Capturing Cleo took a while for me to warm up to but I did enjoy it a lot.

Luther is a homicide detective and the ex-partner of Ray Madigan. Luther never knew his dad and felt his mother died of a broken heart. He is cynical because of the job and what he feels are the people and what they have gone through around him. He walks into Cleo's establishment for a case, her ex-husband has been murdered and is shocked to find that she is the one singing there and he feels attracted to her.

Cleo doesn't pretend that she is sad over the death of her ex. He broke her heart and made her life miserable even after the divorce. The lessons she learnt because of him, make her trust no-one. She doesn't date as she doesn't want to put herself through that hurt. At first she doesn't like Luther, he is pushy.

But he decides that they should pretend to be together so that Luther can hang around and observe.Later on, Luther decides to back of the case since he can't stay away from Cleo but then someone else is murdered.

I liked seeing Luther struggle to make sense of Cleo. She added colour into his life and I loved the little system they had of giving each other gifts, the ties were a nice touch. For both of them trusting was hard but Cleo opens up first. I liked how Luther realized that he had made a terrible mistake with Cleo doubting her and allowing his cynical view of life to colour everything. Cleo didn't back down and told him to leave even when she knew that she could forgive him.

I enjoyed how Luther stuck to his principles even when he struggled hard to keep his hands of her. The book was good, the characters better.

Capturing Cleo

I love the old oldies. I love the blues and the jazzy blues. But I really could almost see this book one the big screen. It had a lot of ins and out with the murders. And yes, Jack really was a weasel. The only thing he did right was give her back her rightful property.....
