I BARGAINED WITH THE BRATVA-- MY BROTHER’S LIFE FOR MY OWN. They offered me a deal: thirty nights for my brother's life. Thirty nights...with him. Nikolai Novikov. The charming but dangerous loanshark.

“I need you to dig up everything you can on Chelle Goldberg.” “Zane’s sister?” “Da.” “Now, look who’s cyberstalking a woman.” Before Dima finally let himself have Natasha, the guy played full-on cyberstalker with her, watching her go in and out of our building, tracking everything there was digitally available on her. “Shut up or I will tell your fiance the full extent of your creepiness. I know I’m on speaker. Hi, Natasha.” “Hi, Nikolai,” Natasha says with a laugh. “What’s the full extent of Dima’s creepiness?” “Nevermind, we don’t need to go there,” Dima says. “So, you want the full dossier on Chelle?” “I want everything.” “Give me a couple days.” “I need it tomorrow.” I end the call as Dima’s telling me he’ll see what he can do. I know the guy can do pretty much anything and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I may have let Chelle go just now, but that doesn’t mean I’m finished with her. In fact, I’m just getting started.

STORY: This was a likable story. It’s not hardcore, but still kept my interest, especially the secondary storyline with all the Bratva. Nikolai’s character was charming not too intense but still gave off the don’t mess with me vibe. His instant attraction to Chelle was cute. Chelle, I liked her, but she was mainly why I took off a star. I felt that she fell into Nikolai’s arms too easily. She was thirsty for it. I wanted her to be more afraid and mad as the situation called for it. Apart from that, I still like this series, but book one is still my favorite. That had fire and so much intensity.
SEXUAL CHEMISTRY: Sex scenes were good. Their deal was ok. Although you felt the strong attraction, Chelle took that deal too easily.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS: I enjoyed seeing all the guys and their women from prior stories. That penthouse is becoming a bit crowded. I am a fan of the series but have only read some of the couples stories. I skipped Oleg and Story’s story and this book makes me want to read their story.
OVERALL: Still very much likable plot and story, but Chelle gave in too easily and that kind of kill that fantasy And build up for me.
TRIGGERS: human trafficking, drug addiction, gambling addiction
****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.
Renee Rose's mafia tales never disappoint- she always delivers the perfect marriage of heart pounding mafia action and her trademark scorching steam. The Bookie is yet another entertaining and dynamic read- this series is just so delicious and consumable!
“The Bookie” is the 6th book in the ‘Chicago Bratva’ series by Renee Rose. This well-written and entertaining series has made its way through the members of the Chicago bratva hierarchy. Each book in the series can be read and enjoyed as a standalone. We now get to the story of Nikolai, the man who runs gambling operations for the organization.
Zane is a young man who plays at exclusive, high-stakes games run by the Russian mafiya. When Zane screws up and gets in over his head, Nikolai is uncharacteristically understanding - but the debt still has to be paid. Chelle is furious with her younger brother Zane for getting himself in such a dangerous position, but she’s desperate to save him. For the first time ever, Nikolai accepts a personal arrangement from a woman to pay off a debt. It violates his own personal moral code, which is something he has, even though he’s a criminal. But when it comes to Chelle, he just can’t help himself. She experiences the same attraction, and the same deep confusion about it.
Nikolai and Chelle were both likeable, multidimensional characters. As she tells him, “You’re a good person, Nikolai. For a bad guy.” He was tough, but he had the self-awareness to recognize that he wanted a relationship like the loving ones that his twin brother and other men in the group had found for themselves. Something about him was especially appealing. The story moves along quickly and has a lot of action. There’s a particularly shocking scene that reminds us that for all his introspection and intelligence, Nikolai is capable of brutal violence. Somehow, the way it happens … well, you just have to read it to appreciate it. This has been such a good series, I can’t wait for the next book!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I also purchased a copy.
Best one of the series! Nikolai was basically who I thought he'd be - a nice guy in the Russian mafiya. Chelle was great too. I liked both characters and I loved their story! 5 stars
The story is the sixth in the Chicago Bratva series but could read well as a stand-alone. Nikolai is the bookie and part of the Chicago Bratva under Ravil. The story will have Nikolai dealing with one of the players, Zane Goldberg, who is deep into debt. Chelle Goldberg feels responsible for her brother, Zane, and this time, his poor choices will affect both of them.
The story’s plot will have Nikolai knowing about Zane’s sister, Chelle; he only scares him into believing he would go after her. Will this be enough to straighten Zane out, or will a feisty Chelle become involved? Zane will use his Mustang as part of his payment owed to the Bratva, and the title is at Chelle’s apartment. What a shock when she comes home and finds Zane on her couch, and he has been beaten up. Rather than allow her baby brother to handle his own affairs, she finds the address for the next poker game and approaches Nikolai, and now it is game on. These two have a love-hate chemistry. She avoids players and determines that Nikolai is nothing more than a player—but she also knows that she could possibly make a difference in the debt being erased. Will Chelle trade herself to pay down the Bratva?
The story will have Nikolai doing something he has never done before, accepting a sex contract as payment. Thirty days of Chelle being his sex slave to erase the debt. These two have chemistry, yet each holds back, not wanting to let feelings get involved—but that is probably too late. The sexual tension and exploits match these two perfectly. But, they both are worried about what happens at the end of thirty days. Is this just sex as a bargaining deal, or could it be more? One rule he has is no shop talk—he refuses to share his job or responsibilities. She does get to meet his friends and their wives and girlfriends—but she isn’t in their inner circle.
“You’re a good person, Nikolai. For a bad guy.”
The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly of the Bratva and others—like those in a motorcycle club, that deals drugs and human trafficking. It has two people, Nikolai and Chelle, who have a way of healing each other and are falling in love without trying. Nikolai has felt lost with Dima moving away and the other Bratva finding a remarkable woman in their lives—could Chelle be that for him?
“This is what I’ve been missing my whole life. You. Dancing in my living room. Filling up the empty spaces in my life.”
The story has power exchange, dominance, control, and explicit sex scenes. It has life and death danger, some violence, kidnapping, and retribution—but best of all, it has chemistry and romance.
I think The Bookie is my favorite. I have said that before, but there is just something about Nikolai. He is such a tough guy but is sweet and soft. I am sure that is not what most people want to hear when reading a Bratva book, but Nikolai is unique.
Chelle and Zane are siblings that end up on the Bratva's radar when Zane (we had heard about him in the last book) doesn't pay all his debt. Chelle wants to protect Zane from this, so she asks Nikolai to make a deal. Nikolai doesn't take it and walks away from her. But the sexual tension between these two is off the charts! Things happen naturally.
I love these two; Chelle and Nikolai are lovely characters who naturally become lovers and friends. The Bookie is a must-read story.
This is the sixth book in the Chicago Bratva series and features Nikolai and Chelle. Nikolai runs the gambling operations for the Bratva organization and when Chelle's brother Zane gets in over his head Nikolai has to pay a visit to him. Chelle finds out and decides to try and offer herself to Nikolai as part of the payment for Zane's debts. Nikolai has never made such a bargain before but he can't help his attraction and draw to Chelle. What will come of their arrangement? Are there bigger forces around them vying for Zane and Chelle? Or Nikolai?
This wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. Both characters were mostly likeable and the steam in here was fine. The storyline wasn't necessarily unique but it was engaging. Overall, not a bad read if you're looking for something short and with a bit of edge.
Kobo+ Contemporary Romance Series Challenge. Rated 3.5 Stars. Tropes: Crime/Mafia, Family/Friends, Erotica. MC's h. This is the last book I decided to read of the Chicago Bravta. This book was a little better than the last one. There was more Bravta Crime in this one, some romance and drama with a kidnapping and shoot out, also rescuing some sex slave trade workers. I gave this book 3.5 stars.
I'm so happy that I went ahead a read The Bookie. Chelle and Nicolai's story was enjoyable to read, not much tension or drama, kinda sweet. The ending was a little abrupt but it was a happy one, so that works for me. A pleasant surprise overall after reading The Soldier and still debating if I'm going to read Dima's story.
Yeah this is a Russian Mafia story aka Russian Bratva and it is part of a terrific series of Bratva stories that are set in Chicago. This is book 6 and I love this one just like I loved 1-5. Each story is pretty standalone, though the stories are interconnected in a good way.
There is some action and there are a number of 🔥 scenes that are great as well. This is the kind of book that you do not want to put down until the end. There is also a really fine HEA at the end as well. You are sure to love this book if you like Bratva Romance
Nikolai is tough but then as a Bookie you have to be. A debt is owed but when the sister comes by to settle it, things take a turn. Chelle didn’t expect her brother to be perfect but to owe 40k to the Russian Mob. Now she has to help bail him out. What started out as paying off a debt became more. Nikolai fell for Chelle when he first saw her. She was a spitfire and worth the temptation. Chelle had no interest in getting involved with a thug/criminal but the heart wants what the heart wants. Her brother Zane was a big PIA. She was always protecting him but he had to grow up. Granted their past with their father is a reason Chelle keeps Zane close. Trust has to be earned and it does take these two a bit to learn to be open. I feel for them both. The chemistry was hot though. Nikolai is as kinky as the others. You have to love that. He isn’t all brut. Sex on two legs with a dominant voice. YES PLEASE!!! We do have a few issues that they run into. I was worried that is would be a lot worse. Keep them coming Renee. TOO GOOD!!! Now I await the Cleaner, Adrian’s story.
Renee Rose has become one of my favorite authors and this book added to my liking for her! I loved the hero and his beliefs - a change to the stereotypical bratva aggressor that we usually get in mafia books. His chemistry with the heroine was amazing and the push and pull was so lovely! I was rooting for them to finally find their way to each other!
Renee Rose delivered once again with The Bookie, 6th book of The Chicago Bratva series. I knew I was going to fall hard for Nikolai from the first pages and he did not disappoint. Even though he is a bookie for the Russian mafiya and has to upkeep the books by less than savory methods such as roughing up the clients at times, it is blatant that he has an affectionate and caring side and doesn’t get a rise out of violence. Chelle, on the other hand is the responsible big sister to a troubled brother Zane. After a huge family tragedy, Chelle and Zane are what’s left from their family and being a few years older, Chelle has to take on the role of the responsible and level-headed adult at all times. Nikolai’s and Chelle’s lives cross at an unexpected point thanks to her brother, and the instant attraction felt between them jars them from their usual, somewhat meaningless lives. The electricity that surrounds them is almost palpable through the pages. Things take on an interesting route between the couple that turns into an extremely saucy and entertaining read. At one point, I was dreaming of my own Russian mafiya man handing me a few punishments 🔥🔥🔥 so I say The Bookie is definitely a one-click adventure you don’t want to miss.
The Bookie and The Sexy Sister Zane is in debt to the Bratva big time and it's Nikolai's job to collect. Zane's sister Chelle finds herself desperate to help and protect Zane and finds a way to contact Nikolai. Nikolai and Chelle find each other very attractive and Chelle ends up agreeing to be owned by Nikolai for thirty days to erase Zane's debt. The chemistry between them is undeniable and could develop into much more, until Chelle sees another side to Nikolai, then the deal is moot. I loved Nik and Chelle together, their sexy times were hot and I could have had more of them going at it 😁 I also loved Chelle's friend Shanna, she was a hoot, and instigated Chelle to do more than she felt comfortable with, but honestly, Chelle needed a push to start living a little. This was the Chicago Bratva, book six and I hope for book seven in the near future.
Nikolai is a bookie who normally gives no second chances but the potential he sees in Zane makes him give Zane one more chance to make good on his debt especially after he sees the beautiful Chelle.
Chelle is conflicted on what needs to be done with her brother but she is willing to risk it all to keep her brother safe.
Can Chelle save her brother and keep her heart safe? Is Chelle enough to make Nikolai break all the rules? ... Read and find out!
This book is really good, I loved every second and literally could not read it fast enough. The chemistry between Chelle and Nikolai is undeniable and I simply could not look away. I can not wait to see what happens next in this series. I Voluntarily read an advanced review copy of this book
The Kremlin is getting rather full! While "the other twin" moves away from the penthouse 'cause he's had enough of the "family-vibes" up there, his new abode is decidedly empty; of people, of annoying display of PDA, he soldiers on, doing his job. And then his job gets him into deep water, no, strike that, he gets himself there! All he had to do was not put out a payment scheme that had to get him into trouble. But those guys have a talent to find just what they need, and, boy, does he find! Dominant they may be, but by the end he's wrapped around the finger of a diminutive tiger-lady that fills all the empty places in his life, and vice versa!
Yassssss, it’s the Chicago Bratva and we get Nikolai’s story. If you’re following Renee Rose’s series, then you’re as giddy as I was to get the latest installment in this entertaining series. And I loved this one. The chemistry between Nikolai and Chelle was so good, I was smiling through most of the story—even the bad stuff. Everything just seemed to sync between these two and their smexy times were downright spankable. There’s so many things I want to say about this story, but there’s too much potential for spoilers, so I’ll leave it with—it’s good. Very, very good.
This is a great series and I loved Nikolai's story. While it is not necessary to read the other books first, it helps to understand the other characters mentioned. Zane, a college student with a drug problem, owes the Bratva a lot of money. Nikolai is sent to collect the money and beats up Zane. Zane's sister Chelle tries to help her brother and seeks out Nikolai. There is instant chemistry that they both try to fight. Chelle is strong and independent and Nikolai is respectful and possessive. As their romance develops there is some danger, misunderstanding and steamy sex scenes. This is a great addition to the series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Chelle is trying to help her big brother that kind of got into a mess with a loan shark. Nikolai first just wanted to scare and punish Zane ,but now he sees Chelle and has another arrangement in mind. What started as a contract quickly changed into something more. Instalove, dark, gritty, but sweet and steamy with a HEA and a bit action too😍😍😍😍
Good as always. I love this series and I love to get to see all the characters of the previous books again. Renee Rose is one of my favorite authors for mafia romance and I love her writing and world-building. I'm in love with the characters. Can't wait to read the next book.
Conclusion: Miss Rose never disappoints with this series. Loved every minute of it.
Es ist immer wieder toll zu lesen das auch so harte Mafiabosse zu tiefer Liebe fähig sind . Klar ist das in der Realität evtl anders aber zum träumen sind diese Bücher der Bratwa-Reihe einfach toll
Chelle unintentionally got involved with the Bratva because her brother owed them money. Nikolai has one job and it's to collect what is owed to the Bratva. His encounter with Chelle was meant to settle the debt. One thing they didn't consider is the attraction they felt towards one another. It happened just when Nikolai has decided he wants to have what his other brothers had, a family and a wife to come home to. However, Chelle is not interested in anything more than the arrangement they agreed to.
I definitely loved Nikolai's character. I loved how he treats and care for Chelle and her brother. Even when he wanted to teach him a lesson. I loved that he's the one who wanted more of their relationship and not Chelle at first. Another addition that I enjoyed. I can't wait for Adrian's story next.
I need to find a bookie stat. Man, Nikolai was amazing, hot, and a dirty man in bed but a sweetheart everywhere else. I loved how much integrity he had about sex between him and Chelle. Chelle was a great female lead, she is strong and independent and had no idea that Nikolai would wake up in her.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I think Nikolai may be my favorite so far in this series. Despite being a ruthless member of the Bratva, Nikolai has a sweet side especially when it relates to Chelle. Chelle is a fierce protector of her brother Zane but one meeting with Nikolai and he has turned her rage into undeniable lust. Although not in Niklai’s moral code, he accepts Chelle’s 30 day indecent proposal and the two cannot resist the underlying feelings that they develop. The chemistry between them sizzles as they work for their own happy ending.
