hometown looking for proof that the company is polluting the nearby river. Their snooping is discovered and as they are making their escape from the gunshots and bad guys they fall into a cavern. After thinking of everything possible, they finally call Brooke's ex-boyfriend who was recently discharged from the military. Blade cannot believe it when he is contacted to rescue his ex and her sister from some hole. Once he arrives and sees some of the damage and catches a glimpse of the bad guys, Blade soon realizes that the girls are in way over their heads and he might be, too. What started out as a mission to try and save the local turtle population, soon turns into one nightmare after the other. I loved the storyline and the characters and the mystery. I hope it won't be long until the next book in the series is released.

I have loved Kendall's books and series for quite a while and this just proves to me why that is so Another fast fun read that never stops with plenty of suspense and drama and a damaged hero and the slightly tainted woman he falls for all while him and his team fight corporate pollution
Brooke and Zena have always lived in Tainted Shores and Brooke has always loved the sea turtles that call it home but something is killing the hatchlings and she suspects it is chemicals from a local factory Soon she and her sister are staking the factory checking it pout but they have to be careful Zena is on parole for a misdemeanour and if they are caught she will be serving time. What they didn't expect is that someone would start shooting at them. Now they need help and the only person Zena can think of to help them is their ex neighbour Nick (Blade) who has returned from the military minus a friend and a career soon he is knee deep in their dram and needs to call in he old team to help all while fighting his attraction to Zena can they solve the situation and have they both finally found what they have been looking for You will have to read to see
First book I’ve read from the author and it was an enjoyable read. Lots of action, suspense, danger, and mystery from the beginning. I enjoyed the characters and the intense storyline, it was non-stop from beginning to end. There was a lot of push/pull interaction between the two main characters, Blade and Zena, that was both funny and frustrating at times and even though they ended up together it still felt like some conversations were left unresolved. Hopefully, more will be learned about them as the series continues with the next book. I’m a sucker for animals in stories and I loved that Blade kept his promise in relation to Zena’s dog, that was sweet. There’s a lot of interaction and conversation tidbits from the rest of his team to lead into their own stories and continue the mystery and investigation of the sabotage and traitor to their unit. Good start to the series.
*I received an arc from the author via Booksprout and I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
Escape Mission (Alpha Tactical Ops #1) by Kendall Talbot may be labeled as romantic suspense but it is also a timely look at some big business views of the environment. Zena and her sister may have feared that, Zena would be in trouble for breaking parole but they weren’t prepared for the danger that suddenly surrounded them. Who’s Zena going to call? Sister’s ex-boyfriend, ex-army hero Nick, that’s who.
Of course the writing is amazing pulling me right into the story of these characters. While Nick, Zena, and her sister Brooke all have their baggage it only serves to make them that much more approachable and credible. I found that I needed them to succeed in spite of their flaws or maybe because of them. Jaw-dropping suspense and sizzling romance, make it an absolutely riveting read. I highly recommend Escape Mission.
An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher/author through Booksprout which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Set in the author's Australian homeland, marine biologist/eco-warrior Brooke and her sister Zena, (a paroled, roller-blading champ) discover they're in an Erin Brockovich-like scenario, where no-one else plays by the rules when it comes to protecting corporate profit margins.
As they flee murderous attackers, Brooke's caught and dragged away; Zena contacts Nick/'Blade', Brooke's ex, (an Afghan war hero) for help, and he in turn summons a team of his former comrades to take on the ruthless enemy ...and maybe find love where he least expected.
Character-driven, all-action and with a steamy romance to add an extra dimension - Kendall Talbot certainly knows how to grab the reader by the imagination and hold on tightly til the last page. Get a copy today and dive into a great adventure, in Escape Mission - it's a winner!
Brooke, an environmentalist, and her sister Zena have a great respect for nature. As they investigate to find a reason for the smaller numbers of turtle hatchlings, they run up against big business dumping toxic chemicals into Thunder River which can harm all wildlife. Their investigation through spying on Arrow Industries puts them in serious danger as the company wants to permanently silence them by any means that they can.
When the women fall into an underground cave, Nick Silva (“Blade”) and his teammates come to the rescue. Will they all escape with their lives? Will they be able to stop the bad guys from the harm they are causing? And how will Nick deal with his unexpected feelings for Zena?
This book is full of adventure when Brooke and Zena are discovered watching a company that Brooke suspects dumping toxic waste. When they are discovered they fall into a mine shaft with no way out. Zena reaches out to Nick, ex-army, to come save them. He ends up being stuck with Zena while Brooke is kidnapped. The book takes you on an adrenaline ride as Nick calls his team for help to save Brooke. There is attraction between Nick and Zena with Nick denying that it can go anywhere. The story allows you to feel the guilt Nick struggles with for his team for a mission that ended bad and he doesn't feel he deserves to be happy. Full of adventure, suspense, guilt, forgiveness and love.

Escape Mission is the 1st book in a new series by Ms Talbot and the first about a Special OPs ream bases in Australia that I have read. I loved the little snippets about the landscape and the country! But that is not all that this book has going for it. We get an introduction to the men and women making up the new team as well as some info about their background all while they come together in a rescue mission. There is nail-biting suspense with a lot of unexpected twists, intense attraction and a well-deserved HEA. A great start to the series!.

Wow, this is a fast-paced story with lots of action, suspense, conspiracy, and some humor. Zena and Brooke, her sister, want to find out what's going on with the turtle hatchlings. Somehow they get caught snooping on the corporation that's dumping chemical waist. They are dodging bullets' and need help so they look to Nick, and hit tactical Ops team for help. Will Nick and his team keep the girls safe? Will Nick (who used to date Brooke) get together with Zena? Will they destroy the corporation? Grab this story and hang on. Loved it.

Kendall Talbott's 'Escape Mission' was a riveting read. The fast-paced page-turning plot was filled with action, intrigue, suspense, more action, and bits of levity. For my part, I had an adrenaline rush for most of the narrative! Oh my!! Moreover, I loved the colorful language the author used, especially the similes such as, "He turned to me with a glare as sharp as ice picks." Furthermore, I loved the contrasts in a couple of lines as well, "She nodded as a predator. I nodded back as jittery as a junkie in a police station." The author knows her craft and knows it well. Kudos to the author for portraying the very feminine Maya "Ghost" as holding her own with the males who had been in the military when they were tasked with rescuing Brooke. I enjoyed reading the narrative. I received an advanced copy. I am voluntarily giving my honest review.
I can't wait for the next book. A sassy female and an alpha man must survive an adventure. Zena and her sister Brooke are trying to figure out why the turtle population is decreasing. Brooke and Zena go to investigate a company Arrow Dynamics that Brooke believe is poisoning the water. They get chased and fall in to an old mining shaft. They call Brooke's ex ,Blade, to rescue them. He hates Brooke but goes to rescue them anyway. He finds out quickly that something huge is going on. Their adventure begins.

This book with grip you from the start and not let you go. Talk about fighting bug business and risking your life to save Turtles and the environment. This book will have you on the edge of your seat rooting for Zena and her sister as well as the hubknof a protector they call in for help. Amazing read. I will defjnately be reading more from this author. Bonus it all takes place in Australia!.
