A Daring Faith in a Cowardly World: Live a Life Without Waste, Regret, or Anything Unfinished

Rate this book
Are you ready to stop wasting time and start turning your mundane life into one of adventure and blessing? Ken Harrison, Chairman and CEO of Promise Keepers, masterfully weaves together powerful stories and deep truths from Scripture to point you to the life for which God has called you. Ask Christians what they expect to happen to them after they die, and most will say they will go to heaven. And they'll probably say that they will meet Jesus and hope to hear Him say, "Well done good and faithful servant." But many believers know they are not living up to God's calling on their lives. In fact, many might even admit their lives don't honor God at all―at least Mondays through Saturdays. In A Daring Faith in a Cowardly World , Ken Harrison masterfully uses his stories as a Los Angeles police officer in one of the deadliest areas of the country to explain and illustrate deep truths from God's Word. This isn't your typical inspirational book―it's a hard-hitting work that packs a lot of truth into an easy-to-read page-turner. Each chapter starts and ends with a gripping story that has a twist, a "rest of the story" at the end of the chapter, and packs intense biblical truth and wisdom in the middle. You Are you ready to take the first step towards a more courageous and bold life lived in Jesus? In A Daring Faith in a Cowardly World , find the motivation you've been longing for.

This books addresses a lot of topics most Christians don’t want to talk about, because they are indeed living a cowardly life in a cowardly world. It faces them head on with biblical truth and challenges you to make sure your faith isn’t falling victim to the cowardly world.

God’s love and wrath, blessing and judgement, living in complete holiness, how sin will completely change and destroy who you are, and how the bride of Christ will only be a remnant of the church, are just some of what is discussed in this book and stood out to me the most.

The audiobook narrator had a low, calm cadence that didn’t rise or fall much, which I didn’t mind, but it almost put me to sleep at times. You have to listen closely for headings within chapters because there is hardly any pause at all, but the chapter transitions have extremely long pauses.

Very good book I would recommend. It’s nice to read and/or hear something that isn’t a candy coated Christian message. I wish there were more books like this.

Wisdom, knowledge and understanding.

What I liked about this book is how Ken relates his teachings to his experiences. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn how to strengthen their understanding of patience, compassion, and fearless courage. All things I pray for Jesus to bless me with along with wisdom, understanding and knowledge. I trust Jesus leads me to a writer like Ken who he has blessed with all these things. 5 stars from cover to cover and re-readability. Any reader will reap the benefits of what Ken is saying in this book.

I am reviewing a copy of A Daring Faith in a Cowardly World through Thomas Nelson and Non-Fiction:

As the introductory material suggests this is NOT your typical inspirational book. You will be challenge with his message and wonder how I can ever make a legible difference in this world. But our author gives the reader plenty of stories, illustrations and a plethora of Bible verses to make his points throughout. Right off the bat in chapter 1 is a detailed discussion of Ephesians 2 talking about we are saved by grace, not by works but created for good works that God has prepared for us. So, our salvation is secure, but there is so much more than obtaining the "get out of hell" card if you will. He has a very thoughtful discussion about the beatitudes from Matthew 5 in chapter 7. I will also have to check out the book he mentions in the acknowledgements entitled "Reign of the Future Servant Kings" by Dr. Jody Dillow. Takes a bit of courage but read the book and let it compel you to examine your life starting today.

Such an interesting book. Harrison weaves real-life anecdotes with scripture to illustrate that we all need to be aiming higher in our walk. Eternity will have levels and as Christians we are called to store up our treasures in heaven. This fine read breaks it down with a very useful perspective on how our works and FOCUS translate in God's economy.

I enjoyed this book immensely. As a Christian, do we do enough? Or do we need to be challenged? This book had me looking into myself and saying, "What more can I do?"

This book was challenging and shared the frank, unapologetic truth about the gospel independent of my feelings.

Some really important Biblically based truth that is rarely talked about in the Church at large today. While I may not be in complete agreement with every interpretation of Bible passages found in this book, I found the vast majority convincing and convicting.

Audiobook was well-read by the author, my only tiny complaint was the lack of pauses around section headings which confused me at times - massive pauses at the ends of chapters were great though!

I need to re-listen though as I missed some bits due to only having one working earphone on my cycle commute where I did most of my listening (loud traffic/wind, not the fault of the recording).
