The hunted now becomes the predator.

I bit a vampire. I sunk my teeth right into his flesh and drew blood, and I liked it. Now, I’m craving blood as if I’m a creature of the night. I’m far from it. My family has been hunting and killing the bloodsuckers for centuries.

So it comes as a horrifying shock when my aunt catches me licking blood off a knife like its cake batter. Panicking, she calls someone who she thinks can help me. Little does she know that dangling me like a carrot to Sam Mason has consequences no one is prepared for, especially me.

I’m not ready to deal with the cocky Vampire Navy SEAL who rocked my world so hard, my brain is still recovering, and my body is still tingling.

But when I find the powerful Sam Mason and my aunt chatting like besties, my heart almost stops beating. If my uncle finds Sam on his property, he’ll burn him alive.

Little do I know it’s not my uncle I have to worry about. One of my sisters decides that I’m better off not falling for a bloodsucker. I assure her I’m not. But she knows me better than I know myself.

Now instead of killing vampires, I’m rushing to save one. I pray I can’t get there in time. Otherwise, my family will suffer a fate worse than death.

The Predator is an enemies-to-lovers, paranormal, military romance, and the second book in the new Vampire Navy SEAL spin-off series. Layla and Sam’s story is a slow burn romance with a feisty heroine, snarky banter, action, suspense, off-the-charts steamy times and ends on a cliffhanger. Layla and Sam’s story starts in The Hunted and should be read first.

(audiobook) It was better and worse than the first book at the same time.

Better because there were a couple of unexpected twists that made it very entertaining. The balance between the plot and the romance was quite good too. It’s still a lightning fast instalove with a touch of fated mates trope, which isn’t for everyone, but both Layla and Sam show some more affection besides the obvious attraction. Though the love confessions happen very early in the relationship, they were still cute.

That also showed consistency in the characters. Sam is devoted and feels a lot of love–hidden behind a rough exterior–while Layla is stubborn and the conflict between her loyalty towards her family and the friendship and love she feels for their longtime enemies is the focus of the story.

I wouldn’t say the same about the side characters, who sometimes made incomprehensible decisions. They change side or contradict themselves quite often.

The sexy times took another meaning with Layla and Sam developping real feelings for each other, and what had been disturbing in their intercourses in the previous book become proofs of passion and love.

The worse part was the multiple unnecessary repetitions. Way more than in the first book. It’s supposed to NOT be a standalone, so of course people who are reading this book also read the previous one, there’s absolutely no need to repeat everything from the first book, nor for the flashbacks from the previous series, every other chapter. An author should assume their readers are smart, not have the memory span of a goldfish.

It was frustrating, because there was enough action and events to make it a fast paced book, but instead it drags a lot. You could literally skip a chapter and the plot wouldn’t have moved forward much.

The narration was also way better. The annoying tics from the female narrator have disappeared, leaving a solid narration. The male narrator expresses the subtle changes in Sam’s feelings quite well. A slightly better audio than the first book.

Quickie

- Series: Vampire navy SEAL: Sam & Layla #2 (ends on a cliffhanger, and references a lot another series by the same author)
- Hashtags: #paranormal romance #military romance #romantic suspense #enemies to lovers #surprise pregnancy #vampire #vampire hunter
- Triggers: violence and death, lots of blood, including blood play
- Main couple: Layla Aberdeen & Sam Mason
- Hotness: 3/5
- Romance: 4/5
- + Sam admits his feelings and it’s kind of cute
- – it draaaaaaaaags

I’m not gonna lie. I struggled this one. Not for any reason other then I know S.B. Alexander plans for Sam and Layla to have four more books. I am super excited for all of them, however I am the type of reader that likes to have all the books before I start reading if they end on cliff hangers.

This is book two, and book one ended with a big question on if Layla and Sam would find their way back to each other, and what was making Layla sick. Those questions are answered in this one, but I was left with more questions.

Layla’s family is a whole deal. Not only her uncles, but by the end of this book we had to add her sisters and cousins to the list. I am still unsure of Jordyn. Shoot at this point I have no idea where most of her family stands.

I have so many questions. For the sake of spoilers I will not ask all of them, but I will ask…. What the hell was that ending? My heart was pounding and July can’t come soon enough! I have fallen in love with Sam and Layla and will be cheering them on.

I flippin loved this!! This is book two of Sam and Layla’s story, in the Vampire Navy SEAL world!! Sam…oh my god, he is totally sex on a stick!! He is freaking HOT!! And he is crazy about Layla!!

This was full of shocking twists and turns, like the first book. There’s a MAJOR cliffhanger, but we won’t have long to wait for the third book, thankfully!! The over-all plot flowed from book one into book two…seamlessly. The characters (all of the major ones) have been so well-rounded, in Webb and Jo’s series and now continuing into Sam and Layla’s series.

So if you like Paranormal Romance, with a sexy SEAL Team, lots of action, shocking twists and turns, and some very sexy scenes…then you will adore this series!! I just finished and I already want to read it again!

It’s never a dull moment for Sam and Layla. After finding out some pretty important news the shock hits Layla hard. She’s at odds with her family over their hatred of vampires. She and her sisters are slowly learning more about their family, and some of the news is surprising. While their former enemy is locked up there are still threats for Sam, Layla, Jo and Webb. The book is in constant motion from all the personal turmoil for Layla to the fear of her uncle’s attacking. Please do not read this book until you’ve read The Hunted first, there are connecting stories and cliff hangers. I was fortunate to receive an early copy and have written my review voluntarily.

Wow Sam and Layla’s story just keeps getting better. Absolutely cannot wait for the next book as this one ended on the mother of all cliffhangers so the next book can’t come out soon enough. Definitely need to read The Hunted first but this series is amazing and you should definitely read it. 100% recommend reading this series and Vampire Navy Seals series that is Sam’s twin sisters story about how they came to be vampires.

The Predator by SB Alexander is an enemies-to-lovers paranormal romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Blake Lockheart and Cecily Foster. This is the second book in the Vampire Navy SEAL: Sam & Layla series.

This is the second series of Susan's that I have read and it won't be my last. I am really enjoying the relationship between Sam and Layla. I liked that we got both of their points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

The book ended on a great cliffhanger that left me begging for more. I can't wait for the next book The Union to be released on July 12, 2022.

Blake and Cecily did a great job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to reading more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this series if you like enemies-to-lovers romance, paranormal romances, military romances, slow burn romances, or romantic suspense.

The Predator is pulse-pounding and riveting—a perfect combination of scandalous moments, action, and spice. I was on the edge of my seat, anticipating each upcoming scene. Sam and Layla's chemistry is off the charts, and the story moves along flawlessly. I can't wait for the third book!

Intensity that leaves you ready to scream at the top of your lungs. The urge to rail at the villain, cheer for the hero and heroine, jump to your feet in anger and storm around the room. The cliffhanger ending to The Predator is going to leave you rushing for the next book, The Union. This is a quick paced read that had me rushing to flip the pages. I just had to know what was going to happen next with Sam and Layla. This is not your typical vampire or Navy SEAL read. Everything that you thought you knew about vampires is thrown out the window and a fresh new perspective is taken for this series. I'm not about to give up any secrets, they're too juicy and you have to read this for yourself!

Layla is struggling to find a way to justify a human falling for a vampire so she runs home to Montana, hopefully leaving her problems behind in Boston. She's not just any regular human either. She comes from a long line of vampire hunters. She's supposed to hunt vampires, not fall in love with them. It doesn't help that Sam is drop dead gorgeous with green eyes that change to quick silver when his vampire side comes to the forefront. He's everything she could ever want in a partner: caring, protective, and easy on the eyes. Him being a vampire is the absolute worst thing possible considering what her family does for a living. It doesn't matter that her body craves his blood after having a taste recently. Now it has become necessary for her to live. Between her family hunting Sam and their arch-nemesis who is still trying to capture him, the couple has more than enough on their plate. Throw in trying to figure out a silly little thing like emotions and how to work out their relationship troubles, they should be able to figure it out sometime in the next hundred years.

My poor heart was pounding, my fingers gripping the book so tightly they were bloodless. I was ready to toss the book across the room and I was filled with terror at the cliffhanger! But what a way to go!

Totally un-put-downable!!!

What an amazing rollercoaster! Book 2 in S.B.Alexander’s Vampire Navy SEAL continuous the breathtaking story of Sam and Layla right where we left it after book 1. The twist and turns of this story kept me glued on my kindle screen. My jaw dropped on the floor a few times at the revelations that come to light as the story progresses. I got all the feels – I cried, laughed, swooned and yelled to my kindle constantly. I LOVE Sam and Layla – especially Sam. He is a strong, determined, overprotective and swoonworthy hero, even when he has to deal with a stronghead, determined, stubborn woman as Layla. She is his match in every way. The news about what their future holds startles them, but in reality it just confirms what we all know – that they are perfect for each other. Now, there are some characters that I want to strangle or at least smack on the head, but I have faith in our amazing writer to find a way to at least redeem themselves as the story progresses or be flat out removed from the equation. The cliffy in the end got me anxious to put my hands on book 3, because I’m really pulling my hair out at the way things end – I really, really, REALLY, need to know that things will turn out OK.

All in all, it was a great read that I HIGHLY recommend. You need to start with book 1 first, but I guarantee it is totally worth it. 5 well-deserved stars from me.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Couldn't put this down!!! Pure action filled FUN!❤️‍🔥

Get ready for one epic, adrenaline filled ride of your life! You will feel all the feels, and have fun going on all the twists and turns in the journey of Sam and Layla. My goodness gracious, if you felt their "meet cute" in book one was jaw dropping then buckle up buttercup . Book two packs an even BIGGER punch if possible with betrayal, surprises, shocking family reveals, ACTION, and family drama at some insane levels. Then again, when ones family are Vampire Hunters I guess that's to be expected eh? But to be fair, even for this family, some of the revelations are indeed mind blowing. Gosh I adore this book/series as it's filled with strong women, alpha men/vamps, snark and witty humor galore, family in many forms...whether by blood, chosen, military, etc....and love. Ties bind tighter in this gem of a read yet some seem to snap. With a big bad or two on the loose it's now more important than ever to band together and keep everyone safe. Easier said than done. Get ready to become extremely invested in these characters you'll fast feel as if you know. The action is only just getting started!!! I have a feeling there's even more to come in the next book. Prepare now for a MASSIVE cliffhanger at the end of this book. I for one am already desperately wanting book three now....*chuckle* yup I'm greedy like that, but this series is JUST THAT AWESOME!!! If you haven't read book one yet I *highly* recommend grabbing both books 1 & 2 and treating yourself!!

This instalment of S.B Alexander's new spin - off Vampire Navy Seal series the reader gets to experience the adventures through Sam Mason, whilst the first series we tended to see more of the storyline and the Mason siblings introduction to their new lives as Vampires. This series concentrates more on the ever sexy, powerful and still a little mysterious Sam Mason and his incredibly sexy attachment to Layla Aberdeen, a hunter from a long line of vampire hunters. But Layla is no ordinary hunter with a distaste for the blood suckers, but one drawn so heavily to the sexy Sam Mason in ways that she shouldn't be!

This book we see their relationship taken to the next level, one that is going to totally blow so many misconceptions and seemingly cause so many problems for both the vampires and the vampire hunters.
Again Author S.B Alexander has created such wonderfully entertaining characters, ones that you will both love and hate and ones that you will want to follow yourself. Great mix of steamy romance, enemies to lovers theme, fated mates, slow burn romance but filled with typical alpha concepts and a wonderful strong yet feisty heroine. Not to forget great suspense and enough mystery to leave you wanting more.

I was provided with an advanced reader copy for a fair review.

This is part two of Sam and Layla’s story. I will start by saying that it does end in cliffhanger, which I dislike, but for this series it works. I am already waiting for the next book that comes out in July. Sam and Layla. Layla is a vampire Hunter. Sam is a vampire. Layla‘s whole family hates vampires even her sister has turned against Layla and has tried to kill Sam. Something huge happens with Layla, and new information about her mother comes to light, but I can’t tell you without spoiling the story. Sam has declared his love for Layla in both words and actions, however, Layla is reticent to return the words even though she has the feelings . We see more of Sam‘s family in this book with Jo and Webb and his dad Stephen. We also learn more about Sam‘s not so great childhood. I really enjoyed book one Hunted and I have enjoyed Predator. I am looking forward to book number three. If you like a high suspense love story and the supernatural, you will enjoy the series. I recommend it.

A fluent transition from the first book to this second stunner of a story!

Sam & Layla just can't seem to get a break. As Layla learns of her pending future and the separation within her family she is having a difficult time yet Sam is there for every single moment to offer love and support. This story is compelling on so many levels with lots of twists and turns to keep you turning the page long into the night.
And yes, we have yet another cliff hanger (Hello...we expected this since there is another book to be released soon), and honestly my heart is in my throat and it can't come quick enough.
Sam and Layla are the main characters yet the secondary characters add a lot of drama, interest and more into what is their story. This series to date has surprised me with how much I'm really enjoying it and the depth into which I am drawn into the story itself. I recommend it to lovers of paranormal romance. I have added S.B. Alexander to my must read list!

Layla and her sisters are at her uncle’s ranch following the disastrous mission. Layla has been sick with no known causes. Rianne has turned on her and Jordyn. They are debating whether to return to Massachusetts or not.
Sam keeps trying to get in touch with Layla, but with no luck. He’s dealing with Ben not recovering as he should, and now the biggest issue of Roman escaping. He has an overwhelming need to protect Layla. He needs to make decisions on what is the priority.
Of course once arriving in Montana, things don’t go as planned. Layla’s family are vampire hunters, so they are definitely a problem. Layla is in danger, and Sam knows he needs to get her back to Massachusetts. Trouble commences and they have to find ways to overcome all the obstacles.
Can’t wait to read book 3!!

Wow, this series is set to be off the scale. I cant help but love Sam and Layla as characters, their banter and relationship are addictive reading.

This is a fast paced book 2, not loosing any of the draw of Book 1. S.B Alexander has kept up the pace and the story in equal measure. Her characters are rich and you find yourself drawn into their world and their lives. Jo makes more of an appearance in this book, as do Tripp and Webb. The story takes off from the end of Book 1 and we continue on throughout which more and more twists and turns. The Aberdeen’s and Roman causing more and more havoc. Lots of unveiling of family secrets in this story. Not to be missed. This is set to be a great series.

The Predator is book 2 of Sam and Layla’s story. This book is full of action, plot twists, betrayals and intrigue that grips you from the beginning and keeps you reading on. Sam is so hot and his love and fierce protection of Layla makes him even more appealing. Layla is struggling to come to terms with her feelings for a vampire, as she has been taught to hate vampires her entire life. She also has a lot of family issues and betrayals to deal with. This book helps to build and strengthen Layla and Sam’s relationship, as they also are dealing with surprises of their own. The Predator ends with an exciting cliffhanger that leaves you worrying for both Sam and Layla. Can’t wait to see what happens next!

The Predator is the second installment in S.B Alexander’s ( Vampire Navy Seal series and is also the continuation of Sam and Laylas journey All I can really say is WOW , I don’t know how S.B Alexander does it but each book just keeps getting better and better . I’m going to be completely honest I’m not usually a huge fan of paranormal romance . But when I saw that S.B had a new series out that had many paranormal elements I was completely intrigued. All I can say is I’m so glad I gave it a try - Layla and Sam’s story is so thrilling and steamy , intriguing , emotional, fun , sexy , suspenseful , full of so many unexpected surprises, and much much more . I don’t think I’ve devoured a book this quickly In such a long time .

This book ends on a cliffhanger..........but don't let that put you off, it's a brilliant read, Layla and Sam's story continues in this the 2nd book in the Vampire Navy Seal series. You need to read The Hunted first as that is book one. I'm going to be on gender books till I can get my hands on the 3rd book.
I thought the first book was good but this one just blows it away, it's fast paced and as you gripped from page one. There is so many twists and turns. Absolutely love it. Would I recommend definitely.
I have read all of S B Alexanders books and they have all blown me away. If you want a read that is going to pull you in and pull at every emotion, then this authors books are definitely ones. I have been hooked since I read the Maxwell series. Definitely another five star read.

Right from the start, The Predator had me fully invested. Picking up from where we left Sam and Layla's story in book 1, we are still realizing NOTHING is easy for this pair. Twists, turns and plenty of swoon, I devoured this book. Incredible read, that left me wanting book 3 NOW. I am impressed by the ever developing characters, and how you take things that happen to them, right in the feels. Susan Alexander has once again taken the story and left you pondering, who is the predator and who is truly the prey? Can we trust our friends, family, the ones we love?
Get the book. Dive in. Enjoy an absolutely amazing read. Elevendy-billion stars!

Audible. Spoiler alert.
This is a cliffhanger series, the author gives you little bits at a time then the book basically ends abruptly and you have to continue the series. like I noted on my previous review, book 1, I detest cliffhangers, while I was pretty sure this one was going to end up in the same manner, I was hoping to get a bit more story, nope, just more embellishment, not enough story, I'm just not interested enough to go for the next book, credits are not cheap and this series is not engaging enough for me to use/ pay for it. The narration was okay, not impressed.

So, I really enjoyed Book 1. I don't really like cliffhangers though. Well, long story short, I was disappointed with Book 2. Lol!

The first book was fine where it kept me interested and the action was great. This book is just so drawn out, not enough action, too much drama, it's just bland. And why oh why, do they have to involve kids? It's annoying. They had sex once. Lol. It's so cliche to bring an innocent child into a world of drama. It's so f***ed up too. Lol. Leave them out of it.

And then you're going to leave it on another cliffhanger? The story isn't well developed enough to keep going. I'm sorry, it's just not. It's so slow and dramatic at this point. Had this novel been straight action, less drama, it would be slightly better. But it's just not developed at all. It's like when they take one movie plot and put it into three or four movies. It should have had a happy ever at the end of book 1. Lol.

Layla is trying to come to terms with her being a human and falling in love with a vampire she returns home with her sisters. Her family isn't normal. They are vampire hunters.
When one of Layla's sisters betrays her putting everyone in the line of fire 🔥. (Like a witch hunt.)
The world seems to be weighing heavily on Sam's shoulders. His dad and best friend is fighting for their life and Layla is in the hospital as well.
Layla and Sam are shocked by Layla's test results.
That was one heck of a cliffy!

O. M. G!

Let me just say that The Predator ends in a Grand Canyon of a cliffhanger! I honestly don't know how I will survive the wait until The Union is released. This series has been intriguing and vastly entertaining. The premise of vampire Navy SEALS lets the author's imagination run wild. New super powers and weaknesses keeps the plot fresh and unpredictable.
This author is a favorite of mine and I love her foray into the paranormal romantic suspense.

I loved Sam and Layla’s story. The chemistry was thru the roof. They are so connected to each other that if something happened to one the other wouldn’t survive. The fact that Layla is having a baby and it could possibly be an actual Vampire if crazy. I’m looking forward to reading book 3 in July. I hope her sister Rianne is ok. I hope she finally will get some answers about her mom’s side of the family. I’m also excited to read about her grandmother that sounds crazy. Great job.

I'm loving this series so far. Sam and Layla are born enemies, who can't keep their hands to themselves. There are so many twists in book two. I feel like I have so many questions and lots of "wtf" moments! I cannot wait until July for book three though. I need to know what the heck is happening here!
