A good regency with elements of secret operations and traitor chasing spy stuff - by the h!
What's not to like?

The h is a strong, determined spy who 'infiltrates' the home of a traitor who got her father killed. the idea is to find proof against him. The man is married to the H's ex-SIL (widow of his dead older brother) and who has two adorable but emotionally lost girls from her previous marriage. These kids pull at the heartstrings so. The elder one as a bible spewing fanatic is too original.

The h's connection to the H?
The h's associate and fellow spy, H of book #1, is a friend of the H and manages, without evoking suspicion from the H, to get the h posted as a governess at the SIL's home, a neighboring estate of the H. At first, I wasn't so sure about a 'spy ring' that does not involve the H - at all.
But the H, an earl, as a good-natured, endearing and confident character, manages to make a space for himself in the story. When he gets injured, the h nurses him back to health and they get to spend more time with each other. He's intrigued by the strong willed and independent governess who rebuffs his romantic overtures. But never turns churlish and never loses his charm.

The paranormal touch, with the h's lifelong dreams about the H without (seemingly) having ever met him and the younger child's visions, adds another compelling dimension to the story. The h/H have met as children and are distant cousins in fact from their mothers' side and so the psychic tendency in the h and the child, is from a great-grandmother.
The traitor and his self-absorbed daughter make for interesting villains.

The plot is good, the characters strong, the writing quality and I especially loved the epigraphs by Shakespeare. Only, towards the end, I felt it should have been wrapped up sooner. But the ending is satisfactory and action-packed - as expected of a spy thriller.
I especially adored the fact that the h-H invite the SIL and the girls to make their home with them at the end. Because it's so obvious that the girls need the h in their lives.

Enjoyed this one. The ending had a scene with a more gruesome bend than I expected, you are forewarned it is not all sunshine and flowers but the villain gets his denouement eventually.
