CANDACE IRVIN is the daughter of a librarian and a retired US Navy chief. Candace grew up in the Philippines, Germany, and all over the United States. Her senior year of high school, she enlisted in the US Army. Following basic training, she transferred to the Navy’s ROTC program at the University of Texas-Austin. While at UT, she spent a summer in Washington, DC, as a Congressional Intern. She also worked security for the UT Police.
BA in Political Science in hand, Candace was commissioned as an ensign in the US Navy and sent to Surface Warfare Officer’s School to learn to drive warships. From there, she followed her father to sea. Candace is married to her favorite soldier, a former US Army Combat Engineer. They live in the American Midwest, where the Army/Navy football game is avidly watched and argued over every year.

A gripping start to a series that focuses on women veterans!
As a woman veteran, I am a devoted fan of Candace irving and her novels featuring strong women who have survived trauma and lived better lives in spite of it. Crossing the Line is a military Romantic Suspense that is book one in a series about four women who met in a ROTC program in Texas. The series is named Sisters in Arms after the pseudo sorority they formed while attending college. What I love about this novel is the comaraderie portrayed between the four women. No matter that they are in different services and even seperated by different countries and war, their friendship remains strong. All four women would willingly sacrifice their careers and their lives for each other. Candace's talented writing reminded me of the bond I share with my former classmates I met while I served in the Army Nurse Corps. Perhaps her empathy and understanding of military women is honed by the years she spent as a Navy officer herself, but Candace Irving characters are so well-developed and evolved, they could be members of my own unit! Candace Irving is an incrediblily talented and delightfully creative author. Her writing is always a great read.
Crossing the Line does not disappoint when it comes to edge of your seat suspense. Besides a helicopter crash, there is a chase through the jungle to escape rebel insurgents, sabatage, and a romance as steamy as the jungle the main characters are stuck in. From the first chapter to the last, I was riveted to this book, and unable to put it down until I was assured that Rick and Eva would get their happily ever after! There were so many twists and turns and unexpected betrayals I was not sure a happy ending was possible! However, Candace Irving shows that depending on the Brotherhood or in this case Sisterhood can help in even the most impossible situations! There is so much passion, emotion and action crammed into the pages, I finished the book in one setting and immediately downloaded the rest of the series.
I can hardly wait to finish this review and start on the rest of the series! I recommend you read Crossing the Line for yourself. No mere review can do this novel justice. You can only understand how truly talented Candace is by experiencing her writing yourself.
This was a great book. It was fast-paced and had a good deal of suspense. Even through all this, the author developed the character extremely well. I fell in love with them both and were cheering them on. Both were so strong, but it was great when they showed a bit of vulnerability. I will be searching down all the books by this author as this was my first to read by her. Great read!!!!
WOW! I couldn’t put this book down. Captain Paris, and her co pilot, and best friend was attempting to get some other soldiers back to the presidential compound within the next hour. Her black hawk crashed in the jungle. She had to watch as her best friend dies in front of her. Captain Paris lost everyone on her helicopter that day besides Captain Rick Bishop. With her injuries she has to depend on rick to help her. Later on it was determined the accident was her fault, and she was stripped her wings. She and rick takes a trip back to the crash site for answers. They find that the helicopter was sabotaged. Rick, and Eve shared some steamy kisses in the jungle on both trips. Rick stops himself from letting the passion they feel burn out of control. He stops himself partly because of the military code of justice, and partly because of the guilt he feels for his sergeant’s death. He also has some past demons to deal with. Eve gives Rick his space, and time each time knowing she two has guilt of the crash. It took Rick awhile to see what he could have, but he finally woke up. I loved this book, and will be adding it to my favorite’s list. This review does not do this book any justice. It has so much passion, tender caresses, and love. It also has gut wrenching emotions. This is a book you will just have to read for yourself.
