When the annual Summer Beach BBQ smokers returns to St. Mo's beach, Murder is on the recipe. With Mortimer and Basil set to judge the newly added Chili-cheese-dog competition, discovery of the deceased puts the fires on ice.
Can Twiz and her friends clear the smoke enough to untwist the mystery, and keep someone else from getting burned?
Alyn Troy is an American from the Midwest (Indiana) who writes The Mystic Brews and Pixie Twist series of Paranormal Cozy Mysteries. In addition to Indiana, he's lived in Southern California, where the Pixie Twist series is set, and has served as a history docent on a notable pier in SoCal. In his past lives, he's been a journalist, a wedding photographer, and an adjunct professor.
Alyn gets assistance from his fuzzy familiar (AKA "Lord Fuzzbutt"). When not helping his human with the writing of paranormal cozy mysteries, Lord Fuzzbutt likes to sit out outside and watch the hummingbirds dart about like pixies. He often yowls at the door, waiting to head to the patio for chipmunk duty. Fortunately, the little rodents are craftier than Fuzzbutt is.
Alyn's beverage of choice is dark roast coffee with a dash of honey, and a splash of half-n-half. In addition to being half-way competent with his home espresso machine, Alyn makes a mean Mai Tai.
Alyn Troy delivers another successful Twizzle Twist! As the epic story about the fate of the pier continues, Twizzle finds herself once again tangled in the tendrills of murder and mayhem.
Troy’s red herrings are peppered throughout, and leaves no grain of sand overlooked. Dick Gates, as usual, rears his ugly head, causing Twizzle some upheaval. Star Sinclair continues to bully and influence people to her way of things. And the KGB never did know how to play nice!
But never forget Twiz always helps her friends! So it’s all hands on deck in the end to find a kidnapper and a murderer! And I do mean all!!
All this while putting out fires and still selling real estate! Alyn Troy keeps her on her toes. I am looking forward to the next installment, and what is going to happen to the pier…
he Pixie Twist Mysteries is an entertaining series but also serious paranormal mysteries. I love seeing Twiz evolve as well as the town of St. Maurice with its colorful characters. This entry raises the bar for paranormal mystery series. This is the fifth book and I hope there’s many more Twizzle Twist adventures. Twizzle Twist is excited about the local BBQ competition. So are Mortimer & Basil, mini dragons/cats who are judges in the new chili cheese dogs category. While walking around, Twiz spots her former boss, Dick Gates picking up trash on the beach under the supervision of cop Harold. He gives her the evil eye vibe since he’s been convicted of the assault on Twiz. When a new competitor is found dead in her tent, wereshark, Alek is under suspicion as the murdered woman is Russian. Then mysterious fires involving magic start erupting. Twiz & the gang search for clues but it’s up to Twiz to find the murderer & put out the fires.
As with the other books I’ve read written by this author, I can say that I enjoyed it from beginning to end. The author keeps the reader guessing until near the end when suddenly, all things happen that brings the story line together. While I didn’t get caught up in the “red herrings” of the story, neither did I know the “who did it” until the author was ready. The characters are quirky and delightful, but then I am a fan of dragons and cats anyway, though my dogs would be jealous to know that.
It’s nice to enjoy a book without profanity, without sex, and with only a modicum of violence (there was a murder after all). I could not read this after I went to bed because otherwise, I’d have to read it all in one sitting (and my boss wouldn’t like me falling asleep on the job). Great Job, Alyn Troy. Looking forward to the next story.
I've read the ARC of this book and this is how I feel about it :
A bit on the bussy side of things : a murder , tension between 2 groups of people ,wild fires , a kidnap and a cook off Twiz had her plate filled to the max !! Nice worked out mysteries, not to much red herrings but enough to keep you interrested At the end : all's well in St.Mo.......for the time being I REALLY DON'T LIKE Star and/or Dick for that matter , but in any good book there's always some one you like ánd some one you dislike
More mystery for poor Twizzle. Lots of fires happen around the place. There is a barbecue competition going on & one of the contestants is found dead in her tent. Then Verena gets kidnapped. Twizzle earns herself a new honorary title in this book, as she very capably organises the search & resue event.
Twizzle almost didn't pull this one off - but saved the day on several fronts. Even managing the perfect birthday gift for the love of her life amongst murder, kidnapping, and subterfuge. Oh! And some excellent food.
Quite a tale, this one. There is a barbeque competition with entrants coming from all over. Strange fires happen and it ends up being up to the Pixies to find the bad guy.
