***Now includes Free Bonus Book, Everything To Me*** As Dr. Grace Evans worked her way from war zones to natural disasters, a mysterious man was always watching over her. Co-workers at the international relief organization joked that she had a guardian angel. Over the years, she’d come to trust him, despite not knowing his name or how he knew what he did. But if he said it was too dangerous for her team to stay where they were, they left. Until one day, Grace goes too far, and her mystery man doesn’t get there in time. Held hostage by a dangerous dictator, there’s only one man who can save her. And this time, there’s no hiding who he is or why he’s always watched over Grace.
Grace is a doctor with the IRC and she has been since med-school, travelling to all the hot-spots in the world. She works to the point of exhaustion and some people even call her reckless and she has a guardian angel who she sometimes thinks is a dream, he's been there for her, guiding her out of trouble, keeping to the shadows, using different accents. When she meets him again he kisses, saying he's just a man and real.
Then Grace is kidnapped and he appears after an absence of eighteen months rescuing her yet again and comforting her when she is dis-oriented and hurting but again keeping to the shadow, she knows nothing about him. When she comes to she's in a cave, still not completely safe and she does find out he's a soldier and after a while his name as well Sean.
Sean Douglass first appeared in Dangerous to Love, he's Jamie's brother, a former pilot and now works at the Pentagon, he's deeply connected. Sean watches over Grace and knows the truth about her that she's hidden for twenty years ever since her whole family with her Noble Prize winning father was wiped out in a bomb-blast. Grace has been running ever since, refusing to live fully or make any connections, and when Sean tries to talk about that Grace tries to use the chemistry between them.
Sean is honourable but Grace is his weakness, he's watched over her, wanted her, trying to make her stop running and be happy and been half in love with her but Grace doesn't want to feel again and Sean is clearly dealing with his own guilt.
You see Sean saved her when she was eleven and feels guilty that he didn't stop the bombing. I enjoyed the book but it is not my favorite by her, Grace wallowed too much and then I didn't like her when she hurt Sean. And the book was a bit long atleast it felt that way to me.
Sean had to come to accept that he was human and couldn't stop anything and Grace had to take a chance on living again and honouring her parents.
I saw the blurb for this via Bookbub and it sounded so intriguing that I spent the 99 cents to purchase it. I figure I got 99 cents value.
The good: catchy idea—a mystery man is always on hand to rescue a “Doctor’s without Borders” type of doctor from certain death, and has been doing this for years. What can I say about the mystery man without giving away spoilers? He is interesting and hot. The heroine has a tough job as a physician in some of the toughest places on Earth.
The bad: This story had so much potential but it disappointed. The mystery man staying a mystery became an irritation. The fearless doctor was a stereotypical flighty female who runs into places she shouldn’t and says emotional things that she shouldn’t. The subplot with the South American terrorist was a nonstarter and went nowhere.
And the sheer number of descriptive words...on and on and on and on and on and on...you get the point. I felt like I was reading the world’s longest monologue at times.
This should have been wonderful but I am forced to give it an average rating of 3 stars because it just did not have star power as a book.
I won't lie. At first I was reluctant to read this book. I didn't like the paranormal reference to the guy. I've read so many paranormal books that one more and I would shout at that time. So, I made myself check here the reviews to find out what this book was about. If I read that it was about a girl that was always in trouble and had a guardian angel to help her and blah blah, I would close the book at once and leave it alone. After reading a good review which almost spoiled the whole story I was assured that it would be, at least, readable.
So I read it. And surprisingly, it turned out to be good, pretty good if fact. Hayes' writing at the beginning reminded of my own (a bit confusing but full of details) and also it reminded me of a draft I posted here in GR and I am loathing to admit that I judged it real bad. (It's not that I like my writing style but I know that it's far from perfect). Thankfully, by the time I finished it, I had made my mind up. It was pretty emotional for a romance book and also I liked the fact that the heroine didn't behave like a brat, accusing everyone and everything and worshiping the ground in which her savior walked. It was touching and wasn't the type of book that screamed: It doesn't matter that the situation we're in is impossible, we're heroes in a book and thus invincible! (I hate it when they do that)
Enough with my rumblings. Here is a small description of what's happening in the book.
Grace is a doctor who works in dangerous places, traveling around the world and earning the reputation of being reckless. People like working with her in the different war zones she's with her team because there are stories surrounding her. Of a man who appears to warn her off every time danger will come on their way. Grace herself thinks that it's her guardian angel and she always does as he says and she trusts him. That mysterious man-being is always helping her and her team leave unscathed any danger behing them. Until Grace is taken by a criminal and the nameless angel comes to save her, she doesn't believe he's even real. But as they wait patiently for a break in the weather to escape, Grace will have to face truths and feelings she has long buried about her long-dead family and make a leap in faith with Sean, her guardian "angel".
Dangerous To Trust by Teresa Hill is the first book in her Spies, Lies & Lovers series and I absolutely loved it! I have read all of her new writings and when I noticed that Dangerous To Trust is coming out, I put it on my Google calendar and got it when it came out! She did not disappoint me! She gave us another great story filled with human struggle and second chances and hope at the end of the day! Dangerous To Trust is the story of Dr Grace Evans and her guardian ‘angel’ Sean Douglass. People might mistake the story to be paranormal based on the synopsis but that is not the case … it is a beautifully touching story filled with twists and challenges that touches everyone’s heart. I fell in love with Grace and felt for her struggle … I found Sean to be one of those heroes that will haunt you long after you have finished the book … what an extraordinary man who is carrying the burden that rationally does really not belong to him … I encourage you to pick up a copy of the book and spend an evening with Grace and Sean and take a note of the time when the next book is coming out! Thank you Teresa and please keep them coming!
So, I had very mixed opinions reading this book. On one hand, I felt parts were too quick (not enough build-up with him 'watching' and 'being there' for her over the years) and others a bit too drawn out (the back and forth frustration of not trusting and her so quickly falling into 'shock' moments considering she'd supposedly been working in war zones for so many years). The one thing that I really appreciated though, were some of the emotions that went into this. This book almost as if the author was going through some personal things and all those real live emotions seeped into these pages. This book had crazy wonderful potential, just didn't quite meet the mark for me.
Completely head over heels in love with this novel. Romance, adventure, mystery and strong leading characters make this a page turner from beginning to end. I spent the first half of the book frustrated with the hero, wanting to know his secrets and when they came out it was so much better than I'd imagined. Love the way things progressed and how things were wrapped up in the end and I'm very much looking forward to the next book. I haven't been able to get Grace of Sean out of my head since I put the book down. 100% recommend it!
What is it with authors creating books that don't end on a good note, but with cliffhangers? This is the third time in a row where this has happened. As I've said before, I am retired and living on a fixed income. I like to support the authors, but making numerous cliffhangers is just crazy. Do the authors even think about what they're doing to their readers, or is it just about the money for them? I'll not read or buy another book from this author and will let others know how they write. I do not recommend this book.
Didn't like it very much. I would expect a trained doctor to be smarter, able to think rationally. 20 years of denial instead of seeking treatment. Add total lack of gratefullness, TSTL and blaming a man who isn't responsible for the loss of her family and you have the heroine in this book. I disliked her. The hero feeling guilty all this time and keeping her safe from afar was a lot of dedication but I wonder how he could love her. He didn't even know her.
I liked the story. The premise, the characters and the predicaments. I didn't like the fixation on raging hormones and the great effort to keep them in control nor the pages on pages it took to do so.
What a suspense ...very well built up story. "heart-wrenching tale of honor and justice, loyalty and betrayal, and love and forgiveness" (Romantic Times.) Couldn't have put it better myself
The first story was great. I love how he is always her guardian angel. The dream becomes them. They heal each other. The rest of the reading is clips of other books.
Did not finish. Slow, into it 5 chapters before anything happened. This book was a reprint by the same author just using a different name and added scenes. The cover doesn’t lend to the book.
This powerful romance with an underlying thread of darkness, had me enthralled from the first page. Dr Grace's guardian angel has kept her and her team safe on more than one occasion. No matter what the circumstances or how hard she tries to lose herself in her work, when the tingling sensation alerts her to his presence, Grace feels more alive than at any other time in her life. Their interaction over the years has been brief, but those moments have come to mean more to Grace than she could anticipate. So when she is taken by surprise, and her guardian angel is not there to rescue her, she feels devastated. Sean has a history with Grace, but it is one that he keeps to himself. Nevertheless over the years he has kept a watchful eye over her, ensuring her safety at all times, despite the grey hairs she gives him when she deliberately volunteers in war-torn areas of the globe. When she is kidnapped by a dictator, Sean once more swoops in like an avenging angel to rescue her, but this time he has no choice but reveal more of himself. The story reaches a devastating climax which leaves two lost and lonely people hurting with inexplicable pain. Dangerous to Trust is very well written with an incredible flow of language, carrying the reader along in the flow of the story. It has all the ingredients of a good military romance with a powerful ending. Although this book is part of a series, it is nevertheless a standalone. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Although there are exciting happenings in this story, most of the conflict is internal and deals with the characters overcoming past traumatic experiences. The romance is sensual and there is a lot of anticipation/sexual tension. The mysterious leading male has a code of honor and is definitely a swoon-worthy, Knight-to-the-rescue type of guy. The protagonist is a highly capable female except when she’s been drugged by bad guys and memories of her past trauma are brought back. Then she needs a hero. Who wouldn’t? There is a sweet love story tucked in this modern romance set in a war torn Central American location. The love scenes are R-rated steamy but not overwhelming detailed to earn an X-rating. Because the relationship is so deeply considered, the physical expression of their feelings is more classy than lurid. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy the psychological journey of falling in love more than spy/action scenes.
There are errors here and there in the writing, most seem to be toward the end, but overall they are not too distracting.
International Aid Doctor Grace lost her family under tragic circumstances when she was a child. She has dedicated her life to caring for the victims of war and natural disasters.
Throughout the last decade a mysterious man has appeared at the most critical times telling Grace when she and her team need to leave a location, keeping her safe.
When she is kidnapped in Central America her unknown hero comes to her rescue. Grace finds herself falling for him even though she still has so many unanswered questions.
I enjoyed the suspense and tension in the story. The author teases out each little nugget of information one at a time, leaving you guessing. Who is this guy? Why is he watching out for Grace? Will they escape the kidnappers?
Great chemistry between the main characters. There are some descriptive love scenes.
The only negative I had (for which I minused half a star) was that for someone who said she rarely cried, Grace spent so many scenes in tears.
I would definitely read more by this author and will look for the next book in this series.
I know he’s not real but dayum I just found my book boyfriend!!!! This book was riveting! It was emotional! It felt almost real! I love books that pull me in and make me feel! This was that book for me!!! If I could rate it a million stars I most certainly would!! I don’t know if I want to keep reading the series because I might be disappointed if the others aren’t as well written as this one. Sean Patrick Douglass you can come save me from myself anytime! I loved the mystery behind the man and how he disguised himself from Grace. I could’ve stopped reading right after he told her his first name I’d have been happy just leaving it at that. Thank you for an amazing piece of work! This book is swoon worthy! Just one more thing I think this book should’ve came with pictures because I could picture each moment in my mind but I probably wouldn’t have gotten it right. Honestly this book review was hard to put into words.
What an interesting book, once I realized it was military I didn't think I'd like it but it goes to turn out I actually enjoyed it! The whole time I was on the edge of my seat thinking is she in danger, what's going to happen next, is she gonna get hurt, how long is her torcher. Sean was a surprise, I didn't expect to read about his identity not really being known until the end. The Author really did a number on these characters..... it was I believe for people to draw on a connection some how when reading it (very emotional) It was really good on world building I'll have to give that to the Authot. The one thing a felt this book needed was less talking and more doing I do admit I got bored a couple of time because the story draws out a little ...
So much craziness. Sean and grace have had quite the relationship over the last ten years. But little does she know he has know her for much longer. Close to 20 years. He has watched out for her and protected her and been there to get her out of sticky situations with her dangerous job all over the world. But she has always protected herself from others at the possibility of loosing more of those she loves. Their story was crazy. And when the truth comes out about their first meeting and the years of pain and anguish and guilt both of them have carried for two decades. It takes time to mend the wounds. But they were perfect for one another. Loved them and their story.
Beautiful, suspenseful, heart stopping, intriguing. I loved this story, couldn't put it down so I finished it in one day. It took until the end to get all of the questions answered but they tied up beautifully and we got our happily ever after. Two souls joined by a single tragedy that controlled their lives for 20 years before the complete truth could come out and make them both see that they each needed the other.
Intriguing, at times scary, one you will read to the end.
Incredible story. Grabs you from the first word and never lets go. Very original, story and characters are so realistic that you are with them. Danger is real, the love is real. Everything fits together all the time, and-a few tears.
The first story involving Grace and Sean was about a human Guardian Angel looking after the doctor and getting her out of sticky situations and their ultimate meeting of minds and body, which all made for enjoyable reading. The second which was a star crossed sort of tale between 2 people who love each other but are afraid to let their feelings show and because of that it was a frustrating read as there was no conclusion to the story
I LOVE THIS BOOK! I've read it several times and will probably read it again. I don't know why I love this book so much, but I love the character Sean. I dig empathic, hunky , quiet and sexy men, and Sean fits the bill perfectly. Yeah, I love this book :)
This was an interesting read,a little long in the explanation as to why Sean thought it wouldn’t be good for them to be together, but still,a good read ! Lots of action...
This story is so intense, it made my heart ache for what Grace has endured and how she processes what happened in her past. She fights the same past as Sean does and they both struggle how to deal and heal! I loved this story so much, looking forward to the next one.
Well written, kept me wanting more, lots of emotion in all the characters. It was hard to figure out Sean's secrets , that he held for 20 years. But, it was a wonderful surprise to see that they both over came their fears. Life does hold many mysteries.
I read Dangerous to Trust and I completed it in one day. I found it very entertaining. I didn't read the book put at end of book. I respect the author for telling you in advance the series would have cliffhangers.
