I enjoyed this cozy Christmas mystery!

Skeletons in the cellar a la The Cask of Amontillado, a celebrity chef and reviewer feud, and two deaths during a snowstorm? What more could you want?

What I really liked about this book is that even though it was 6th in the series, I didn't have to read any of the others to get a feel for the characters. Gracie, our mc, is not your average cozy mystery heroine and I love her for that.

All of the characters are well-fleshed out and the twist ending makes sense and isn't just out of nowhere.

Pretty good except for one inconsistency. The power was out and the generator wasn't working but Gracie was still able to heat 2 cups of water for tea using the microwave. (Location 2343, power returned at location 2473)

Unfortunately, the writing more or less beats you over the head with values as though you’re getting a lecture rather than reading a mystery. Also, it seemed as though the author was terribly indecisive as to which story-line to actually follow. This book is also sorely in need of an editor. Simply put, there are better books to be read.

Gracie Andersen is on her way to visit her friend Marci, owner of Mistletoe Bed and Breakfast outside of the Western New York village, and is still undergoing some renovations. She’s even invited a TV personality chef named Chef Carl Flambeau and his sous chef Kristin Lee to cook there next month.

The house itself has a dark history: there’s a case of an unsolved murder and a missing spouse.

Gracie is the co-owner of a kennel and dog training facility, with her business partner Jim Taylor. Her husband Marc works as part of a security team for a defense contractor.

Meanwhile, someone has been stealing from the Deer Creek Community Church ⛪️—a hand-carved wooden nativity that’s been the centerpiece of the village’s Christmas celebration and some figures in the nativity have gone missing.

The church committee is planning a retirement party for the pastor, Albert, and his wife Gloria. At the meeting, one of the members informs her that another wise man was stolen last night and to ask her husband Marc —being former law enforcement and all — to look into it.

Meanwhile back at the Mistletoe Mansion while doing some renovations in the cellar the building contractor discovers two skeletons in a crypt.

Cozy mystery
Book Bub
⭐⭐⭐⭐

The cover was seasonally appropriate, but not totally exciting for me. I haven’t read any of the other books in this series, so I don’t know what the typical cover looks like. I’m sure they’re a bit more exciting.

The story was good enough to catch me up and draw me along until the end before I knew what might be missing. In other words, It was good enough for me not to nitpick as I went along and I had to think about it to find any real faults with it.

The characters were pretty good. Gracie, Marc, and Marci were, of course, the most fleshed-out of the characters as they were the primary ones. Marci’s trying to open a travel-themed B and B. Gracie and Marc get caught up in solving the mayhem that strikes when Marci invites the top travel world’s celebrities to view her opening. Of course, there are all sorts of secrets among the group of celebrities that start being revealed once they all arrive and rubbing elbows. The spite and venom flow along with the champagne right from the beginning no matter how polite they appear to be. The author added in all those little quirks that bring characters to life and give them personalities, that make them real. The dialogue was great. The pace was brisk and the action just flowed. I think I may need to read more in this series. Recommended. Happy Holidays!

Christmas and Murder

This is a good book for a quick read. While I enjoyed the first book, this book for me seemed a little disjointed. It started out great but then somehow things seemed to be shortened, missing or left out.
The story goes from a launch of a B&B by Gracie's friend Marci in a mansion reportedly haunted. When bodies turn up while the wine cellar is being dug out and a thoroughly obnoxious travel reviewer shows up a week early I hoped for an interesting story line, but for me that's where things start to shorten. Instead of elaborating and filling out those intertwined stories a nativity theft, A pastor's retirement and an abandoned dog were plopped in. When a ice storm hits and the power is out and the generator doesn't kick in at the mansion tea is made by using the microwave. What a magical appliance. I wish my microwave worked during a power outage.

A pleasant little festive themed cosy mystery. As with a lot of cosy mysteries it was a bit predictable, but I still genuinely enjoyed reading it.
The writing was really descriptive in terms of setting and scene, important in this mystery set up, and the characters felt real the whole time which was nice.
The switching between the two mysteries might be a bit jarring for some, but personally I felt it just made me want to read on to find the next clue to the puzzles.
Overall yes. Enjoyed.

It was a bit of a slow start and anticlimactic ending. I didn’t see the murderer coming! I loved the happy ending, though.

I’m really sorry

So sorry, I really wanted to like this book but it was just so boring. Just as people want to be notified if the book in question is particularly vulgar they should also be told if it is a church book. This one wasn’t so much about Christmas time as it was about Church. If I wanted to be scriptured I would go to church. The haunted part of it wasn’t played up enough and the writing was simplistic to the point that I think a 5th grader would be bored with it. So, again, sorry but there should be something in the description that places this firmly in the Christian category.

I know it's not December yet, but this is my first Christmas read for this season. It was good but there are a lot of people in this story. There are 2 murders and a robbery with each crime having its own set of characters.

Gracie runs the local town´s kennel. Her husband Marc is a former cop and currently a security consultant which comes in handy during one of the murders. Marci is a friend of Gracie and runs the local antique store in town. She has just bought the Mistletoe Mansion and is transforming it into a B&B.

First set of murders involve the history of Mistletoe Mansion. In the late 1800's Stephen Mistletoe was the owner of Mistletoe Mansion. Legend has it that he was a murderer and that the house is haunted. Prior to the grand opening of the Mistletoe B&B, a skeleton was found in the basement then headstones were found in the woods and not near the Mistletoe Cemetery. Are there more skeletons to be found?

During the grand opening of the B&B, Marci has invited a famous talk show chef a few travel writers, B&B association gurus, and of course Gracie and Marc for the weekend. One of the travel writers, who was supposedly recommended by the B&B guru is despised by all the guests. He is cruel, rude, and egotistic. No wonder no one likes him. He arrived early at Mistletoe B&B and created such a fuss that Marci had to tell him to leave. He came back, though. That night he argued with the chef and was found dead in the basement the next morning. The chef was found unconscious in the kitchen and later died at the hospital. Of course, this all occurred in upstate New York in December during a terrible snow and ice storm so every in the B&B was stranded. The ambulance and sheriff couldn't travel to the B&B because of the storm. Was this a double murder or murder-suicide or what? Marc has to help investigate with the aid of Gracie.

Also during this time, the nativity elements at the local church were stolen over a period of a few nights. In addition some money in the church office was stolen. What is going on? Jim is the co-owner of the kennel with Gracie. He takes it upon himself to help a troubled foster boy who is involved with this robbery.

This is the first of the Gracie Andersen mystery books that I've read. Even though this is book 6, it was easy to know the characters without reading books 1 - 5.

This is not a Hallmark romantic Christmas story. No romance at all. Still, I enjoyed it.

Whew! There's a lot going on here....

We have a centuries old murder mystery, the theft of a church nativity scene, a troubled teen in foster care, a new bed and breakfast opening, a feud between a chef and a food critic, an ice storm, and of course a new murder! That's a lot to cram into 202 pages. I hadn't read any of the Gracie Anderson Mystery Series and this is book 6 but it was a freebie I found on Bookbub that had decent reviews and a Christmas theme of sorts. Positives are a fast paced story, likeable main characters, decently written prose and editing, story complete in this volume. Some downsides are way too much going on for my taste so that no single story thread felt complete, I figured out the who for the present day murder well before the end, and for the Kindle, some of the formatting was off giving no separation between some of the paragraphs. I think reading previous books in the series would help as there are occasional references to last events with little to no explanation. I didn't care for the ending but I can't fully say why without spoiling the end. Overall, it wasn't a bad way to spend a few hours of my time and I may read the first in the series some day just to get some background on Gracie and her husband Marc, and their kennel business. But I have lots of other books to read first.

Gracie is in full support of her friend Marci opening a B&B in an old, restored mansion with a haunted past. Its going to be Christmas themed year-round and this weekend a select group of travel writers will be staying so they can write reviews and spread the word. But things a re going wrong from the start, beginning with skeletons in the basement and ending with murder.
This was wonderful cozy mystery, with a very interesting background on the mansion to set the scene. I haven't read the rest of this series but for the most part that didn't give me an issues. The characters were varied and fairly well written but the abrupt scene changes with no transitions could sometimes be hard to follow. There was so much going on that it got confusing at times and some of the side stories didn't lend much to the book as a whole. Those would be my only main complaints though, I definitely enjoyed the story being told.

Good Night for a Murder

A good story line with a good mystery. Gracie and Marc help their friend Marcie at the opening of her Mistletoe B&B. They not only find bones from a previous unsolved cold case but a new murder happens during the opening night. The murderer has to be in the B&B because the ice storm is raging outside and no one has left. You certainly will enjoy this enigma
plus another mystery revolves around the church’s outdoor nativity scene that goes missing! The four star rating is for the two plots’ changing so quickly with no *****or notification they are changing thus getting lost in the change. I had to go back several times to see which story I was reading.

Reasons for Revenge

This is the first Gracie Andersen book that I have read, so, I started out thinking that Marcie was the main character because the first few chapters featured her.
There were many stories in this one book, however, it was not difficult to keep track of all of them. I suppose the book simulates life, there are many things going on at the same time.
I liked the characters, Marcie, Gracie, Jim, the Rev., the dogs, I could almost picture them in my mind's eye and because of this I was able to become immersed in the story. So immersed that then took me by surprise, I could have read more pages.
A nice, clean read with lots to keep the reader interested all the way to the end.

When Gracie's friend Marci buy the Mistletoe Inn, she wants to turn it into a B&B. The Inn has a history of ghosts. When Marci is digging out the cellar to put in a wine cellar, they discover 2 skeletons. They soon discover another skeleton in the field near the Inn. Marci has a lot of guests coming in for the weekend, among them, a celebrity chef, his assistant and several B&B critics. After hearing an argument, the chef is found in the Kitchen, almost dead and the problem person is later found in the cellar dead. Thus the investigations begins. A side story, the Nativity scene from the church disappears. This is not a bad book, kind of slow in places, but a good read.

I enjoyed this book but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the prior books in this series. There were times I felt like I was missing some things but there were explanations of past things along the way which helped. This takes place around an old house that has been converted to a B&B, but the old house comes with stories of murders from a long time ago. The story quickly becomes a mystery as bones are found during the renovation. And then it felt a bit like Murder on the Orient Express when a new murder happens and everyone has a motive during the B&B launch. Fun read and it kept me guessing for most of it.

Gracie is helping her friend Marci with the grand opening of her Victorian B&B in a historic home with a mysterious and murderous reputation. Renovations are set back when bodies are found in the basement and in a hidden graveyard. A reviewer who gets along with no one is found dead in the wine cellar (who invited him anyway?) at the grand opening shortly after being heard arguing with a famous chef.

I found this book to be a little lacklustre and would not select another book in the series unless I had nothing else to read. I thought the future of the manor house was rather unrealistic. Money never seems to be a problem in these cozies.

A nice Christmas cozy mystery. A celebrity, Emma, comes home to her small town for the holidays. Reunions with old friends good and bad end up with an attempt on her life and unfortunately the murder of one of her fans. Of course the search for 'who done it' brings old relationships to the front and Emma is determined to find the killer. The murderer is exposed and career and old romances come to the forefront. The ending is open ended and makes you want to move on to the next book in the series to find out what happens.

Once again she has given us a couple of mysteries, during the holiday season. Who is stealing the naivety scene statues. They move the rest into the church, and they are gone. Restoration of an old haunted manor, ready for a grand opening, she hoped. A water leak, a false brick floor under a brick floor, and they found out why. An old 120 year case or was it murder.
Good flowing plot with Gracie and Marci.

Another winner!

I enjoy Laurinda Wallace's books. Gracie and her crew are always entertaining, even though they get themselves in some interesting situations. This one is no different. Christmas time and the Church's Nativity scene pieces are slowly missing. Added to that there are several old skeletons found in the basement of a renovated Victorian mansion that has been refurbished. Very interesting and that is not all of surprises in this book! Enjoy!

An enthralling combination of mysteries, with century-old bodies and two current murders, and a theft of an entire (large) Nativity scene from the church. This was the first of this series that I have read, which meant there were references to past books that I didn't recognise, but it didn't interfere with my enjoyment of this one. It needed proofreading as there were several times when a word or two had been left out, but apart from that, highly recommended.

Different!

New B& B opens and Marc and Gracie are invited to opening weekend with a blizzard threatening. Arguments occur the first evening and injured man and murdered body of another are found the next morning! Marc investigates because they are isolated. Final conclusion and other town incidents occurring simultaneously made this confusing and less than satisfying. Not the best in the series!

The Mistletoe Masion gets resurrected by Macie and is going to open as a fantastic B&B. Gracie is her friend, owns a dog kennel, and is there to support her. Supposedly the Mansion is haunted- or at least haunted by the stories of murders. And wouldn't you know it...when working in the basement to build a wine storage, they find a skeleton. And then in the floor- 2 more skeletons...AND then the obnoxious B&B reviewer is found dead, then the chef dies...A cute little holiday murder cozy.

Enjoyable

This book was an interesting mystery of an old mansion that has been converted into a B&B. Prior to the opening weekend there are three bodies found in the basement when a leak is being investigated. Gracie and her husband Marc are invited to the opening weekend where two more murders occur and due to a snowstorm/ice storm Marc is asked to investigate. There are a mansion full of possible suspects along with other things going on In the community. Loved it

Interesting Holiday Mystery

The Mistletoe Murders was a perfect holiday read by Laurinda Wallace. Marci is opening a B + B outside NY + still doing some renovations. The mansion comes with a haunted past + while digging up the basement for a wine cellar, 2 skeletons are found.
From there the mystery unfolds. There are several plots going out + the book is fast paced with interesting characters.
I enjoyed the story.

Great story!!

I enjoyed this story as I have the previous books. The storyline of the series centers around Gracie Anderson who owns the Milky Way Kennels. Different scenarios occur and she seems to always be in the midst of things. This one centers around the opening of a local B & B owned by a friend. Things disintegrate from there! The dogs are lovely, the snow is cold but Gracie is on the scent!!

Too many plots

By Chapter 9 the plots started to make sense. Good read and the conclusion in one chapter could have taken more. Some of the characters names were similar and more definitive difference would have helped the slow beginning. Knowing the author would put things together from last books was the only reason I finished the book. A simple couple of double spaced lines from each story line would have helped for continuity

A lovely easy festive read.

I chose this book because of its festive themed whodunit and read it as a stand alone, not having read any of the earlier series. Despite this it was easy to follow the plot and who the different longstanding characters were.

The plot is a murder by poisoning with a subplot of theft but with a warming feel.

I must admit that I may be tempted to read the follow on book.

Highly recommended.

Interesting story of a mansion with a strange past.

This is a quick read about several couples, and how their lives intersect. Marc and Gracie have a dog kennel. He's retired military. There's the pastor and his wife, approaching retirement. Isabella who flaunts her wealth. Marcie who owns an antique shop and who is renovating the mansion into a B&B. As their lives cross paths, curiosity of the outcome draws you into the story- I enjoyed it.
