Glitter was one of my most anticipated books of 2021 — and Abbi did not disappoint.

A first person narrative and easy-to-love characters won me over right away; but it was Abbi’s flawless execution of honoring the traditions of the genre while incorporating her own unique voice that sealed the deal for me.

Glitter is a regency romance that both lovers of historical romance and fans of Abbi’s new adult books will find themselves swooning over — I know I sure did.

I haven't read Abbi Glines in years, so when I saw she came out with a historical in first person I knew I had to get it.
I loved the writing in this. Even though it was in first person, the language was era appropriate and I really liked the flow of the story.
One thing I should have remembered about Abbi Glines was that she loves her love triangles. There was one in this book too, between two brothers.
One important thing I have to note though. This is a rather clean PG 13 read. There are no steamy scenes.

Glitter is a thoroughly entertaining, tremendously written historical romance set in Regency England.

I've read many books by this author, all contemporary. When I found out about Glitter, I knew I'd be reading it as soon as possible.

I loved it! The writing style, as always, is amazing. The plot gripping enough, it moves smoothly and at a nice pace. But it's the characters for me. Miriam and Emma simply stole the show.

Hugh and Nathaniel are stepbrothers, and while one has every intention on marrying, the other hates him so much he'd do anything to sabotage it. But none of them are ready for Miriam; charming, kind, loyal, level-headed, drop dead gorgeous Miriam.

There are also secondary characters who only add to the sweetness to the story; her sister, aunt and uncle, and of course Emma. She's four years old and the sass on her... It was so funny!

Everything combined made Glitter amusing, entertaining and enjoyable.

If you love historical romances with independent and intelligent heroines, pick this one up.

Glitter is an enjoyable historical romance set in Regency England. While this is my first book by this author, it most definitely will not be my last! Not all that impressed with the glitz and glamour of the ton, Miriam is a loving sister who recognizes that she must go through the motions to secure a husband. She is a quick witted and clever heroine which I loved. The Earl of Ashington and Nicholas are both are intriguing for varying reasons, but one of them completely won me over. Then there are 2 secondary characters that really made the book entertaining. I especially liked how the author told the story in first person all while gifting the reader with chapters told from each of the main characters’ POVs. The book moved at a very good pace until about the 70% mark when things felt very rushed. There was a good build up and then it felt as though it suddenly ended with an epilogue quickly tacked on at the end. Nonetheless, I did really enjoy this book and I do plan to read more books by this author.

Glitter by Abbi Glines was a beautifully written Historical Romance. I fell in love with Miriam. Her strength and love for her sister, willing to do what ever she had to so her family would have the life they deserved just melted my heart. She hadn't been given love her whole life but she shined with her heart full of love. I absolutely loved little Emma. How could you not love that little firecracker? This book does have a HEA and I loved it so much. I highly recommend this book!!!

ARC kindly received for an honest review.

This is probably the most refreshing Abbi Glines book I've read in a while. Whilst I haven't read any historical romance before, I did enjoy this one. I got huge Bridgerton vibes and I was very curious to see how things would play out in this little triangle that was going on.

Abbi has taken her own style to historical writing, as she advises in an author note at the start of the series, but given that I haven't read any historical romances previously, this was really not something that I noticed, but I appreciate the note she made at the start of the book as I believe that many fans will too.

Miriam and her Aunt and Uncle were really likeable characters in this, and I thought they brought the character and personality that was needed. If these guys didn't have so much personality, this would've been a much more boring read. Nicholas Compton was one that I really just didn't like, and Lord Ashington I found to be fairly likeable, just not really knowing how to approach things in the right way, especially given society values at the time. Emma was a cheeky little character that added a bit of fun into things as well.

Overall this was an enjoyable read, and I would read more like this by Abbi if she chose to continue with more historicals in the future.

Thank you for the ARC!
Love the genre switch for Abbi.
First of all I will ready anything written by Abbi Glines, so in that way I am biased.

Historical fiction is always a fun read for me, however not usually my first choice. So when I went into this one I was not sure. But as usual Ms. Glines did not disappoint! Love Triangle Alert!

When a lady is sent to London for the "season" to find a well to do husband to care for her and her younger sibling, of course you need some drama and love triangle.

Miriam is easy to love from the beginning, she stay strong and true to herself throughout the book which I love.
Lord Ashington was not so easy to love but grows on you throughout the story, which I believe is intentional.
Nicholas was a surprise, and I am happy with the way his character ended up.
My favorite character in the book is Aunt Harriet, we all need a woman like her in our life!

Enchanting!!!

I believe I became quite smitten with both Hugh and Nicholas. My heart was in a constant tug of war battle of whom I loved more. Suffice to say, I love them both equally. Though I do wish I was Miriam. This entire story was enchanting. From beginning to end I was on my toes to see which man captured Miriam’s heart. Thank you Abbi for always creating such captivating characters. I hope to read Nicholas story soon.

I enjoyed this one. Not exactly your typical historical romance, but I loved Miriam and was happy she found her HEA. Can Emma get her own book?????

2 Stars!!!

I was greatly disappointed to one of my anticipated reads this year.  The blurb sounds promising and the preview was no less intriguing.  But alas, the execution was not how I envision it.

Miriam was quite fiesty, I liked her yet I'm tired of her keeping in mind how to describe everything about London to Whitney over her letter and how she will love it.  I get it.  No need for repeats. I also get that she is searching for a husband.

The supposed love triangle that I was hoping for was just passed by. I was looking forward for more emotional involvement between the characters but I failed to see that as well.  The depth of their feelings towards each other,  rather than being shown throughout the story,  felt like I was being told instead.

This can be considered as clean aside from the kitchen scene which to be honest, I don't know why it was even included. I hate the lack of privacy.

It did tug my heart at one point but too much of the story was loosely tied. I've already reached 90% and still I've no answer.. I begin to think if this is a duet that I wasn't aware of because there's just too many questions left unanswered. Everything was just wrapped up immediately in the end leaving me unsatisfied.

This wasn't my first historical novel yet this is probably the only one to never get tired of chocolates,  jams, biscuits and tea.  I must say that it's a bit too much. Not to mention Aunt Harriet's barefoot, her loud voice and  most of all their addresses.

The book wasn't bad since I managed to finish it. I just hoped for more depth in the story and great closure.

This is a bit different from other Abbi books. This is time where young women are sent to balls in the hopes of finding a well-to-do husband. Miriam did not want to marry, but it was what she had to do. Miriam was a bit of a diamond in the rough, oh she was beautiful, but unlike the other demure young ladies, Miriam didn't shy away or flirt, she was blunt and honest. I adore the Miriam character, I believe her and I could be great friends.
This story had many emotions triggered for me. Anger towards the childhood of Miriam. Respect for what she was willing give up. Heartache for Whitney and for Miriam (towards the end). I absolutely adore the final few pages. All the questions were answered. The heartbreaking Compton's where explained. It has a fitting happily ever after. Any Abbi Glines fan will luv this book. Any romance fan would luv this book!

“How did she do that? Appear so utterly beautiful. The sort of beauty that made a man do stupid things.”

"Glitter" by Abbi Glines is a regency romance written in first person, the story of Miriam Bathurst who at 18 needs to find a husband to help her family and more importantly help her younger sister, who she loves with all her heart.

The characters:

“Whereas she found it sad that I wasn’t happy with my outward appearance, I found it tragic that ladies put so much importance on beauty. Was that truly what should make me happy? Something that is rather fleeting, is it not? One will not stay beautiful forever. Looks fade and life continues on without a care. Shouldn’t I seek happiness in something more substantial? These were thoughts that had plagued me for years and I knew voicing them to my aunt would be as pointless as sharing them with my mother. They wouldn’t understand.”

Miriam was a quite likable heroine, I loved her strength, her grace and her determination to do whatever she can to help the people she loves. Her chapters were definitely enjoyable to read. I admired the kindhearted person she had become, how she managed to bloom in a hostile family environment with a father that despised her and mother that saw her as a opportunity at keeping her rich lifestyle.

“If I am to be queen of fairies then she must be my princess. If she is the princess and I am the queen, I shall not take a nap today but dance among the flowers and eat jam all I want.”

Emma (4 yo) is just a tiny legend, every scene with her was so adorable and hilarious. If there's anyone loving jam more than Joey Tribbiani, it's Emma Compton.

(The Earl of Ashington)

“Let me be the one to enlighten you, Miss Bathurst . Your sharp wit, kind heart, measure of decency, belief in what is fair, love for family, and, of course, your unsurpassable beauty are all favorable traits.”

Lord Ashington was a hero I, well... liked, thought I felt like something was missing when it come down to his chapters and his character as a whole. I simply can't say I 100% found myself rooting for him or that I understand why Miriam got so taken with him so quickly. Yes, he had his good moments, where he'd shower her with compliments and show interest, but his attention would shift easily, he'd avoid talking with her about his true intentions (why he needs to get married) and in the end chose to ignore her instead of clearing things up. His claim at suddenly having such deep feelings for Miriam and his wishy-washy actions just didn't match in my eyes. Not to mention how his move after getting all *personal* with Miriam's privates and then ghosting her was to keep charming another Lady in front of her.

“Waiting until that time now seemed difficult. After last night, I did not wish to go another night without Miriam in my home. Preferably in my bed.”

It truly felt he was mainly focused on finding a fitting mother for Emma and later getting Miriam in bed. The connection between him and Lady Bathurst wasn't strong enough. At one point he went from 0 to a 100 and just decided to jump Miriam, because his body (and the alcohol) was telling him:

His character just paled in comparison to his rival. In my humble opinion, that is.

I can't help but mention the fact his name (Hugh Ashington) is also not my favorite or how he insisted to be called Ashington. It was off-putting. Anytime I read his whole name I'd read it as Hu-ge Ashington. No clue why. Quite hilarious though.

The positive thing about Ashington: What I couldn't help but absolutely cheer on/admire: His views on Emma, constantly saying how amazing she is, wanting to do right by her and give her a better life/shelter her from the London gossip society.

“There was such intelligence in her tiny face and I was proud of it.”
“I wanted Emma to keep that spirit and strong will. Breaking it wasn’t what I desired at all.”
“How would having a wife change this? Would she handle the situation like the one I just dealt with similarly ? Was I doing anything wrong?”
“I wanted Emma to want more for herself than to only seek others’ happiness. I wanted her to make decisions that would make her smile and I wanted her to have the life she deserved.”

And now onto my most favorite character in this book besides Emma...

“I came to London seeking revenge and instead I found you. You, Miriam Bathurst, changed everything. The anger, the bitterness, the hatred, it all melted away and all that was left was you. All I could see was you. All I wanted was you. You saved me from my own inner Hell.”

I went into this book having heard people say it's a love triangle, so I was prepared to some degree to have my emotions played with. In the beginning I was so torn between Nicholas and Ashington, a sad pendulum swinging back and forth. But at some point I found myself starting to root for Mr Compton fully, wishing, hell, praying I don't get second syndromed.

“She was dangerous for me, to my plans for my brother. Too appealing, too unique, too damn beautiful.”

“She reminded me of happiness and light. She made me want to be a different man. One that I was sure I could never be. Not even for her.”

His chapters just won me over, his words, how he was with Miriam, how he didn't want to hurt her despite being so set on getting revenge on Ashington. From the moment he first saw her he knew Lady Bathurst was special, his chapters showed time & time again she meant a lot to him. The Epilogue tried very hard to change your mind about in what way he loved Miriam, something I don't buy: that Ashington loved her in a greater way, how they're like magnets, yada, yada.

“Why her, Ashington? Why Miriam? She’s kind and selfless. Her laugh can make a dark mood vanish. She forgives and holds no grudge. She’s smart and can talk of literature most females don’t know exist. Nothing with her is ever dull .”
“It sounds as if you’re taken with Miss Bathurst,” I drawled, attempting to sound bored while white hot jealousy was coursing through me at the fact Nicholas knew these things about Miriam.
Nicholas took a step toward me. “I am in love with Miriam Bathurst. The problem is I fell in love with a woman who is in love with you. How unfair my life does seem, Brother. You were never worthy of her. One day I hope she sees that clearly. She deserves to be loved and cherished. You, however, do not deserve to wake every morning with the gift of that woman by your side.”

Miriam: I hated that I was comparing the two, but it was difficult not to.
I absolutely felt that, sadly, we seemed to find different men worthy of winning, honey.

- Miriam's sister (Whitney):
“I don’t miss home, I miss Whitney. She is home to me.”

I wish we saw more of Whitney, especially after hearing so much about how important she is to Miriam. The younger sister made an appearance in the beginning of the book, once Lady Bathurst was whisked away to London to find a husband, she kept hoping Whitney would visit. The moment said awaited visit finally happened, all the attention in the book was put on Ashington, we hardly saw Miriam and Whitney have a moment/scene for themselves.

The Epilogue gives me hope for another book and hope for Nicholas getting a happy ending. Fingers, toes, everything.. crossed.

- Miriam's American Aunt (Lady Wellington): Another legend. She was such a great comic relief and a true supporter of Miriam, the mother figure she missed her whole life.

The writing:

The writing was in typical Abbi Glines' fashion: catchy as all heavens. I found myself turning page after page, not realizing how many chapters I've read in one sitting. This book was such a breath of fresh air while reading The Monster. The story flowed so amazingly, the plot kept you invested, the descriptions sucked you right in and made you feel like you're experiencing everything infolding in person.

The Expectations (from the promo line/blurb):
Lies, Deceit, Vengeance, Desire, and Hate…wrapped up in a façade of all that sparkles and shines.

I went in expection quite the drama and betrayals.

Which leads to addressing... The Let-downs: In ways the story's drama was quite underwhelming if you go by the blurb. Still, the book was an absolutely enjoyable & easy read. It successfully made me miss a regency drama tv series (Elisa di Rivombrosa) I used to watch when I was little to a point I'm definitely going to rewatch it for the third time soon.

To sum it all up: "Glitter" by Abbi Glines is a great take on historical regency romance, a book with wonderful characters and story that keeps you invested until the very end. If you're in the mood for such a read, I definitely recommend grabbing this one.

For Abbi: Nicholas so needs his own book. Pretty please with all the jam in the world on top.

Prepare to be glittered in Regal Love!

Glitter by Abbi Glines is the first regency romance book written by the author. The story of Miriam Bathurst and a suitable suitor. In wanting more for herself, Miriam finds herself tethered to social expectations for women and enters the marriage mart. Miriam makes a resolution and travels to London in securing a husband to tend to family obligations, joining her aunt and uncle, making her purpose candidly known.

“Your sharp wit, kind heart, measure of decency, belief in what is fair, love for family, and, of course, your unsurpassable beauty are all favorable traits.”

When Miriam finds her family’s welfare is dependent on entering marriage, she has no other choice, and with her sister, Whitney, being the most important reason to do so. As for Duke Ashington, he finds himself in need of finding a mother for the child who has entered his life, which only a wife would be able to set right in London society. And who Ashington chooses from the marriage mart will only intensify the vengeance sought from Mr. Compton. The vendetta between the Compton men soon becomes apparent to Miriam, while her reasoning for going to London for family obligations is made known. And, as mischievous as Nicholas Compton is, his encounters with wanting vengeance towards Lord Ashington are quickly challenged. But at what price? A marriage of convenience, or for love and to whom?

“I am here, Miriam Bathurst, because I am in love with you and I cannot bear to lose you…You consume my thoughts, you fill the void inside me, and I never believed that I would feel this way about anyone!”

There are secrets and contentions, Whom will Miriam choose?

Overall, this rating was given for world building, wonderful characters, and leaving the reader wanting to know more for the remaining characters. And as a reacquainted reader to the genre, I found the book to be easy to read, which is sometimes not typical of historical romance. However, I felt like a bridge of romantic unity for the final couple between the last chapter and epilogue, was missing. Also, the Tri-POV style was different, but helpful in character and story development. Lastly, Emma was a sweet homage to the author’s daughter, Emerson, who is the light of the story. If you like the delicate charm with building angst of the regency era, then “Glitter” shall deliver.

I reviewed an ARC voluntarily, and look forward to future novels by the author.

The first part of this book was boring which was odd since it had 2 heros. I was mildly interested but I started wondering if it was YA because the first 2/3 of this book was lacking in any sexual tension at all, in any direction. Not even a kiss. Then at 78% we get the first kiss and and a pretty hot heavy petting scene complete with a ripped night gown… the emotions finally are engaged and the ending was decent, if rushed. I liked that it was pretty obvious who was gonna be the hero pretty early, so it felt more like OM drama than a true triangle. I also liked how she tied up that situation. No one dies or leaves bitter and devastated.

Overall I liked it but I wished there had been more emotions and tension earlier in the book.

Trigger warning: no actual full Smexx happens in the pages of this book.

Release all the glitter cannons! I love this story so much! It was so hard to put down! I haven’t read a historical romance in forever and a day. I love how Abbi leaves breadcrumbs for you to find later and then you are just SHOCKED! I love all the strong women in the book. I loved that there was actually an Emma chapter! Nicholas was nice and you fall in love with his words butttttt you know Miriam had to follow her heart! I love how Ashington comes off cold but it is one of the most loving, honest and generous guys to ever come out of Regency London. Miriam’s family dynamic is amazing besides her mom and ahhhh I so hope there is a book two! I want to know why Ashington and Nicholas stopped talking since they were close before. Like why Nicholas’ hatred ran so deep? It was the perfect book to lose sleep over and uncover all the answers! Lol

Quotes I loved:

I wasn’t fond of people in general. It was as simple as that. They annoyed me with their behavior. I preferred truths and I had found very few who spoke the truth. Most only worried over how they appeared to others.

“I will, uh, that is Lord Ashington, I will give up my spot, uh, if you desire,” Mr. Fletcher stammered nervously. I wanted to roll my eyes at the ridiculousness of his words. Was Mr. Fletcher that weak? What could Lord Ashington do to make him so nervous? Had I not just declined Lord Ashington for him? “That won’t be necessary, Fletcher. I find my attention has shifted elsewhere,” he added and then walked away through the path the others had supplied for him. The insult wasn’t lost on me. I did not expect to converse with Lord Ashington again.

I found it tragic that ladies put so much importance on beauty. Was that truly what should make me happy? Something that is rather fleeting, is it not? One will not stay beautiful forever. Looks fade and life continues on without a care.

I just couldn’t be sure I was brave enough to find out his depth. If he was closed off to protect himself then that I understood completely. For he had no idea the lengths I would go to in order to protect myself. Maybe it was we were kindred spirits and nothing more. What an interesting thought.

However, I knew forgetting her would be an impossible task. Miriam Bathurst may just haunt me for eternity.

“Let me be the one to enlighten you, Miss Bathurst. Your sharp wit, kind heart, measure of decency, belief in what is fair, love for family, and, of course, your unsurpassable beauty are all favorable traits.”

Yet, here he stands watching the most interesting bright light in the room or make that all of England.

I couldn’t remember a time in my life that joy had burst within me so brilliantly than when Whitney stepped inside the door of 18 Mayfair Street. Tears filled my eyes and my chest felt so full it might burst.

“Are you? Truly grateful?” I was confused and taken off balance for a moment as I nodded slowly then said, “Yes, of course. How could I not be?” “Then for this weekend, could you try addressing me as simply Ashington?”

Miriam Bathurst may not be what one would consider the perfect countess, but she may indeed be my perfect countess.

The trees leaned toward each other at their tops, as if reaching to embrace a loved one. Birds flitted from branches as the sunlight that broke through made the path appear as if it were meant for fairies instead of humans.

I wasn’t sure how to handle it. I wanted Miriam Bathurst in my life and in my bed. I just needed her to want me for herself. Not because I would be exactly what everyone in her life wanted.

“I read novels that take me to another place and time. They give me an escape from the reality in which I live.

Whitney oft spoke of the sparkle and shine of London. She used the word glitter when speaking of it. However, this has been so much more than any ball in London could ever be.”

“Good morning, Emma,” Miriam said, taking the seat beside her and silencing the entire room. One could hear a pin drop, and in that moment, I realized Miriam Bathurst had been keeping her own secret.

When I say that you cannot marry Nicholas, it is because I love you. You consume my thoughts, you fill the void inside me, and I never believed that I would feel this way about anyone. Please, Miriam, don’t marry Nicholas. Whatever he feels for you, it is not to the depths of what I feel. You own me.”

“I knew after that first encounter that something about you was unique. I did not realize you would change everything for me. My beliefs, my desires, and my dreams. For now, I have none of those without you. You are everything I never knew I needed in this life but fear I cannot live without. I love you.” Miriam’s hand gently squeezed mine. “And I love you,” she replied.

This is Abbi Glines first attempt at writing a historical romance and she did an amazing job.
I have always loved her flair of drama and angst combined with a great romance and she didn’t fail me in “Glitter”.
I really liked the way the story was build and it intrigued me from the get go

The story centers around Miriam Bathurst a daughter of a late baron who needs to marry to support her mother and especially her younger sister who has been in an accident and need surgery.
She meets Lord Arlington who she dislikes at first sight and his stepbrother Nicolas who is his total opposite. One is looking for a wife and a mother for his ward and the other is looking for revenge but what happens when everything changes and who will she choose and does he choose her too?

I truly love Miriam’s aunt and uncle who just embraces her and supports her and they become the parents that she never had. Her aunt is American and she brings the comedic relief in all the drama. Their love and support for each other is truly beautiful to see and I understand why Miriam strifes to find a marriage like theirs.
The two brothers are also amazing and I loved them both but I actually came to like the redemption of Nicolas the best. He is the most interesting of the two and Arlington is a little to tame and fickleminded.
Miriam is amazing and she wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. I really loved her first meeting with Arlington because she wasn’t a scared little mouse who disappointed a lowerstanding man of ton because an Earl used his rank. Go Miriam.

I can definitely recommend this book and this is my honest opinion.

Wow! I was looking forward to reading this (Abbi is one of my favorite authors after all), so I knew I'd like it--but I more than loved it! It's become one of my top reads of 2021.

“I did not realize you would change everything for me. My beliefs, my desires, and my dreams. For now, I have none of those without you.”

Miriam Bathurst, at eighteen years old, is off to London to stay with her aunt and uncle for the season. To her, a loveless marriage of convenience paints a dreary picture of her future, but she will do whatever it takes to provide a happy life for her younger sister. Right away, Miriam catches the eye of two men. One is looking for a bride. The other is looking for revenge. They both find her. Suddenly, Miriam is tangled up in sibling rivalry and feelings she never expected to have.

“You consume my thoughts, you fill the void inside me, and I never believed that I would feel this way about anyone.”

Glitter is romantic and the atmosphere and historical setting are the perfect escape. The writing style was lovely and whimsical and it still has Abbi's signature style. And for those afraid of love triangles (I hear ya...), Abbi does it right! It managed to be unpredictable, yet not painfully so. I truly loved these characters. Every single one was endearing. I have to say, I love who she ended up with, and I'm hoping for another book about a certain other pairing...

“You are everything I never knew I needed in this life but fear I cannot live without. I love you.”

I hadn't expected Abbi to release a historical romance, but my oh my she knocked it out of the park! Please write more!!!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I could not put this book down! I love Regency romance stories. This one was such a delight to read. I was in love with Miriam from the beginning, her personality just draws you in, it is something that during that era was much frown upon and to always see characters like that, because I am sure there were lots of women like her that weren't talked about makes it all the more fun to imagine what it could have been like. Much like her I found myself falling for both brother's at the beginning. Me for some reason I levitated towards Lord Ashington, there was something about his persona, how he handled himself that I loved from the moment his character was introduced, and although Nicholas was a great catch as well he just didn't call out to me as much as his brother.
I had a hard time putting down the book, the interactions between characters are fun, light and full of life. There are some spicy scenes, which I always love to see a tiny bit of that in historical romances because romance readers we always need a bit of that. I love that Abbi didn't over do it in this book. Perfectly executed

Abbi Glines never disappoints! I was slightly worried because I really dont enjoy historical romance but my lord this was amazing! I should have known she'd make it her own. I laughed with Emma's antics, and was guessing until the very end. The sheer personality of ever single character in thus book is so beautifully laid out and I can see all of them, as always with all of Abbis books. Cannot wait until the next book!

Wonderful

I have read every book Abbi Glines has released so far. She never has let me down. I was nervous about this book due to it was totally different than her other books. I hope Nicholas gets his own book. I want more 😩 the story line was not forced, it was funny and little Emma I could picture clearly causing trouble. I was left on edge waiting to find out who she would end up with. Very happy with how this story ended! Congratulations Abbi! Job well done.

Wow. I didn't mind that you tried something different for you. I love a good regency novel set in England. However, its not all that clever of a plot. Perhaps your readers don't read cross genres for the most part. I have read so many regency and this has a very simple plot written very simple.
So, it may please those who haven't read much recency.

There wasn't much depth to the characters. I loved Emma and she seemed to be the most interesting character besides Aunt Harriet. Aunt Harriet is so eccentric because she's an American who speaks LOUD and doesn't seem to wear shoes or socks much of the time. Ridiculous because it amuses Miriam to no end. Emma was just wild and too smart. That's about as deep as it gets. The main characters are very simple.

The entire book was pretty pure but the kitchen scene gave it a R rating. Not sure why it was necessary?? It doesn't get repeated and it remains pure from there after as well. Odd. I'm no prude but its so far into book that it wasn't necessary for the urgency character.

So Abbi, you get a star for attempting something different but my five stars are still on your beach series.

Blurb on Goodreads says Nathaniel but book used Nicholas??

Miriam Bathurst, 18, reluctantly leaves behind her beloved 12 year old sister Whitney, who walks with a limp due to a fall from a horse, to move to London with her Uncle Alfred and Aunt Harriet. After their father passed away, they were left with his gambling debt and a mother who doesn't pay much attention to either of them. Though Miriam is being sent to London for the marriage mart, she would much rather spend her time reading and writing novels. However, Miriam knows that the only way to support Whitney and her mother is to find a husband. Though she misses Whitney, Miriam finds her Aunt Harriet, an American, to be a real hoot and someone with whom she loves to spend company. She also feels a sense of pride from her Uncle Alfred, something she never once felt from her cold, insensitive father. After Miriam makes her appearance with the ton, it seems there are two young men both hoping to make her their bride. The only problem is that the men are half brothers, fiercely competitive, and both devilishly handsome. Lord Ashington has all the women charmed, but he only has his sight set on Miriam, her beauty and spunk captivating his attention. His half brother, Nicholas Compton, however, is merely trying to ruin Ashington's chance with Miriam, so he begins calling on her as well. Though Compton knows how to impress Miriam, she can see through his game and know he is not courting her for the right reasons. As the half brothers come to call on Miriam, often running into each other, the story becomes rather humorous. And it seems that Lord Ashington is hiding a bit of a surprise from Miriam. A surprise that really makes this story so much more special, in my opinion. If you are having a Bridgerton hangover and need something to tide you over until the next season is released, then look no further. Abbi Glines has outdone herself, writing a historical regency romance that is both well-written and fabulously researched. This is a slow burn romance with plenty of drama. I also love the huge role that sibling relationships play in the story, whether through the loving relationship of sisters Miriam and Whitney or the combative one of Ashington and Compton. I would highly recommend this entertaining story of elegance, family, and romance. Thank you to The Next Step PR for the early review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Unlike other historical romance stories this one is written in the first person with strong female characters for the period in which it was written.
Miriam a beautiful, intelligent, strong willed and outspoken women is in London looking for a husband for financial security for her family after the death of her father.
The Earl of Ashington and Mr. Nicholas Compton, brothers who are at odds with each other are both vying for the attention of one Miss Miriam Bathurst.
Emma, a bright, curious, mischievous little imp was an absolute delightful addition to the story and gave me a few chuckles with her antics. Throw these characters together and you have a very enjoyable story.
Well done Abbi.

Glitter is Abbi Glines first historical novel, written in the first person… Miriam is sent into London society with only one goal on her mind to find a suitable husband not only for herself but to give her a little sister the life she’s so deserves. The Earl of Ashington is looking for a mother for his secret child, well Miriam is everything he never knew he wanted could she be the proper society wife?
Enter the Duke’s brother who wants revenge on him and his plan is to use Miriam to get it.

The characters in this book made this book, Miriam, Nicholas, Whitney Aunt Harriet, Emma …I hope this continues into a series and we get to read more about these wonderful characters.

Job well done Abbi! I greatly enjoyed this new historical romance.

I loved Miriam and her personality. Strong willed and her devotion to her family was admirable. Lord Ashington turned out to be a great man that proved worthy of her affection. Their chemistry was so good! Lady Wellington was a hoot and Emma was a breath of fresh air with her mischievous behavior and youthfulness.

Edited Manuscript

It's a unique historical romance written in first person, with multiple perspectives, which I enjoyed. Loved the supporting characters so much...there are two in particular that you will adore.
