A.M. Geever continues the story of Undead Menagerie in this addictive sequel, Undead Sanctuary. In this book, the group of survivors from the Pittsburgh zoo escape to find refuge. They journey to a remote lodge owned by friends of some of the survivors. There, they take refuge from the zombie apocalypse raging around them. This book, like others Geever has written, does not disappoint. She weaves a complex interplay between characters and their backstories, creating a tapestry of tension so thick a halligan couldn't slice it. She skillfully keeps conflict simmering throughout, making human nature as threatening as the zombies. What drew me to Geever's writing in the first place was her writing style. Her writing is clean and clear, and often poetic in its portrayal. As a reader, I was drawn into the conflicts and personally wanted to throttle some of her characters at various times. Read Undead Sanctuary first, and soon, you too will want to smack Jay or use Amy for zombie bait. You'll want both of them to get their comeuppance, and you'll want to sit Imogene and Mike down for a nice long talk about communication. This was such a fun read.
